I wrote the following article several years ago, and was reminded of it by an observation made about Gaza and the Palestinians today. Gaza was allowed to be autonomous by Israel, and has also received billions of dollars in aid. With this money they could have built a prosperous enclave, but instead built tunnels and bought weapons. The Palestinians are driven by destructive hate as described below. But there is also a lesson for those who do not think Scripture is important.

Ten (now nineteen) years ago President George W. Bush, along with others, pressured Israel to give up land in Gaza in return for “peace.” The area was known as Gush Katif (“Harvest Bloc” in Hebrew) and was responsible for $200 million in high quality produce sales each year. It is estimated that Israel lost $450,000 daily in revenues because of the destruction of Gush Katif.

On August 13, 2005, the evacuation of Gush Katif began. The forcible removal of 8,600 residents from their homes was done by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). The homes were destroyed. The Israelis had too much respect for the synagogues to destroy them, but the Palestinians happily did the job when the land was given to them.
On August 22, 2005 the last of the residents were forcibly removed from their homes. On August 23, 2005 Hurricane Katrina formed and forcibly removed thousands of Americans from their homes, creating $108 Billion in damages in the process. Some persons believe this was the result of the Lord’s promise to Abraham; “Those who curse you, I will curse.” (Genesis 12:3)
The Jewish Press, a U.S. based publication, provided the following information regarding the persons involved in the tragedy of Gush Katif:
· Six months after the expulsion, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, who initiated the operation, suffered a debilitating stroke that put him into a coma from which he did not recover and led to his subsequent death in 2014.
· His son, Omri Sharon, a Knesset member, one of his father’s closest advisers on the Gush Katif plan, was convicted close to the time of the operation of falsifying corporate documents and perjury, and sentenced to seven months in prison, never returning to politics afterwards.
· Israel’s President, Moshe Katsav, who chose the eve of the deportation to preach sanctimoniously to the settlers about respecting the decisions of state authorities and accepting their plight, was forced to accept the decision of the authorities himself, having been sentenced to seven years in prison for sex crimes against his female employees.
· Ehud Olmert, a minister in Sharon’s government and a major supporter of the evacuation plan, who replaced the ill Sharon as prime minister, was later tried in connection with several scandals, for two of which he has been sentenced to a combined term of six years and eight months in prison.
· Sharon’s Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz, who carried out the disengagement plan and was one of its biggest supporters, watched his political career diminish rapidly, until he failed to make it into the Knesset last March and was forced to announce his retirement from politics.
· IDF Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Dan Halutz, who led the displacement operation, which he named “Operation Determination and Sensitivity,” proved to be an abysmal failure when he wasn’t facing civilians in the 2006 Israel–Hezbollah Second Lebanon War, was humiliated by the Winograd Committee that investigated the IDF failures, and resigned even before the committee report was made public.
· Police Commissioner Moshe Karadi was severely criticized by the Zeiler Commission report on a variety of issues and resigned in disgrace.
· Police Southern District commander Uri Bar-Lev, who ran the police forces at the evacuation, came under investigation for sexual harassment and resigned. Also, in appropriate fashion, three years after Gush Katif, Bar Lev’s own home was demolished by bulldozers, having dropped into a sink hole.
All of the Lord’s promises never fail, even thousands of years later. Praise His name for His promises to us! And let us never be party to actions that go against His Chosen People.

