Government sources say that assisted suicide won't be extended to cover cases of mental illness before the next election.
Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre said that a government led by him would not expand assisted-suicide to those with mental illness, and if the Liberals passed such a bill before he became Prime Minister, a government led by him would repeal that legislation.

Bone-chilling moment Arizona man, with 'history of violence,' appears to try to kidnap 5th-grade girl walking to school:
Video captured the shocking moment that an Arizona man – who allegedly has a "history of violence" – appeared to try to kidnap a 5th-grade girl in broad daylight as she was walking to school.
On Friday morning, a 5th-grade student was walking to Sunset Elementary School in Glendale, Arizona.
A local resident's security camera caught a silver sedan making a quick turn in the middle of the road and pulled over near where the girl was walking on the sidewalk. The video shows the driver park, exit the vehicle, and chase after the young girl.
Thankfully, the 5th-grader was able to outrun the suspected kidnapper.
The man calmly walked back to his vehicle.
After the girl was able to escape the suspected kidnapping, three fellow students huddled around her to provide comfort, according to neighbors.
"They hid her because the man was chasing her," Amcy Borquez told Arizona's Family.
"I think they were very brave for their age," Borquez added. "I’m telling them all day, like you’re heroes."
After reviewing the security camera video, police arrested 37-year-old Joseph Ruiz hours after the alleged kidnapping.
Ruiz was charged with kidnapping and custodial interference felony charges.
Ruiz reportedly has a "history of violence," according to authorities.
"I would note that he has a history of violence. He was convicted of an aggravated assault, a class 3 dangerous felony, after having stabbed his mother in the neck," said the state's attorney in Ruiz’s court appearance.
Nayelia Martinez – a neighbor living near the alleged abduction who has a son attending the same school as the victim – exclaimed, "Oh my god. It gave me goosebumps."
Sunset Elementary School sent a letter to parents discussing the alleged kidnapping, and said the victim noticed the suspect follow her from the time she left her apartment.
Data from 2019 shows that Arizona has the second-most missing people per 100,000 citizens, according to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System – a national centralized repository and resource center for missing, unidentified, and unclaimed person cases across the United States. Only Alaska had a higher rate of missing people.

When Lake asked what these “powerful people” wanted her to do, DeWit replied, “They want you to stay out for two years.”
DeWit also claimed that there were companies that would “just put her on the payroll to keep her out.”
He stated, “Just say, is there a number at which…” before he was cut off.
Lake, offended, lashed out saying, “I can be bought? That’s what it’s about.”
She continued and claimed that taking the bribe would be “immoral” and that she wouldn’t be able to look at herself the same “in the mirror.”
DeWit was already confirmed to be the other speaker in the audio by multiple sources, however, a number of people had been pushing back to protect him.
Multiple media outlets also wrote reports with false and misleading headlines in order to cover up for DeWit.
The reality is chilling.
We are in a time where politicians are “buying” each other, corruption is rampant, and bribes are everywhere.
How are the American people supposed to trust our elected officials when things like this continue to surface?
Americans must wake up and understand that politics are far more dangerous and corrupt than the media tries to let on.
We are living in a time where it is critical that we elect strong leaders who will be honest with us and will put the needs of the people and the nation first.

BC Homeless get Skills Training:
Operated by the John Howard Society of Okanagan and Kootenay, a non-profit organization, the tiny homes will come with daily meals, skills training and assistance in securing more permanent housing.
Unlike London which provides free drugs and daily meal service to homeless tents.
In collaboration with the province, Kelowna has built 60 single-room tiny homes, each spanning 60 square feet, along the 700 block of Crowley Ave. in the north end.
The pilot project will assess how effective tiny homes could be as a response to the growing homeless population in British Columbia.
According to Mayor Tom Dyas, the city will work with local residents to address concerns about the village being erected near residential homes.
“We’re now meeting with the team that has been structured here … on a quarterly basis,” he said.
“Recognizing that there are concerns in the neighbourhood, we want to do everything we can to address those concerns.”
Operated by the John Howard Society of Okanagan and Kootenay, a non-profit organization, the tiny homes will come with daily meals, skills training and assistance in securing more permanent housing.
The selection process for residents will prioritize those currently living in shelters or encampments, with the goal of reducing the number of individuals forced to sleep outdoors. The village is slated to be ready for occupancy in early February.
In addition to the current initiative, the province has disclosed plans to construct an additional 60 modular units at a second site on Highway 97 North. Kelowna faces a growing challenge of homelessness, ranking among the Interior’s areas with the highest homelessness rates.

