As Passion Week commenced, crowds met Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem by praising Him, saying, "Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the LORD!" Sadly, those same people would cry, "Crucify Him!" a few days later. Once hailed as King, He was mocked and rejected as a common criminal because they could not see the future. But that's not true of us today. Unlike those in the crowd, we know the end of the story—Jesus' empty tomb proclaims Him as the risen Christ!

 

The scene in Revelation 5:9 takes us to the throne of the Lord God Almighty, where countless multitudes sing a new song of redemption, "You are worthy…for You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood." Notice that it's not angels offering up this glorious praise. Only those who have been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb can sing this song. The world sings for all kinds of reasons, but we sing to Jesus for all He has done in heaven and on earth.


If Jesus is your King, don't wait until heaven to sing your heart out—start today! But perhaps you need a new song to bless Him with. I exhort you to remember the day you acknowledged the weight of your sins before a holy God and asked for, and received His forgiveness. Use that remembrance as a starting point to lift your voice and your hands in song, blessing the Lord with all that is within you, for He alone is worthy!

Why Warriors Struggle in Normal Church Culture

For men who have faced danger and are ready to serve Christ with the same resolve.

If you spent years running toward danger while everyone else ran the other direction, Sunday morning can feel like landing on a different planet.


The music starts. People shake hands and talk about their week. Conversations drift toward work stress, school schedules, and what they are cooking for lunch after service. None of that is wrong. But if you have pulled people out of burning cars, sat with dying men, or cleared rooms in the dark, that world can feel impossibly far away from where you have been.


You may sit in the back row thinking nobody in that building has any idea what you have seen. You scan exits by instinct. You read body language without meaning to. When someone moves unexpectedly near the door, your pulse ticks up before your brain catches it. You are not paranoid. You are trained. But in that environment, the training makes you feel like a stranger.


A lot of warriors quietly conclude that church is not for them. Not because they stopped believing. But because they stopped feeling like they fit.

That tension is older than any of us. Scripture gives us a man who lived with it, worked through it, and built something lasting on the other side. His name was Nehemiah.


He Was Not a Pastor. He Was an Operator.

Nehemiah served in the court of a foreign king. His title was cupbearer, which sounds ceremonial but carried serious weight. He was responsible for tasting everything the king consumed before the king touched it. His life was the standing guarantee that no one had poisoned the cup. That is not a soft job. It required loyalty, composure under pressure, and the ability to read threats in a room full of political actors who would benefit from the king’s death.


When news reached him that Jerusalem’s walls were destroyed and the people living there were in disgrace, Nehemiah did not compose a lament. He wept, fasted, and prayed for days. Then he went to work. He assessed the situation, identified the resources he needed, secured authorization from the king, and traveled to Jerusalem to begin reconstruction.


Once there, he did not call a committee meeting. He rode out at night to assess the damage himself before he briefed anyone.

“I went out by night by the Valley Gate to the Dragon Spring and to the Dung Gate, and I inspected the walls of Jerusalem that were broken down and its gates that had been destroyed by fire.” (Nehemiah 2:13, ESV)


That is reconnaissance. Nehemiah was not a theologian in a study. He was a man who understood mission, logistics, and threat assessment, and he put all of it in service of something God had called him to build.

If you have spent your career doing things that required that same combination of skills, Nehemiah is not a figure you have to translate. He is someone you recognize.


Building Under Threat

The opposition started before the first stone was laid. Sanballat and Tobiah mocked the project publicly. When the work progressed despite the mockery, they moved toward coordinated attack. The threat was real enough that Nehemiah restructured the entire operation.


“So in the lowest parts of the space behind the wall, in open places, I stationed the people by their clans, with their swords, their spears, and their bows. And I looked and arose and said to the nobles and to the officials and to the rest of the people, ‘Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes.’” (Nehemiah 4:13-14, ESV)


He armed the workforce. Half the men held tools. The other half held weapons. Those who were building kept a sword within reach while they worked. He posted people by family units so that each man was defending something personal, not just abstract.

“And each of the builders had his sword strapped at his side while he built.” (Nehemiah 4:18, ESV)


That image is not incidental. These men were doing sacred work, rebuilding what God had called them to restore, and they did it armed. Nehemiah did not apologize for the weapons. He did not tell the builders to set them aside and trust God without practical preparation. He organized a structure where vigilance and construction existed side by side.


