President Donald Trump warns 'Governor Carney' against making Canada a port for Chinese goods entering the US
President Donald Trump threatened on Saturday that he would implement 100% tariffs on Canada if it strikes a deal to become a "drop off port" for China.
"If Governor Carney thinks he is going to make Canada a "drop off port" for China to send goods and products into the United States, he is sorely mistaken. China will eat Canada alive, completely devour it, including the destruction of their businesses, social fabric, and general way of life," Trump wrote earlier on Truth Social.
"If Canada makes a deal with China, it will immediately be hit with a 100% tariff against all Canadian goods and products coming into the U.S.A.," the president added.
Trump referred to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney as a "governor," echoing comments he made while campaigning for a second term about annexing America’s northern neighbour. He previously used the same term when speaking about Carney’s predecessor, Justin Trudeau.

In a follow-up post, Trump asserted, "The last thing the World needs is to have China take over Canada. It’s NOT going to happen, or even come close to happening! Thank you for your attention to this matter."
Carney made his first official visit to China earlier this month as he and Chinese President Xi Jinping work together to forge an improved bond between their countries.
During the Jan. 14-17 visit, the leaders of the two nations reached an agreement that would allow up to 49,000 Chinese electric vehicles to enter the Canadian market at a lower tariff rate of 6.1%, Carney's office announced.
"At its best, the Canada-China relationship has created massive opportunities for both our peoples. By leveraging our strengths and focusing on trade, energy, agri-food, and areas where we can make huge gains, we are forging a new strategic partnership that builds on the best of our past, reflects the world as it is today, and benefits the people of both our nations," Carney said in the statement.
Additionally, by March 1, China is expected to drop its tariff on Canadian canola seed to a combined rate of 15%. Carney's office said that Canada expects that its canola meal, lobsters, crabs and peas will not be subject to relevant anti-discrimination tariffs beginning March 1 "until at least the end of this year."

It is unclear what deal would trigger a response from Trump in the wake of the ones made during Carney's trip to China.
Tensions between Carney and Trump have flared in recent days, as the leaders took swipes at one another at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and at home after the conference.
Carney, fresh off his trip to China, delivered a speech that garnered international attention. While he did not mention Trump by name, he made a reference to the U.S., saying that "rules-based order is fading." Many, including the U.S. president, saw this as a jab at Trump.
"Every day we’re reminded that we live in an era of great-power rivalry," Carney said. "That the rules-based order is fading. That the strong can do what they can, and the weak must suffer what they must."

He admitted that there were benefits to U.S. leadership on the world stage, but painted the entire concept of a rules-based international order as a falsity that is actively failing. Additionally, in his address, Carney urged middle powers, like Canada, to assert themselves and take the opportunity to "build a new order that embodies our values."
"Middle powers must act together because if you are not at the table, you are on the menu," Carney said.
When delivering his address on Wednesday, Trump did not shy away from taking aim at Carney. He said that Canada "should be grateful" because the country gets "a lot of freebies" from the U.S., though he did not say what he was referring to.
"I watched your prime minister yesterday. He wasn't so grateful," Trump said. "Canada lives because of the United States. Remember that, Mark, the next time you make your statements."
In another apparent swipe at Carney, Trump issued an "open letter" to the Canadian leader on Truth Social, revoking Canada's invitation to join the Board of Peace, a U.S.-led council tasked with managing Gaza's post-war future.
"Please let this Letter serve to represent that the Board of Peace is withdrawing its invitation to you regarding Canada’s joining, what will be, the most prestigious Board of Leaders ever assembled, at any time. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" Trump wrote on Truth Social.
The inauguration of the Board of Peace took place after Carney had already departed, according to The Associated Press.

Upon his return to Canada, Carney addressed a cabinet retreat and took the opportunity to reject Trump's claim.
"Canada and the United States have built a remarkable partnership in the economy, in security, and in a rich cultural exchange," Carney said on Thursday while speaking in Plains of Abraham, Québec, during a cabinet retreat.
"But Canada doesn’t ‘live because of the United States’," he said, referencing Trump's remark. "Canada thrives because we are Canadian. We are masters in our own house. This is our country. This is our future. The choice is ours."

