Dangerous Counterfeits
Pastor John Burke wrote about “near-death experiences,” or NDEs, in Imagine Heaven. I wrote about this book in 2024. I believe the experiences described are genuine and really occurred. In my opinion, that is a major point of the book.
If you look at Brother Burke’s book and the many other books, accounts, and videos of near-death experiences, not from the perspective of “is it real?,” but from the perspective of “who does it serve? and what is the goal?,” another picture appears.
The devil is a counterfeiter of things created by God, and his counterfeits are inversions of good. For example, he has his own unholy trinity of himself, the beast and the false prophet. This unholy trinity will cause death and destruction to the world, and will spend eternity in the lake of fire (Revelation 20:10).
After Philip the Deacon immersed the Ethiopian eunuch, the Holy Spirit lifted him up and took him to the city of Azotus (Acts 8:39). This, and other events, occurred because it was the will of God. The Lord intended it and had a purpose for the action.
Occultists and New Age proponents claim the ability to go to other places, either physically or in the spirit, by what they call “astral projection.” This is another counterfeit of the devil. Whereas the Spirit moving people is the will of God, astral projection is an inversion. It is based on the will of man, to go where he chooses for the purpose he desires. Astral projections are described as out-of-body experiences. This caused me to consider the descriptions of near-death experiences, which parallel these out-of-body experiences.
The great counterfeiter, the devil, is able to transport people into the spiritual realm, as in astral projection. He is able to present a spiritual picture of love and beauty. The Apostle Paul told us that Satan can transform into an “angel of light” (II Corinthians 11:14).
Near-death experiences seem to be a recent phenomenon. The International Association for Near-Death Studies was founded in 1981. The results of a survey they performed with people who had a near-death experience is very interesting.

· 30 percent said they are more empathetic toward others
· 26 percent said they are more generous and socially minded
If those who experience a near-death experience have actually been to Heaven, where is the compelling belief in the One True God, the Most High God, the ruler of Heaven and earth? Some believe they have seen the Lord Jesus, but their lives indicate a nonchalant attitude toward Him. Many of those who had a near-death experience return with a warm feeling that death is nothing to fear. They feel more “spiritual” but do not give glory to God.
This seems to answer the question of “who does these experiences serve?” and “what is the goal?” Many, not all, near-death experiences appear to serve the devil, whose goal is to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). I strongly suspect that the devil counterfeits these experiences, so that those returning from “Heaven” spread the word that death is OK. Just continue being a “good person” doing “good works” and you do not have to worry about the “afterlife.” The devil is the father of lies (John 8:44) and he delights in it.
All mankind not covered by the blood of Jesus will be taken to the spiritual realm, the place where the Most High God dwells. I don’t know if they will feel love, peace, or joy, but I do know that they will appear before the throne of the majestic God who created all things, and who will judge their lives with righteousness and justice. It will be an humbling experience.
There have been near-death experiences where the person returns with a love for the Lord and a concern that others know the truth about Heaven and Hell. One such person was Howard Storm, an art teacher and atheist who experienced a hellish spiritual situation and, after calling on the Lord Jesus, was rescued. He is now a Christian preacher. That would seem to be a natural result of a near-death experience.
If you know someone who has had a near-death experience, use their feelings of spirituality to show them the truth of Heaven and the simple plan of Salvation which easily enables all to go there. It is not about “feelings” but about the saving Grace of our Heavenly Father who loves all people and desires that they all spend eternity with Him (II Peter 3:9). May His name be praised forever!

The Smith government’s commitment to achieve Alberta net-zero greenhouse gas emissions — Alberta NZE by 2050

