On Being a ‘CANADIAN CONSERVATIVE’

Just to clear the air: I’m a conservative, but that doesn’t mean what a lot of you apparently think it does. Let’s break it down, because I’m tired of being told what I believe and what I stand for. Spoiler: not every conservative is the same, but most of us I know share these same principles.


1. I believe Canada should never depend on another country for energy, protection, or basic supply and demand. We are strongest when we build, produce, and protect things right here in Canada!

2. I believe Canada must put itself first. We cannot pour from an empty cup. Our country should prioritize our own people before trying to save the world.

3. I believe Canada should stay out of endless foreign conflicts. We are not the world’s sugar daddy, and we shouldn’t act like it.

4. I believe no foreign aid should be given until every veteran at home is taken care of.

5. I believe immigrants make Canada stronger — when they come legally. If your first act in this country is breaking the law, you aren’t an upstanding citizen.

6. You can marry who you want. I may not agree with your lifestyle, but your life is not mine to judge.

7. I believe men are men and women are women. Surgery or hormones don’t change that. Men should use men’s bathrooms, and women should use women’s bathrooms.

8. I believe schools are for education. Kids should learn math, history, reading, and science.

9. I believe Canada is in a mental health crisis. Mental health care is real, it matters, and it desperately needs to be addressed.

10. I believe guns aren’t the problem - people are. Gun control only infringes on constitutional rights. But I also believe in common sense: background checks are necessary to keep firearms out of the hands of the mentally ill.

 

I’m a conservative because I believe in faith, family, freedom, and personal responsibility. I don’t want a government that controls every aspect of our lives - I want a government that protects our rights, secures our borders, defends our freedoms, and then gets out of the way.

We are strongest when Canada takes care of Canadians first, when families are supported, when our veterans are honored, and when our children are given truth, not propaganda. I love this country, and I believe it’s worth fighting for.

CBC interrupts Poilievre presser to cheerlead Carney’s poll numbers

On Thursday, Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre told media to stop running “infomercials” for Carney every time officials “send a fax, hold a meeting, or fill out a form.”

The CBC drew criticism after cutting short a press conference by Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, amid polling showing increased Conservative dissatisfaction with the broadcaster.


On Thursday, CBC interrupted Poilievre’s press conference to highlight strong polling for Prime Minister Mark Carney and the Liberals.

Meanwhile, CBC carried his Liberal counterpart’s full press conference completely uninterrupted.


During the interruption, guest host Katie Nicholson quipped that the Conservative leader had “last day of school energy.”

Another CBC reporter pushed back on Poilievre’s criticism of Carney, saying attempts to paint the prime minister as a failure were undercut by his stronger approval ratings.


“There was a lot of trying to paint the Prime Minister as someone who has failed,” he said.

REGINA POLICE ‘FAVOURED” ISLAM

 Every Friday, a quiet area in Regina, Saskatchewan, is disturbed by a shockingly loud noise in Arabic.

An Islamic call to prayer, broadcast across an entire city core — approved without a single vote at city council.


Regina Police issued the permit on their own authority, without any public consultation whatsoever and denying residents the opportunity to weigh in on whether their shared civic spaces should be used this way.


When some of those residents objected, they weren't given a hearing. They were given police warnings about potential hate crime prosecutions.

Online commentary is now being monitored. The message to ordinary Canadians is clear: stay quiet and don't even think about objecting to this.

Criticizing a government decision is not a hate crime.

That's what democracy is supposed to look like. And in Regina right now, democracy is being bypassed every Friday.


Freedom of religion is a cornerstone of this country. Every Canadian has the right to worship, pray, and practice their faith. But freedom of religion is not the same as the right to reshape public space without public consent — and no faith should enjoy special government privileges to do so.

TRUMP: 

US strikes Iran after ship attack

The president said earlier Friday that the attack on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz was a “foolish violation” of the ceasefire agreement.


The U.S. conducted a strike against Iran on Friday in response to an attack on a commercial ship passing through the Strait of Hormuz, the most significant test yet of the deal to end hostilities that President Donald Trump signed last week.

U.S. Central Command said Friday that American aircraft struck Iranian missile and drone storage sites, along with coastal radar sites.


