A petition to get rid of the Liberal government’s “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” (DEI) programs is the latest effort by the federal Conservatives to push back against far-left ideology.
They allege the programs wasted over a billion taxpayer dollars and undermined merit across the country.
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre urged Canadians to sign the petition on Thanksgiving Monday.
“Sign here. End DEI. Restore the merit principle,” he said.
The petition was shared four days earlier by Conservative MP Vincent Neil Ho.
“DEI should be dismantled and meritocracy should be restored. Sign here if you agree,” he said.
The petition explains the Liberals spent $1.049 billion on DEI bureaucracy while Canadians struggle to make ends meet.
Recently revealed records show the Liberals spent $1.04 billion in taxpayer money on DEI programs across 29 departments and agencies since 2016.
Some of the spending funded a study exploring how gaming communities on Minecraft and Roblox led to “radicalization” and “violent extremism.”
Another instance showed that over $3.2 million was given to the Canadian Women’s Chamber of Commerce to develop virtual-reality software allowing “intersectional” and women entrepreneurs to practice asking investors for money.
The figures highlighted were requested by MP Neil Ho last year.
He emailed Canadians Tuesday morning, saying the billion-dollar DEI bureaucracy was diverting money away from services Canadians require.
“Under the Liberals’ DEI bureaucracy, research is funded based on checking off enough identity checkboxes. This is incredibly dangerous to science and progress,” he wrote.
“Research funding must reward the best ideas, not political ideology; this is common sense. This approach has undermined academic freedom, silenced dissenting voices, and eroded trust in our Canadian institutions, which were once admirable. Hard-working taxpayers can’t afford to fund ideological activist projects while we face the highest cost of living in decades.”
Conservatives have pledged to restore fiscal discipline in government and end DEI bureaucracies, reallocating taxpayer money to services Canadians need.
“This Liberal government is out of touch, wasting billions on bureaucracy and ideological projects while Canadians face the highest cost of living in decades,” the petition reads.
Neil Ho shared a clip Tuesday morning of himself questioning Anne-Marie Thompson, Vice-President of Discovery and Research Scholarships for the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.
“She admits she has no research experience — yet the Liberal government put her in charge of handing out $1.4 billion in taxpayer-funded research grants every year,” he wrote. “So why was she appointed? Because under the Liberals, ideology matters more than merit.”
During her testimony, Thompson revealed that her organization’s DEI initiatives were priorities identified by the Liberal government.
However, she refused to comment on the fact that 88 per cent of faculty in Canadian universities are left-leaning, while only 12 per cent are right-leaning, highlighting a lack of viewpoint diversity.
The push to end DEI comes amid growing public scrutiny of taxpayer-funded initiatives promoting identity-based policies.
True North previously exposed a taxpayer-funded ad blitz promoting anti-Canada and pro-DEI views.
The Liberals similarly spent millions of taxpayer dollars on DEI identity-based “safe supply” drug programs.True North’s investigative series, “Values,” also revealed that Prime Minister Mark Carney was a long-time advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion before pursuing politics.

Hamas Fails to Return Israeli Victims’ Bodies Despite Agreement:
The stark reality of Hamas’ continued defiance emerged Monday as the terrorist organization failed to return the bodies of 24 Israeli hostages, breaking yet another agreement and prolonging the suffering of grieving families.
The facts are clear: Hamas agreed to return all remaining hostages, both living and deceased, by Monday noon as part of a ceasefire agreement that included Israel’s release of nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. While 20 living hostages were freed,
Hamas delivered only four bodies, leaving 24 families in perpetual anguish.
Rotem Cooper, whose father Amiram was murdered in Hamas captivity after being kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Oz during the October 7 terrorist attacks, expressed the devastating impact of this betrayal. “We hoped and expected that maybe 15 to 20 out of the 28 deceased hostages would be released, but that didn’t happen,” Cooper stated, highlighting Hamas’ tactical manipulation of humanitarian agreements.
