Miller launched a partisan attack on Pierre Poilievre over the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

 

Marc Miller seems to be having a hard time settling into his new job as Canada’s Minister of Immigration. It seems like he thinks Prime Minister Justin Trudeau asked him to replace guttersnipe Mark Gerretsen as the chief Liberal troll on Twitter.

Miller, formerly the Minister of Crown Indigenous Relations, has long been seen as one of the serious people in the Trudeau cabinet, someone who values public service over partisan hot takes.


That appears to have gone out the window of late as Miller thinks he’s trying to replace Gerretsen as the man charged to say the most embarrassing things on behalf of the Trudeau government.

No one should try to be like Mark Gerretsen, a man who embarrasses his office, and the government he represents on a daily basis.

 

On Saturday, Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Miller decided to break with his character and his established brand to take cheap shots at Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre. In posts to social media, Poilievre said that he had attended a ceremony on Parliament Hill with Algonquin leaders.

 

The entire area around Parliament is traditionally Algonquin territory and while elders from the Algonquins led the ceremonies, whoever was working Poilievre’s social media only posted photos of the Conservative leader with Inuit leaders.

That saw Miller take cheap political shots on what is supposed to be a national holiday about truth and reconciliation.

Miller was taken to task for his cheap comments by people across the political spectrum, who asked if he’d next be dunking on the Conservative leader on Remembrance Day. While pundits and politicos made their views known that Miller had stepped over the line, none of the commentary was as biting as what came from Manitok Thompson herself.

 

Thompson, who has previously sought a Liberal nomination to run as an MP, asked Miller — whom she referred to as her favourite MP — why he wasn’t at the event.

“I was a leader today with a chance to say what Truth and Reconciliation should address. Where were the Liberals? Even the Ministers, are they too childish not to be in the same gathering as the Conservatives? Reconciliation means together we stand,” Thompson posted to X.

In response to the photo of her holding her head close to Poilievre’s, she simply said, “We prayed for Canada.”

There was no need for Miller to lash out in such a partisan way at Poilievre over these photos, especially not on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. You can hardly be living the spirit of the day if you are trying to score cheap political points and angering Inuit elders in the process.

 

Over the last month, Miller posted attacks on Poilievre several times calling him a “jackass” and “a very well paid taxpayer funded toxic internet troll,” among other things. Seems Miller is the one acting like an internet troll.

Meanwhile, the major department he took over recently is a mess in need of attention. At a time when Canada needs economic immigration, especially in the skilled trades, there remains a lengthy delay.

 

The country brought in a record number of permanent residents last year but also a record number of foreign students, more than 900,000, something Miller said is leading to questions about the integrity of the system.

Miller should get to work fixing these problems and looking after his new and larger portfolio, rather than auditioning to become Trudeau’s latest attack dog. It’s not a role that suits him.

Venezuelan gang takes over Colorado apartment complex after police fail to address issue, owner says

City closes down Aurora complex.

The owner of an apartment complex in Aurora, Colorado, is blaming the local police department for the city’s recent shutdown of the location, claiming that law enforcement officials allowed Tren de Aragua, a violent Venezuelan gang, to take over the area, the Sentinel Colorado reported.


All of the tenants at the Aspen Grove Apartments will be forced to vacate the property Tuesday after the city declared it uninhabitable.

'They can’t expect these issues to be resolved by landowners.'


The owner of the property told the Sentinel Colorado that the location was shut down because the Aurora Police Department failed to curb gang activity. However, city officials are denying the owner’s claims, instead contending that the complex’s property manager is facing court action over a number of health and safety code violations. According to the city, those violations date back to 2019, before TDA was active in the area.

 

Photographs of the complex provided to the news outlet reportedly showed rat, mouse, and cockroach infestations, piled-up trash, and hazardous electrical and plumbing issues.


The city maintains that the shutdown is unrelated to any gang activity. It claimed that the owner is using “diversionary tactics” to deflect responsibility for years of “substantial, longstanding, unresolved code violations.”


Aurora reportedly sent a “nuisance” letter to the owner and property manager last year warning that the complex could be shut down. However, that order specifically cited the location as a criminal nuisance after the city received more than 100 calls for services from October 2022 to September 2023.

 

The owner argued that those calls were for law enforcement to address.

“They can’t expect these issues to be resolved by landowners,” he told Sentinel Colorado. “I told them time and time again, if you guys only took this seriously eight months ago, nine months ago, you probably could have stomped it out with relative ease.”

 

According to the owner, his tenants have told him they have witnessed TDA members break into vacant apartments, patrol the area with rifles, and even threaten residents to pay them rent.

 

Denver Police told the news outlet that “there are reasons to believe” that TDA is tied to some crimes in the area.


“Confirming gang affiliation is challenging because suspected members of this gang often give false identities during law enforcement contacts and typically do not admit membership to the gang,” the department noted.

 

Aurora Police did not respond to the Sentinel Colorado’s request for comment.