On Thursday, Iran attacked a Singaporean cargo ship that was exiting the strait along the Omani coast with a one-way drone attack, Central Command said. Trump earlier Friday called Iran’s attack on the ship a “foolish violation” of the ceasefire.

The attacks jeopardize a temporary peace framework that the Trump administration has trumpeted as an effective means for lasting peace in the region and the end of Iran’s nuclear ambitions.


Negotiations have been ongoing, and the president and his administration have issued several public statements claiming Iran has agreed to keep the strait open and allow for an inspections regime of its nuclear program.


The U.S. strikes were in keeping with other recent airstrikes on Iranian targets, and appeared calculated to keep any new flare-up in fighting to a minimum. American aircraft have hit similar targets several times over the past several weeks, and each time U.S. officials have characterized them as “defensive” in nature.


The U.S. retains a formidable military presence in the region, with around 50,000 troops on the ground and at sea. Two aircraft carriers remain prowling the Gulf of Oman, along with several destroyers and submarines in the region capable of firing long-range missiles deep inland.


There are also about 2,500 Marines aboard the USS Tripoli and accompanying ships on station as well, with another 2,500 en route, currently in the Pacific.

Friday’s strikes represent a low-point in peace negotiations aiming for a permanent end to the war. Pakistani and Qatari mediators had said earlier this week that the first round of negotiations between the U.S. and Iran had been productive, and Israel and Lebanon brokered a peace framework with the U.S. earlier Friday, though details on the agreement were not released.


The attacks further complicate the immediate future of one of the world’s most vital shipping arteries. The United Nations-backed International Maritime Organization scuttled its efforts at evacuating shipping vessels stuck in the Persian Gulf following the drone attack Thursday.


The organization’s secretary general said in a statement Thursday the ship that had been attacked was not transiting under the group’s framework.

JUDICIARY SQUARE: Former national security adviser John Bolton today pleaded guilty to a single charge of mishandling classified information

John Bolton will pay $2.25 million in fines and give up his government pension, and could face time in prison.


He apologized in Federal Court with a plea deal that could yet put him behind bars.

It’s a remarkable fall for the 77-year-old prominent defense hawk and conservative Donald Trump official-turned-enemy, who spent decades in top national security roles in the U.S. government. Bolton admitted to knowingly taking intelligence secrets and sharing them in private notes with family members in preparation for his memoir, though the information didn’t ultimately end up in the book, “The Room Where It Happened.”


“I am” guilty, “your honor, and sorry for it,” Bolton said this morning, POLITICO’s Josh Gerstein reports from the court in Greenbelt, Maryland.


Bolton will pay $2.25 million in fines and give up his government pension. The judge can sentence him to up to five years in prison under the terms of the plea deal. The initial suite of 18 counts against Bolton could have yielded decades incarcerated.


The guilty plea is also a win for the Trump administration, but the facts of the case blur the questions about weaponization of law enforcement that have dogged the Justice Department. Bolton at first pleaded not guilty and tried to cast his prosecution as an example of top Trump officials improperly going after his political enemies. But federal prosecutors in fact had developed the case across both of Trump’s administrations and the Biden administration.


At the same time, Bolton’s lawyer argued afterward that he was being punished for the type of conduct that Trump himself got away with.


Bolton “took responsibility for a mistake he made,” attorney Abbe Lowell said. “By contrast, President Trump thumbed his nose at the classified information laws, took actual classified documents to his Florida mansion, interfered with the investigation of that conduct, and has never accepted any accountability.” Trump’s own federal classified documents mishandling case was dismissed, and Trump insisted he never committed any wrongdoing with the secret materials he took to Mar-a-Lago between his presidencies.


Prosecutors said Bolton “abused his trust” in office, and “put our national security at grave risk,” using personal accounts to forward sensitive information. His email was later hacked by an actor with ties to Iran.


The defense could still try to get him out of serving time in prison. The facts to which both sides agreed today included that Bolton’s family members — his wife and daughter, NYT’s Aishvarya Kavi and Devlin Barrett report — didn’t pass along his emails to anyone else, and that Bolton’s team were the ones who told the government about the hack.