That is where a lot of warriors need permission to land. You can be the man in the back row who scans the room and still be fully part of what God is building. Your awareness is not incompatible with worship. Nehemiah shows you these things belong together.

Why the Culture Clash Is Real

Warrior culture and church culture often operate at completely different speeds, and pretending otherwise does not help anyone.


In law enforcement, fire, EMS, and the military, communication is direct. Decisions carry immediate consequences. Loyalty is tested under real pressure, not self-reported. You know within seconds whether someone next to you can be trusted, because the situation tells you. When something is wrong, you say so plainly. When something needs to happen, you make it happen.


Walk that training into a typical Sunday service and the contrast is immediate. Conflict is softened. Feelings are centered. Conversations rarely arrive at a direct conclusion. People who have never experienced a genuine crisis can still hold leadership positions. That is not a criticism. It is just a different world, and the gap is real.

Nehemiah felt it from both sides. His own people were discouraged and losing confidence. His officials questioned whether the work was even possible. He had enemies on the outside and wavering resolve on the inside. He never pretended that the tension was not there.


What he did instead was keep the mission in front of the people.

“And when our enemies heard that it was known to us and that God had frustrated their plan, we all returned to the wall, each to his work.” (Nehemiah 4:15, ESV)

He did not resolve every relational tension before resuming the work. He returned everyone to the mission. That is a model worth holding onto. You do not have to resolve every discomfort in church culture before you engage. Return to what God is building and let the relationships form around shared work.

 

The Sword Was Never the Final Goal

Here is the piece that warriors sometimes miss. Nehemiah was not a man defined by the fight. He was a man defined by what he was building and why.

When the wall was finished, the people gathered in the public square and asked Ezra to bring out the Book of the Law. They stood from morning until midday while it was read aloud. Men and women who had just come off months of armed construction stood and listened to Scripture.


“And they read from the book, from the Law of God, clearly, and they gave the sense, so that the people understood the reading.” (Nehemiah 8:8, ESV)

After the building came the Word. After the vigilance came worship. The same men who held swords now stood under the reading of God’s law. They wept when they heard it. They celebrated. They were not two different groups of people. They were the same people, moving from one posture to the next.


That transition is where a lot of warriors get stuck. Staying in protection mode is familiar. Letting the guard down enough to sit under the Word, to pray openly, to admit a need, that feels like exposure. But Nehemiah’s men did both. The sword did not prevent them from building, and it did not prevent them from worshipping.


David understood this too. He was a warrior from his youth, a man who killed a bear and a lion before he ever faced Goliath. He fought wars for decades. He also wrote Psalm 139.

“Search me, O God, and know my heart. Try me and know my thoughts. And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psalm 139:23-24, ESV)

That prayer is not soft. It takes more courage to open yourself to God’s examination than it does to clear a room. David knew both, and he did not treat them as opposites.

 

What to Do With the Feeling of Not Fitting

If you feel like an outsider in church, the first step is naming what specifically feels off. Is it the pace? The tone? The absence of anyone who understands operational stress? Isolation feeds on undefined discomfort. Nehemiah faced his problems directly instead of pretending they were not there. Do the same.


Seek smaller settings before you write off the whole thing. A large Sunday service is the hardest entry point for someone wired the way you are. A men’s group, a veterans’ Bible study, a serve team, a security volunteer role, all of these create shared work, and shared work builds trust faster than shared seating.


Use what you bring. Churches need people who are steady under pressure, who can think clearly in a crisis, who are not rattled by conflict. Security teams, crisis planning, practical service to vulnerable members, mentoring younger men, these roles draw on exactly the skills you spent years developing. Your background is not a liability to the body of Christ. Paul makes this plain.


“For the body does not consist of one member but of many. If the foot should say, ‘Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,’ that would not make it any less a part of the body.” (1 Corinthians 12:14-15, ESV)


The church is not a personality type or a subculture. It is the body of Christ, and that body needs every kind of member. A body made only of soft hands cannot hold ground. A body that cannot hold ground cannot protect what it is called to build.


You Are Not Misplaced

Nehemiah never stopped being the man he was. He did not become a different person when the wall was done. He stayed in Jerusalem, continued to serve, and later returned to correct what had gone wrong while he was away. His background in court, his operational instincts, his ability to assess threat and organize response, none of that was set aside. It was sanctified and put to use.


You are not an outcast in Christ’s church. The experiences you carry do not disqualify you from belonging. They may be exactly how God intends to strengthen the body. The sword at your side does not prevent you from building. It means you understand what it costs to protect what is being built.


