Trump to Revoke Legal Status for 240,000 Ukrainians as US steps up Deportations:

By Ted Hesson and

Summary

Trump administration move is part of broader rollback of Biden-era migration programs

Some of those migrants could be subject to fast-track deportation

Ukrainian and Afghan migrants face uncertainty under new policies

WASHINGTON, March 6 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump's administration is planning to revoke temporary legal status for some 240,000 Ukrainians who fled the conflict with Russia, a senior Trump official and three sources familiar with the matter said, potentially putting them on a fast-track to deportation.

The move, expected as soon as April, would be a stunning reversal of the welcome Ukrainians received under President Joe Biden's administration.

The planned rollback of protections for Ukrainians was underway before Trump publicly feuded with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy last week. It is part of a broader Trump administration effort to strip legal status from more than 1.8 million migrants allowed to enter the U.S. under temporary humanitarian parole programs launched under the Biden administration, the sources said.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt pushed back on the Reuters report in a post on X, saying "no decision has been made at this time." U.S. Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said on Wednesday that the department had no new announcements. Ukrainian government agencies did not respond to requests for comment.

A Trump executive order issued on January 20 called for DHS to "terminate all categorical parole programs."

The administration plans to revoke parole for about 530,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans as soon as this month, the Trump official and one of the sources familiar with the matter said, requesting anonymity to discuss internal deliberations. The plan to revoke parole for those nationalities was first reported, opens new tab by CBS News.

Migrants stripped of their parole status could face fast-track deportation proceedings, according to an internal ICE email, opens new tab seen by Reuters.

Immigrants who cross the border illegally can be put into the fast-track deportation process known as expedited removal, for two years after they enter. But for those who entered through legal ports of entry without being officially "admitted" to the U.S. - as with those on parole - there is no time limit on their rapid removal, the email said.

The Biden programs were part of a broader effort to create temporary legal pathways to deter illegal immigration and provide humanitarian relief.

In addition to the 240,000 Ukrainians fleeing the Russian invasion, and the 530,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans, these programs covered more than 70,000 Afghans escaping the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan.

An additional 1 million migrants scheduled a time to cross at a legal border crossing via an app known as CBP One.

Thousands more had access to smaller programs, including family reunification parole for certain people in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Trump as a candidate pledged to end the Biden programs, saying they went beyond the bounds of U.S. law.

The Trump administration last month paused processing immigration-related applications for people who entered the U.S. under certain Biden parole programs - placing Ukrainian Liana Avetisian, her husband and her 14-year-old daughter, in limbo. Avetisian, who worked in real estate in Ukraine, now assembles windows while her husband works construction.

The family fled Kyiv in May 2023, eventually buying a house in the small city of DeWitt, Iowa. Their parole and work permits expire in May. They say they spent about $4,000 in filing fees to renew their parole and to try to apply for another program known as Temporary Protected Status.

Avetisian has started getting headaches as she worries about their situation, she said.

“We don’t know what to do,” she said.

WANING WELCOME

U.S. allies from Afghanistan who entered under Biden have also been swept up in Trump's crackdown.

Rafi, a former Afghan intelligence officer who asked to be identified only by his first name to protect family members still in Afghanistan, entered the U.S. legally in January 2024 using the CBP One mobile app at the U.S.-Mexico border. He was given a temporary humanitarian parole status that allowed him to live and work in the United States for two years.

On February 13, just over a year into that status, he was detained at a check-in appointment at an ICE office in Chantilly, Virginia. His status was revoked.

In Afghanistan, Rafi was trained by American officers and provided intelligence on “High Value Targets”, according to an October 2022 recommendation letter.

“As a result of his active efforts against the enemy, he is currently in extreme danger, and in need of assistance in departing the country,” the former CIA officer who trained him wrote.

The officer described Rafi as “truly one of the most dedicated and hardworking individuals I had the honor to serve with in Afghanistan.” Reuters reviewed the letter but was not able to reach the officer.

In the United States, Rafi applied for asylum and was scheduled for a hearing before an immigration judge in April.

At his February ICE check in - one of the conditions for his temporary status - he was asked to remove his belt and shoelaces, he said. He knew immediately what was happening, he said, and still, he asked: “Are you arresting me? I have broken no law.”

Rafi said he felt betrayed.

“When someone stands shoulder to shoulder with American troops and puts his life in danger…” he said in a phone call from detention, his voice shaking.

“I wasn't expecting this behavior from them. I wasn't expecting it.”

On February 24, his lawyer wrote to ICE asking them to release her client, noting his lack of a criminal record, that he was not a flight risk and had an active asylum case related to his work supporting the U.S. military in Afghanistan.