Bolton will be sentenced Oct. 28.

The Siege in the Dark: Al‑Qaeda’s Blockade of Mali and the War the West Chose Not to See


How an al‑Qaeda fuel blockade quietly strangled a nation of twenty million — and why the world was told to look away.

The same blockade strangling Bamako is testing the security architecture that keeps jihadist insurgencies, mass displacement, and great-power proxy warfare out of Europe’s near abroad — and off America’s front page.

A note on method. This dispatch follows the three-tier discipline. 

Tier 1 is confirmed fact, corroborated across independent sources or satellite record. 

Tier 2 is an attributed claim — true that someone said it, not necessarily true on the ground. 

Tier 3 is labeled analysis, my read of what the pattern means. The tiers are marked so you can weigh each line for yourself. That is the whole point. A nation is going dark, and the people who should be holding the lamp have walked out of the room.


The Strangling

There is a way to take a country without ever entering its capital. You do not storm the gates. You do not raise a flag over the presidential palace. You sit in the countryside, on the roads that feed the city, and you wait. Nothing enters. Nothing leaves. No trucks. No food. No fuel. Prices climb. Generators fall silent. The lights go out, neighborhood by neighborhood, until a capital of more than three million people is reading by candlelight.

That is what has been done to Mali.


[Tier 3] A landlocked state of twenty million at the center of the Sahel’s jihadist belt is not a local story. It is one of the buffers that keeps al-Qaeda franchises, their weapons, and their displaced populations from pushing north toward the Mediterranean — and, by extension, toward NATO’s southern flank. When that buffer fails, it does not fail quietly, and it does not fail alone.


[Tier 1] On 3 September 2025, the al-Qaeda affiliate Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin — JNIM, known in French and Arabic reporting as the GSIM — announced a blockade on fuel moving into southern Mali. Since then, more than 300 fuel tankers have been destroyed on the roads from Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, and Guinea. Mali is landlocked. Roughly 95 percent of its fuel arrives by road. The single most important artery, National Road 1, runs through the western city of Kayes. Cut that road, and you cut the breath of the state.


[Tier 1] The effect was immediate and brutal. At the peak of the autumn crisis, fuel that sold for around 25 dollars surged past 100 — a spike of four to five hundred percent. Schools and universities closed. The state-owned electricity provider was rationed down to a few hours of power a day in some areas. Hospitals, printing presses, and water systems began to fail. Citizens slept in their cars in queues that stretched for hundreds of meters, and the little fuel that made it through was steered to the military and to government facilities. Satellite imagery, months apart, shows a capital that is visibly darker at night.

This is not a metaphor. You can see it from orbit. A city being extinguished.


The Detail They Leave Out

Here is the first omission, and it is the one that matters most for understanding everything that followed.


[Tier 1] The blockade did not begin in a vacuum. On 1 July 2025, Mali’s military government banned small-scale fuel sales across rural areas — the jerry-can trade that ordinary villagers depend on. The stated logic was sound on paper: choke JNIM’s own supply lines, deny the insurgents the fuel that moves their motorcycles and their fighters. The blockade that began two months later was framed by JNIM as the answer to that ban.


[Tier 3] Sit with that for a moment. The government’s counter-insurgency measure handed the insurgency its grievance, its justification, and its lever. JNIM did not need to invent a reason to strangle Bamako. The state handed it one. The dominant framing — al-Qaeda chokes a capital — is true. But it omits the part where the regime’s own policy lit the fuse. That omission flatters the government. Which is precisely why it persists.


[Tier 1] There was a pause. A truce was reportedly reached in late March 2026, said to have freed around 100 JNIM prisoners in exchange for lifting the blockade, and intended to hold until Tabaski in late May.


[Tier 2] The government later denied releasing any prisoners, calling the reports baseless. 


[Tier 3] When a state denies the terms of a deal everyone can see operating on the ground, the denial is usually about domestic face, not about fact. A junta that came to power vowing to crush the jihadists cannot easily admit it is negotiating with them.


