Canada’s shift in Immigration Policy aims to fix labour markets. Will it create more gaps instead?
The federal government has shifted its immigration policy by recruiting thousands of immigrants to fill labour shortages in health care, skilled trades, agriculture, transportation and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). Since late June, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has invited 9,000 people to apply for permanent residency because of their candidacy for those occupations.
Economists and policy experts are warning that with today’s fast-changing labour needs, this approach could leave the country with too many workers in the fields currently targeted. Experts have also said that potential immigrants could be overlooked despite ranking high in Canada’s point system. Immigration candidates are assigned a score through the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), accounting for such factors as age, education and employment history. The score corresponds to their expected Canadian earnings, based on the outcomes of previous cohorts of immigrants. In the past, Ottawa selected the top scorers to apply for permanent residency.
By targeting people with certain career backgrounds, experts say, the process could become less predictable for prospective immigrants and could result in less overall productivity as lower-earners are more commonly selected because of their occupation. [ANNA STAFFORD]

Illinois Sheriffs Brace for the Fallout Of “America’s Most Dangerous Law”:

Under a new law, approved by the Illinois State Supreme Court, judges across Illinois will not require those charged with a crime to post bail in order to be released from jail while they await trial. That is unless the judge determines them a threat to the public or a flight risk. The law effectively makes Illinois the first state to end cash bail.
Sheriffs Kyle Bacon and Jeff Bullard, from Southern Illinois say they are concerned and discouraged by the state Supreme Court's ruling to end cash bail. They say that, they are bracing for more crime and more victims across the state as a result.
Franklin County Sheriff, Kyle Bacon said-
"Folks who live here are extremely concerned," "It's an experiment on the backs of victims of crime. I have serious concerns and so do the people that live here."… "We were preparing for this, but then we just kind of hit the pause button,"… "And now the scramble is back on for law enforcement, prosecutors, “ adding…"The flaws of it are going to be revealed even more and trying to fix that issue is going to be a nonstop process,"… "It is discouraging,"
Jefferson County Sheriff, Jeff Bullard said law enforcement and attorneys will be the ones who bear the brunt of these changes. Reportedly, Bullard said-
"We did our job. We arrested them, incarcerated them,"… "and then the state's attorney makes the argument that they should be remanded for trial, and the judge, based on the SAFE-T Act guidelines, says, “Now I'm forced to let them go.”…"That's going to increase crime victim frustration … and we share that frustration with them,"

Previously set to go into effect on Jan. 1, the provision, part of the 2021 criminal justice reform bill, the Safety, Accountability, Fairness and Equity-Today (or SAFE-T) Act, was placed on hold after Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul appealed a ruling by a circuit judge, that the pre-trial release and bail reforms in the SAFE-T act were unconstitutional.
According to a previous interview by Fox News, Orland Park Mayor, Keith Pekau spoke out saying-

However, bail reform advocates argue that the current cash bail system bases the freedom of people awaiting trial largely on their ability to pay money. They say it disproportionately affects communities of color.
Sheriffs’ Bacon and Bullard, said their officers will continue to serve and protect their citizens to the best of their ability, within the limits of the law. They did however express that the outlook of how this change will affect policing remains unclear. Time will tell.

"We have 100 people sitting in jail or requiring cash bond. What happens with that? We have literally hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of arrest warrants that are assigned a cash bond. GOP Claims Former FBI Agent Confirms Key Details of Hunter Biden Whistleblower’s Testimony:
Allegedly, according to whistleblowers, there was political interference by the Biden administration into the investigation of Hunter Biden. As Republicans push for more evidence in the Hunter Biden investigation, the former FBI agent who served as the supervisor of the federal investigation into Hunter Biden at the IRS, confirmed key portions of the whistleblower testimony. It concerned alleged political interference, by the Biden administration into the investigation, according to the Republicans on the House Oversight Committee.
Monday's testimony came, amid a joint-congressional investigation with the Oversight Committee, Judiciary Committee and House Ways and Means Committee into the federal probe into Hunter Biden, and whether prosecutorial decisions were influenced by politics. Comer went on to share, some of the whistleblower’s confirmations. He reportedly said in in a statement on Monday-
"Today, a former FBI supervisory special agent assigned to the FBI’s Wilmington office and the Biden criminal investigation confirmed key portions of the IRS whistleblower’s testimony,"…"The night before the interview of Hunter Biden, both Secret Service headquarters and the Biden transition team were tipped off about the planned interview.
On the day of the Hunter Biden interview, federal agents were told to stand by and could not approach Hunter Biden—they had to wait for his call. As a result of the change in plans, IRS and FBI criminal investigators never got to interview Hunter Biden as part of the investigation,"

Comer went on to stress the importance of what the whistleblowers have confirmed in the "many findings” of their investigation. He also stressed the importance of hearing from them, as well as other witnesses, regarding the "weaponization of federal law enforcement power."
However, the DOJ has denied the investigation was influenced in any way. U.S. Attorney David Weiss from Delaware, who is in charge of the probe, has said the investigation is "ongoing." So, when Hunter Biden makes his first court appearance before the judge this next week on July 26th, America will see for itself the two-tiered system of justice that exists. America is not stupid – the truth will out, either with or without the DOJ following the rule of law. Actions speak louder than words.