President Donald Trump has dropped a significant policy move that could reshape how mental health challenges are addressed in America. During a press briefing on Tuesday, Trump revealed he signed an executive order aimed at bringing back mental institutions and asylums.
He emphasized the need to address street homelessness by providing facilities for those struggling with serious mental health issues. The announcement builds on remarks he made in an August 2025 interview with Daily Caller White House Correspondent Reagan Reese, where he discussed the closure of such facilities in states like New York and California due to high costs.
The issue has sparked intense debate over how society balances compassion with public safety. While some see this as an overdue return to structured care, others question the feasibility and ethics of revisiting past approaches.
Trump’s Personal Connection to the Issue
Trump tied his policy to personal memories from his childhood in Queens, New York, according to Breitbart. He recalled a place called Creedmoor, where he noticed “bars on the windows” and asked his mother about it. She explained that “people who are very sick are in that building,” a moment that stuck with him.

House Republicans split on Earmark Funding in Spending Bill

The big medical news of 2026 is that 2025's blockbuster drug, semaglutide (a.k.a. Ozempic or Wegovy) is now off patent in Canada.
In the U.S. and the rest of the world, patent protection remains in place. But in Canada, generic drug makers can now start producing the drug. That means this once prohibitively expensive medication may now become much more accessible. The implications for public policy are huge.
Though patent law is complex, the basic sequence of events is fairly straightforward. When a new drug is developed, companies can patent this new discovery and have a monopoly on its sale, allowing them to recoup development costs.
The standard length of a drug patent in Canada and the U.S. is 20 years. Drug companies still need to do human trials and get regulatory approval before they can bring a new drug to market, so their 20-year monopoly is much shorter in practice. But they can seek extensions to compensate for the time lost in approval delays.
All told, pharma companies can have several years of market exclusivity to profit from their new discovery — provided they pay the maintenance fees.
For reasons that are hard to understand, Novo Nordisk decided not to pay the maintenance fee for Ozempic's patent protection in Canada. Even after a reminder from the regulator and a one-year grace period, it did not pay the $450 fee and patent protection for semaglutide lapsed in Canada on Jan 4.
Novo Nordisk has said publicly that this was a deliberate decision, not an error. In fact, the company requested a refund of the 2017 fee because it wasn't sure it wanted to pay it.
True, the patent was not going to last forever, and semaglutide already is losing market share to other similar agents coming onto the market — like tirzepatide, which studies suggest is more effective at weight loss. But as far as strategic decisions go, the relatively small regulatory fee seems like a bizarre cost savings compared to the expected income from their medication.
Obesity is a global problem. Since 1990, global obesity rates have doubled. But after peaking in 2022, obesity rates have done something unexpected — they started to decrease.
From 2022 to 2025, obesity rates decreased by 37 per cent, meaning 7.6 million fewer obese adults in the United States.
While the arrival of Ozempic and similar obesity meds may not be solely responsible, the timing of the decrease is a strong suggestion that they are already having a major impact.
Loss of patent protection in Canada has huge potential implications. Health Canada is currently reviewing nine submissions for generic semaglutide. These are for the dose and formulations used to treat diabetes, but one assumes the approval for obesity doses are coming soon.
Once generic versions of medications are approved, prices drop. Under the current pricing structure set out by the pan-canadian Pharmaceutical Alliance, when there are three or more genetics on the Canadian market, prices are reduced by 75 per cent for oral medications and 65 per cent for other medications.
Final numbers may change, but a price reduction in that range can be expected for semaglutide. So rather than paying around $200 for a dose, consumers might see that reduced to $70. Even people without insurance might suddenly find these medications more affordable.
It is always dangerous to ask “what if?” But the implications of this price drop are hard to ignore. Could this result in a further drop of obesity rates? Will they be cheap enough to convince governments to cover the medications for obesity treatment and not just diabetes? Will this provide ammunition for legislators in the United States to negotiate lower prices in their country? Will we start seeing more Americans head north for lower prices?
It will be interesting to see the ripple effects. Stay tuned.

The more concerning discovery was that the machine was found to be specifically programmed to “mark” a ballot selection box to mimic a human, not staying within the lines, programmed to literally be “sloppy” and not neatly fill in the bubble, in order to disguise that the machine was marking the ballot, instead of the voter.
Remote access was also discovered, along with multiple ports on the machines for Ethernet, Internet and USB access, along with software designed to purposely keep the voting machine screen “asleep” or “off” when the machine is being remotely accessed from an off-site location to alter votes without anyone at the physical voting machine location ever knowing it was even happening.
The only reason you would ever purposely program the machine to disguise that a machine is filling in a selection on a ballot over a person is if you were going to commit fraud on a massive scale.
The device also ejects and re-inserts ballots for vote verification, a step that Jeffery Lendberg and David Clements stated could enable fraud. Some reversal rates reached up to 20% in certain states, which is more than enough to change the outcome of an election.