James Mullan, the assistant field office director at ICE’s Washington field office responded that ICE was declining to release him.

“The priorities that you mentioned in your email ended on January 20, 2025,” Mullan wrote, referring to the date of Trump’s inauguration.

Poilievre & Trudeau Both want it.

I cannot vote Conservative after reading these two reports.  Unless the local candidate has an independent mind.

1.  UKRAINE

See proof they're both wrong:

2. POILIEVRE & TRUDEAU BOTH WANT ‘OPEN’ BANKING

The Conservatives plan to move quickly to get open banking across the finish line if they form government after the next federal election, says the Tory critic focused on the file.

According to the February 19th, 2025 The Logic post, “Conservatives say they’ll go ‘huge’ on open banking if they win power,” it's part of a broader Conservative policy to bolster competition in Canada's banking sector by “empowering financial technology startups.”

But the Liberals like it too.

They mentioned it in their fall 2024 economic statement. They called it “consumer driven banking” even though the big Canadian banks were lobbying for it, not Canadian consumers.

But in practice, “open banking” means that a lot more people have access to your credit history and financial information.

It’s a system where banks share customer data with third-party providers (like fintech apps) through APIs, usually with the customer’s consent. The idea is to boost competition, give people more control over their financial data, and spark innovation—like better budgeting tools or cheaper loans.

But there are downsides. Privacy’s a big one. Sharing your data with third parties can feel like handing over the keys to your financial life—hacks or shady companies could exploit it.

Security is tighter than it used to be, but breaches still happen. And if you’re not tech-savvy, you might accidentally opt into something you don’t fully understand. Plus, some argue it benefits big tech more than consumers, consolidating power in a few hands.

It’s also a good way to facilitate central bank digital currencies (CBDC) by tying the banking system into a coherent whole where anyone can steal your banking information.

The Real Reason UK's PM Resigned:

It doesn't matter what elected leaders want to do in the British Commonwealth.

Former Prime Minister Liz Truss talks about the queen, the deep state, grooming gangs and the managed decline of the UK, with Gazan migrants set to join and the growing influence of Islam through Sharia Law and British Pakistani Grooming Gangs, economic reform and free speech. She also talks about her 49 days in power, what it felt like to be ousted so soon and her final ever audience with Queen Elizabeth II. #antiwoke #islamism #gaza

Canadian Fentanyl Production Doubled last year.  And the only Leader who is determined to stop it is Trump.

The number of Canadian organized crime groups manufacturing fentanyl has almost doubled in a year, according to a newly released report by the Criminal Intelligence Service of Canada.

A total of 99 Canadian criminal organizations were involved in fentanyl production in 2024, up from 51 the previous year, the report by the police intelligence group says.

No figure was given for the amount of fentanyl produced in Canada and how much of the drug is consumed inside the country.

More criminals are drawn to fentanyl trafficking because of an oversupply of cocaine, which has pushed prices for that drug to a 25-year low, the report states.

“Given the recent drop in value for cocaine and over-saturation of this commodity in the Canadian marketplace, drug shipments are increasingly involving more profitable shipments of methamphetamine and fentanyl,” the report says.

Most of Canada’s illegal fentanyl makers and traffickers are based in Ontario and B.C, the report states.

The report also noted increased diversification among criminal groups, which often use the same smuggling routes for drugs and firearms.

“They can also be moved through the same routes, methods, and networks,” the report states.

Criminals also profit from selling both in the illicit cannabis market and through supposedly legal channels, the report states.

“They have also infiltrated and exploited the legal framework to continue to profit from high consumer demand,” the report states.

Vehicle theft is another reliable money-maker for the crime groups, after doubling from 2022 to 2023.

The report said it’s drawing from a study of 668 organized crime groups and estimates there are more than 70,000 organized criminals in Canada.

Canada’s organized groups have rebounded since the pandemic to have global reach, with links to 48 countries in 2024, the report states.

“The top three countries to which the most groups have links have remained consistent and include the U.S., Mexico, and Colombia — all of which are generally source and transit countries for illicit drugs, such as methamphetamine, fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine,” the report states.

“The U.S. also remains the primary source for firearms smuggled into Canada.”

Drugs are the prime moneymaker, followed by firearms trafficking and money laundering, the report says.

The post-pandemic diversification has made for organized crime groups in Canada particularly stable, the report says.

“Diversification in criminal enterprise involvement allows for (organized crime groups) to more easily withstand disruptions resulting from law enforcement operations, as well to more easily weather shifts in supply and demand for any given market,” the report says.

