Tens of thousands of Canadians died waiting for medical care in the past year: Report
A new report is raising alarm over growing wait-list deaths in Canada.
The report from public policy think tank SecondStreet.org revealed that at least 23,746 patients died in Canada while waiting for surgeries or diagnostic procedures between April 2024 and March 2025.
The figures are a three per cent increase from the previous year and push the total number of reported wait-list deaths since 2018 to more than 100,000.
The organization says the findings are based on freedom of information (FOI) requests submitted to more than 40 provincial and territorial health bodies.
The report warned that several jurisdictions provided only partial data, while Alberta and some parts of Manitoba provided none, meaning the true total is likely higher.
“It’s interesting that governments will regularly inspect restaurants and report publicly if there’s a minor problem such as a missing paper towel holder,” SecondStreet.org president Colin Craig said in a news release. “Meanwhile, no government reports publicly on patients dying on waiting lists. It’s quite hypocritical.”
Behind the numbers
Behind the statistics are the lives of Canadians like Debbie Fewster, a Manitoba mother of three who was told in July 2024 she needed heart surgery within three weeks, the report says.
Instead, she waited more than two months. She died on Thanksgiving Day.
Her death, like many others, became public only because her family spoke out, the report says.
Similar stories have emerged across the country: 19-year-old Laura Hillier and 16-year-old Finlay van der Werken of Ontario, who died while waiting for treatment; Alberta’s Jerry Dunham also passed away in 2020 while waiting for a pacemaker.
Widespread strain
Ontario recorded the highest number of wait-list deaths: 10,634, including more than 9,100 diagnostic-scan deaths where patients died before reaching the point of receiving or being scheduled for surgery.
Quebec was second with 6,290, while B.C. followed with 4,620. Smaller provinces also saw a number of deaths, including Nova Scotia (727), Newfoundland and Labrador (542), Saskatchewan (419), Prince Edward Island (178) and New Brunswick (121).
Manitoba reported 215 deaths, but that data is partial.
The report emphasizes that the bulk of wait-list deaths occurred among patients waiting for procedures that could have improved their quality of life, such as hip and knee surgeries, cataract operations and MRIs, but a significant subset involved potentially life-saving interventions, including heart surgeries and cancer treatments.
Ontario’s cardiac data alone showed 355 deaths among patients waiting for heart procedures. In at least 90 cases, patients waited beyond recommended timelines or more than 90 days.
The wait times associated with some recorded deaths ranged from under a week to nearly nine years.
The organization noted that even waiting for “non-lifesaving” procedures can become life-altering. Patients awaiting cataract surgery may lose functional vision, for example, while those waiting for joint replacement often live sedentary lives, increasing the risk of falls, blood clots or other complications.
The issue isn’t funding: report
At $244 billion, public health-care spending from 2024 to 2025 reached a historic high, the report said, with per-capita spending tripling to $5,943 from the mid-1990s. Canada also remains one of the world’s top health-care spenders.
But high spending has not translated into improved performance, the report said.
The brief cites research from the Fraser Institute showing Canada has fewer doctors, hospital beds and MRI machines per capita than many other universal health-care systems – and longer wait times.
Calls for reform
The brief outlines key policy options that provincial governments could adopt to reduce wait times and prevent further deaths.
One is tracking and disclosing wait-list deaths. A 2021 poll commissioned by SecondStreet.org found that 79 per cent of Canadians think governments should carefully track and disclose data on how long patients wait for care, how that compares to maximum recommended waiting periods, and what the eventual patient outcome is.
Another proposed policy change is adopting activity-based funding, where hospitals are paid based on the number of patients they treat rather than receiving large annual lump-sum budgets.
Other recommendations include partnering with private clinics at lower costs than hospitals, providing patients a mix of public and private options, and adopting an EU-style “Cross Border Directive” that would allow patients to seek treatment elsewhere, either within or outside Canada and be reimbursed up to the amount their provincial government would have spent.