[Tier 3] For Washington and Brussels, this is a familiar and dispiriting shape: a partner government turning its own countryside into recruitment terrain. Rules meant to starve an insurgency end up starving villagers instead; the flag over the ministries changes; and the threat vectors aimed at Europe stay the same, or worsen. It is the lesson of Afghanistan, of Iraq, of Somalia — relearned at the expense of people who never read the after-action reports.


Why this matters to you. A quick orientation before the rest, for anyone asking why a fuel blockade in West Africa belongs on an American’s radar. Mali sits at the center of the Sahel — the band of fragile states where al-Qaeda and the Islamic State compete for territory, recruits, and the routes that move weapons and people.


When a Sahelian capital is brought to its knees by an al-Qaeda franchise while Russian mercenaries fail to stop it, three American interests move at once: counterterrorism, great-power competition, and the migration pressures that reshape European politics and, downstream, our own. Keep those three in mind. They recur in everything that follows.

The calm did not last. It was, in hindsight, the inhale before the blow.


The Twenty-Fifth of April

[Tier 1] Before dawn on 25 April 2026, the war changed shape. JNIM and the Tuareg-led Azawad Liberation Front — the FLA — launched a coordinated, nationwide offensive: the largest in Mali since the 2012 rebellion. They struck Bamako, the garrison town of Kati, Gao, Sévaré, Mopti, and Kidal, simultaneously, across distances that dwarf most European countries.


[Tier 1] In Kati — the fortified base on Bamako’s edge that houses the head of state — a vehicle bomb was driven into the home of Defense Minister Sadio Camara, killing him and members of his family. Camara was not a minor figure. He was the architect of Mali’s pivot to Russia, the man who brought in the mercenaries. The intelligence chief was wounded. The FLA took Kidal.


[Tier 1] The head of state, Assimi Goïta, vanished from public view for three days. When he reappeared on 28 April, his first stops were a hospital and a meeting with the Russian ambassador. He called the situation one of “extreme gravity” — and then, in the same breath, “under control.”


[Tier 3] Both halves of that sentence were true, and that is the tragedy of it. The gravity was real. The control was theater. On 4 May, Goïta appointed himself defense minister, filling the chair of the man who had just been assassinated. A leader does not take a dead minister’s portfolio for himself because he trusts the bench behind him. He does it because he no longer does.


The Retreat Moscow Admitted

For three years, the regime sold a story. France had failed. The United Nations had failed. The West had failed. Russia — first as the Wagner Group, then rebranded as the Kremlin’s Africa Corps — would succeed where they could not. Turkish drones would patrol the skies. The jihadists would be crushed.


[Tier 1] That story did not survive the spring. Following the April offensive, Malian and Africa Corps forces conducted negotiated withdrawals from a string of northern towns — Kidal, Tessalit, Ber, Léré, and the lucrative Intahaka gold mine among them. 


[Tier 1] Russia’s own Defense Ministry acknowledged that Africa Corps had pulled out of Kidal after losing the city, and described the situation as “difficult.”


[Tier 3] Read that admission carefully, because it is the quiet center of the whole story. When the partner you imported to save you concedes — in its own state media — that it has retreated and that the situation is difficult, the salvation narrative is finished. The Russians held the airport. They did not hold the country.


[Tier 3] For Moscow, a durable foothold in Mali is more than a favor to a friendly junta. It is a way to project power into Atlantic-facing West Africa, to sit astride European energy and trade routes, and to market itself from Niamey to Ouagadougou as the security guarantor of choice for governments that have shown the West the door. And when that project falters — as it just did — it does not leave a clean vacuum behind. It leaves a marketplace, one in which jihadist groups, separatist militias, and outside powers bid against one another to fill the space the state has vacated.


[Tier 3] Russian firepower can win an engagement. It cannot manufacture the one thing the state has hemorrhaged: the trust of the people it claims to govern.


From a Fuel Blockade to a Siege of Everything

[Tier 1] The blockade that returned on 28 April is not the blockade of last September. According to Amnesty International, three of the main roads into Bamako have been sealed since that date, and — unlike the original siege, which targeted only fuel — the new one applies to all trucks entering the capital. By mid-May, at least three of the six main supply corridors linking Bamako to regional ports were disrupted. On 6 May, JNIM struck a convoy of civilian trucks carrying fruit, with no military escort and no soldiers aboard.