The evidence of Hamas’ duplicity is mounting. Despite claiming inability to locate all bodies by the deadline, their track record of deception suggests a calculated strategy to maintain leverage. This pattern of behavior demonstrates why terrorist organizations cannot be trusted as legitimate negotiating partners.
The Hostages and Missing Families Forum has rightfully demanded “a very serious response” from the Israeli government and international mediators. Their position is logically sound: further stages of any peace plan should be contingent upon Hamas returning all remaining bodies to their families.
The Biden administration’s involvement in these negotiations requires immediate reassessment. The current approach has yielded minimal results while providing Hamas with diplomatic victories and prisoner releases. American leadership must demonstrate unwavering support for our democratic ally Israel while holding Hamas accountable for its continued violations of international law.
The IDF’s careful approach to military operations in Gaza, while investigating circumstances surrounding hostage deaths, stands in stark contrast to Hamas’ deliberate targeting of civilians. This fundamental difference between a legitimate military force and a terrorist organization cannot be overlooked in policy discussions.
Cooper’s personal tragedy – his mother’s release in October while his father was murdered in captivity – exemplifies the human cost of Hamas’ actions. His call for international pressure on Hamas deserves immediate attention from world leaders who claim to support human rights and international law.
The facts remain undeniable: Hamas continues to weaponize both the living and the dead in their war against Israel, while the international community’s tepid response enables their behavior. Until Hamas faces genuine consequences for breaking agreements, they will continue to exploit humanitarian concerns for tactical advantage.

Possible Hamas Hostage Return Violations put Trump’s Gaza Peace Deal at Risk

The biggest story of the week was Donald Trump's success in securing a peace deal between Israel and Hamas, to the point that the president flew to the Middle East for the agreement's signing.
Late Tuesday night, that was all put at risk.
According to reports, Hamas has not returned all the dead Israeli hostages, and the group reportedly also produced a body that did not belong to any of the known captives.
Hamas agrees
The return of hostages taken by Hamas, both dead and alive, has been a sticking point throughout this ordeal amid efforts to achieve peace between Israel and Hamas.
So, when Hamas agreed to return all the hostages, whether living or deceased, as part of Trump’s 20-point plan, it was a huge deal.
Hamas did return the 20 known living hostages, doing so earlier than expected, but problems emerged when the remains of dead hostages were set to be returned.
For starters, details are beginning to emerge about how the captives were tortured and killed. But an even larger problem looms… Hamas does not appear to have all the promised bodies.
Wrong Body Returned
At this point, many of the families of the hostages taken are only looking to have their remains returned so they can provide a proper burial and get some closure.
Initially, Hamas returned four dead bodies, but only three of them were confirmed to have been the bodies of Israelis known to have been held.
The fourth body was reportedly that of a Palestinian. Not only that, but Hamas had failed to deliver roughly two dozen more hostage bodies, bringing to light the question of whether the group even knew where they were located.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated, “We will not compromise on this and will not stop our efforts until we return the last deceased hostage, until the last one.”
Peace deal at risk
The peace deal cannot move forward to the next stage until all the bodies are returned, so this situation is clearly putting the entire agreement at risk. Not only that, Israel seems like it is champing at the bit to go back after Hamas if it fails to deliver the remains.
Shosh Bedrosian, a spokesperson for the prime minister’s office, stated,
“It is confirmed the [fourth] body is not of a hostage. … Hamas, the terror organization is required to uphold its commitments … and return all our hostages as part of the implementation of this agreement. We will not compromise on this. … [Hamas] made specific confirmation to President Trump.”
This has sent a bit of a panic wave through all parties involved, to the point that some experts are unsure if Hamas even knows where the bodies are located. Yousef Munayyer, executive director of the Arab Center in Washington, D.C., explained,
“So what's concerning now is that the Israelis seem to be acting as if this was a surprise, when in fact we knew that this was going to be an immense challenge. Remember, some 83 percent of structures in the Gaza Strip have been partially or completely destroyed, and there's very little heavy equipment with which to do the searching.”
Trump is somehow going to have to calm Israel down, or this entire peace deal will fall apart.
