Was the early church…socialist?
Acts 2 gives us great insight into how the early church looked and functioned. In verses 44-55, we read:
“Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.”
That kind of sounds like a form of socialism, doesn’t it? So, does that mean the Bible advocates for a socialist form of government? By no means.
While Acts 2:44-45 gives us a beautiful picture of a loving church body acting in sync, it is not a model of government for an unbelieving citizenry.
History has shown that without God’s Spirit to prompt charitable works, socialism is a recipe for disaster. And when those in government lack virtue and morality, there is inevitably corruption among those who enforce the redistribution.
I’d love for you to learn more about the dangers of socialism, especially in this day and age when it is again becoming a popular topic in today’s news. William J. Federer has written an excellent book called Socialism: The Real History from Plato to the Present, that I highly recommend.

Russia kept up its devastating assault on cities across Ukraine for a 20th day as air strikes and artillery fire pounded civilian neighbourhoods of Kyiv and other centres. Ceasefire talks have continued to founder, although another round of virtual negotiations was expected to happen today.
An apartment building on the western side of Kyiv was hit, killing at least two civilians early Tuesday.
As Russian forces continued to slowly push towards the centre of the city, Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko declared a 36-hour curfew that would begin at 8 p.m. local time tonight and last until 8 a.m. Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, the prime ministers of Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovenia were due to visit Kyiv on Tuesday in a show of solidarity with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his government. “The aim of the visit is to express the European Union’s unequivocal support for Ukraine and its freedom and independence,” Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala wrote on his Facebook page.

Zelenskyy pushes for direct meeting with Putin, hopes to de-escalate the conflict:
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made headlines after it was revealed this week that he’s pushing for a meeting with his invader, Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to Fox News, Zelensky said Ukraine is looking to negotiate with invading country, potentially to seek a diplomatic end to the bloody and devastating conflict.
“Representatives of our countries’ delegations speak in video format every day,” Zelensky said in a video posted to his Facebook page Sunday evening.
“Our delegation has a clear task – to do everything to ensure a meeting of the presidents. The meeting that I am sure people are waiting for,” Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian president said he would meet with Putin in Jerusalem, Israel, which follows Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett recently visiting with Putin.
Naftali went to Moscow earlier this week to ask the Russian leader about potentially mediating an end to the war.
Zelensky said he wants to see a quick end to the conflict in the least deadly way possible and reiterated his request for no-fly zones over Ukraine following Russia’s targeted attacks on military training facilities dangerously close to the country’s border with Poland.
“Last year, I made a clear warning to NATO leaders that if there were no tough preventive sanctions against Russia, it would start a war. We were right,” Zelenskyy said.
“And now I repeat again – if you do not close our sky, it is only a matter of time before Russian missiles fall on your territory. NATO territory. On the homes of citizens of NATO countries.”
Russia and Ukraine will begin their fourth negotiation session on Monday, and according to an adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, they have specific plans for the session.
“We will not concede in principle on any positions. Russia now understands this. Russia is already beginning to talk constructively,” presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak said in a video posted online Sunday. “I think that we will achieve some results literally in a matter of days.”
According to Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, while she believes Putin is “intent on destroying Ukraine,” she believes he could be forced to bargain by the unprecedented sanctions from the West that have all but completely crippled commerce within Russia. [Conservative Institute]

A year before the meeting, Canada’s Joint Task Force Ukraine produced a briefing on the Azov Battalion, acknowledging its links to Nazi ideology.
Canadian officials who met with members of a Ukrainian battalion linked to neo-Nazis didn’t denounce the unit but were instead concerned the media would expose details of the get-together, according to newly released documents.
The Azov Battalion then used those photos for its online propaganda, pointing out the Canadian delegation expressed “hopes for further fruitful co-operation.”
After a journalist asked the Canadian Forces about the Azov social media postings, officers scrambled to come up with a response, according to documents obtained by this newspaper through Access to Information law.
Lt. Col. Fraser Auld, commander of Canada’s Joint Task Force Ukraine,warned that a news article might be soon published and could result in questions being asked inside the Canadian government about why such a meeting took place.
Bernie Farber, head of the Canadian Anti-Hate Network, said the Canadians should have immediately walked out of the Azov Battalion briefing. “Canadian armed forces personnel do not meet with Nazis; period, full stop,” Farber said. “This is a horrendous mistake that shouldn’t have been made.”

Texas teens find four abandoned children under 4 years old. Police said they had been alone for up to 2 days:
A group of teenagers is being praised for their actions after they found four young children abandoned in a suburb of Houston, Texas.
Police in the city of Spring said they were alerted about the children on Thursday at about 11 p.m.
The teenagers said they saw three very young children roaming outside of a home. When they investigated, they found another baby inside the home.
They called their parents who alerted the police.
Two of the teenagers described to KRIV-TV what they saw when they encountered the children.
"Running up to us, screaming with excitement, like 'Oh my gosh, people,'" said Lizette Lingle. "One just rips off the diaper and comes running in the street naked."
"We knocked on their front door. Nobody answered," said Jonathan Ubeda. "We looked through their front window. Everything's a mess."
They were about to leave when they heard a sound.
"When we left out the house, my girlfriend heard like a thump, like BOOM, then a baby started crying, and when she goes back there to look, it's a whole little one-year-old baby," Ubeda continued.
Police said it was unclear how long the children were alone, but that it could have been for up to two days.
The oldest of the children, who was four years old, told police that they believed their mother was dead.
But she was not dead, and police found her at a motel miles away from the home.
Police charged 27-year-old Angela Huff, the mother of the children, with four counts of child abandonment.
On Monday, Huff told a judge that she didn't have friends or family to help with the children. The judge told her to focus on her mental health.
Huff's attorney told the court that her client suffered from PTSD, anxiety, paranoia, and depression from an incident where the children's father was charged with choking her in a hotel room.
Prosecutors said Huff initially told police she left the children with a friend but later admitted she had left them unsupervised.
“So, the dynamic was probably that she felt compelled. He’s the father of her children,” Huff's attorney, a public defender, said. “I think there’s probably some battered spouse syndrome in there.”
The children were put in the custody of a trusted relative.
