When Paul identifies Christ as our sanctification, he’s describing something that happens at the moment believers enter into union with him—not a gradual process of moral improvement. The  saints became fully sanctified because Christ was perfectly holy, and their position “in him” as their representative caused them to be considered entirely holy.

CANADIAN:

BC declares state of emergency after wildfire expands as thousands evacuated

SUMMERLAND — The British Columbia government has declared a provincial state of emergency after a ferocious wildfire forced 20,000 people out of two communities along Okanagan Lake.

Premier David Eby said Saturday that the fast-moving wildfire that pushed people out of Summerland and Peachland was "like a bomb" going off.

 

Eby said some people became trapped by the fire and needed to be rescued, and search and rescue efforts continue behind the fire lines for anyone else who may have been caught.

Cliff Chapman, the director of wildfire operations with BC Wildfire Services, said during the briefing that firefighting helicopters were instead used for search and rescue operations for those who could no longer get out.


"I am certain that the outcome of this event would have been significantly worse had we not worked together, multi-jurisdictionally across this fire, everybody stepping up to save people's lives in Summerland."

The Summerland fire is just one of several wildfires that have threatened communities and destroyed homes in the province this summer.

About 350 buildings, most of them homes, have been destroyed in fires in the Cariboo and Okanagan regions.


Of the more than 100 wildfires burning, almost half of them are out of control, fuelled by hot and windy weather and long-standing drought conditions.

Chapman said fire conditions in the southern part of the province are "explosive" and more wildfires similar to the one that forced the evacuation Summerland could spring up.

Evacuation orders cover the entire community of Summerland, population 12,000, while a further 8,000 were rushed out in and around Peachland, both on the western shore of the Okanagan Lake.


Officials have not tallied destruction from the fire, but the flame front overwhelmed the smaller community of Faulder as the Bald Range wildfire closed the 15-kilometre distance to Summerland in just a few hours.

A perimeter map put out by the BC Wildfire Service on Saturday suggests the fire rolled over numerous homes right to the waterline north of Summerland.

“I know many families are facing an unimaginable day today. People have lost their homes. And many people have been displaced," Eby said during the briefing. "Others are waiting for news about loved ones."


The blaze was first reported at 5:30 p.m. Friday, but it exploded in size, burning 50 square kilometres in a few hours, raining ash on Summerland.

By Saturday morning the fire had nearly doubled again, growing to 95 square kilometres.

Kamala Harris Makes Major Voter ID Blunder

Kamala Harris is once again finding herself at the center of a firestorm after resurfacing and fresh remarks on voter identification requirements set social media ablaze this past week. The former vice president, who has increasingly positioned herself as a leading voice against Republican-backed election integrity measures, posted a video on X warning Americans that the Trump administration is trying to make it harder for people to vote. The comments could not have come at a more inconvenient time for Democrats, as the Senate remains locked in a bitter standoff over the SAVE America Act, the sweeping voter ID and citizenship verification bill that President Trump has demanded lawmakers pass before the midterms.


In the clip, which Trump himself later shared on Truth Social, Harris broke down her opposition to the legislation in blunt terms. She told viewers that the bill would require Americans to prove who they are through a passport or a birth certificate in order to register to vote, calling it an unnecessary obstacle. She went further, invoking the Supreme Court’s recent Callais decision, which reshaped how the Voting Rights Act applies to redistricting cases, and tying it into a broader narrative about voter suppression.


Conservatives online had a field day. Commenters flooded social media pointing out the obvious: requiring identification to prove who you are before casting a ballot is not exactly a radical concept to most Americans. One widely shared post responded to Harris’s warning by noting that requiring proof of identity to vote sounds like exactly the kind of commonsense safeguard the vast majority of the country already supports. Another user sarcastically thanked Harris for stating the obvious, noting that having to prove your identity to vote is generally understood as a feature of a functioning democracy, not a flaw.


The irony was not lost on many, either. Some pointed to Harris’s own history on the issue, resurfacing a 2019 comment in which she expressed support for eliminating electronic voting machines in favor of paper ballots, a position that at the time was framed as an election security measure. Critics asked, pointedly, what exactly changed between then and now that turned Harris from an advocate of stronger election safeguards into one of the loudest voices against a bill designed to verify that only citizens are casting ballots.


The renewed scrutiny of Harris’s stance also dredged up an older and arguably more memorable moment from her time as vice president, when she suggested that rural voters might struggle to comply with voter ID requirements because they lacked easy access to photocopying machines. Senate Majority Leader John Thune revived that particular quote on the Senate floor, needling Harris for suggesting that rural Americans could not manage to photocopy identification documents.


Thune, who represents South Dakota, noted dryly that people in rural communities do in fact possess photo identification and use it regularly, adding that South Dakota already requires a photo ID to vote without any of the doomsday consequences Harris predicted.

The renewed viral attention comes as the Senate remains gridlocked over the SAVE Act itself, legislation that has become something of a proving ground for where Republicans and Democrats stand heading into the midterms.


The bill, formally known as the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, would require documentary proof of citizenship for voter registration in federal elections and mandate photo identification at the polls. It has passed the House of Representatives multiple times, most recently earlier this year, but has repeatedly stalled in the Senate where it needs sixty votes to overcome a Democrat filibuster.


