Does Honouring God in our lives Work?
If you make God feel at home by hanging scripture verses and holy pictures and saying Grace at mealtimes, it will have a profound effect on your whole household. It makes living the Life so much easier. We know this from looking at the terrible effect it had when schools removed the Lord's Prayer and other tokens of our Christianity such as Gideon New Testaments back in 1963 in the USA.
Former Secretary of Education, William Bennet, revealed in his cultural indexes that between 1960 and 1990 divorce doubled, teenage pregnancy went up 200 percent, teen suicide increased 300 percent, violent crime went up 500 percent and he maintains that there is a strong correlation between the expulsion of prayer from our schools and decline in morality.
It should be made clear that prayer has positive psychological, physical and emotional influences. Focusing on your emotions by praying can help relieve stress, calm fears and reduce anxiety. When cardiologist Randolph Byrd, did his famous study on the effects of prayer in April 1982 through May 1983, he found that praying on a regular basis can have an enormous effect on the psyche of an individual by stabilizing their mood, giving them a feeling of well-being, improving how they interact with others and positively changing the way they conduct themselves. When it comes to children and how they behave in school, prayer and all these positive effects that it holds can have enormous constructive effects on their outlook and those around them.

Canada started doing this much later than the USA. The Lord's Prayer wasn't removed until 1988 in Ontario and as late as 2014 in Alberta. I assume this accounts for the lag in teen problems in our country.
I like to observe the walls in homes of people I visit. Their walls tell you a lot about their minds and hearts... who and what they honor the most. For instance, one home was covered with pictures of their children, no pictures of the couple, and certainly no religious hangings. They were good parents inasmuch as they doted on their kids, with no end to their love for them.
But the parents' lives have been filled with pain as the kids got into all kinds of illegal and immoral activities. The kids grew up believing they were the center of their worlds because they were! Unintentionally, the parents bred selfishness into the children.
Everything revolved around the child. It was a home where the parents were meant to entertain and serve the kids. Proverbs says the opposite. Children are for the delight of the parents. This puts the light on the kids in a healthy way as they get to stage their accomplishments for the amusement and pleasure of the parents who should be their best audience. The Junior still gets to show off at sports or making stuff, but the psychology is reversed. The kids lives rotate around the parents who should be united in Christian love which revolves around God.
At our house, there are two signs on the front door, one like the Joshua plaque above, and another which asserts "The family that prays together stays together". We're far from perfect inside. We each have our unhealthy addictions but we know, without a doubt, that God lives with us - and that's a perfect consolation and motivation for living the Life of Jesus. God only knows how bad it would be without this, and how good it will be with this. As Gert BeHanna [wealthy socialite] said in 1966, "I ain't what I ought to be, I ain't what what I'm gonna be, but thank God I ain't what I used to be." You gotta love this 75-minute Testamony at Yale University. I never forgot it. It's fantastic. And funny.