To be clear, what Hamas did is horrifying, but the bodies at issue are likely scattered all over Gaza, as Hamas was constantly moving and was known to have used the remains as shields. As Munayyer hinted, some of these bodies are likely buried in the rubble and may not be recovered until cleanup and rebuilding efforts begin. So now the question is whether this explanation will satisfy Israel or if its leaders will call off the deal and try to obliterate Hamas.
If Hamas did not have all the bodies, I cannot understand why they would agree to the agreement's terms. They could have been honest about the location of the bodies and worked that into the deal, and now the entire ceasefire scenario has been put at risk.

Austria: Surge In Youth Crime, Number of Syrian Suspects Rises By 3,900% In A Decade
In 2015, there were just 25 reports of youth crime involving Syrian nationals. By 2025, that figure has risen to over 1,000.
Juvenile crime among Syrian youths in Austria is rising at a dramatic pace, according to new figures released by the Ministry of the Interior.
In 2024 alone, authorities recorded around 1,000 reports against Syrian suspects aged 10 to 14 — a huge increase from just 25 such reports in 2015.
Overall, the number of criminal reports against minors in this age group has more than doubled in less than a decade, from about 5,160 in 2015 to over 12,000 last year, setting a new record, but Syrian nationals in particular are disproportionately represented.
Vienna is attempting to combat the rise. The Austrian government initially suspended family reunification rules for Syria from July to September 2025, and has sought to introduce an “integration barometer” to determine immigration quotas.
It is also looking to mirror Germany’s weapon-free zones, which give police broader powers to conduct checks, despite Germany’s federal police union dismissing the measure as ineffective.
Austrian police will also introduce a mandatory educational course for first-time offenders, with fines of several thousand euros for those who fail to attend with their parents.
For repeat juvenile offenders, police, youth welfare services, schools, and the judiciary will be required by law to hold joint case conferences. The government also plans to establish secure, prison-like accommodation for the most troubled young offenders. “The Ministry of Justice is developing a legal basis for this,” the ministry said, as cited by Exxpress, adding that the goal is to provide young people with “a structured daily routine with clear consequences.”
The liberal party NEOS has surprisingly called for even tougher interventions. “Anyone who rapes or robs at 13 is old enough to face the consequences,” said NEOS parliamentary group leader Yannick Shetty, who demanded mandatory anti-violence camps for juvenile offenders. These programs, he said, should be court-ordered and strictly structured, “not feel-good workshops in a circle of armchairs.” Shetty warned that “the age at which children and adolescents become violent continues to decline.”
Recent cases in Austria have highlighted the growing problem of violent and sexual crimes committed by Syrian youths. Earlier this month, a 15-year-old Syrian living in Lower Austria was convicted of robbery, assault, and theft after shoving another teenager onto train tracks in Korneuburg on April 27. The victim narrowly escaped serious injury, suffering only cuts and bruises, but the attacker walked free from court despite the convictions.
In another high-profile case from January 2025, a 17-year-old Syrian was acquitted of raping a 12-year-old girl after the court ruled there was insufficient evidence that the schoolgirl had not consented, sparking outrage among the public and politicians alike. The defendant left €100 with the victim’s legal representative as a “gesture of goodwill” following the verdict.
Austria’s experience mirrors trends seen in neighboring Germany, where Syrians are also significantly overrepresented in crime statistics. A series of recent cases has drawn national attention, including the rape of a 19-year-old Czech tourist in Dresden by two 15-year-old Syrians, and a Syrian father in Cuxhaven allegedly ordering his son to kill his sister over “honor.”

If you’ve been paying any attention at all to world events, you’ll have noticed something remarkable recently. Fiery, youth-led protests are threatening the government in country after country.
Identified as “Gen Z Protests,” these youth uprisings have been sweeping the world in recent months, from Madagascar to Peru to the Philippines to Nepal to Indonesia.
What on earth is going on here?
As it turns out, I’m not the only one asking this question.