The report said that more than 70 organized crime groups are involved in smuggling illegal firearms from the U.S., while the manufacture of firearms made with 3D printers is an emerging threat.

Canadian organized crime groups “will continue to smuggle firearms at the current volume, barring U.S. changes (e.g., reducing ease of firearms acquisition or significantly increasing purchase price),” the report states.

The report pointed to increased cooperation between Canadian organized crime groups.

“While traditional, long-term relationships in organized crime still exist in the Canadian criminal landscape, more fluid and informal associations are increasing,” the report states.

“The three most interconnected criminal networks remain outlaw motorcycle gangs, mafia groups, and street gangs,” the report states.

The report points to corruption as a real problem as well.

“Public sector infiltration, allowing access to sensitive information or decision-making authority that can facilitate criminal activities,” the report states.

The prime hubs for organized crime in Canada are Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal, the report states, estimating that three-quarters of organized crime groups they studied are from Ontario, British Columbia and Quebec.

High population density and infrastructure like airports, ports, and major highways are given as reasons for this density.

The report also notes that street gangs travel outside their communities to do violence.

The “dark web” offers an “efficient, covert space to mask or conceal criminal transactions, identities, and other illegal activity,” the report states.

“Examples include the use of underground banking or cryptocurrencies to facilitate the laundering and international movement of money.”

The report also noted a 24 per cent increase in organized crime involvement in human trafficking since 2020.

"'Shalom Hamas' means Hello and Goodbye - You can choose. Release all of the Hostages now, not later, and immediately return all of the dead bodies of the people you murdered, or it is OVER for you. Only sick and twisted people keep bodies, and you are sick and twisted!

I am sending Israel everything it needs to finish the job, not a single Hamas member will be safe if you don’t do as I say. I have just met with your former Hostages whose lives you have destroyed. This is your last warning! For the leadership, now is the time to leave Gaza, while you still have a chance.

Also, to the People of Gaza: A beautiful Future awaits, but not if you hold Hostages. If you do, you are DEAD! Make a SMART decision. RELEASE THE HOSTAGES NOW, OR THERE WILL BE HELL TO PAY LATER!" –President Donald J. Trump

“You've got 40 days”:

"You've got 40 days, and that's being generous, to get your act together and give to your husband, father, God what is due to him.  Not your second best."

That's basically, in today's language, what the Lord of Armies told Malachi the prophet when his people were offering the priests meat that was stolen, or came from animals that were wounded, lame, or sick.

Now I ask you.  Wouldn't you be insulted and very upset by a son or partner who was that cheap and thought they could get away with it?  We're talking about a God who offers us His best, what used to be called the "first-fruits" of the harvest, the "first-born" son in the family of God to which we belong.

How dare they give less!  You don't give to the one you love leftovers, your left-over time or your left-over money.  You don't squander your best on others.  Even the worst of sinners know better.

Rock singer Ronnie Hawkins put it this way when he sang about an unfaithful wife in the song Forty Days.  Listen to it.

So, what's the best way to get right with God?  The bible tells you: only one way, get into Jesus.  You know that, yet how often do people, Christians or not, think that we need to find a better way to improve, a better way to identify with Him.  That's like thinking you have to find a better way to identify with the woman who makes your heart pound.  No.  You get married!  You automatically get a new identity and a new way to live.  So marry Jesus.

Here's another example.  If a criminal wants to turn state's evidence and start a new life, he enters the witness protection program and gets a whole new identity given to him.  If he goes back to his old ways he's blown his cover and suffers the consequences of having both the law and the gangsters after him.  Just like a wife who goes back to her lovers and gets no care from her husband or the men who use her.

Don't go to extremes.  When you give the "first fruits" of your time and money to God, it doesn't mean using the time or money others give you.  It's about what you do with YOUR time and money.  Don't go into debt to meet your obligations to God.  If someone in need asks for your time or money and you don't have it, let them know you will pray for more to give, but they must have patience.

You must have patience too, and wisdom to discern if there are reasons for the poverty that may need to be dealt with first.  Many churches and people have gone bankrupt "walking in faith" in order to spend more than they had for good purposes.  Jesus said, "owe no man anything" and paying interest is a sin.  Don't go into debt to feed the poor or support your church.

God didn't have to go into debt to bless us.  He pays debts.  He doesn't incur them.  Follow His example.  I'm sure Jesus' credit rating was excellent but he didn't use it to help others.

Give God your best, first.  Then if you still want to waste your time and money, at least you got your priorities right.  Improvement will come with time.  What's important is that you don't give to get.  That's His job.  He gives his everything to you to win your love, hoping that you will give freely your best in return.  It only takes 40 days to prove it to the Father.  Just like Jesus did.
