Lee County, Alabama, home of Auburn University, has had the same sheriff since before the turn of the 21st Century. But on Tuesday night, Jay Jones was narrowly defeated, largely because he would not participate in basic illegal immigration enforcement.

A former Lee County deputy that was fired after deciding to run to become sheriff will now unseat the person that terminated him.
Cameron Hunt was elected to become Lee County's next sheriff Tuesday narrowly beating current Sheriff Jay Jones.
Cam Hunt launched his campaign against Jones because he was frustrated that the sheriff's office was not participating in the 287(g) which is a voluntary program that allows sheriff's offices to aid in immigration enforcement by holding illegal aliens for ICE and CBP.
Hunt was fired by Jones for launching this campaign, and Tuesday night it was Jones who was fired by the people of Lee County.
According to the Secretary of State's election results, Hunt received 51 percent of votes or 9,301 total to Jones's 49 percent totaling 8,994 votes.
Just 307 votes different between the two candidates.
And after 28 years, there's a new sheriff in town.

As Lyme disease becomes more recognized in Canada in recent years, it leaves behind it a trail of patients who have felt unseen and unheard by the medical profession — patients who may have fallen through the cracks due to the broad symptoms, the different stages of disease, and the way that Lyme disease can mimic other disorders.
“Lyme is known as the great new imitator. The old great imitator used to be syphilis,” she said. “Lyme can involve any organ system, joint pains can migrate around the body. This is why some doctors will sometimes think that patients are just imagining it.”
Keating said that some patients end up “shunted from doctor to doctor.”
“The long-standing symptoms can be mysterious, and the diagnostics aren’t very good,” she said.
Reported cases of Lyme have increased in Canada tenfold in the last decade, with more than 5,800 cases in 2024.
“It’s believed this is an underestimate of about thirteen-fold,” she said.
Keating is hopeful that education is bringing more awareness to tick-borne illnesses in Canada, not only for people to protect themselves, but for doctors to recognize the signs and symptoms.