After noting this worldwide protest phenomenon in a recent edition of New World Next Week, I made reference to my 2019 article, “Your Guide to a World on Fire.” Then, lo and behold, I received this comment from Corbett Report member angie.j:

INDONESIA
On August 25, a student protest demanding the dissolution of the Indonesian parliament quickly spread around the country, leading to multiple clashes between protesters and police.
The protests turned deadly on August 28, when an armoured police vehicle hit and killed Affan Kurniawan, a 21-year-old motorcycle delivery driver who hadn’t even been taking part in the demonstrations. This incident led to even greater protests and, eventually, to thousands of arrests as police and military clashed with rioters across Indonesia.
The unrest in Indonesia is the culmination of months of mounting public ire against the government in Jakarta.
President Prabowo Subianto—a military goon from the Suharto era who has experience with kidnapping and harassing democratic protesters—came to office a year ago promising to end government corruption, boost national self-reliance, and raise economic growth eight percent in the next five years. Instead, Indonesians got a “free” school lunch program that has cost taxpayers $10 billion per year and has resulted in mass food poisoning, 250% property tax hikes and a parliament whose members just gave themselves a monthly housing allowance equivalent to ten times the Indonesian minimum wage.
Now the government is cracking down on the social media outlets it believes fomented the unrest in the first place.
FRANCE
In scenes reminiscent of the gilets jaunes movement that was featured in my original World on Fire article in 2019, protesters took to the streets across France last month, blocking traffic, burning barricades and generally causing havoc.
The demonstrations were part of the “Bloquons Tous” movement, a radical new youth-led, social media-born campaign aiming to shut down the country in defiance of rising inequality and proposed government spending cuts.
The protest took place on incoming Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu’s first day in office and prompted the government to deploy more than 80,000 security personnel across the country. Hundreds of demonstrators were arrested.
KENYA
The Summer of Strife arguably kicked off in Nairobi, where anger over high youth unemployment, high cost of living, and rampant corruption and police brutality culminated in mass rallies, mass arrests, and, inevitably, violent clashes with the police. Dozens were killed, over a hundred injured and some five hundred arrested as police finally resorted to firing live rounds into the crowd.
The latest carnage in the country came around the first anniversary of similarly dramatic demonstrations last year, when Kenyans took to the streets in opposition to proposed new taxes on staple items like bread, cooking oil and diapers.
Those rallies resulted in the Kenyan parliament being set on fire while angry marchers shouted “We’re coming for every politician!” and frightened lawmakers fled the burning building through a tunnel.
The proposed tax hikes were eventually withdrawn, but discontent among Kenya’s youth has not abated. Rising costs of living combined with mass youth unemployment and the government’s vicious extrajudicial killings of activists continue to feed the flames of anger among the Gen Z protesters.
In response, the government has predictably blamed the unrest on “AI-generated protest anthems, satirical deepfakes, and viral political memes flooding the digital sphere” and has attempted to clamp down on social media.
MADAGASCAR
Protests against the unpopular government of President Andry Rajoelina swept across Madagascar in late September. Led by a group calling itself “Gen Z Madagascar,” the demonstrations began after a series of water and electricity outages sparked mass discontent, but they quickly snowballed into general anti-government anger.
After weeks of disruption, including ransacked shops and vandalism of politicians’ homes, the embattled Rajoelina—who first came to power in a 2009 military coup—was forced to dissolve the government, appoint a new prime minister and offer to engage in talks with protest leaders.
Still, this has not been enough to satisfy the public at large. As of press time, protesters are now demanding that Rajoelina resign from office this week.
MOROCCO
In Morocco, a group calling itself “Gen Z 212“ has revolted in opposition to widespread government corruption and a perceived lack of support for education and health care.
The movement crystallized last month after eight pregnant women all died following caesarean section at a public hospital in Agadir. Their deaths spurred an initial round of demonstrations in several cities throughout Morocco, with a fed-up population denouncing the state of the country’s public health system.
Amine Tahraoui, the country’s health minister, responded by dismissing several senior health officials and contractors, but his move was not enough to quell the dissent. Then, when the government’s heavy-handed response to the protests led to the death of two Moroccan youth, that seemed to be the final straw for the country’s disgruntled Gen Zers.
