CANADIAN:

Carney is rolling out a second wave of “nation-building projects,” academic and unmarked graves critic Frances Widdowson defied the Kamloops campus ban, and more.

Prime Minister Mark Carney is rolling out a second wave of “nation-building projects,” but a critical oil pipeline from Alberta has again been omitted.

An early leak of the projects the Liberals intend to fast-track did not include a proposed West Coast pipeline. This is despite Alberta Premier Danielle Smith pledging to seek U.S. investors if the federal government refuses to launch the project.

There is no oil pipeline among the six potential projects leaked to the media ahead of Carney’s official announcement in Prince Rupert, B.C.

Both CBC News and the Globe and Mail have been informed that the following projects will be announced tomorrow:


The Sisson Mine, the Nouveau Monde Graphite mine and Crawford Nickel all focus on critical minerals.


According to sources, at least one of the remaining two will be a transmission project.

Carney’s decision to hold the press conference in Prince Rupert has led to speculation that the Indigenous-proposed Ksi Lisims natural gas liquefaction facility and marine terminal project will be announced. Ottawa greenlit the project to move to the approval and permit phase in September.


That pipeline, part of the Prince Rupert Gas Transmission project, is a joint venture between the Nisga’a Nation and Texas-based Western LNG. It may lead to natural gas exports to a proposed floating LNG export terminal off B.C.’s North Coast.


Meanwhile, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith said she is “still working” with the Carney government to establish a memorandum of understanding for a bitumen pipeline from her province to the northwest B.C. coastline to facilitate growing Asian market demand.

She also said she has been working with the federal government on the “pathways project” and hopes to get some of the “nine bad laws” removed to “allow that investment to occur.”


The “nine bad laws,” Smith mentioned, refer to a list of federal policies that have kept Alberta’s energy sector stagnant, including the oil and gas emissions cap, net-zero electricity regulations, the West Coast tanker ban and the impact of Bill C-69.

“I hope to have more to say next week, before the Grey Cup,” Smith told reporters last week.


When last asked about whether Canada was going to get a pipeline while in Toronto on Friday, Carney dismissed the subject as “boring.”


The Carney government announced the first wave of projects in September, shortly after opening a Major Projects Office in Calgary with a mandate to “advance projects of national interest through the Building Canada Act.” The office is run by former TransMountain CEO Dawn Farrell.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, a key figure in the Trump administration, proudly highlighted these gains, noting Chicago’s fewest summer murders since 1965—a testament to the President’s unwavering commitment to law and order.


The impact of Trump’s federal surge extends beyond Chicago. In Washington, D.C., where federal law enforcement and National Guard troops were deployed, crime has dropped significantly, with homicides falling by 22 percent and robberies decreasing by 18 percent.


This has happened in just the past three months, according to White House data. 

In Los Angeles, the surge has led to a 27 percent reduction in shootings and a 15 percent drop in violent crimes since September, as reported by the Los Angeles Police Department. 


Memphis has seen a 30 percent decline in carjackings and a 12 percent decrease in homicides, while Portland has recorded a 25 percent drop in shootings, per local police statistics.


These gains underscore the administration’s nationwide strategy to combat crime through decisive federal action.

Despite continued efforts by Democrats such as Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, federal muscle brought by Operation Midway Blitz has turned the tide.

Researchers discover “kill switch” controlling rapid-response immune cells

A new study from researchers at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity (Doherty Institute) has uncovered a way the body controls a group of specialized immune cells called unconventional T cells, which are known for their rapid response to disease. 


The research, published in the Journal of Experimental Medicine, identified a built-in safety switch that regulates these cells and may prevent them from becoming too active, which could lead to harmful inflammation. This discovery could open new ways to treat a range of health conditions. 


A built-in "kill switch" for immune cells 

Unconventional T cells, which include mucosal-associated invariant T (MAIT) cells, gamma-delta T (γδT) cells and natural killer T (NKT) cells, are highly sensitive to NAD (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide), a molecule released when cells and tissues are damaged. When NAD is detected by a receptor called P2RX7 on these T cells, it promptly triggers a self-destruct mechanism. This acts as a built-in kill switch that prevents these powerful immune cells from becoming overactive, causing excessive inflammation, and even damaging bodily tissues.  


