WASHINGTON, Feb 22 (Reuters) - U.S. Secret Service and local police shot and killed a man armed with a shotgun early on Sunday after he breached a secure perimeter at President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, law enforcement officials said.

 

Trump, who is currently in Washington, was not at the site at the time. The man in Sunday's incident was identified as Austin Tucker Martin, 21, from North Carolina, according to a source familiar with the investigation. Martin was reported missing within the last few days, according to the source.

 

The incident occurred at a time when the United States is facing a spike in political violence, opens a new tab. In 2024, a gunman's bullet grazed Trump's ear during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, and a man later convicted of attempted assassination was spotted hiding in the bushes of a Florida golf course with a semi-automatic rifle while Trump was on the course.

 

'A CRAZY PERSON,' WHITE HOUSE SAYS

The man was carrying a shotgun and a fuel can, the U.S. Secret Service said in a statement, adding that he was observed at the resort's north gate around 1:30 a.m. EST (0630 GMT).

 

Two U.S. Secret Service agents and a Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputy confronted the man and ordered him to drop the two items, Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said at a press conference on Sunday morning.

 

The man put down the gas can and raised the shotgun "to a shooting position," prompting law enforcement to open fire, Bradshaw said.

 

The man was declared dead at the scene. No law enforcement officers were injured.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said the Secret Service "acted quickly and decisively to neutralize a crazy person, armed with a gun and a gas canister, who intruded on President Trump's home."

FBI HEADS INVESTIGATION

Law enforcement officials did not reveal any information about the motive for the incident. The FBI has taken over the investigation and is collecting evidence from the scene, officials said.

 

FBI Director Kash Patel said in a social media post that the agency is "dedicating all necessary resources" to the investigation.

 

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said he spoke with Trump after the incident. Bessent thanked the Secret Service for protecting the president and his family.

"We don't know whether this person was a mastermind, unhinged or what," Bessent said on the Fox News program "Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo."

 

In 2024, Trump faced two assassination attempts, including one at his golf course in West Palm Beach. The perpetrator of that incident was sentenced to life in prison this month.

Melissa Hortman, a Democratic state lawmaker in Minnesota, was shot and killed in June 2025 along with her husband. Months later, conservative activist Charlie Kirk was also assassinated.

A loving dad and his three young sons are showing the world the true impact of running regular errands for Mom.

Riverside, California-born Brooklyn Powell, 35, and her husband, Jonathan Powell, 36, live in their hometown with their four kids. When Mr. Powell, a business owner, took one of his wife’s most challenging errands into his own hands one day, it was a game-changer for the overworked mom.

“The conversation came up when I had Oaklyn,” Mrs. Powell told The Epoch Times. “She hates the car ... so [my husband] went to pick up our groceries and filled my car with gas one time, and I just told him, ‘Hey, that was such a weight lifted off of me!’

“He took it upon himself to be like, ‘Okay, well that was easy for me to do ... I can do this for you every week and make a huge difference in your stress level.’”

Not only did Mr. Powell’s gesture relieve his wife’s stress, but it was also a teachable moment for their three young boys, who started joining their dad on his weekly trip to fill the car, wash the car, and collect groceries.

“He and I both realized that we are instilling these traits, these characteristics, these standards ... that my boys take into their future marriages with their wives,” Mrs. Powell said, “and Oaklyn is going to expect and realize that it’s a team, a husband and wife ... that mentality of, ‘How can I love you better? How can I serve you better?’”

Being loved and served by her husband and boys every week makes Mrs. Powell feel “appreciated, seen, and heard.” She never expected a montage of her boys running their errand shared on Instagram to go viral.

“People are just seeing this highlight reel ... we are so far from perfect,” she told The Epoch Times. “But I love it when people can celebrate when something is pure. Guys can be reminded of how they can love their wives, and then also for girls to remember to communicate with their husbands. I think, for a lot of people, that would be a game-changer.”

Breaking Research Decodes the Mystery of “The Rubbery White Clots” https://nzdsos.com/2026/02/04/breakin... First time, comprehensively characterized the anomalous intravascular casts (AICs), commonly reported by embalmers worldwide as strange, rubbery white clots. Research, significantly funded by New Zealand Doctors Speaking Out with Science (NZDSOS), provides a definitive analysis that these structures are a previously unrecognized and abnormal form of intravascular clotting. Their rubber-like consistency and cohesive strength are incompatible with known pre- and post-mortem changes. Lines of Zahn are characteristic of thrombus formed at the site of rapid arterial blood flow, with laminations produced by successive deposition of platelets and fibrin (pale layers), alternating with red blood cells (dark layers).

It was revealed that the clots have a bizarre chemical fingerprint. They are depleted in sulphur (a key marker of protein) and enriched in phosphorus, a composition impossible for a normal, protein-dominant fibrin clot. This indicates a hybrid organic-inorganic matrix, not a simple blood clot.

Solved the protein puzzle. While the clots do contain fibrinogen, the building block of normal clots, the fibrin chains are in a very abnormal ratio (~1:7:3 for α:β:γ chains vs. the normal 1:1:1). Critically, they are almost completely lacking in plasminogen (the enzyme required to break down clots), explaining their stubborn persistence. The protein profile also shows signs of inflammatory and immune system involvement as well as red cell destruction.

 

Senior Researcher Dr. Bruce Rapley, “This is not just a big blood clot. This is a fundamentally different architecture. The profound deficiency in plasminogen is like building a structure impervious to future demolition – it’s designed to persist. The elemental data confirms it’s not just protein; it’s a hybrid material our bodies are forced to make but not equipped to clear.” This holds a significant health implication.

 

The researchers note that the formation of such persistent, obstructing material in blood vessels, particularly if in the microvasculature, will lead to chronic oxygen lack, organ damage, pain, exhaustion, and cascades of inflammatory pathology. The study concludes that AICs' anomalous intravascular casts, “provide a mechanistically coherent explanation for persistent vascular obstruction, impaired tissue perfusion, inflammation, and a broad spectrum of acute and chronic organ dysfunction.”

 

A Call for Urgent Investigation: The paper highlights the COVID-19 injections as a crucial research direction: “If spike protein were demonstrated to provoke anomalous intravascular casts, this would raise serious implications not only for COVID pathophysiology but also for genetic platforms that induce sustained host manufacture of spike protein, making it imperative that this potential association be rigorously investigated.” Dr. Shelton,