Strong September Jobs Surge: US economy adds 119,000 positions
America’s job market just delivered a haymaker to the doubters with a robust 119,000 new positions added in September, according to the Department of Labour.
This blockbuster report, released last Thursday after a frustrating delay caused by a government shutdown, shows the U.S. economy under Donald Trump shattering economists’ timid prediction of just 50,000 new jobs, as Breitbart reports.
Let’s be real: while the progressive agenda often paints our economy as a crumbling mess, these numbers tell a different story – one of resilience and grit from American workers and businesses.
Consumer Sectors Lead the Charge
Drilling into the data, consumer-facing industries flexed their muscles, with bars and restaurants alone tacking on 37,000 jobs. Leisure and hospitality weren’t far behind, adding 47,000 positions, while healthcare bolstered payrolls by 43,000.
It’s a clear signal that American households are still spending and supporting local economies.
Retail trade chipped in with nearly 14,000 new roles, and wholesalers added over 9,000, proving that the backbone of our commerce isn’t buckling under pressure. Even construction, after a rough couple of months, bounced back with 19,000 new jobs, up 30,000 from last year.
Now, contrast that with the federal government shedding 3,000 jobs in September, down a whopping 97,000 since the year began. If that doesn’t scream for less bureaucratic bloat and more private-sector freedom, what does?
Wages Outpace Inflation, Barely
On the earnings front, there’s cautious optimism as average hourly wages ticked up 9 cents to $36.67, a modest 0.2% bump. Over the past year, wages have climbed 3.8 percent, staying ahead of the 3.0% inflation rate–a small but real win for workers’ wallets.
Even private-sector production and nonsupervisory employees saw a slight rise of $0.08 to $31.53, showing that gains aren’t just at the top. Still, with prices biting hard at the grocery store, these increments feel more like a Band-Aid than a cure.
Manufacturing, sadly, took a hit, losing 6,000 jobs in September with no net gain over the year, though durable goods makers eked out a 1,000-job increase over 12 months. It’s a reminder that our industrial base needs serious policy support, not more red tape or globalist trade deals.
Unemployment Ticks Up Despite Gains
Here’s the rub: despite the job surge, the unemployment rate crept up to 4.4% from 4.3%, as 219,000 more Americans were looking for work but couldn’t land a gig. On the flip side, the labour force participation rate rose, and 251,000 more folks reported having jobs.
It’s a mixed bag–more people jumping into the job hunt is good, but leaving so many empty-handed isn’t the American Dream we’re fighting for. Let’s hope policymakers prioritize real economic growth over social engineering experiments.
Adding to the frustration, the government shutdown delayed this report for weeks and might scuttle the October data altogether, with November’s report pushed to December 16. When will Washington stop playing games and let the numbers speak for themselves?
Revisions Paint a Bleaker Past
Looking backward, revisions to earlier data dampen the mood, with July’s job gains cut by 7,000 to 72,000 and August swinging from a small gain to a loss of 4,000 after a 26,000 downward tweak. Combined, those two months are 33,000 jobs lighter than first thought.
These adjustments remind us to take initial reports with a grain of salt, but they also underscore the volatility in an economy battered by overregulation and inconsistent leadership. America deserves better – clear policies that fuel growth, not revised disappointments.
Judge Dismisses 2020 Election Interference Case against Trump, granting Georgia's Request:
The Fulton County case produced Donald Trump's now-iconic mugshot
Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee issued an order dismissing the 2020 election interference case against President Donald Trump and his co-defendants after the state of Georgia had moved to drop the matter.
"The State having moved for an entry of nolle prosequi for all remaining defendants, the Court grants the motion," the order declares. "This case is hereby dismissed in its entirety."
Trump's lead Georgia defence counsel Steve Sadow described the case as "lawfare."

"The political persecution of President Trump by disqualified DA Fani Willis is finally over. This case should never have been brought. A fair and impartial prosecutor has put an end to this lawfare," Sadow said in the statement.
Peter J. Skandalakis, who took over prosecution after Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis was disqualified from handling it, filed a motion to dismiss the case earlier Wednesday in order to "serve the interests of justice and promote judicial finality."
"This entire case, from the initiation of the District Attorney’s investigation in 2021 to the present, is without precedent," noted Skandalakis. "In my professional judgment, the citizens of Georgia are not served by pursuing this case in full for another five to ten years."

The Georgia case yielded the iconic 2023 mugshot of then-candidate Trump.
"Never before, and hopefully never again, will our country face circumstances such as these. The case is now nearly five years removed from President Trump’s phone call with the Secretary of State, and two years have passed since the Grand Jury returned charges against the prospect that a President Trump and the eighteen other defendants," Skandalakis noted.
"There is no realistic sitting President who will be compelled to appear in Georgia to stand trial on the allegations in this indictment. Donald J. Trump’s current term as President of the United States of America does not expire until January 20, 2029; by that point, eight years will have elapsed since the phone call at issue."

The prosecutor explained why the other defendants in the criminal case would not be tried separately.
"Severing President Trump from the remaining defendants and conducting separate trials, while simultaneously waiting for the conclusion of his term and addressing all of the aforementioned legal issues, would be both illogical and unduly burdensome and costly for the State and for Fulton County,"
Skandalakis wrote. "The Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia lacks the resources to conduct multiple trials in this matter."