The University of Melbourne’s Dr Hui-Fern Koay, an ARC DECRA Fellow at the Doherty Institute and lead of the study, said the research highlights how the body keeps its prompt immune response in check. 


“Unconventional T cells are like the first responders of our immune system—they act fast, but like any rapid action, they need careful regulation,” said Dr Koay. 

“What we found is a negative feedback mechanism that should limit prolonged, unwanted immune responses.” 


Previously hidden immune-cell populations brought to light 

The sensitivity of these cells to NAD and tissue damage has made various T-cell subsets difficult to study in the past. Here, the researchers also discovered a previously overlooked group of unconventional T cells that co-produce two important molecules, interferon-gamma (IFN-g) and interleukin-4 (IL-4), that are key regulators of the immune response.  


These cells are normally lost during laboratory experiments because they self-destruct when exposed to NAD released following tissue damage associated with their isolation. By blocking the P2RX7 receptor, the team was able to preserve and gain new insights into these unchartered immune cell types. 


The University of Melbourne’s Dr Calvin Xu, Research Officer at the Doherty Institute and first author of the study, emphasised the impact of this discovery. 

“Finding these IFN-g and IL-4 dual-producing cells was a significant breakthrough,” said Dr Xu. 


“These cells could help us better understand the diversity of immune functions carried out by unconventional T cells.” 


Unlocking potential new avenues for treatment 

Unconventional T cells are abundant in organs like the liver, where they respond rapidly to signs of infection, inflammation or tissue damage. However, their high sensitivity to damage signals like NAD often leads to premature cell death, limiting their full potential in immune defense. 


Understanding the mechanisms that regulate these cells provides a new target for developing therapies that could either amplify immune responses in diseases like cancer or reduce excessive inflammation in conditions like chronic liver disease. 

By blocking access to the P2RX7 receptor, the researchers were able to improve the survival of these unconventional T cells, suggesting that this approach may offer a strategy for boosting their activity in a range of therapeutic settings.  


The University of Melbourne’s Professor Dale Godfrey, Laboratory Head at the Doherty Institute and co-senior author of the study, noted the potential of this discovery for new treatment strategies. 


“By targeting this regulatory pathway, we may be able to harness the power of these rapid-response cells to improve disease outcomes,” said Professor Godfrey.

In yet another sign of the rampant corruption in Ukraine, Ukrainian security forces raided the apartment of Timur Mindich, a businessman associated with President Volodymyr Zelensky. However, the oligarch had already left the country just hours before, likely after being tipped off by an insider.

Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) says that $100 million is believed to have been siphoned off due to a “money laundering operation,” and other associates were involved. The 15-month investigation featured 1,000 hours of wiretapping and resulted in 70 raids, according to NABU.Numerous reports are speculating that Mindich, who has close connections to Israel and just celebrated his birthday there, fled to Israel, but so far, most media reports do not disclose his destination country. In a statement, NABU indicated that several individuals had formed a criminal gang and built “a large-scale corruption scheme to influence strategic enterprises in the public sector, in particular Energoatom.”

 

The scheme involved forcing Energoatom’s counterparties to pay kickbacks of approximately 10 to 15 percent of contract values in order to avoid having payments for services or goods blocked, or possibly losing their status as suppliers, the bureau reported.

 

NABU indicated that the raids and arrests were a part of an operation code-named “Midas,” with the initial investigations already launched in 2024.

 

“Particular attention was paid to cryptocurrencies. Most operations, including cash withdrawals, took place outside Ukraine. For example, during foreign delegations of representatives of state bodies and the management of state-owned energy sector enterprises,” NABU notes.