Fetterman Rips Democratic Left, Warns of 'Orgy of Socialism'

Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., delivered one of his sharpest rebukes yet of the Democratic Party's left flank, telling the New York Post in an exclusive interview published Saturday that recent victories by Democratic Socialists of America-backed candidates prove his warning that the party is becoming "an orgy of socialism."


"I said months ago, I said the Democratic Party is becoming an orgy of socialism. These recent elections vindicate my description," Fetterman told the outlet, after DSA-backed candidates captured three Democratic House primaries in New York this week.

The Pennsylvania Democrat singled out congressional nominee Darializa Avila Chevalier, calling her "deeply disturbed."


"Chevalier described America as a f**king disgrace. She posted 'f**k Kamala Harris' and posted that she forgot napkins and wiped her hands on the American flag."

"She wants to abolish the border, abolish prisons. That is a deeply disturbed individual," Fetterman said.


He also mocked Chevalier's association with Maine Democratic Senate nominee Graham Platner, whose controversial Reddit posts have come under scrutiny.

"P-Hustle and Chevalier, the dirtbag left's new power couple," Fetterman quipped, referring to Platner's online username.


Despite his increasingly public criticism of his own party, Fetterman stopped short of signaling an imminent departure from the Democratic Party, though he notably left the possibility open.


"Even if I changed my party, my votes or views wouldn't change," he said, pointing to a May Washington Post opinion column in which he described himself as an independent voice. "I address this very directly. That's the truth."


Since taking office in 2023, Fetterman has steadily emerged as one of the Senate's most politically independent Democrats, often breaking with progressives on immigration, crime and, most notably, Israel.


Following Hamas' Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attack, Fetterman became one of the Democratic Party's strongest supporters of Israel, consistently defending Israel's military campaign against Hamas while backing tougher measures against Iran.


He recently stood alone among Senate Democrats in supporting President Donald Trump's position on an Iran War Powers resolution, further underscoring his willingness to defy party leadership on national security.


That hawkish pro-Israel stance has earned Fetterman praise from Republicans and many pro-Israel Democrats while making him a frequent target of the party's progressive wing, where criticism of Israel has become increasingly common.


His political balancing act comes as he prepares to defend his seat in Pennsylvania, one of the nation's premier battleground states.


While Fetterman remains a uniquely recognizable political figure, recent polling has shown his approval ratings underwater, and his criticism of the Democratic Party's left has fueled speculation about a potential primary challenge.


Among those already mentioned as a possible 2028 challenger is Pennsylvania state Rep. Chris Rabb, a self-described democratic socialist who recently won his Democratic primary.

France takes action against political Islamism

It looks like we should become more European after all

On May 5, the French Senate passed a bill to combat Islamist entryism/infiltration in France by a vote of 208-124. The bill is a direct response to a 2025 government report titled, Muslim Brotherhood and Political Islamism in France, which found that 139 Muslim places of worship are affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood.


The report concludes that the Muslim Brotherhood represents a “threat to national cohesion,” and that action must be taken to stop the spread of "political Islamism, which aims, in the long term, to change the political and social order" of France.

"Entryism" refers to the gradual infiltration of institutions in order to influence them from within.


If the bill becomes law, it will create a new criminal offence for coordinated actions that undermine republican principles, expand the government’s power to dissolve associations involved in Islamist entryism and impose stricter controls on the construction and operation of places of worship.


Perhaps it's time countries like Canada become more European. After all, Prime Minister Mark Carney did say that "Canada is the most European of non-European countries." 

Canada urgently needs its own independent, government-commissioned report on the scale and influence of the Muslim Brotherhood in this country.


Unlike France, Canada has yet to conduct such a review, despite the fact that a 2025 study by the Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy explicitly warned that Canada has become a "hub" for Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated organizations, which are "exerting significant influence in Canadian civil society, academia, politics and government."


Likewise, in 2024, the Middle East Forum found that between 2018 and 2022, Canadian taxpayers "contributed at least C$42 million to five Islamist charities with ties to extremist organizations in South Asia and the Middle East."


