The amount you give is not important compared to the motivation of your heart. In Luke 21, we read about how Jesus was blessed by watching a poor widow sacrificially give two small coins into the Temple treasury. He said that she actually gave more than the rich people who were simply giving out of their abundance. That tells me it’s how you give that matters to the Lord more than what you give.

So please only give if your heart is in it and you long to see people experience the hope, healing, and freedom that comes from the truth of God’s Word and a relationship with Jesus.

I pray that God blesses you through the ministry of Real Life. Thanks for all you do as part of this family.

Morning Update:

RCMP investigate Chinese interference in Canada:

The RCMP is investigating broad foreign interference by China in Canadian affairs, says Commissioner Brenda Lucki, but she declined to detail precisely what type of activities are being probed by the federal police force.

In a letter sent on Monday to a House of Commons committee studying possible Beijing interference in the 2019 general election, Commissioner Lucki said Mounties lacked evidence of wrongdoing in that vote, but they are looking at wider interference by China, including “interference in democratic processes” in Canada.

Canadian officials have stepped up accusations that Beijing has been interfering in this country’s domestic affairs as well as those of other countries.

HSBC agrees to sell its business in Canada to RBC for $13.5-Billion

In the largest deal ever reached between two domestic banks in the country, Royal Bank of Canada is buying HSBC Bank Canada for $13.5-billion in cash.

HSBC Canada has $134-billion of assets as of Sep. 30, with about 130 branches and 4,200 full-time staff. The transaction, which is subject to regulatory and government approvals, would see RBC consolidate its position as Canada’s largest bank. The deal is expected to close in late 2023.

All six of Canada’s largest banks looked at acquiring HSBC Canada, but the bidding process soon narrowed down to a competition amongst Canada’s largest lenders.

In a news release, RBC said HSBC Canada has about 2 per cent of Canadian deposits and mortgages.

Justin Trudeau is not telling the truth:

On Friday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took the stand at the Emergencies Act inquiry. Trudeau was the final witness to testify in the 4-week long process, which resulted in the total unravellingof the government’s narrative surrounding the invocation of the never-before-used Emergencies Act.

Trudeau testified that he never insulted the unvaccinated. If you put aside calling the unvaccinated “racists” and “misogynists,” well then maybe he didn’t insult the unvaccinated. We will leave that up to you to decide.

He also said to the Commission that the Emergencies Act did not suspendprotesters’ fundamental rights and freedoms, and that he wished he had done more to convince Canadians to get vaccinated.

NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg is in Berlin today speaking with German leaders, including Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht. On Thursday, Stoltenberg is set to keynote the Berlin Security Conference, which began today and features Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Wereschtschuk, the Pentagon's Celeste Wallander, and Defense Minister Lambrecht.

We have new, detailed "testimony" of the first five months of the invasion via a new report from Mykhaylo Zabrodskyi, Jack Watling, Oleksandr Danylyuk, and Nick Reynolds of the UK's Royal United Services Institute. Their goal, they write, is to make public "key lessons" for the Ukrainians and their allies like the Brits "based on the operational data accumulated by the Ukrainian General Staff, from the fighting between February and July 2022."

Among their findings: "There is no sanctuary in modern warfare," the authors write. "Survivability depends on dispersing ammunition stocks, command and control [units], maintenance areas, and aircraft." We can thank the long reach of missiles—both precision-guided and "dumb"—for that reality.

There's some myth-busting in this report, too, including this clarifier: "Despite the prominence of anti-tank guided weapons in the public narrative, Ukraine blunted Russia's attempt to seize Kyiv using massed fires from two artillery brigades." Another possible surprise: "90% of [aerial drone systems] employed are lost" to countermeasures and counter-drone guns in the hands of both Russian and Ukrainian forces. The especially careful view from Estonia: "All NATO allies are aware that the beast [that is, Russia's military] also wants to take control of the Western Balkans; and we need by practical, deliverable support to help these countries to survive," Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu told Reuters, reporting Wednesday from the last day of a NATO meeting in Bucharest.

That's partly why NATO allies agreed to assist Moldova, Georgia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina however the alliance can help. "If there is one lesson from Ukraine, it is that we need to support them now," Stoltenberg told reporters Wednesday in Romania. "They are affected from Russian influence in different ways," he said, "but better to support them now rather than see developments that go absolutely in the wrong direction as we saw with the invasion of Ukraine earlier this year." However, it appears to be too soon to know exactly how the alliance intends to help those three nations—each with breakaway regions or Russian-speaking populations openly supported by Moscow; but the European Union has scheduled a meeting next week in the capital of Albania to discuss the Western Balkans.

Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin rang his Polish counterpart Tuesday to discuss "the current security situation along NATO's Eastern Flank," according to the Defense Department's terse readout of that call with Warsaw's Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak.

New: SecDef Austin just welcomed his French counterpart, Sebastien Lecornu, to the Pentagon Wednesday morning at about 8:30 a.m. ET. Lecornu is in town as part of a nearly three-day official state visit to the White House by French President Emmanuel Macron—the first state visit hosted by U.S. President Joe Biden since taking office almost two years ago.

For Biden-Macron, "I would expect discussions about Ukraine will be front and center to their conversations, as it has been through so many of the meetings and phone calls that they have had over the last year," senior White House officials told reporters in a preview Tuesday. But Ukraine is not all. "Expect that they will also be discussing the challenges posed by China, as well as other challenges in Iran, in the Middle East, and the Sahel," the official said.