Dr. Humphries opened with what should have been a success story. She had her “dream job” as a nephrologist. But that changed in 2009, when a patient told her he’d been perfectly healthy—until he got the flu shot. She listened carefully and, unlike most doctors, took him seriously.
“I believed him,” she said. “Oh, that was mistake number one—to believe a patient who said they had a vaccine injury.”
Her decision to investigate triggered a cascade of backlash. She discovered multiple case studies linking vaccines to kidney failure. When she started pushing back against hospital vaccine protocols, things escalated fast.
“I became persona non grata,” she said. For simply filing orders to keep vaccines out of her patients’ bodies, she was tracked, monitored, and vilified.
What followed wasn’t just a career shift—it was an awakening.
When Maria pointed out that there seems to be no plan to stop the COVID shots—anywhere in the world—Dr. Humphries agreed. She confirmed that it’s not going away, then took the warning even further.
She said that COVID injections “integrate into our own genome” and leave people “genetically modified.”
Is this part of the transhumanist agenda? She didn’t make any definitive claim, but she didn’t dismiss it either. Instead, she issued a grim caution.
“The potential for evil to be perpetrated upon humanity is often far beyond our imaginations,” she said.
Humans don’t see it coming, she added, because “people are inherently good and they can’t even imagine the wild crazy stuff that these ghouls come up with and start doing to us until it’s too late.”
Dr. Humphries recalled the backlash she got—even from people on her own side—when she tried to investigate what’s really in the COVID shots.
“You mentioned the word graphene, and you will be dogpiled…”
She described what she personally saw under the microscope: geometric structures that looked eerily like “electronic circuit boards.” Her reaction was clear. “It’s not anything compatible with life,” she said.
Though she couldn’t verify the material, she pointed out one thing: “There’s a huge amount of carbon in there.”
And then she made a broader point—one that hit hard. She said the infiltration of the scientific world runs so deep, even the vaccine-skeptic community isn’t safe.
“Anybody could be a CIA asset at this point.”
She’s aware of how that sounds.
“You can end up sounding like a paranoid schizophrenic when you talk about this. But I’m not a lunatic.”

Then came the story no one saw coming.
Dr. Humphries detailed how the SV40 cancer-linked virus in polio vaccines connects to a CIA plot to assassinate Fidel Castro using weaponized cancer cells.
She said Dr. Alton Ochsner, a CIA-connected surgeon, worked with a teenage prodigy named Judith Baker to mutate cancer cells using particle accelerators. They planned to inject these rapidly growing cancers into Castro.
The person tasked with delivering the cells. “Lee Harvey Oswald,” she said. And he wasn’t just some confused loner. According to Humphries, he was a “high-IQ operative” who “was set up as the patsy” because he knew too much.
She laid out a chilling cover-up: CIA biolabs, monkey viruses, cancer research, and a long trail of bodies.
“Something like 160 people… all dead.”
SV40 came up again—but this time, in relation to Pfizer’s COVID shot for kids.
Dr. Humphries claimed that the pediatric version contains “twice the concentration” of the SV40 promoter compared to the adult formula. And with confusing dosage instructions and multi-cap colour codes, she warned that some children could be injected without proper dilution.
Even without the full genome, fragments of SV40 are dangerous, she said.
“Kevin [McKernan] has also shown that the promoter and enhancer of SV40… don’t need the full virus code to have significant DNA modulation,” she explained.
Those fragments interfere with P53, a crucial protein that literally deletes potentially cancerous cells.