The question is: what's Ottawa going to do with this information? Is it going to continue to allow the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamist organizations to penetrate the country in an effort to subvert its institutions? Or is it going to commission a report, like France, and start passing laws to crack down on Islamism?


Ottawa could certainly learn a few things from Quebec, which has been tackling political Islamism head-on since 2019. 


While Quebec, like France, also subscribes to the notion of laïcité — strict secularism that keeps religion out of the state and puts shared civic values first in public institutions — most of the rest of Canada still seems enamoured with the idea that newcomers will always abandon any of their backward ways.


This is an arrogant liberal conceit that has no basis in reality, as reports in France and Canada show. 


Quebec, for its part, has enacted a host of bills to strengthen laïcité. In 2019, it passed Bill 21, which banned civil servants in positions of authority, such as judges and teachers, from wearing religious symbols. Quebec uses the notwithstanding clause to shield Bill 21 from Charter challenges.


In 2025, Bill 94 extended laïcité further to all school staff and banned face coverings. And in April, Bill 9 extended these rules to daycares, banned prayer spaces in public institutions like universities and placed restrictions on collective mass prayers in parks and other public spaces. 


Some try to pass Quebec's (and France's) attempts to curb political Islamism as xenophobic and Islamophobic. Yet Quebec understands that creeping political Islamism is a problem.


In May, 11 teachers at Montreal’s Bedford Elementary School had their teaching licenses permanently revoked after a 2024 investigation found that many of them (who were all associated with the same mosque) had created a “climate of fear and intimidation" at the school, allegedly introducing Islamist religious concepts, refusing to teach parts of the secular curriculum, preventing female students from playing soccer and mistreating other students. 


In addition, Montreal4Palestine holds regular protests every Sunday and has conducted mass prayers in front of Notre-Dame cathedral, which have been interpreted by some as acts of intimidation.


These prayers were led by Iyad Abuhamed, a Montreal-based imam who's on record calling October 7 a "victory for our people." The same group regularly calls for jihad in Montreal's streets.


Quebec and France both know that creeping political Islamism is a problem and are taking steps to address it. What is Ottawa waiting for? Allons-y!

Hello. Well I am on a bit of a NDE research jag at the moment and came across this.


It is very wide ranging and fun but what I want to cotton onto is the statement (and I have to qualify by saying purported to be) by Jesus that we get about halfway through where other ministries/missions in other places of the cosmos is briefly touched upon – because think …


If Christ is truly a universal phenomenon and every major culture or civilisation gets the option of that boost and blessing then we have a sane and beautiful way of assessing any ET representatives that come to meet us – any.


Such an assessment would naturally pivot around such questions as: to what extent are the intelligences we see before us exibiting the qualities of kindness, gentleness, transparency, wisdom, understanding, cooperation and humility in the sense of not being ego bound, that we have come to associate with anyone taking his teaching seriously and (of course) so benefitting from it.


To what extent do any of the outcomes that result from fraternization with them appear of a subtly exploitative nature or are they openly and beautifully embraceable because of the common sense and mutually benefitting goodness they present.


Now it is possible to think that we might be open to deceit by intelligences able to mimic these qualities but I do not think there is anything truly to worry about here. Game always recognizes Game and Christlikeness is always able to acknowledge its real reflection however it turns up.

So, we have an automatic, built in and beautiful, very natural and fully utilizable mode or standard of assessment when looking at whatever emerges from the cosmos into our radar.


Anyway predictions are that when they come they will be very positive, because of work already done to ensure that is the case.


Mind you, they have every right to discern us by the same standard – and very probably have, but if we weren’t good people trying to be better, we wouldn’t be where we are now.


The only other thing I have to offer is a phrase from one of Courtney Brown’s books when he projected to Jesus and was told (as far as I remember) that there should be no limit to our willingness to be of service to other beings in the cosmos. 


But the kind of service he is speaking of here is not an open door for us to be exploited, but the kind that comes very naturally to us when we see we can heal a situation at no real cost to ourselves – because of what is innate to us that may not be innate to who we are helping – so naturally help is extended.


But let’s meet them first before we start showing them what Christlikeness can accomplish when it shows up in a human suit, with all the wonder and beauty that that entails!