The Smith government’s commitment to achieve Alberta net-zero greenhouse gas emissions — Alberta NZE by 2050 could result in an estimated $397 billion or 3% loss in economic activity (GDP) over 25 years (2025 to 2050) compared to business-as-usual (BAU). This is among the key insights drawn from new custom modelling prepared for me by Navius Research, using its highly regarded gTech/IESD model.
There continues to be little or no talk from the Alberta government about the impact of Alberta’s promise to reach Alberta NZE 2050. The commitment to Alberta NZE 2050 has been a cornerstone of Alberta’s climate change strategy since April 2023. But the Alberta government does not want to share its economic and fiscal impact assessment of Alberta NZE 2050, despite numerous Access to Information (ATI) requests I have submitted over the past few years. The new analysis, presented here, serves to fill this considerable void.
In my analysis, I look at the difference between two policy scenarios: a business-as-usual (BAU) case known as the Announced Policy Scenario and a Net Zero Policy Scenario.
Under the Announced Policy Scenario, I assume a binding effective Alberta TIER/carbon price of $130.00 per tonne by 2030 and hold that price stable in nominal terms out to 2050. This is roughly analogous to the aspirations established under the Canada-Alberta Implementation Agreement on carbon pricing.
While the Canada-Alberta Implementation Agreement on carbon pricing references a $130 per tonne effective carbon price, it provides no mechanism to achieve that other than through a price floor. Currently, the effective carbon price is mostly just a policy objective, not the actual policy itself. This awaits filling in the considerable details from actual policy design. Thus, the economic impacts of Alberta NZE 2050 as described below are likely understated.
As for the Net Zero Policy Scenario, an economy-wide emissions cap mandates a linear decrease to reach Alberta NZE by 2050. In this respect, I assume the Alberta government pursues the lowest cost policy path to net zero.
Both policy scenarios include the elimination of the Oil and Gas Emissions Cap (OGEC); elimination of the Clean Electricity Regulation (CER); a 75% reduction in methane emissions below 2014 levels by 2035; and continuation of federal and provincial investment tax credits (ITCs) for clean emissions reduction technologies, such as carbon capture and storage (CCS).
I use prudent assumptions for oil prices and the cost of various emissions reduction technologies, including CCS and hydrogen, and assume the availability of small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) and direct air capture (DAC). These emissions reduction technologies are all critical elements of the Alberta government’s 2023 climate change strategy.
The modelling also assumes an increase in Alberta’s oil production to around 7.6 million barrels per day by 2035, roughly aligned with the Alberta government’s roadmap target of 8 mb/d by 2035.
Key insights drawn from my analysis, comparing the Announced Policy Scenario versus the Net Zero Policy Scenario, include:
Alberta’s economic activity or GDP is estimated to be $45 billion ($2021), or 6% lower than BAU in 2050.
Alberta’s cumulative economic activity or GDP is estimated to be $397 billion, or 3% lower than BAU between 2025 and 2050.
Alberta’s cumulative oil and gas sector (excluding oil sands) GDP is estimated to be $193 billion, or 11% lower than BAU between 2025 and 2050.
Alberta’s total employment, expressed in full-time equivalents (FTEs), is estimated to be 126,000, or 3.4% lower than BAU in 2050.
Alberta’s oil and gas sector (excluding oil sands) employment is estimated to be 37,000, or 21% lower than BAU in 2050.
Alberta’s oil production is estimated to be 1.1 million barrels per day, or 14% lower than BAU in 2050.
Alberta’s oil sands production is estimated to be 514,000 barrels per day, or 9% lower than BAU in 2050.
Alberta government total revenues are estimated to be $5 billion (2021$), or 6% lower than BAU in 2050.
Alberta government cumulative total revenues are estimated to be $51 billion, or 3% lower than BAU between 2025 and 2050.
The Alberta government’s doubling down on NZE by 2050 in the Canada-Alberta MOU, without providing any comprehensive impact analysis to Albertans, is concerning to me.
Unless the Alberta government can produce its own numbers suggesting the impact will be much lower than my analysis implies, it should consider scrapping NZE 2050 and establish more realistic and achievable emission reduction targets for the province.

“You know we need some office jobs, but we sure need a heck of a lot more factory floor jobs and field jobs, and so that’s part of the reason we want to try to get a mandate so that we can manage that whole process from the beginning to the end. “ While agreeing with Smith that jurisdictions know what’s best for their own economies and wanting more control over provincial immigration numbers, Ford noted problems with Ontario’s ability to approve individuals for permanent residency.
“When I took office eight and a half eight years ago, we had 14 million people. We’re at 16.3 million. But all of a sudden, you know, the feds bring in people. We train them up, and we’ve had this discussion with all the premiers and the prime minister at the table, and we’re all in 100 per cent agreement,” he said.
He said “hardworking people” who migrated to the province might even have families, children in school, and be renting or buying a home in some cases when they receive a letter in the mail telling them they have to “go back where they came from.”