Trump gives Ukraine a Deadline to sign onto the Peace Deal with Russia

This week, it was revealed that the Trump administration had created a 28-point peace plan for Russia and Ukraine.
The deal would require significant territorial concessions from Ukraine, something that is likely to spark resistance from the country's president, Volodymyr Zelensky.
Trump is putting Ukraine immediately on the clock, telling Zelensky that if he does not sign onto the deal soon, Ukraine will lose significant American support.
The Deal
Trump has put together a peace deal for Ukraine and Russia, but it will take some serious bending on the part of Ukraine for the agreement to work.
It more or less freezes the war as-is, which is not necessarily a good thing for Ukraine because it would call for numerous territories to be ceded to Russia.
For instance, Crimea, Luhansk, and Donetsk would be recognized as de facto Russian lands. Additionally, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia would see their boundaries frozen along the lines of contact.
After the full plan began to emerge, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt stated, “President Trump has made it very clear since day one, and even on the campaign trail, that he wants to see this war come to an end. He has grown increasingly frustrated with both sides of this war, Russia and Ukraine alike, for their refusal to commit to a peace agreement. Nevertheless, the president and his national security team are steadfast in seeing this war come to an end.”
You will lose
Trump warned Ukraine that if it does not take this deal now, it will continue to lose land at a rapid pace, more or less saying that this is as good a deal as Ukraine is going to get.
He stated, “They’re losing land. They’re losing land.”
Trump then added, “We’re in it for one thing. We want the killing to -- you know, they lost 25,000 people last month between the two countries, 25,000 people. It’s out of control. It’s a bloodbath.”
The choice for Zelensky is not an easy one to make, as he has long been adamant that he does not want to cede territory to Russia.
Deadline looming
Intense pressure is being applied, and Zelensky is not ignorant about the reality of the situation, stating that Ukraine is now facing a “very difficult choice, either losing its dignity or the risk of losing a key partner.” He continued, “Currently, the pressure on Ukraine is one of the hardest.”
That pressure was ramped up further when Trump appeared to put a clock on the deal, warning that aid and intelligence could be pulled from Ukraine, according to a Reuters report.
When Trump was asked about a deadline for acceptance of the offer, he stated, “Well, we have, you know, I’ve had a lot of deadlines, but if things are working well, you tend to extend the deadlines. But Thursday [Nov. 27] is, we think, an appropriate time.”
Trump knows that he needs this war to end, and if Ukraine has to give up land to make that happen, so be it. I am not sure how that will play out on a global scale or on Trump’s foreign policy approval rating, but I do know Americans are sick and tired of paying for this faraway conflict. I think Trump would likely take a hit for strongarming Ukraine, but in the end, I think the relief of the war coming to an end will outweigh the aftermath in which the United States would play a significant role in helping Ukraine rebuild.

Undercover videos on late-term abortion are causing chaos among Liberals, activists
The narrative that late-term abortions are never perpetrated on healthy, viable babies is now completely and publicly collapsing.

(LifeSiteNews) — Three undercover videos released this month by the political pro-life group RightNow have reignited the abortion debate in Canada—and triggered chaos amongst Liberal MPs and abortion activists.
Saturday’s edition of the National Post (NP) splashed the revelations across the front page, featuring a sonogram image of an unborn baby and the headline: “The Undiscussed Truth About Late-Term Abortions in Canada.” NP dedicated two full pages to the story, explicitly rebutting the oft-asserted claim of pro-abortion politicians that late-term abortions are not perpetrated on healthy, viable babies.
The report opens with the admission that a letter by former Liberal MP Dr. Carolyn Bennett, published in 2013, was inaccurate. Bennett had claimed that: “The assertion that late-term abortions can be performed ‘for any reason, or no reason at all,’ is just not true.” But as the NP noted: “In fact, there need not be a medical reason for later gestational age abortion in Canada, according to Abortion Care Canada, formerly the National Abortion Federation of Canada.”
In fact, the NP was careful to quote several prominent abortion activists—but despite their outrage at Alissa Golob’s investigation, they confirm her findings. TK Pritchard of Abortion Canada admitted to NP that “there does not have to be a medical concern that is named” to procure a late-term abortion, which is precisely the point Golob was making in her undercover videos. When Pritchard was asked directly whether there has to be a “fetal or maternal health risk,” she responded: “No.”
Frederique Chabot, executive director of Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights, insisted that the videos were “heavily edited, deceptive, heavily narrated.” She then went on to admit that: “In Canada, we have nothing that criminalizes abortion care at any point in the pregnancy. There is no criminal law that says, ‘At this random time, this is when abortion will not be provided.’” She could have just said: “Golob is right.”

In fact, the narrative that late-term abortions are never perpetrated on healthy, viable babies—something the pro-life movement has been saying for decades—is now completely, and publicly, collapsing. As the National Post noted:
Federal officials appear to have backed away from Bennett’s never without a medical reason assertion. The government’s website states that late-term abortions usually occur because of medical risks.

With no legal boundaries on abortion in Canada, there are also no legal restrictions on gestational age limits — how far along in the pregnancy is too far. Legally, a woman could have an abortion at any stage of pregnancy.
Golob’s undercover investigation has placed abortion activists and pro-abortion politicians in the awkward position of contradicting each other publicly. Liberal MP Dr. Doug Eyolfson responded to the NP’s report on X with the statement: “‘Late term abortion’ is a false flag. The only abortions that are performed late in a pregnancy are in emergencies (like septic pregnancy) where the fetus is not viable, and the mother and fetus would die if the procedure were not performed. The NP article is misinformation.”
In fact, if Eyolfson had actually read the article, he would have discovered that Canadian abortion activists have affirmed Golob’s central finding. He is either misinformed or lying. Incidentally, he was also accusing the abortion clinic workers who spoke to Golob of lying. His comment is interesting because it reveals that he is aware of how horrific the idea of aborting healthy late-term babies is to most Canadians, and thus, his instinct was to immediately deny that it is taking place.
What Eyolfson will not do is actually condemn this barbarism now that he is (surely) aware that it is, in fact, happening, as confirmed not only by Golob’s undercover videos, but by the abortion activists who spoke with the National Post. Instead, he pivoted to quibbling with the language being used—a sick but revealing Orwellian tactic that allows him to avoid addressing the fact that babies who could survive outside the womb are being killed in Canada. That is indisputable.