Nehemiah knew that. David knew that. The question is whether you will trust it.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9, ESV)

That command was not given to a pastor. It was given to a soldier. And it still stands.

 This Week in Canada: 

· Avi Lewis was elected leader of the New Democratic Party with 56% of the vote on the first ballot. His election is already exposing divisions within the party, particularly in Western Canada. Saskatchewan NDP leader Carla Beck has refused to meet with Lewis, criticizing his opposition to fossil fuel development as unrealistic and harmful to Saskatchewan’s economy and workers. Similarly, Naheed Nenshi in Alberta has attempted to push back on Lewis’s policies, arguing they do not reflect the province’s interests and highlighting differences between the federal and provincial wings. Lewis has proposed measures such as halting new pipeline approvals and taxing oil and gas exports, which have intensified concerns in resource-dependent regions. However, some leaders, including Wab Kinew in Manitoba, struck a more positive tone, expressing willingness to work together despite disagreements. David Eby in British Columbia also offered cautious support, emphasizing cooperation where priorities align.

· The Supreme Court of Canada held one of its longest hearings to consider Quebec’s secularism law, Bill 21, which bans some public employees from wearing religious symbols. Lawyers raised concerns about the potential for misuse of the notwithstanding clause, with one warning it could enable authoritarian actions in Canada, while others stressed the real impact on individuals, particularly Muslim women and Jewish professionals, who face exclusion from public roles. The court will take several months before issuing a decision, which could have lasting implications for civil rights and the use of the notwithstanding clause in Canada. There are particular concerns that the court could use the controversy surrounding this specific Bill as an opportunity to restrict provinces' use of the notwithstanding clause in other policy areas, which would completely upend the current balance in Canada's constitutional order.

 

· The federal government's new Strengthening Canada’s Immigration System and Borders Act, or Bill C-12, will retroactively cancel thousands of refugee claims, affecting anyone who arrived after June 24th, 2020, and filed claims since June 3rd, 2025. Instead of full hearings before independent tribunals, affected claimants will now be assessed only on paper by immigration officials, and irregular migrants entering between US land ports will be denied asylum. Critics warn that the law significantly rolls back refugee rights, gives the government broad powers to suspend or cancel immigration documents, and could be misused in the future. The federal government argues the changes are needed to manage a backlog of nearly 300,000 claims, but legal experts expect the law to face constitutional and international challenges.

 

· Canada has met NATO’s defence spending benchmark of 2% of GDP for the first time since the late 1980s. This was achieved through a $9.3 billion budget increase last June, bringing total expenditures to over $61 billion. Prime Minister Mark Carney fulfilled this commitment following significant pressure from international allies, including the United States. However, the target was only reached by reorganizing federal agencies, such as moving the Canadian Coast Guard under the Defence Department, alongside military pay raises and infrastructure investments.


Despite the increase, Canada remains in the bottom third of the alliance regarding defence spending percentages. While previous leadership historically resisted the benchmark, a broad domestic political consensus now supports the investment. This milestone arrives as NATO leaders consider raising future spending targets to 5% of GDP over the next decade.

 

· University of British Columbia professor Paul Kershaw is proposing reforming Old Age Security (OAS) to address Canada’s $78-billion deficit. Currently, only 4% of seniors are excluded from benefits, as couples earning up to $185,000 annually still receive full payments. A poll indicates that 75% of Canadians support reform, with many favouring lowering the household eligibility threshold to $100,000 to save an estimated $7 billion annually. Broader reforms could potentially generate up to $20 billion in annual savings.


These funds could be redistributed to eliminate senior poverty or double federal investments in housing and post-secondary education. While the Department of Finance did not confirm if changes are under consideration, officials highlighted recent 10% OAS increases for seniors aged 75 and older and investments in long-term care.

 

 This Week’s Action Item: 

The Supreme Court is hearing challenges to Quebec’s Bill 21, which bans some public employees from wearing religious symbols, focusing on the province’s pre-emptive use of the notwithstanding clause. 


Federal, Manitoba, and British Columbia lawyers are arguing that courts should still be able to issue non-binding opinions on whether such laws violate Charter rights, providing clarity for the public, while Quebec, Alberta, Ontario, and Saskatchewan oppose this approach, calling it unnecessary and potentially confusing.

Saturday once again saw Leftists mobilizing en masse for “No Kings” day. While many protests saw their attendance be composed of AARP members, that was not always the case.