A New York town keeps silencing Christians.
The ACLJ expanded our lawsuit against Brighton after discovering a second resident was stonewalled when he asked to display a "Happy Easter, He Is Risen" banner – just like our first client's Nativity scene was banned.

A House Judiciary report details Jack Smith's effort to take down President Trump during the 2024 election season: secretly seizing phone records of 44 Members of Congress, including then-Speaker McCarthy, hiding it behind gag orders, and dumping a trove of alleged evidence just weeks before Election Day to sway voters.
Smith's excuse? He blames President Trump for contacting lawmakers. In other words, for doing his job as President.
Christians are being treated as second-class citizens in their own neighborhoods. An HOA banned a weekly Bible study that had met with approval for over two years, while secular clubs still meet freely.

Palace and Ministers put the Decision with Elected Government
Palace spokesmen stressed the constitutional settlement. Apologies and reparations, they said, are matters for the government, not a solo royal decree.
A Buckingham Palace spokesman said:
"His Majesty, of course, always acts on the advice of his government as part of our constitutional settlement. He has a long history of engaging on this particular issue and all of the things that he has said at CHOGM and elsewhere in the past, about his personal sorrow, about this particular period of our history, are worth repeating."
The same spokesman added that the King’s record includes personal support for Commonwealth education programmes and decades of work through The King’s Trust aimed at young people. The point, the Palace argued, is practical engagement on inequalities that still endure.
On the core demand, the line was blunt:
"But as far as reparations and apologies go, that is a matter for the Government."
And again:
"And His Majesty always acts on his government’s advice."
A government spokesman matched that position. The government “absolutely acknowledges that the transatlantic trade in enslaved people was abhorrent, and that the impacts of that were horrific and do endure to today.” It also restated the cash red line.
The spokesman said:
"The Government has been clear that it will not pay financial reparations."
Officials instead point to dialogue with Commonwealth partners and “modern, forward looking partnerships.” That is the offer: talk and cooperation, not a transfer of billions of pounds.
Tour dates put the dispute on the calendar
The King is due in The Bahamas from October 27 to 29. He remains head of state there. A two-day state visit to Guyana follows at the invitation of the country’s president. Guyana is described as the world’s fastest-growing economy and the UK’s biggest trading partner in the Caribbean.
Queen Camilla joins him in Antigua from November 1 to 4. The couple will attend the biennial Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Antigua and Barbuda in November. New British Prime Minister Andy Burnham is anticipated to join them for what would be an early diplomatic summit with the head of state.
Visit programmes, the Palace said, were built in close consultation with host governments. The schedule will not dodge “the darkest days of our past,” in the King’s earlier phrase. But hosts want the emphasis on the present and the future of each country.
A Palace spokesman framed the moment this way:
"This year’s CHOGM... comes at an important time in the history of the relationship between the United Kingdom and the countries of the Caribbean in particular. There are important discussions taking place in various fora about colonial legacy and the intergenerational impact of the transatlantic trade in enslaved persons."
Those discussions, the Palace added, are “primarily matters for Governments to address.” The King’s prior words have called the trade an “atrocity” which “forever stains our history.”
Campaigners demand more than acknowledgment
That history of acknowledgment is not enough for some activists. Dr Niambi Hall Campbell-Dean, chair of the Bahamas National Reparations Committee, urged a formal apology for the Crown’s links to slavery and warned against an empty-handed visit.
She said:
"For [King Charles] to come to our island and not be prepared to apologise for the wrongs of the past is unacceptable."
Pressure is not limited to The Bahamas. Jamaica lodged a petition in the UK last month demanding that the monarch seek legal guidance on slavery reparations. Clarity was sought from the judicial committee of the privy council, the final court of appeal for some Commonwealth countries and UK overseas territories. Culture minister Olivia Grange described the request as one made of the King in his role as Jamaica’s head of state, “from whom we expect protection.”
Any reparational justice bill, campaigners and coverage note, could run into billions of pounds. That figure alone explains why elected governments, not hereditary symbols, are the proper place for the decision.
Prior words already on the record
This is not the first time the issue has followed a royal tour. In November 2021, in Barbados, the King became the first senior British royal to explicitly and publicly acknowledge the “appalling atrocity” of the trade and its historical stain. The coming visits are expected to follow a similar path: speeches and landmarks tied to that past, stopping short of a formal apology or a payout.
In March 2026, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring the transatlantic trafficking of enslaved Africans a “grave crime against humanity.” Activists treat that language as fresh fuel. The British government treats it as history already faced, not a blank check.
Palace language again ties the King’s approach to host priorities and to work already done “to acknowledge the wrongs of the past and to find creative ways to ‘right inequalities that endure.’” Opportunities on the tour, spokesmen said, will renew that personal commitment. They will not revise government policy on cash transfers.
Dialogue offered, the bill declined
The government says it remains committed to “meaningful, truthful, and respectful dialogue” and to understanding legacies of the past with Commonwealth partners. A prior prime minister repeated that pledge at the last CHOGM. The current message is the same: partnership and forward focus, not financial reparations.
That leaves a familiar split. Campaign groups want apology theater and open-ended money. Britain’s elected government says the trade was abhorrent, the effects still matter, and the Treasury will not guarantee a historic guilt levy measured in billions. The King, under the constitutional settlement, follows that advice.
Host nations helped shape itineraries aimed at today’s priorities. Guyana’s growth story and trade ties sit in plain view. The Bahamas and Antigua dates put ceremony and CHOGM diplomacy on the schedule. None of that requires the Crown to pen a check that ministers have already refused.
Endless demands for royal apology and reparations treat the past as a permanent invoice. Britain’s government chose accountability to living voters over a blank check for history, and the King is right to follow that advice.