 

Zelensky’s deep ties with a potential fugitive

In a sign that Ukraine’s love affair with Zelensky may be over, the Kyiv Independent is detailing how deeply entwined Zelensky is with Mindlich, writing:

Mindich, 46, is from the city of Dnipro in central Ukraine. He is a film producer and former business partner of Ukrainian oligarch Ihor Kolomoisky.

 

He reportedly has links to Israel. Mindich celebrated his birthday in Israel in September, returned to Ukraine in mid-October and then went to Israel again, according to Ukrainska Pravda’s sources.


Mindich is also a long-time friend of Zelensky, with whom he co-owned production company Kvartal 95 until Zelensky transferred his stake to partners after being elected president in 2019.


Mindich also co-owns Green Family Ltd, a Cypriot firm that co-founded film production companies in Russia, according to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL).

 

Kolomoisky told Ukrainska Pravda in 2022 that Mindich had introduced him to Zelensky before he became president. In 2019, Zelensky drove an armoured car provided by Mindich, RFE/RL reported.

 

Notably, Zelensky ran into serious hot water with the entire European Union when he attempted to eliminate NABU’s independence, which sparked outrage in Brussels. At the time, it sparked the first large-scale protests in the city since the war broke out. Zelensky was forced to backtrack, but the investigation into his associate may have played a vital role in Zelensky’s efforts to neuter NABU.

 

As part of the investigation, NABU and the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) released excerpts from audio recordings featuring conversations between individuals using the pseudonyms “Rakieta,” “Tenor,” and “Karlson.” They discussed investments in the energy sector, the distribution of bribes, and potential personnel changes within the Ministry of Energy and Enerhoatom itself.

 

According to reports from the website “Ukrainska Pravda,” the suspects include Mindich as well as Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko, whose home was also searched. He previously served as energy minister.


President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the matter in his evening address, emphasizing the need to hold those responsible accountable. “All effective measures against corruption are crucial. The certainty of punishment is essential. Enerhoatom currently provides the largest share of energy production in Ukraine. Cleanliness at this company is a priority,” Zelenskyy said.

 

Already, three in four Ukrainians believe Zelensky is at fault for corruption in the country. This latest case is sure to ramp up pressure on his regime, which refuses to hold elections.

Russia recognizes how embarrassing the raids on Zelensky’s associates are and how potentially dangerous they are for his continued rule.

Vladimir Rogov, chairman of the Commission of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, stated that “Mindich is one of Zelensky’s main wallets, but not the only one. Now there is a surge of panic and fear in Zelensky’s entourage. And troubled times are coming for Zelensky himself.”

 

He described “panic” inside Zelensky’s regime, and he said that his entourage is now accusing NABU of working with Russia.

“It will look doubly ridiculous. NABU is a purely American tool for controlling funds and combating Zelensky’s exorbitant thievish appetites,” Rogov said.

An investigation by the Brazilian environmental publication Sumaúma reports the state spent more than 18 million reais (approximately C$5 million) on large Fiberglass “trees” designed by artist Francisco Galeno.

 

The installations were placed along major roads and around the convention area as part of a beautification effort ahead of the United Nations climate conference.

At the same time, aerial and on-the-ground images published by Sumaúma show that real trees were removed in several locations to make way for infrastructure upgrades. In some cases, concrete was poured over newly cleared areas to install the decorative structures.


The publication called the installations “anti-ecological,” questioning the message sent by prioritizing aesthetics over natural preservation in a region heavily impacted by deforestation.


Belém, located in the Amazon basin, was chosen to host COP30 partly to highlight the importance of tropical forests in the fight against climate change.

On 15 Jan. 2025, the 1871 US Inc. Corporate veil shattered when President Trump signed Executive Orders that restored Constitutional Sovereignty to America.


That meant the Republic for the United States of America was now back functioning under concepts of the original Constitution, and the S***n Worshipping Illuminati foreign banker-owned District of Columbia US Inc. entity was set to be officially dissolved.


On 28 Feb. 2025, Trump signed Executive Order 6102, which reversed gold confiscation by the Deep State. National reserves were redistributed to back a reborn currency free from fiat chains in the new Restored Republic.