From outside Chicago to Los Angeles to Portland, Oregon, things turned violent with anti-ICE protesters showing the Trump administration they are still very angry with Homeland Security deporting illegal aliens.

A group of 1,000 rioters surrounded the Roybal Federal Building in Los Angeles. Rioters are throwing rocks, bottles, and cement blocks at officers. Two officers hit with the cement blocks are receiving medical care. The Los Angeles Police Department is responding to the scene.

🚨: Anti-ICE rioters threw chunks of concrete at DHS agents protecting the federal building in Los Angeles. Federal agents responded with tear gas to disperse the crowd.

 

The Cook County Sheriff Police made several arrests after anti-ICE protesters blocked the road that leads to the ICE facility in Broadview. Protests up until recently have been muted thanks to Chicago’s infamous cold weather, but with spring well on the way, you can expect more confrontations in the weeks ahead.


I was on-the-ground in Los Angeles when a couple hundred anti-ICE rioters tried to breach the temporary security fence at the Roybal Federal Building. That federal building has been heavily targeted since the riots started last summer. In an effort to keep the mob away from the fence, the Federal Protective Service used tear gas, pepper balls, and pepper spray.

RFK Jr. is finally sounding the alarm: Americans are being “MASS POISONED.”

The situation became dangerous for the federal agents after some rioters in the crowd broke apart concrete barriers in order to throw the pieces over the fence. After an unlawful assembly was declared, and more fights between the agents and crowd, the Los Angeles Police Department responded and helped make arrests.

The Los Angeles Times reported 70 people were arrested. DHS said at least two federal agents had been injured from the concrete.


As for the rioters who threw rocks and concrete, Bill Essayli, the first assistant U.S. attorney for the Central District of California, said the Department of Justice is looking to identify the suspects. Essayli noted at least two people had been arrested for the crime.

“Federal agents have started arresting those who assaulted our personnel at the Los Angeles courthouse. To those who were smashing concrete blocks and throwing them at our officers, we have you on video. We will find you and arrest you too. You’ve been warned,” Essayli said.


In Portland, anti-ICE rioters managed to breach the main gate, but videos show the crowd did not rush inside due to the responding federal agents. Multiple arrests were made as well.



 

While it now takes major events to bring large numbers of anti-ICE protesters out in the streets, this weekend showed they can still cause mayhem and their threats should be taken seriously.

 

 

Fetterman urges Democrats to end DHS shutdown as World Cup Security prep falls dangerously behind

Sen. John Fetterman is breaking with his own party over a DHS funding shutdown that has now dragged past 39 days, hollowed out the TSA workforce, and left security preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in serious jeopardy.


Fox News reported that the Pennsylvania Democrat said what most of his colleagues won't: it's time to stop. Fetterman didn't mince words about the standoff his party engineered.

"I could never justify this from the start, but here we are day 39, 40? It's like, how long are you gonna continue that?"


The answer, apparently, is as long as it takes to extract concessions on President Trump's immigration enforcement. That's what this has always been about. Democrats conditioned their support for DHS funding on reforms designed to rein in Trump's immigration crackdown.

The result: funding for the Department of Homeland Security first ran dry on Feb. 14, and Americans have been paying the price at airports ever since.


Workforce gutted in real time

The damage is not theoretical. DHS spokesperson Lauren Bis laid it out plainly in a press release:

"Now, 366 TSA officers have left the force. Because of this DHS shutdown, Americans are facing HOURS long waits at airports across the country. Democrats must reopen DHS now."


This is the second TSA shutdown in just three months. Officers aren't just calling out. They're quitting. Reports indicate TSA callouts have hit Houston, Atlanta, and New Orleans hardest, with as many as 450 officers gone nationwide.

These are the people responsible for screening every passenger who boards a commercial flight in America, and Democrats are treating their paychecks as a bargaining chip.


The timing could not be worse. The FIFA World Cup kicks off on June 11, less than three months away, with matches hosted in American cities that will draw millions of international and domestic travelers. DHS itself warned that the math simply doesn't work:


"TSA does not have the luxury of time. The FIFA World Cup is kicking off on June 11 – less than three months away. We are anticipating a significant influx in passenger volume as fans travel through our airports to see the games."

Even more damning was what followed:


"Even if TSA were to hire new officers upon the conclusion of the DHS shutdown, those officers would not be able to work on the checkpoint until well after the World Cup has concluded."