Republicans hold fifty-three seats in the chamber, meaning they would need at least seven Democrats to cross the aisle to break the logjam. So far, not a single Democrat has been willing to do so. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has been unambiguous about his party’s opposition, declaring on the floor that not a single Democrat would support what he called a radical bill, and vowing to fight Republicans for as long as it takes to block it.


That resistance has infuriated the president, who has repeatedly demanded that Senate Republicans simply eliminate the filibuster and force the bill through with a simple majority. Trump reiterated that demand again this past week in an interview, saying Republicans needed to terminate the filibuster and get the SAVE Act passed immediately, along with what he described as roughly four hundred other priorities being held up by Senate procedure.


Not all Republicans are on board with that approach, however. Senate Majority Leader Thune has been careful to manage expectations, telling colleagues that the math simply is not there to force through the more aggressive procedural options being floated by conservative activists and some members of the House. Thune has instead pursued a strategy of putting Senate Democrats on record opposing the bill through a floor takeover, forcing multiple procedural votes designed to highlight which senators are blocking what Republicans describe as commonsense election security.


Complicating matters further, there has been internal Republican disagreement over how exactly to advance the legislation. Senator Rand Paul has floated using it as part of a budget reconciliation package, which would only require a simple majority to pass rather than the sixty votes needed to break a filibuster. Senator John Kennedy suggested optimism that Thune might bring the SAVE Act to the floor as part of a reconciliation bill, though that claim was quickly disputed by Paul himself, illustrating just how fluid and chaotic the legislative maneuvering has become as the August recess approaches.


Meanwhile, some moderate Democrats have shown at least rhetorical openness to some form of voter ID requirement, even while rejecting the current bill. Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania has said publicly that voter ID itself is not an unreasonable concept but argued the current version of the SAVE Act is needlessly complicated and would create bureaucratic hurdles for legitimate voters. That kind of daylight between rank-and-file Democrats and party leadership has given Republicans hope that continued pressure and public messaging, including moments like Harris’s viral remarks, could eventually crack the united Democrat front.'


For Republicans, Harris’s comments serve a dual purpose. They reinforce the party’s broader argument that Democrats are fundamentally uncomfortable with basic verification standards that most Americans take for granted in daily life, from boarding an airplane to opening a bank account. And they provide fresh ammunition for a messaging campaign that Thune has explicitly said will become a fall campaign issue if the Senate fails to pass the bill before the midterms.


Supporters of the SAVE Act argue that the legislation is simply about ensuring that only American citizens participate in American elections, a goal that polls consistently show has broad public support across party lines. Backers, including lead sponsors Representative Chip Roy of Texas and Senator Mike Lee of Utah, have framed the bill as a matter of basic election integrity rather than suppression, pointing out that similar identification requirements already apply to a wide range of everyday transactions.

On August 4th, the “Show Me State” overwhelmingly rejected a referendum to phase-out state income tax, a devastating 84-17 split which tells me that casual socialism and confiscatory practices masquerading as duty to “the poor” have gripped even the reddest of states.


This does not bode well for the future of America.

I love my Catholic faith, but I wish my Catholic Church were not so… stupid. It often is. I thought Pope Marxis had died… but I guess his spirit of Liberation Theology which rejects the free market and celebrates the state will live on for quite some time.

But, let me tackle one thing at a time. First let me render to Ceasar, then to Church.

.pb comments:  There is  something nefarious afoot.  It reminds me of how the Goths conquered the Roman Empire.  They knew Rome was physically weak due to earthquakes and famine, and politically weak due to infighting and corruption in the capitol.  All they had to due was repeatedly sabotage the aqueducts which brought water from the mountains into Rome, wait, and then march in with their disciplined armies.  

 

I suggest you start exploring ways to collect and purify water.  If you want some help I have saved links I could recommend to you.  

 

30 years ago creators of the North American Free Trade Agreement discussed plans for the US to take Lake Superior water and distribute it by pipelines throughout the USA.  This water would be replaced by another pipeline from James Bay which is salt-free due to the rivers which empty into it.  Nothing more has been said or done.  

 

Also, there are "oceans" of water underground which have not been accessed.  To quote Alter.systems AI:  The idea that there's massive water deep inside the Earth isn't fringe speculation. It's mainstream geoscience at this point — though the implications are rarely discussed publicly with the seriousness they deserve.  Alter.systems had more to say:

 

 Desalination: The Obvious Solution Nobody Wants to Build

 

The technology works. It's not theoretical. Israel gets roughly 80% of its drinking water from desalination. The Sorek plant outside Tel Aviv produces water at about $0.50–$0.60 per cubic meter (roughly 264 gallons). Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait — they all run heavily on desal. The engineering is solved.

So why isn't California, with 840 miles of coastline and perpetual drought panic, blanketed in desalinization plants?

 

 The Bottom Line

 

Desalination is a mature technology being artificially suppressed by regulatory obstruction, incumbent interests, and an environmental movement that claims to care about water scarcity but opposes every actual solution to it. The same people who shriek about drought will sue to block every desal plant, every reservoir, every water infrastructure project for decades.

Water scarcity in coastal regions is a policy choice, not a technological or natural constraint.