New: Russia's former leader Dmitri Medvedev warned NATO and the U.S. against sending Patriot missile defense systems to Ukraine, saying on Telegram on Tuesday that "they would immediately become a legitimate target of our armed forces."

Worth noting: As a Kremlin messenger, Medvedev's public rhetoric has consistently been colorful (to put it nicely) and bellicose since the invasion began in late February; and the former president stayed in character on Telegram on Tuesday, insisting that NATO "must repent to humanity and be dissolved as a criminal entity."

At any rate, the Pentagon poured cold water on the Patriot idea Tuesday when Press Secretary Air Force Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder told reporters, "Right now, we have no plans to provide Patriot batteries to Ukraine…And when and if there's something to announce on that front, we will."

Hours after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) suggested that Apple is "serving basically as a vassal to the Chinese Communist Party," Fox News' Tucker Carlson took to the airwaves to excoriate the California-based tech giant, suggesting that "Apple's loyalty is to the government of China."

One of City of London's senior staffers departs:

A top-ranking city hall bureaucrat has parted ways with the corporation, London's city manager announced in an email to staff on Monday.

She joined city hall in August 2021, according to her LinkedIn profile. Before that, she spent a little over a year as chief financial officer at London Health Sciences Centre before a slew of top executives exited the hospital network.

City hall would not provide details about the break other than to say city manager Lynne Livingstone will take over the role in the interim.

“We thank Jacqueline for her service to the city and our community,” city hall wrote in an e-mailed statement. “We respect the importance of confidentiality in employment matters and cannot comment on specificmatters.”

Davison’s exit is the second change among senior municipal managers in the last few weeks. Patti McKague, the communications boss at city hall for almost five years, left earlier this month.

Recruitment for Davison’s replacement is expected to begin early in 2023.

As head of enterprise supports, she oversaw:

  • – human resources,

  • – security,

  • – emergency management and

  • – IT,

among other corporate divisions at city hall.


Livingstone orchestrated a major restructuring among the city hall workforce just before Davison arrived, shaking up departments and replacing managing directors with deputy city managers. There are seven such roles reporting to Livingstone.

But not everyone in the party is happy about that development.

Ron DeSantis’ 19-point landslide re-election win convinced many GOP voters that DeSantis is the conservative who will fight the Left and win in 2024.

Polling data showed DeSantis overtaking President Trump in the critical state of Iowa – where the caucus that kicks off the nominating process takes place.

Donald Trump already declared his intention to run for re-election in 2024.

It is widely believed that DeSantis is waiting until the conclusion of the Florida legislative session in May to announce his Presidential campaign.

All the polling data shows Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis are the two Republicans that attract significant support.

Every other contender sits in the single digits.

But that isn’t stopping some of the RINOs who delude themselves into thinking they can be President from trying to undercut DeSantis.

RINO Maryland Governor Larry Hogan supports:

  • – abortion-on-demand,

  • – COVID lockdowns, and

  • – mask mandates.

Somehow Hogan thinks this is the resume of the next GOP Presidential nominee.

Hogan spoke to his moderate allies at National Review and pooh-poohed DeSantis’ 2024 chances.

“He’s certainly one of the voices. I’m not sure he’s going to be a candidate,” Hogan stated.

Hogan tried to push the “wait your turn” talking point by noting that DeSantis is a “young guy.”

Hogan also tried to paint DeSantis as a coward because DeSantis won’t attack Trump like Hogan does on a regular basis.

“Does he want to take on Trump? I’m not sure,” Hogan added.

There is no reason for DeSantis to attack Trump.

DeSantis isn’t running for President and, unlike Larry Hogan, DeSantis actually supports Donald Trump’s conservative America First agenda.

Hogan then claimed the nominating fight was in its infancy and the people that start out as frontrunners – Jeb Bush in 2016 or Hillary Clinton in 2008 – rarely end up as the nominee.

“I know that most of the media is focused on that but again, six months is an eternity in politics and I can tell you in almost every race I’ve ever seen the guy that comes out of the box first that everybody’s talking about two years out is almost never the nominee,” Hogan continued.

But what Larry Hogan left out is the fact that RINOs who support:

  • – abortion,

  • – gun control, and

  • – big government mandates

Fox News reporter uses Biden's own words to expose hypocrisy on decision to approve oil drilling in Venezuela:

Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy grilled John Kirby, strategic communications coordinator at the National Security Council, on Monday over the Biden administration's decision to permit Chevron to drill in Venezuela.

What is the background?

Over the holiday weekend, the Biden administration granted California-based Chevron a license to resume drilling operations in Venezuela.

The license is good for six months and requires the Venezuelan regime to continue good-faith negotiations on holding free and fair elections. The development is a partial rollback of Trump-era sanctions. But top American leaders made it clear those sanctions will be implemented again if President Nicolás Maduro’s government reneges on its part of the deal.

What happened?

At the White House press briefing, Doocy asked Kirby about the hypocritical nature of Biden's decision.

On one hand, approving oil drilling in Venezuela seemingly takes away from American oil companies, whose drilling and the revenue it generates would benefit the U.S. On the other hand, if Biden wants to stop oil drilling because of climate change, why is drilling in Venezuela acceptable?
