CANADIAN:

Liberals' 'local journalism' cash went to big city newsrooms

Parliamentary records show funds meant for underserved communities flowed to outlets including the Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, Winnipeg Free Press and other established dailies.

So apparently Canada’s “Local Journalism Initiative” — the one sold to taxpayers as a lifeline for rural news deserts and underserved communities — has been handing money to some of the biggest media players in the country.

Not exactly a surprise, but still impressive in its audacity.


According to records tabled in Parliament after a question from Conservative MP Arpan Khanna, grants meant to support struggling local coverage went to outlets like Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, Winnipeg Free Press, and Winnipeg Sun.


Khanna’s written question demanded a breakdown of the Local Journalism Initiative since 2019: which intermediary groups handled the money, whether they reported who got paid, and the final recipients by name, date, amount, location, and media type. In other words: who got the cash, when, how much, and for what.

And once those records surfaced, the fairy tale got harder to tell.


This wasn’t just some general media support fund. It was pitched as coverage for communities lacking local journalism — places with no daily paper, weak civic reporting, limited access to information. Yet the disclosed recipients included some of the most established names in Canadian media.


Among the payouts highlighted from the response:

  • $408,468 to Le Droit in Ottawa

  • $347,172 to The Hamilton Spectator

  • $338,880 to Winnipeg Free Press

  • $282,062 to Telegraph-Journal

  • $257,576 to The Telegram

  • $236,844 to The Guardian

  • $202,152 to Winnipeg Sun

  • $171,664 to The Peterborough Examiner

  • $158,277 to Toronto Star

  • $138,125 to Daily Gleaner

  • $30,750 to The Globe and Mail


That’s a fascinating definition of “underserved.” Toronto gets local journalism money. Ottawa gets local journalism money. Winnipeg dailies get local journalism money. Next we’ll learn Bay Street needs northern development grants.


The question also matters because it exposed the structure: funds were distributed through third-party organizations such as News Media Canada and the Community Radio Fund of Canada, rather than Ottawa directly cutting cheques to every outlet. That creates useful distance. Bureaucrats can say they support the program, intermediaries can say they made the calls, and taxpayers get to play Where’s Waldo with the money trail.

News Media Canada, a subsidy lobby group, CEO Paul Deegan told MPs the initiative was critical for rural voices and small-town weeklies. He described mom-and-pop papers barely hanging on.


Then the records came out and taxpayers discover cash landing at major urban dailies owned by corporate chains.

And while all this was happening, independent journalists weren’t being helped — they were being shut out. Questions were treated like trespassing.


Meanwhile, legacy outlets are waved through. The local journalism program was supposed to end in 2024. Instead, cabinet extended it with another $58.8 million. Because once government starts subsidizing media, apparently it’s harder to cancel than a streaming subscription.


And this is the deeper issue.

When governments fund journalism, they insist it’s about democracy, reliable facts, public service. Maybe sometimes it is. But when the money starts flowing to already-dominant outlets in Canada’s biggest cities — while independent competitors are frozen out of access and forced to fight for credentials — people stop seeing public service and start seeing insider privilege.


If the goal is to save local journalism, then stop blocking independent local journalism. If the goal is to subsidize legacy brands with political connections, at least have the honesty to call it that.

President Trump said something profound immediately after another left-wing radical tried to kill him on Saturday night: “The most impactful people, the people who do the most, they’re the ones who they go after.”


This is undeniably true. Trump is a force of radical change, a man of action seeking to disrupt the Washington D.C. establishment’s favorite game: screwing over the American people in the pursuit of power.


So why did a teacher from California feel compelled to take action in this way? Certainly he wasn’t a member of the establishment trying to retain his political power, but he was one of the millions of Trump-deranged “activists” ready to do the bidding of the elites after consuming thousands of hours of hyperbolic media rhetoric villainizing President Trump to the maximum and beyond.


Based on his manifesto, he truly believed Trump is a monster who needed to be stopped at all cost.


Wherever did he get that idea?

The left-wing media machine is an assembly line of hate and hysteria. The corporate media, perhaps excluding Fox News and much of Rupert Murdoch’s empire, was built to protect the establishment. And once they realize they have been losing the trust, hearts and minds of millions of Americans that once tuned in, they decided to juice ratings while discrediting a populist threat to the political status quo by going all in on negative Trump coverage.


Once you’ve evoked Hitler, fascism and the KKK, there’s nowhere to go from there. You have pulled the fire-alarm of American political discourse and your millions of viewers believe that there is a fire that needs to be put out immediately. Cole Allen, the alleged White House Correspondents Dinner shooter was likely one of these people, dutifully acting accordingly to the fire drill the media had pulled, telling him that America was about to be destroyed by Donald Trump.


Telling him that returning to reasonable border control and enforcing immigration law was evidence that a new holocaust was on the horizon. Or that the Iran War was the beginning of World War three, as if nearly every president in the past 30 years hasn’t engaged in similar regional military conflicts.


The most striking thing about Allen’s manifesto is that it doesn’t sound like the ramblings of a psychotic killer, it sounds like the worldview of so many leftists who make it their life’s occupation to hate Donald Trump. He sounds like everyone at the “No King’s” protests, or those lining up in the streets of Minneapolis to impede ICE officers from doing their jobs, or Democrat politicians who have called Trump fascist and a “threat to democracy,” or even the talking heads on certain TV networks and in certain newspapers who echo this baseless message.

Allen’s words sound very familiar to anyone who has spent time consuming left-wing media. The only difference between him and all those previously mentioned is that he decided to take action to address the existential emergency he believes to be at hand.


