Trump Returning to Washington for First Time Since Leaving Office:
Former President Donald Trump plans to return to Washington, D.C., for the first time since leaving office in January 2021, according to Axios.
Trump is scheduled to headline a July 26 event for the America First Policy Institute (AFPI), Axios reported Thursday.
The former president is slated to deliver the keynoteaddress at 3 p.m. ET on the second day of the AFPI's two-day, invitation-only policy summit. The event will be streamed live and open to the press.
Two new GOP primary polls show Trump with a commanding lead over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in the race for the party's 2024 presidential nomination.
The former president was a near majority favorite in a New York Times poll released Tuesday, earning 49% support among GOP voters — 24 points better than DeSantis (25%). Tuesday's Politico/Morning Consult Poll gave Trump a majority at 52%, which was 31 points better than his closest challenger, DeSantis (21%).
Former Trump administration officials, members of Congress, governors, and state officials also are scheduled to participate in AFPI panel discussions and presentations.

Both candidates claim a strong pro-Trump, America First agenda.
Lamon, a former star college football player, Army paratrooper, and entrepreneur who built a nearly billion-dollar energy business, aimed his fire at current front-runner Masters.
Lamon challenged Masters; for supporting immigration, being "owned" by his wealthy out-of-state donors, and not working to "fix" Big Tech when Masters; was a part of that powerful and wealthy industry.
"We cannot have someone who is inexperienced, someone who is young, who has not gone through the rigors, someone who is a global capitalist from California who, by the way, never answered the question of why did he write what he said about having open borders," Lamon told the crowd at Madison Center for the Arts in Phoenix, Arizona, in the live Newsmax debate moderated by anchor John Bachman.

Obama sent Ugly Email to Personal Physician after he Questioned Biden’s Cognitive Health:
A newly leaked email reveals former President Barack Obama excoriated a White House physician who served under both his administration and that of Donald Trump for questioning the mental fitness of Joe Biden.
According to a Fox News report Wednesday, Dr. Ronny Jackson received the stern rebuke after a 2020 tweet he sent about Biden’s cognitive decline.
Jackson was, at that time, running for the U.S. House of Representatives in Texas; he would go on to win that race.
In 2018, Jackson had also drawn ridicule from commentators for a cognitive evaluation he’d given to then-President Trump, finding he was in “excellent” mental condition with “absolutely no cognitive or mental issues whatsoever.”
Jackson had retweeted a video of what he called Biden’s “latest cognitive misadventure.”
“Remember the cognitive test that I gave @realDonaldTrump? The one he aced! Sounds like somebody else might need some testing done!! Scary!!” he tweeted.
Obama sent him a “scathing” email within 20 minutes of the tweet going up.
“I have made a point of not commenting on your service in my successor’s administration and have always spoken highly of you both in public and in private,” Obama wrote.
“You always served me and my family well, and I have considered you not only a fine doctor and service member but also a friend.
“That’s why I have to express my disappointment at the cheap shot you took at Joe Biden via Twitter. It was unprofessional and beneath the office that you once held. It was also disrespectful to me and the many friends you had in our administration,” he continued.
“You were the personal physician to the President of the United States as well as an admiral in the U.S. Navy. I expect better, and I hope upon reflection that you will expect more of yourself in the future.”
Jackson first revealed the email in his memoir, “Holding the Line: A Lifetime of Defending Democracy and American Values.”
“Biden was on TV again, making crazy statements and concerning mental gaffes; he didn’t know what state he was in or what office he was campaigning for,” Jackson wrote of Biden’s cognitive state during the 2020 election cycle.
“He apparently thought at one point that he was running for the Senate and later couldn’t remember what state he was campaigning in. This had been going on for months and was getting worse.”
Jackson said he considered calling Obama about the email. However, friend and conservative podcaster Dan Bongino reminded him that Obama had stayed quiet while the media pilloried Jackson during a bitter confirmation fight after Trump had nominated him to be head of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
“So, upon reflection, I thought, you know what? Screw that guy! I’m not doing it,” Jackson wrote. “I just walked away from it, which was the last time I had any contact with [Obama].” [Main Street Gazette]

Tennessee Democratic Rep. Steve Cohen on Thursday declared that Canada has supplanted the United States as the "freest country in the world" because some states are now preventing women from killing their unborn babies at will.
During a House Judiciary Committee hearing on the impact of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, Cohen took issue with a pro-life witness' statement that America is the freest country in the world.
"I love America. I'm an American and I love America and love this country, but they said we're the freest country in the world ... well, right now, Canada is the freest country in the world," Cohen said via teleconference.
"And there are a few other countries along with Canada that are more free than America, when you cut women away from having the opportunity to get their families and their bodies to be their choices," he added.
In its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, the Supreme Court ruled that the Constitution does not grant a federal right to abortion and that each state legislature holds the power to pass laws permitting or restricting abortion. Elected representatives will make these laws as they see fit, according to the will of their constituents as expressed at the ballot box.

The B.C. Court of Appeal will decide Friday whether a lower court erred in a landmark decision that upheld key components of the province’s public health care system and dismissed a challenge that critics charged would prioritize access based on ability to pay over medical need.
The pandemic has laid bare the vulnerabilities of Canada’s health system and left many demanding changes.
“From a policy perspective, the question is: Would this actually be solved by having a two-tier health care system?” said Colleen Flood, University of Ottawa Research Chair in Health Law and Policy. “And then the legal question is: Can you stop someone with money, or private insurance, from accessing private health care if they are claiming a Charter right when there are long wait times?”
The plaintiffs in the case – led by Brian Day, an orthopedic surgeon and president and chief executive of Cambie Surgeries Corporation – argued that patients have a constitutional right to pay out-of-pocket for medically necessary care when wait times in the public system are too long. Bank of Canada blames Oil Price Shifts for Inflation Forecasting Errors
The Bank of Canada says it consistently underestimated the trajectory of inflation over the past year, pointing to unexpectedincreases in global commodity prices and shifting patterns of consumer spending that it failed to fully account for.
This misreading of inflation means it has to play catch-up, pushing interest rates aggressively higher and increasing borrowing costs to prevent consumer prices from spiraling out of control, reports Mark Rendell. Its latest rate hike, announced this week, was an increase of a full percentage point, the biggest move since 1998.
Errors in forecasting have a major impact on monetary policy. Because changes in interest rates take time to trickle through the economy, central bankers have to adjust their policy based on where they think inflation will be many quarters out. That makes accurate forecasting important.
