York University banned an MP from visiting... So, we sent six Rebels!
York University Student Centre cancels talk by MP Garnett Genuis — was it because he's Conservative?
Garnett Genuis, a Conservative MP, was scheduled to speak to students at Toronto’s York University on Friday. But at the last minute, a woke student union activist banned the speech from proceeding.
Genuis disclosed this on social media but… did nothing. He didn’t write a letter to the university’s board of governors, and he certainly didn’t go to court to assert his freedom of speech under the Charter.
All he did was suggest that any students who had wanted to meet him should contact him at his office.
But really, what university student in Toronto is going to phone an Edmonton-area MP just for a chat? And wasn’t the whole point to meet students who aren’t decided, and try to persuade them?
And: isn’t the main point to stand up for freedom of speech? If an elected MP — with a staff and a budget and connections in the media — can’t stand up to some woke student bureaucrat, what kind of example is that setting for students?
So Rebel News did what had to be done: we sent a team of SIX Rebels to York University, including our newest journalist, Scarlett Grace, and of course our big, beautiful billboard truck that had blazing messages of freedom on it!
Our goal was simply to talk to students about freedom of speech — and, if possible, to find the woke bully who cancelled Genuis’s speech.
I’m pleasantly surprised! No one tried to kick us out — not students, not campus security and certainly not any police. We spent more than two hours there!
Which brings me back to Garnett Genuis, and his decision to surrender at the first whiff of trouble: sometimes you have to push back at the bullies. If you give up without even trying, do you really even care about freedom?
Hopefully, Genius and all other MPs will take some encouragement from our free speech visit. As you can see in the video, we still have a lot to do. But we’re not afraid to do it. And we’re not afraid to stand up to any bullies trying to stop us!

The US Military carries out large-scale Strikes against Islamic State targets across Syria
Saturday's operation was part of Operation Hawkeye Strike, authorized by Donald Trump in response to an attack on US and Syrian forces in Palmyra last December.
The US military has carried out multiple strikes in Syria targeting the Islamic State militant group.
According to US Central Command, the large-scale strikes were carried out at around 12.30 pm Eastern time (5.30 pm in the UK).
It said in a statement that the operation was part of Operation Hawkeye Strike, authorized by Donald Trump "in direct response to the deadly ISIS attack on US and Syrian forces in Palmyra, Syria, on 13 December" last year.
"That ambush, carried out by an ISIS terrorist, resulted in the tragic deaths of two American soldiers and one US civilian interpreter," the military command said.
The US president previously vowed to "retaliate" over the strikes toward the end of last year.

The statement did not note whether anyone was killed in the strikes. Footage shared by the command showed a series of explosions
Our message remains strong," Central Command added. "If you harm our warfighters, we will find you and kill you anywhere in the world, no matter how hard you try to evade justice."
Re-sharing the statement on X, US defence secretary Pete Hegseth said: "We will never forget, and never relent."

It marks the latest strike from the US in Syria as part of the operation, with a similar attack on ISIS targets being carried out on 20 December.

The OBBBA, passed in July, features retroactive provisions affecting taxes on 2025 earnings, leading to bigger refunds since most working Americans have not adjusted their paycheck withholding. “The bill was passed in July. Working Americans didn’t change their withholding, so they’re going to be getting very large refunds in the first quarter,” Bessent told NBC10.
‘Taxpayers' take-home pay to see boost’ Once taxpayers receive these refunds and update their withholding, they will see a genuine boost in take-home pay throughout 2026, according to Bessent. Bessent also encouraged Americans to check their withholding and estimated payments to avoid overpaying or underpaying in future years.