The chaotic, rage-fueled, deceitful response of abortion activists to Golob’s undercover investigation triggered a follow-up column by pro-choice NP columnist Chris Selley, who accurately described the meltdown:
The National Post’s weekend story about the realities of late-term abortions in Canada — namely that they’re available, although many OBGYNs won’t perform them; and that women needn’t provide any medical reason for requesting such a procedure — produced some very interesting responses. Many could be filed under S for ‘spittle-flecked denial.’
Golob’s investigation, he noted, should not have surprised anyone, and “it’s interesting that so many abortion-rights campaigners clearly think it’s so controversial that they want to disbelieve their ears and eyes.” He added: “If I didn’t know better, I would almost think those advocates aren’t entirely comfortable with the practice they’re defending.”
That is precisely it. The reason abortion activists are so desperate to keep the debate closed is that they are fully aware that to have the abortion debate would force them to defend the indefensible. This debate, reignited by this undercover investigation, must be pushed further. Politicians like Doug Eyolfson must be forced to reveal their ghoulish views to the Canadian public—and then defend them. They’ve gotten away with this for far too long.

This review breaks down the real problems we found when putting the Byrna SD launcher to practical use.

Church security teams reach out to me often, asking whether the Byrna SD is a good option for people who cannot carry a firearm. I hear from others who are already using it as their primary weapon. I held off on doing this review for nearly a year because most people on YouTube praise the Byrna, and I wanted to make sure my experience wasn’t an outlier. After running it through real testing, I can say with confidence that the Byrna SD is not something I can recommend as a primary defensive tool.
There is a place for it, but that place is limited. If a church or individual relies on the Byrna as their main line of defence, they may be putting themselves in a dangerous situation. What follows is my honest evaluation and the issues I encountered when I tested this launcher in conditions similar to what you may deal with during a real threat.
What You Get in the Box
The Byrna SD arrives in a solid case with all the expected accessories. Literature, membership cards, and a schematic sit on top. Under that, you’ll find pepper rounds, kinetic rounds, two magazines, and spare CO2 cartridges. The packaging looks clean and organized. The launcher itself feels like a well-made piece of equipment at first glance. It has a safety selector, a large muzzle opening for the rounds, and a removable plug that gives access to the CO2 canister.
The system works off stored CO2 pressure. When you pull the trigger, the launcher punctures the cartridge and begins sending rounds downrange. In theory, one CO2 canister should give you a little more than one magazine before the pressure drops.
This all sounds fine until you put it to real use.
How the Byrna SD Is Supposed to Function
The design is simple. You load the magazine, insert it, and pull the trigger to activate the CO2 cartridge. From there, each round should launch with enough force to deliver either kinetic pain or a burst of pepper powder. The launcher is not classified as a firearm under federal law, which attracts people who want a non-lethal option.
But simplicity does not make it reliable. And reliability is the entire point of defensive gear.
One early concern came when measuring the trigger pull. My scale only reads up to eight pounds, and the Byrna exceeded that. Realistically, it is probably around a ten-pound trigger. That heavy of a pull is difficult for new shooters and will cause accuracy problems when stress is high.
Another concern is the CO2 system. To replace the cartridge, you need the included Allen key. Nobody is going to have time to find a tool in the middle of an attack. And the launcher becomes weaker with every shot as pressure drops.
These issues alone raise questions. The testing confirmed those questions were valid.
The Real-World Test at Boise Krav Maga
To see what the launcher could actually do, we ran a controlled test at Boise Krav Maga. Several volunteers stepped up, including a biker guy who was more than willing to get shot for the sake of testing. The goal was simple. Could the Byrna deliver a meaningful deterrent effect on a calm, sober human being?
The answer was not encouraging.
The first shot was a pepper round. The ball hit him squarely. Instead of a cloud of powder filling the air, the powder dropped straight to the ground. No dispersion. No aerosol effect. No visible irritation. Nothing.
This was the first round out of a fresh launcher, using Byrna’s own ammunition, exactly as they send it to customers.
The volunteer told us he could feel the hit but that it did not hurt much at all. We asked if it would stop him from attacking someone. His answer was direct: “No. I’m still coming.”
For comparison, I have had firearms fail on the first round before, but it has only happened with poorly made weapons. The only other time I have seen a failure this immediately noticeable was with the High Point Yeet Cannon, and that malfunction was extreme. For a safety tool meant to protect people from violence, this level of failure is not acceptable. My question is simple… Is the Byrna the Yeet Cannon of less lethal?
We Tried Kinetic Rounds Too
Next, we tested the kinetic rounds. They produced a small bruise, but again, our volunteer said it would not slow him down. He wasn’t intoxicated, mentally unstable, or violent. He was simply standing still and taking the hits. In the real world, attackers are often impaired by drugs, driven by emotion, or entirely disconnected from pain.
If the launcher could not deter a calm and cooperative subject, it is unlikely to stop a determined one.
CO2 Limitations and Trigger Issues
Another problem surfaced as we continued firing. A single CO2 canister only provides slightly more than one magazine of full-power shots. After that, the launcher quickly loses force. The declining pressure means each round becomes less effective, creating another point of failure.
The heavy trigger was also noticeable. A ten-pound trigger pull is not ideal for accuracy, especially for people who do not train often. I shoot often and have no trouble hitting targets, but I am not the standard user. Most volunteers found the trigger stiff and awkward.
One Positive Finding
With all of this said, the launcher did show one strength. When measured with my Garmin chronograph, the velocity was consistent. The rounds did exit the launcher at stable speeds. The device was also intuitive for new shooters to pick up and fire.
But velocity means nothing if the pepper powder does not disperse, the kinetic rounds do not deter, and the system starts losing power after a magazine.