Justice Department targets Minnesota Federal Bench over New York Times immigration remarks

The Department of Justice has filed a judicial misconduct complaint against Minnesota federal judges who spoke to the press about immigration enforcement while cases remained active, a move Fox News legal editor Kerri Urbahn examined on America Reports.
Attorney General Todd Blanche took the rare step of asking the Eighth Circuit to police nearly the entire active Minnesota federal district bench. The complaint centers on New York Times interviews about immigration operations and seeks to keep those judges off Department of Homeland Security cases.
The filing lands alongside a separate DOJ push on election integrity in Minnesota. Together, the actions raise a core law-and-order question: whether federal judges may publicly weigh in on pending controversies without eroding public confidence in neutral courts.
What the misconduct complaint alleges
Just The News reported that the Justice Department lodged the complaint with the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals against Minnesota federal judges who spoke to the New York Times, including Judge Patrick Schlitz and Judge John Tunheim.
The complaint points to a Times piece titled “Trump’s Minnesota Surge Threatened Democracy, Judge Warns.” It features Judge Schlitz and other Minnesota jurists discussing the administration’s deportation work in Minneapolis.
DOJ says the problem is twofold. Comments that sound political violate judicial ethics. Comments that touch matters still before the court violate a second rule. The department wants Schlitz and Tunheim barred from DHS matters and wants a full review of their conduct.
In the complaint language highlighted in that coverage, DOJ put the recusal demand in plain terms:
“These judges should be ordered to recuse from any matters involving DHS because the public reasonably questions their impartiality in cases involving immigration.”
The same account states that Schlitz’s commentary, as DOJ alleged, included inappropriately partisan remarks. No public finding of misconduct has been announced. The complaint opens a disciplinary process; it does not itself decide guilt.
Blanche’s case for an ethics breach
Reuters placed the filing on September 30. It reported that judges had criticized the Trump administration’s handling of court orders and had described threats to the rule of law. Two judges spoke on the record.
Attorney General Todd Blanche called the media appearances a clear ethical breach and asked that the judges step aside from DHS cases. Reuters quoted him directly on the duty line:
“clear violation of their ethical duties”
A defense of the judges came from Rebecca Parks, who said ethics experts backed their decision to speak. She framed the interviews as advocacy for the rule of law and judicial independence:
“As legal-ethics experts have confirmed, our judges were acting well within the ethical rules that apply to federal judges in speaking to the New York Times.”
That dispute is now before the Eighth Circuit’s misconduct process. Investigators will need to determine what each judge said, whether any remarks addressed pending matters, and whether the statements crossed canons that bar political activity and public comment on live cases.
Nearly the full Minnesota district bench named
Coverage from the Washington Examiner described the complaint as aimed at nearly all active Minnesota federal district judges over their New York Times interviews about immigration enforcement. The paper said the filing alleges bias and discussion of pending cases.
Blanche tied the ethics problem to both politics and live dockets. The Examiner recorded his assessment:
“The comments are not only political, which is a violation, but concern matters pending before the judges, a separate violation.”