Trump was right, it’s those who are actually moving the needle who are the most at risk. If he was an impotent puppet of the establishment (like Joe Biden) there would be no reason to remove him by any means necessary. He is The Man in the Arena, as President Theodore Roosevelt famously put it. In his truth-ringing poem, he lambast “the critic,” the man who comfortably sits and points at the ones who dare greatly and take action and sometimes make mistakes in the pursuit of achieving something important and bigger than themselves.


If you haven’t read it, read it here and just try not to think of President Trump and his battle against political adversaries who nitpick every syllable, every percieved mistep and every attempt to Make America better for America’s sake:

An assassin tried to shoot Roosevelt on the campaign trail in 1912, the bullet lodged in his glasses case in his suit jacket pocket and Roosevelt famously gave a speech immediately afterwards, blood spilling from his wound, telling the crowd “It takes more than that to kill a bull moose!”


Just like Roosevelt, Trump is a force of real change, he threatens every sacred tenant of the establishment, and if they haven’t stopped him by now, they won’t be able to. He is unflinching at the lies, the mob and the bullets that seek to take him down.

He is bullet proof and his message is bullet proof; rebuild America for Americans and don’t stop until the job is done.


It’s not the critic who counts, the media and the democrats will not stop their campaign of hysteria, but Trump has shown that he is even more relentless and unwavering then they are.

Since the 1920s, farmers have been spreading “biosludge”—treated sewage—on food crops as a “cost-saving fertilizer.” Now, new research from the University at Albany is finding that biosludge fertilizer can load crops like corn and lettuce with “forever chemicals” that don’t break down and can linger in the human body for years. PFAS are now found in the vast majority of human blood samples and have been linked to cancer, fertility issues, and immune disruption.

 

According to the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, “The CBC costs taxpayers more than $1.4 billion per year. That money could pay the full-time salaries of about 7,000 police officers plus 7,000 paramedics instead of going to a state broadcaster with abysmal ratings. As an historian by training, I have an abiding interest in historical matters. One mystery has long intrigued me and I asked Archangel Michael about it in my last reading through Linda Dillon, Nov. 15, 2017.


Right around 1200 BC, many civilizations fell, were eroded, or suffered some other obstacle to their progress.

Various theories have been advanced – natural disaster, invasion of the “sea people,” etc. (1)

But what actually happened? Archangel Michael says it had to do with the withdrawal of our star family from active participation in our societies. They felt it was time for us to manage our own affairs.


We promptly turned on each other and started a series of wars of conquest that lasts to this day.

Steve Beckow: There is a mystery that I’m hoping you can help me solve and that’s that something happened in 1200 BC to numerous civilizations and they experienced at least a hiccup in the case of Egypt but also fell in the case of the Hittites and some of their neighbors. What happened in 1200 BC, Lord?


Archangel Michael: There was a great deal that happened in that area that you would term 1200 BC. First of all, during that time many [Galactics] returned home (2) and we do not just mean to the Sacred One (3) but also many returned to the ships (4) and there was a cleavage, a breaking of much of the partnership and co-creative partnerships between your star brothers and many civilizations.


There was also a similar time, a rise of what you can think of as darkness, what we would term as a resurgence. Yes, you tend to think of these fear factors as recent. They are not. They are ancient and they are original.


[How did we humans do in the absence of our star brothers and sisters?]

There was a strong component and a re-anchoring of many of the false grids and the paradigms of control and a---e. Freedom was severely suppressed.

In suppression and control, what happens, if you are suppressing creation and creativity, you are suppressing the ability of being, individually and collectively, truly coming forth in what is possible.


So you had a massive rise in the upswing of creativity, of what you can think of as one of those efforts to create Nova Earth in partnership with many of your star family and the divine.

And then you had the resurgence of the human paradigms of lack, limitation etc. You know the list.


And then [you had] the placing in positions of authority and control, not creativity, [but people into] control-authority-a---e, those who really engaged in those paradigms. That’s what happened.


So, what you see is civilizations fade away – civilizations that have been in flourishing mode, in blossoming mode.

And then you have seen the rise of those who say, “No, no, no, this is getting out of control. We do not have the lid on that pressure cooker. We are not able to contain this.”

And so it is that duality – war – has gone on for a very long time. Now, do civilizations rise and fade? Note that I am saying rise and fade. In that fading, think of it as seasonal, there is the rise and the bringing forth of the new. So, it is the ebb and flow as well.


But never was it intended, in this ebb and flow of seasons of tides, that people be squashed and that is what has happened in human history. It has not been in organic ebb and flow. It has been the rise, the squash, the rise, the squash.

Now what you are saying is that there is a fading of what you can think of as, not just as Western civilization, but a fading so that the new of the Earth community and Gaian community can come to the forefront.


Steve: So now why [did they] leave in 1200? Why?

[I’m hoping for the citing of a specific incident or some marker that I can use to look more deeply into the history.]

AAM: They were no longer welcome and they no longer saw that their creativity and guidance, input and sense of community were welcome.

Steve: Twilight of the Gods

AAM: That is correct.

Steve: I’ll be darned. But there’s no written evidence of this, I’m sure, right?

AAM: No.

Steve: All right, but the decline wasn’t due to the “sea peoples”?

AAM: No.

Steve: And the heavy stones at Hattusa and in Egypt and in Babylonia, were they lifted in place by extraterrestrial strategies or devices?

AAM: All of this was done by your star brothers. That is part of what we had this channel do. (5) These are markers. These are basically ancient landing markers that are being revitalized with the Cities of Light.