“We have almost completely lost faith in successive governments,” the Gen Z 212 group wrote in a statement on Discord. “This loss is not temporary, but rather the result of a long buildup of unfulfilled promises that have dangerously weakened trust in official institutions.”
Protesters are now openly calling for Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch’s resignation, with cries of “Akhannouch, out!” now regularly filling the streets of Casablanca.
NEPAL
As James Evan Pilato and I covered on New World Next Week last month, the Gen Z revolution has reached the shores of Nepal, as well.
In the span of a few startling days in September, a protest against a social media ban in the country spiraled into outright revolution. It left 19 protesters dead and saw the parliament being set on fire and the prime minister resigning.
The chaos was, of course, not just about a social media ban. It was a reflection of the public’s rage over rampant corruption in the Nepalese government and over the “nepo kids“—the rich and pampered offspring of the country’s political establishment—dominating Nepal’s political and social life.
What happened next surprised everyone in Nepal—even the protesters themselves. The shock wasn’t that former Supreme Court chief justice Sushila S. Karki was sworn in as the country’s first female prime minister, although perhaps that’s surprising in itself. The real shock was how Karki was selected: through an informal poll on Discord, the gaming chat app where the Gen Z protesters were coordinating their actions.
Unlike the uprisings in many of the other countries on this list, the one in Nepal quieted down after Karki’s appointment.
PERU
Peru’s protests kicked off on September 20 after the introduction of a deeply unpopular pension reform bill. But, as in so many other countries in recent months, the pension issue was only the spark that ignited a powder keg of public discontent over government corruption, violent crime and economic insecurity.
Since the initial protests, a series of strikes, marches and demonstrations have been growing in size and popularity. Early on, youth-dominated marches flooded the streets of Lima with anti-government resisters, but they have since been joined by the country’s miners—who succeeded in shutting down one of the country’s key mills—and the country’s transport workers—who managed to bring economic activity to a standstill with a general transport strike.
“My generation is coming out to protest now because we’re tired of being silenced, made to feel afraid when the government we elected should fear us,” one young Peruvian protester told Reuters last month.
As of press time, the protest movement seems to have succeeded in one of its primary aims: Peruvian President Dina Boluarte was just impeached and thrown out of office by the country’s lawmakers.
PHILIPPINES
Filipinos took to the streets by the tens of thousands late last month after it came to light that billions of dollars of public funds slated for flood control projects had been lost through government corruption.
Officials in charge of the projects were found to have been taking kickbacks from contractors in exchange for government contracts, and a number of projects that had already been publicly funded never materialized at all.
So far the demonstrations have resulted in mass arrests. More than 200 protesters in Manila were nabbed by police in a single day in September amid school closures and enforced curfews.
General Romeo Brawner, the chief of staff of the Philippine Armed Forces, confirmed in a recent press conference that “retired military officials have recently tried to convince him to support an uprising and withdraw support for the popularly elected president,” but he insists those calls have been rejected and there is no coup in the offing.
Nonetheless, protesters have not been dissuaded. Anticorruption marches are set to take place every Friday for the next two months, and a nationwide rally is scheduled for November 30.
SERBIA
In November 2024, the canopy of the newly renovated Novi Sad train station collapsed, killing 16 people, including three children.
In another country, this might have just been written off as a sad and senseless tragedy, but in Serbia, the question of how such an event could have happened was not difficult to answer: corruption. The Novi Sad incident prompted an investigation by the government that led to the indictment of thirteen officials for “irregular execution of construction work,” including the country’s construction minister, Goran Vesic.
But the criminal indictment was not enough to staunch public ire over the endemic corruption in the country. Incensed by the fact that the Novi Sad indictment did not include any examination into allegations of financial grift, university student-led street protests erupted on almost a daily basis. The movement has—by embattled Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic’s own count—resulted in “23,000 unregistered gatherings” in the past nine months.
What started as street marches against corruption is now a full-on revolutionary movement, with blockades, street battles between protesters and police, and accusations of police brutality. The students leading the protest claim their goal is nothing less than the overthrow of Vucic’s government.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Have you noticed any common thread connecting these various protest movements kicking off around the world?