The remedy DOJ seeks is concrete. It wants recusal from civil and criminal cases involving the Department of Homeland Security. In practical terms, that would shrink the pool of Minnesota federal judges available for immigration-related litigation until the complaint is resolved or narrowed.
Authorities have not publicly confirmed the full roster of every judge named beyond the emphasis on Schlitz, Tunheim, and the near-entire active bench. Docket numbers and the precise misconduct canons cited in the formal papers were not detailed in the available accounts.
Parallel Minnesota election indictments
The same Washington Examiner report linked the judicial filing to a broader DOJ posture in Minnesota. The Justice Department announced indictments against 10 foreign nationals on election-related charges.
Prosecutors charged nine counts of illegal voting by a noncitizen and nine counts of falsely claiming U.S. citizenship to register to vote. The conduct, as described, spanned Minnesota elections from 2022 through 2026.
Blanche framed the voting cases as a trust issue for the ballot box:
“Voter fraud erodes the public’s trust in our electoral system.”
Officials cast both tracks, the voting indictments and the judicial complaint, as efforts to protect electoral integrity and judicial ethics amid fights over detention operations. The indictment subjects remain defendants unless and until a court enters convictions. The judicial complaint remains an ethics referral, not a ruling on the merits of any immigration case.
How the process works from here
A misconduct complaint to the Eighth Circuit starts an internal judicial discipline path. Circuit officials review whether the allegations state a claim under the rules that govern federal judges. That review can lead to dismissal, further inquiry, corrective action, or other discipline short of removal, depending on what the record shows.
DOJ’s public demand focuses on recusal from DHS matters. Recusal means a judge steps off a case so another judge hears it. The department argues that public confidence already requires that step because the interviews created a reasonable question about impartiality.
Parks’s response stakes the opposite ground: that judges may speak to defend the rule of law and independence, and that the Times interviews stayed inside ethics guidance. The Eighth Circuit process is where those competing claims will be tested against the actual interview text, the case dockets then pending, and the canons that limit public comment.
Investigators will need to determine several open points that public statements have not settled. What exact language each judge used. Which cases, if any, were pending before them at the time. Whether “nearly the entire” active bench faces identical allegations or varied fact patterns. What interim case-assignment steps Minnesota federal courts will take while the complaint is pending.
Why the stakes run beyond one circuit
Federal trial judges hold enormous power over immigration enforcement, detention, and related criminal dockets. When those judges talk to national media about the same enforcement surge that creates their caseload, the public has to decide whether the courtroom still looks fair.
DOJ’s filing treats that appearance problem as urgent enough for a circuit-level complaint and a blanket recusal ask on DHS work. The judges’ defenders treat the interviews as protected institutional speech about court orders and independence.
Either way, the episode forces a clean line. Judges decide cases. Elected branches set and execute enforcement policy. Media interviews that blur those lanes invite exactly the ethics fight now teed up in the Eighth Circuit.
Kerri Urbahn’s America Reports segment put the DOJ action in front of a national audience the day after the September 30 filing date carried in wire coverage. The clip ran one minute and twenty-six seconds and framed the core charge: misconduct complaints against Minnesota judges who spoke to the media about an ongoing controversy.