Where the Byrna SD Actually Fits
After speaking with a Byrna representative at SHOT Show, even he noted that the launcher should never be someone’s primary defensive tool. And on that point, I agree with him completely.
The launcher has a role in a layered defense plan. For example, in a crowd control scenario where I have a firearm and lethal cover from another team member, I could use the Byrna as an additional tool. If it fails, I still have reliable options behind it.
This is how I personally would use it. As a secondary option. As another tool in the bag. Never as my only tool.
What I Recommend Instead
Pepper Spray
This is still the best non-lethal option for most people. It works consistently, creates an aerosol cloud that stops threats, and requires minimal training. I have used it my entire career and never had it fail.
Taser
If the church’s policies allow it, the Taser offers a stronger incapacitation effect. It has its own limitations but is still far more reliable than a pepperball launcher.
Biblical Perspective: Discernment and the Tools We Trust
Christians are called to use discernment when we prepare to protect others. Scripture talks often about the need for wisdom, clarity, and sober judgment. Even though the Bible does not speak about modern defensive tools, it gives us a foundation for how we make decisions.
One passage that fits well here is Proverbs 14:15:
“The simple believe anything, but the prudent give thought to their steps.”
This verse is a reminder that we should not assume a tool works simply because it is marketed well or popular online. Prudence means testing, evaluating, and thinking through the consequences. That applies to doctrine, to relationships, and to the gear we rely on.
Another helpful passage is Ecclesiastes 10:10:
“If the axe is dull and its edge unsharpened, more strength is needed, but skill will bring success.”
This speaks to preparation. It is not only about having a tool, but about having one that actually works. A dull axe forces a person to work harder, making the job more dangerous and less effective. A tool that fails or performs inconsistently puts the person at risk.
That is exactly the point of evaluating something like the Byrna launcher. A tool that looks good but fails under pressure is the modern version of an unsharpened axe. It adds risk instead of reducing it.
A final passage to consider is Philippians 1:9–10:
“And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may discern what is best…”
Discernment is tied to love. We make wise choices because we love the people God has entrusted to us. Whether that is our family, our congregation, or our community, our decisions should reflect thoughtful care. Choosing reliable tools, training well, and understanding limitations is part of that loving responsibility.
This is a good reminder that preparation is not fear-based. It is love-based. Love for the people we protect. Love for the ministry God gave us. Love for the truth that calls us to act wisely rather than impulsively.
When we seek wisdom, test what we use, and stay grounded in Scripture, we are better equipped to walk faithfully in every area of life, including the practical ones.
Final Thoughts for Church Security Teams
Your choice of defensive tools should always be based on reliability. Gear that fails at the wrong moment puts your congregation at risk. The Byrna SD may look good on the surface, and the marketing videos may show dramatic reactions, but the results we saw did not match the claims.
If you want to add a Byrna launcher to your toolkit as a backup, that is fine. But I cannot recommend it as a prima
ry self-defence tool for any church setting. There are far better options available that won’t leave your team vulnerable when it matters most.
Pray for your congregation, your team, and your preparation. Train in ways that reflect the responsibility God has given you. And choose tools that will stand up to the moment when everything is on the line.