Israel is one of the few places in the world that faces enemies determined to annihilate her—to wipe her clean off the map. It’s as if Canada were to say to the United States that they want to wipe the U.S. off the map. However, Israel is much smaller, with enemies far larger than she is, so the reality is quite different.

 

Israelis do not want war. If you ask them, many would say that they want to live peacefully side by side with their Arab cousins. War is an unwanted reality, but there is an understanding that it is sometimes necessary. Gaza has been firing rockets with increasing frequency, and this recent invasion is a reality check that they truly do intend to destroy Israel.

Yet, after the invasion and barbaric massacre on October 7th, instead of worldwide sympathy, much of the concern has been directed towards our enemies in various ways. Antisemitism has reared its ugly head globally in cities and universities at an alarming rate.

 

However, despite these circumstances, Israelis are a resilient people. You might think everyone here would be hiding in bomb shelters until the storm passes, but it’s amazing to see that many are still going about daily life—meeting up, going out to restaurants, and so on.

Israel is our home, and we must defend it.

 

Another element of this difficult time of war, is introspection, questioning our purpose and the meaning of life. What is most important in life? Many are reeling from the pain of the loss of loved ones, while others are praying day and night for their loved ones on the front lines, and also our soldiers wondering what the future will hold, as seemingly cataclysmic upheavals continue. Many meaningful conversations have emerged as a result. We must win the battle of faith over fear right now.

Eric O'Neill, a former FBI counterterrorism and counterintelligence operative, told DailyMail.com that foreign spies have spent over a decade looking for security holes in infrastructure to leverage for conducting catastrophic cyber attacks.

 

To conduct such an attack, O'Neill said the perpetrator would likely target the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) networks, which help manage industrial equipment because they are easy targets due to insufficient cybersecurity and outdated software.

A massive data breach at a Florida background-check company has exposed the private information — including Social Security numbers — of some 2.9 billion people to the dark web.


Coral Springs-based National Public Data, operated by Jericho Pictures Inc., specializes in criminal records and background checks. A hacker known as "Fenice" reportedly raided NPD's database and leaked records that included personal data such as full names, addresses, and Social Security numbers.

National Public Data hasn't yet disclosed how or when the breach occurred.

Today the Sheriff finally came to enforce the Eviction Order she was given over two weeks ago after not having paid ANY rent for 15 months. When we were finally allowed back into OUR house, the police officer could hardly break the door in because it was baracated with garbage. The smell was so bad I couldn't stand it and the amount of damage is unbelievable.

 

The police said that I won't likely get any money out of her for owed rent or property damage. I waited over one year to get an eviction order from the Landlord Tenant Board. I'm so frustrated and fed up that I don't think I'll ever rent out my house again. It's too bad that horrible tenants like her ruin it for all the good tenants.

Canada: 47% want Smaller Government:

Nearly half of Canadians think that the government is too big.

 

According to a Leger poll commissioned by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, 47% of Canadians believe the number of federal government employees should be reduced.

Between July 26 and 28, Leger asked over 1,600 random Canadians over 18 what they think should happen to the increasing size of government bureaucracy.

 

“Since Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took power in 2015, the federal government has hired an additional 108,000 employees, which is a 42% increase in less than a decade,” The poll said to Canadians before asking their opinion. “For comparison, Canada’s population grew by 14% during that time. There are now 367,772 federal government employees.”

 

Over a quarter, 29%, of Canadians think the government ought to maintain its federal employment levels, while 7% believe the bureaucracy is not big enough.

When those who responded “don’t know” were asked if the federal employee count should be raised, decreased or maintained, 56% of those who had an opinion said the size of the state should be reduced.


Over a third of those with an opinion wanted to maintain the number of federal employees, and only 9% wanted to see that number increased.NDP voters were the most likely to want the public sector to grow, with 15% of them saying there should be more federal employees. However, NDP voters were more likely to want the size of the bureaucracy to remain the same.

  • ·        Thurs. 8 Aug. 2024 Philippine Election Fraud: A federal grand jury in the Southern District of Florida returned an indictment today charging three executives of an election voting machine and service provider company and a former Chairman of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) of the Republic of the Philippines for their roles in an alleged bribery and money laundering scheme to retain and obtain business related to the 2016 Philippine elections. According to the indictment, between 2015 and 2018, Roger Alejandro Pinate Martinez, 49, a Venezuelan citizen and resident of Boca Raton, Florida, and Jorge Miguel Vasquez, 62, a U.S. citizen and resident of Davie, Florida, together with others, allegedly caused at least $1 million in bribes to be paid to Juan Andres Donato Bautista, 60, the former Chairman of COMELEC. These bribes were allegedly paid to obtain and retain business related to providing voting machines and election services for the 2016 Philippine elections and to secure payments on the contracts, including the release of value added tax payments. The co-conspirators allegedly funded the bribes through a slush fund that was created by over-invoicing the cost per voting machine for the 2016 Philippine elections. To conceal and disguise the nature and purpose of the corrupt payments, the co-conspirators used coded language to refer to the slush fund and caused the creation of fraudulent contracts and sham loan agreements to justify transfers.