Read that again. The damage is already done. Every day this continues doesn't just delay recovery; it makes recovery before the World Cup impossible. Fetterman grasped the stakes immediately.

"Preparations are significantly behind and now we're 77 days out and this is still shut down."


The Senate's funding trick

The Senate advanced most DHS funding in the early hours of Friday morning. On paper, that sounds like progress. In practice, it was a maneuver. The Senate bill supplied funding for the many agencies operating under DHS, but carved out one conspicuous exception: Immigration and Customs Enforcement.


House Speaker Mike Johnson read the bill's actual text aloud and demolished the pretense:

"This gambit that was done last night is a joke. I'm quite convinced — it can't be that every Senate Republican read the language of this bill. It's pretty alarming. It says, quote: 'The contents printed under the headings of this bill: U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement and border security operations… an amount specified in the final bill shall be zero.'"


Zero. Fund the airports, but defund the enforcement agency Democrats find politically inconvenient. That was the deal on offer. Johnson's response was two words: "We're not doing that."


The House advanced its own package late Friday night, a straightforward two-month extension of DHS funding at current levels. Clean, simple, no games. It is reportedly unlikely to survive the Senate.


Meanwhile, DHS and ICE have already received $75 billion through Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill Act in July 2025, though House Republicans have stressed it remains unclear whether those funds can legally cover all of ICE's operations.

Trump signed an executive order on Friday aimed at funding TSA worker salaries directly. An action where Congress offered gridlock.


Democrats chose this fight

The pattern here is unmistakable. Democrats have repeatedly demonstrated they will sacrifice operational government functions to resist immigration enforcement.

They didn't shut down DHS because they oppose airport security. They shut it down because they oppose deportations, and DHS houses the agency that carries them out.


Fetterman, to his credit, has called this what it is. He urged members of his own party to focus on the country's outstanding travel needs instead of continuing to pursue their demands. His exasperation was palpable:

"[It's] just getting harder and harder to justify extending this shutdown."


He's right, though the word "harder" is generous. It was never justifiable. You don't hold airport security hostage to protect illegal immigrants from enforcement. You don't gamble with the safety of millions of World Cup travelers to score political points against an administration whose immigration policies won a national election.


What's actually at stake

Consider what June will look like if this isn't resolved soon:

  • Hundreds of TSA officers have already gone, with no time to train replacements before the World Cup

  • Millions of international visitors are flooding American airports in cities already experiencing severe TSA callouts

  • A depleted security workforce is handling the largest sporting event ever held on American soil


Fetterman framed the scale simply: "You have millions of people from abroad coming and millions of Americans joining these two."

That's not a hypothetical. That's a logistical reality barreling toward an unprepared system. Every senator who voted to keep this shutdown alive owns a share of whatever happens at those checkpoints in June.


Democrats wanted leverage against Trump's immigration agenda. What they got was a gutted TSA, a security crisis with a deadline, and one of their own telling them publicly to stop. The World Cup doesn't care about their negotiating strategy. Neither do the Americans standing in hours-long airport lines right now.

Iran’s missile system is North Korea’s creation, with regime providing technology since 2005: report

Iran’s vast missile system threatening the U.S. and Israel was developed by North Korea, according to Bruce Bechtol, co-author of “Rogue Allies: The Strategic Partnership Between Iran and North Korea.” The missile Iran launched at Diego Garcia—roughly 2,500 miles away—was a Musudan, with Iran buying 19 from North Korea and taking delivery in 2005, meaning “they have had this capability since 2005 — and this is no ‘secret weapon.’” North Korea constructed a large missile test facility at Emamshahr in Iran’s Fars Province and a tracking facility at Tabas in South Khorasan province.

·        Why it matters: North Korea proliferated around 150 No Dong systems to Iran in the late 1990s and contracted to build a No Dong facility in Iran, which produces the Shahab-3—”almost an exact copy of the No Dong”—as well as the Emad (1,087-mile range) and Ghadr (1,212-mile range) used to target Israel, Arab neighbors, and U.S. bases. The North Koreans also spawned the Khorramshahr-4, which carries a warhead “larger than any other in Iran’s missile inventory” weighing 1.5 to 2 tons armed with “what appears to be cluster munitions.”

 

·        The partnership: Bechtol described the strategic relationship: “North Korea is the seller and Iran is the buyer. North Korea proliferates weapons systems, technology, parts and components, technicians, engineers and specialists and military capabilities (such as the building of underground facilities) to Iran. Iran pays North Korea with cash and oil.