The Mark of the Beast
The number of the beast has been an enigma since the Book of Revelation was written. Many interpret the mark as a high-tech device implanted into or onto the right hand or forehead. This scenario remains possible. However, could there be an alternative explanation? The following analysis is only presented as a hypothesis, which requires further research.
The Book of Revelation 13:16-18 states:
And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count (decide, reckon) the number (indefinite number, multitude) of the beast: for it is the number of a man, and his number (Chi Xi Stigma) is six hundred threescore and six.
The alternate possible word translations from the Greek are enclosed within parentheses in the verses above. The word “mark” is translated from the Greek charagma (Strong’s Greek concordance reference #5480) as “a scratch or etching, ie stamp (as a badge of servitude), or sculptured figure (statue): graven image.” In the Roman context, charagma was the imperial stamp that was placed on official documents. It was also a “badge of servitude” etched, inscribed or branded on slaves to designate ownership. Soldiers often branded themselves with the name of their favourite general, and religious cult devotees placed tattoos of their favourite gods as symbolic of their devotion and allegiance.[29]

Interestingly, Islamic Jihadists and devotees of Islam often wear headbands on their foreheads and patches on their right arms with a mark of submission (the bismillah – Islamic creed of “in the name of Allah”) followed by two crossed swords, etched or inscribed on the material. The “Chi Xi Stigma” has been an enigma to the church, and some have reckoned it as a symbol rather than a number. This mark (Chi Xi Stigma) has an uncanny resemblance to the bismillah, combined with the universal Islamic symbol of crossed swords.

The Greek text translates forehead and hand into the plural form due to the word, “their” in the sentence construction; yet, it refers to the singular form of forehead and hand regarding the individual. The significance of the right hand or arm and forehead in the Islamic context derives from their traditions. Walid Shoebat comments on this fact:
Amazingly, and in keeping perfectly with what the Bible predicted so long ago regarding the beast and his mark, the badge is in fact an Islamic commandment from the prophet himself: “Allah will save a man from my nation above all creation on Judgment Day. In front of him will be laid 99 registers for his sins. Every register is as long as the eye can see. Then he is asked, ‘Do you deny any of these?’ Then he says, ‘No Lord.’ Then he is asked, ‘Do you have any excuse?’ He responds, ‘No Lord.’ Then he is told, ‘You have but one good deed and there will be no condemnation for you today.’ A badge is brought forth. Scrolled across it are the words: ‘No God but Allah, and Muhammad is his messenger.’ Then he is asked to bring forth his deeds. He asks, ‘O Lord, what is this badge that is with these registers?’ He is told, ‘You will receive no condemnation.’ The deeds are put on one hand, and the badge in the other. Then the registers will float, and the badge will outweigh the registers” (Tirmuthi 2639).[30]
Shoebat sums it up:
The “Name of the Beast,” along with variations of the name of Allah, is worn as a sign of submission on the right arm or forehead. Islam is submission and allegiance to a foreign god; the Shahadatan is blasphemous, the badge worn by Muslims on the forehead—all of these things meet the Biblical requirements of the Mark of the Beast.[31]
The “Shahadatan” is the Islamic creed or article/declaration of faith. It is an Arabic phrase, “La ilaha il Allah, Muhammad Raul-Allah which literally means, “There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is the One sent by Allah (The Messenger of Allah).” This creed fits the definition of blasphemy on both counts: First, it claims another foreign god besides Yahveh as the only true God; second, it places Muhammad to the prominent position that only Jesus can fulfill.[32]
Interestingly, Islamic tradition points to Mecca as the origin of the “Beast” system. Shoebat quotes two Islamic hadiths:
“The Beast will come out from Al-Masjid Al-Haraam in Makkah (Mecca).” “The Prophet (Muhammad) took me to a place in the desert, near Makkah (Mecca). It was a dry piece of land surrounded by sand. The Prophet (Muhammad) said, ‘The Beast will emerge from this place.’ It was a very small area.”[33]
Likewise, in the Bible, the angel took John into the desert to see the “Woman” or “Whore of Babylon” riding a beast, likely coming out of the desert of Arabia. There are numerous biblical passages which equate the “Whore of Babylon” geographically within Arabia, which was part of the ancient Babylonian Empire.
In addition, for those interested in extra-biblical prophecy, Nostradamus also predicted that the Antichrist would come out of Arabia. A scenario where an Islamic leader (Mahdi) comes out of Arabia and sets himself up as ruler over Turkey and an Islamic Confederacy is quite possible. Or, this could imply the Antichrist would adhere to the Islamic “Beast” system originating in Arabia. This hypothesis is presented to inspire further research and investigation into this important element of eschatological study.
Significance of the “Right Hand”
Further parallels between Islam and the “Mark of the Beast” are evidenced by Muhammad’s obsession with the right hand or right side.
The obsession with the right side was dominant in a myriad of pagan customs. While entering a mosque, one had to begin with the right foot. “The prophet used to start everything from the right (for good things) whenever it was possible in all his affairs, for example, in washing, combing, or wearing shoes.”[48]
An account of one of Muhammad’s meals was illustrative of his obsession: “Milk mixed with water was brought to Allah’s apostle while a bedouin was on his right side and Abu Bakr was on his left. He drank (of it) and then gave (it) to the Bedouin and said: The right, the right (first).”[49] Another account stated: “So Allah’s apostle said to me: O boy! Mention the name of Allah and eat with your right hand.”[50] Likewise, any bathroom duties could not be done with the right hand.[51]
If a Muslim was caught stealing, his right hand was cut off from his arm as dictated by Islamic law. By having the right hand cut off, the Muslim was degraded. The rigid Islamic law required one to eat and do most of one’s daily activities, as prescribed by Muhammad, with the right hand. The individual would thus become a social outcast from the Islamic community.
Muhammad had a fanatical and rigid custom of doing everything with the right hand and commanded his followers to do likewise. This strict adherence to Muhammad’s injunctions and habits continues into the present.
A friend of mine related an anecdotal account from his experience as an English teacher in Saudi Arabia. The first day of his arrival he reported to the personnel officer. He was an older man with a beard signifying his religious devotion. The officer held out his right hand while my friend attempted to hand his documents from his left hand. There was an awkward standoff for several seconds until my friend’s immediate boss leaned over and whispered, “right hand.” Once the papers were offered from the right hand they were accepted. In light of this tradition, one may deem this as another significant parallel between Islam and the “Mark of the Beast” on the right hand. Currently, Islamic devotees wear a mark of the bismillah or Islamic creed on their right arms; but in the future this may be easily changed to the right hand.
Standard Practice of Beheadings
One of the most glaring similarities between the Antichrist and the Mahdi involves the preferred method of killing. The Islamic mullahs teach that in the end times, there will not be an option for subjects to live as dhimmis; thus, one must join the Islamic community of believers by submission to Allah or die (beheaded). If one chooses to submit to Allah, they are permitted to buy and sell as fellow believers in the worldwide Caliphate Empire. This scenario has biblical parallels:
. . . and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years (Rev. 20:4).
In addition, the Antichrist Empire will believe the following: “The time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service” (Jn. 16:2).