I mean, besides the lamestream media’s shameless deployment of the generational psyop in their incessant labeling of the “Gen Z protesters“ who are “Gen Z protesting“ at their “Gen Z Protests“ with their stereotypical “Gen Z Rage“?
You may have also noticed a ubiquitous symbol that is apparently “spontaneously” showing up at these rallies: the One Piece Jolly Roger flag.
For those (like myself) who are decidedly not interested in Japanese comic books and cartoons, “One Piece” is a long-running Japanese manga that follows the exploits of “Monkey D. Luffy,” a smiling, swashbuckling pirate captain who leads his band of “Straw Hat pirates” around the world, liberating the oppressed from an autocratic world government.
The symbol of this plucky band of would-be liberators is, apparently, a Jolly Roger flag in which the skull is wearing the gang’s trademark straw hat.
So, how did this very particular symbol get picked up and used as a symbol of revolt in far-flung youth-led marches and rallies around the world, from Peru to the Philippines to Nepal to France to Morocco to Indonesia? Good question!
According to the various think pieces on the subject that are now flying out of the dinosaur media’s rinse-and-repeat article-generation factory, the explanation is simple: because the manga is “popular and familiar to a large swath of people.” At the same time, “it is representative of the ideology championed by a large segment of this generation,” and (these same talking heads insist) it is no different from the Guy Fawkes mask that became the symbol for Millennial protesters in the Occupy Wall Street era.
Well, that settles that then!
Of course, those who are familiar with the history of the cookie-cutter mass-manufactured protest movements known as “colour revolutions”—in which protesters all “spontaneously” decide to sport the same colour at their marches and rallies to create a type of branding for a “spontaneous” people’s uprising—might know better.
If you’ve followed the thread of the “colour revolution” plot (commencing in Serbia in the 1990s with the Otpor! protests and continuing to spread through Ukraine, Georgia and other geopolitically-sensitive hotspots in the 2000s), you’ll know the shady, NGO funding behind such plots. It doesn’t take an analytical genius to suspect that there may be similar forces behind the “spontaneous adoption” of this particular symbol by such disparate “Gen Z” protest movements around the world.
Still, it is far too politically naive to say that every protest movement that happens is a synthetic phenomenon, spun out of whole cloth by shadowy forces. While protest movements certainly can be organized and steered by nefarious actors, large rallies and marches do not materialize out of the ether because of dollars and deep state wishes alone; they are representations of a genuine resentment from the masses.
It isn’t difficult to see why young people around the world would be fed up with the status quo in their respective countries. Government corruption is endemic. Nepo kids flaunting their wealth while the people struggle to make ends meet is galling. Kickbacks and grift resulting in shoddy, crumbling public infrastructure (or, in the case of the Philippines’ flood control projects, no infrastructure at all) is the stuff revolutions are made of.
And, as has been pointed out recently, young people around the world are faced not only with “abnormally high“ food prices but also with a “staggering“ unemployment rate.
Combine those troubles with a world in which the future is increasingly set to be dominated by robots, drones and other AI-powered automatons and it isn’t hard to understand why young people feel they have nothing to gain from going along to get along in this rigged and failing system.
Ultimately, I think the unrest we are seeing right now is the inevitable result of the “Chaos Out of Order“ strategy I’ve identified in the past. The New World Order can’t be ushered in until the Old World Order has been swept out, so the disintegration of society is in fact a necessary part of this transitional moment. It shouldn’t be surprising that young people just beginning to make their way in the world are sensing this collapse and fighting against a system they see collapsing all around them.
Given the momentum of these worldwide protest movements, though, we are left in a similar position to where we were in 2019, when I penned my first “World on Fire” article. If you’ll recall, at that time I was left to speculate that the protest movements arising in so many places around the world meant that something big was about to be unleashed on the world . . . and a few months later we were plunged into the scamdemic.
Does this mean we’re being primed for something equally world-altering in the coming months? Stay tuned . . .