DHS Sec Mayorkas Finally Pays HUGE Price…:
On Sunday, two articles of impeachment were lodged against Alejandro Mayorkas, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. House Republicans pledge to promptly dismiss the Cabinet member due to his ineptitude in managing the ongoing border situation.
Republicans accuse Mayorkas of “high crimes and misdemeanors” including a “willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law” on immigration, as well as a “breach of public trust.” They argue that impeachment is “Congress’s only viable option.”
“Alejandro N. Mayorkas willfully and systemically refused to comply with the immigration laws, failed to control the border to the detriment of national security, compromised public safety, and violated the rule of law and separation of powers in the Constitution, to the manifest injury of the people of the United States,” the impeachment resolution says.
As per the initial article of impeachment, Mayorkas made the decision to not enforce the law, which specifies that individuals seeking asylum who illegally cross the border must be held in custody until their status is determined. The release of such individuals into the interior of the United States is only allowed on a case-by-case basis.
Last month, Mayorkas stated that 85% of individuals who unlawfully enter the United States are being released to await judicial decisions. In addition to a previously established program, which allows 30,000 asylum applicants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela to enter the US through designated ports of entry while their cases are being resolved, this amount is being provided.
The second article of impeachment accuses Mayorkas of perjury before Congress on the border’s “security” and of noncompliance with requests for documents.
If Mayorkas, who previously served in prominent positions within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) during Barack Obama’s presidency, is impeached by the House, he may be subjected to a Senate trial. This would draw significant attention to the border debate, particularly given that it is an election year.
The House Homeland Security Committee is scheduled to vote on the articles of impeachment on Tuesday, with the objective of transmitting them to the entire House for deliberation. Representative Mike Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana, has stated that the House will vote as soon as possible following that.
Passage requires only a majority in the House. The Senate would initiate a trial, and securing a conviction would require a two-thirds majority, a highly unlikely outcome given the Democratic-controlled Senate.
Nevertheless, the potential impeachment of DHS Secretary Mayorkas may provide a significant challenge for Democratic Senate candidates engaged in closely contested races, especially in states along the border.

The poll shows that Hispanics in the state of New Mexico are increasingly becoming disgruntled with Biden.
According to the survey, 63% of Hispanics in the state disapprove of Joe Biden.
51% strongly disapprove and just 36% approve of the president.
President Biden carried the state of New Mexico by 10 points in the 2020 presidential election.
He won 61% of the Hispanic vote during that election. Donald Trump won just 38%.
In New Mexico currently, Biden only has a 41% approval rating overall.
57% disapprove of the president’s performance.
“Politically, New Mexico may be a small state, but these results spell big trouble for Joe Biden.” Larry Behrens, the communications director of Power the Future, said to The Daily Wire.
“The biggest issues on the minds of voters are the economy and crime, so it’s clear Joe Biden’s failures are the driving force behind why his numbers are taking a dive.”
Of the 500 people surveyed by the poll, 24% believe the economy is a top issues, while 23% believe it’s crime.
Half of the registered likely voters would rate the economy as “poor,” and 33% rate it as “only fair.”
“Families in New Mexico are just like families across the rest of the country, they are paying higher prices for everything so it’s no surprise they’ve decided Joe Biden needs to pay a political price too,” Behrens noted.
If Biden continues to do poorly among Hispanic voters, not just in New Mexico but around the country, he could very well lose the general election in November.
He better figure out something quick, or his time in the Oval Office will be short.

Alberta’s Minister of Municipal Affairs, Ric McIver, will investigate whether municipal single-use item bylaws in Edmonton and Calgary violate the Municipal Government Act, announced Premier Danielle Smith on Thursday.
Calgary passed a single-use item bylaw in mid-January, requiring businesses to provide cutlery, condiments, and shopping bags only by request. Paper and reusable bags are each accompanied by a fee.
Edmonton’s single-use item bylaw has been in place since last year, but councillors moved to increase the fees for paper and reusable bags last week, which is set to come in effect by July 1. Edmonton’s bylaw has banned plastic bags from stores, but paper bags can be sold for 15 cents, and reusable bags cost $1.
By July 1, Edmonton’s charge for paper bags goes from 15 cents to 25 cents. The charge for a reusable bag will double, from $1 to $2.
Edmonton’s bylaw aims to reduce waste by targeting items that can be easily avoided or replaced with reusable options, according to the city’s website.
“The goal is to reduce single-use items, not to switch from plastic items to non-plastic items,” reads the website.
Edmonton city staff admitted that they do not have data to show whether the fee is serving its purpose of cutting back on waste in a committee meeting earlier this week, according to Global News.
Speaking at an unrelated conference on Thursday, Smith was asked about the bylaws in light of the Federal Court ruling which found the federal single-use plastics ban to be unreasonable and unconstitutional.
“I heard there was near-mutiny on wing night in some restaurants because you have to ask whether or not people want napkins. I mean, some things are just so obvious that you need napkins when it’s wing night,” said Smith.
Despite starting off her response with a humorous touch, Smith clarified that she does not support the single-use item bylaws.
“I’m not supportive of the decisions in both Calgary and Edmonton, but I’ve put it to my Minister of Municipal Affairs to see if they’ve gone outside the realm of the MGA,” she said. “I think there’s a little bit of ideology getting ahead of common sense here.”
Edmonton Mayor Amarjeet Sohi said he is confident that the city’s bylaw is in accordance with its authority under the Act.
“The MGA authorizes the city to pass bylaws for environmental purposes and to regulate businesses,” he said in a statement to Global News.
Josh Dehaas, counsel for the Canadian Constitution Foundation (CCF), said that he understands people’s frustration with these bylaws, having himself recently sat at Edmonton’s Swiss Chalet. He said he was dumbfounded when he wasn’t given cutlery with his quarter chicken dinner.
Dehaas said he’s no expert in Alberta’s Municipal Government Act, so he doesn’t know whether either city followed the correct procedures. However, he said that even if the bylaws were properly enacted, the Alberta legislature could change the law to take away the power of municipal councillors to pass these kinds of bylaws.
“That’s because provinces have exclusive jurisdiction over municipalities granted to them under section 92(8) of the Constitution Act, 1867,” said Dehaas. “As was reiterated by the Supreme Court of Canada’s 2021 decision that confirmed the constitutionality of Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s cuts to the size of Toronto city council, municipalities are ‘creatures of provincial statute’ and provinces have ‘absolute and unfettered legal power to do with them as [they] will.’”