The entire history of Islam, since the seventh century, has incorporated mass beheadings as standard procedure. Muhammad himself took part in the beheadings of between six and nine hundred men of the Jewish tribe Banu Qurayza. Soon after this massacre, he ordered the beheadings of another 400 Jews. Ibn Ishaq cites the event:
Abu Ubayda told me on the authority of Abu Amr, the Medinan, when the apostle got the better of the B. Qurayza, he seized about four hundred men from the Jews who had been allies of Aus against Khazraj, and ordered that they should be beheaded.[12]
Muhammad set the pattern for Muslims to follow, “Ye have indeed in the Messenger of Allah an excellent example” (Qur’an 33:21). Indeed, all the following generations of Caliphs and Islamic leaders continued Muhammad’s preferred method to kill by beheading. Even in the modern era of the 1980s, Afghan Jihad warriors beheaded an estimated 3000 soviet troops.[13] The Saudi Arabian government continues to decapitate anyone for criminal offences of the kingdom, such as witchcraft, apostasy, drug dealing, homosexuality, etc. Shoebat analyzes the phenomenon:
No other world empire practiced beheading like Islam. The Roman Empire’s primary method of execution of non-citizens was crucifixion, while the Catholic Church was drowning or burning. Only Islam has such a long-standing historical tradition of beheading, even having specific commandments in its “holy book” to “strike off their necks” (Qur’an 47:4).[14]
One may recall incidents of al-Qaeda displaying disturbing video feeds of live beheadings. Once the Islamic Caliphate becomes official, under the leadership of the Mahdi, mass beheadings will commence worldwide for all who refuse to receive his mark or bow to his image.
Again, Islam fits the theme of beheading those who do not submit to Islam or the Mahdi/Antichrist or (worship/bow/submit) to his image (Crescent Moon or the Black Stone of Mecca). The Black Stone is an idol or image in the historical, archaeological, and theological definition. All Muslims are required to bow to the Black Stone of Mecca in their daily prayers.