Alabama Supreme Court rules frozen embryos are children, cites the Bible in opinion:
In a controversial opinion that could end the practice of in vitro fertilization in the state, the Alabama Supreme Court on Friday declared that frozen embryos are “children” entitled to the same legal rights as other “unborn children.”
The opinion was issued in a case involving the accidental destruction of several embryos at a Mobile fertility clinic, The Center for Reproductive Medicine, when a wandering patient entered the area where they were stored and dropped several containers. Three couples whose embryos were destroyed sued the Center, but a circuit court judge threw out the lawsuit because the embryos were not covered under Alabama’s “Wrongful Death of a Minor Act.”
“The cryopreserved, in vitro embryos involved in this case do not fit within the definition of a ‘person,’” the trial court wrote in dismissing the cases.
As such, there were no claims remaining – aside from a breach of contract – for the plaintiffs to make. The court couldn’t award damages for wrongful death and Alabama law prohibits the recovery of damages from a third-party who hasn’t suffered physical injury.
However, writing for the court’s majority, Justice Jay Mitchell reversed the lower court, opened up several new and creative avenues for future lawsuits and likely made IVF treatments in Alabama unaffordable. Writing in a concurring opinion, ALSC Chief Justice Tom Parker turned the opinion into a citation of Biblical scripture.
“When the People of Alabama adopted (the ‘sanctity of life’ provision of the state constitution), they did not use the term ‘inviolability,’ with its secular connotations, but rather they chose the term ‘sanctity,’ with all of its connotations,” Parker wrote. “This kind of acceptance is not foreign to our Constitution, which in its preamble ‘invok[es] the favor and guidance of Almighty God,’ … and which declares that ‘all men … are endowed [with life] by their Creator.’ The Alabama Constitution’s recognition that human life is an endowment from God emphasizes a foundational principle of English common law, which has been expressly incorporated as part of the law of Alabama.”
Parker then went on to cite two overtly Christian texts – “Theology Today” and “Manhattan Declaration: The Call of Christian Conscience” – to help define the phrase “sanctity of life” and argue that life begins at conception because, “all human beings bear God’s image from the moment of conception.”
From there, Parker went on to quote the Bible and another theological text that explained, in his words, “the significance of man’s creation in God’s image.”
Justice Greg Cook, the court’s lone dissenter, avoided the biblical arguments and instead focused on the laws as written, noting that nothing in the “wrongful death act” or Alabama law has defined an embryo as a “child.” Such a definition would be necessary to reach the court’s opinion, and it would need to be reached with legal arguments, not biblical ones.
Additionally, Cook wrote that the decision would have a chilling effect on the IVF process in Alabama.
“… there are other significant reasons to be concerned about the main opinion’s holding,” Cook wrote. “No court — anywhere in the country — has reached the conclusion the main opinion reaches. And, the main opinion’s holding almost certainly ends the creation of frozen embryos through in vitro fertilization (“IVF”) in Alabama.”

Trump investigator hits JACKPOT in trove of calls and texts between Fani Willis and Wade:
Former President Trump hired an investigator to map out cellphone calls and text messages between Fani Willis and Nathan Wade, and he hit the jackpot.
“Nathan Wade appeared to make at least 35 visits to the Hapeville neighborhood where Fani Willis was living before the district attorney hired him to lead Fulton County’s election interference prosecution, according to cellphone data included in a court submission filed Friday,” AJC Politics reported.
Trump’s attorneys’ filings introduce new evidence in the case against Willis and seem to indicate she lied about when her relationship with Wade began. It could very well result in possible perjury charges, discipline from the bar, and removal from the former president’s case.
“Trump’s lawyers relied on data collected from Wade’s cellphone and cellphone tower transmissions to track his movements. It seems to contradict Wade’s testimony last week in which he said he had visited Willis at her condo in Hapeville no more than 10 times before he was hired in November 2021. It also indicates Wade twice arrived late at night at the condo and left early the next morning in the months before Willis and Wade said their relationship became romantic early in 2022,” AJC Politics continued.
Willis and Wade’s timeline is problematic, to say the least.
“The timeline is important for two reasons. If Willis and Wade were a couple before she hired him it raises the prospect that she may have violated at least the spirit of anti-nepotism rules, though Fulton’s policy specifically focuses on family members. More importantly, both Willis and Wade have testified under oath that the relationship began in 2022. If defense attorneys can prove that they lied under oath it could constitute perjury,” AJC Politics noted.
“Friday’s court filing includes an affidavit from Charles Mittelstadt, a longtime investigator for defense attorneys. He said he obtained the cellphone data from AT&T through a subpoena,” the media outlet wrote.
“Mittelstadt said he used the online tool, CellHawk, to determine where Wade spent his time in 2021. ‘CellHawk is considered by law enforcement to be the gold standard in cellphone records analytics,’ Mittelstadt said, noting it is used by law enforcement throughout the U.S. and Georgia,” AJC Politics stated.
According to the affidavit, Willis and Wade called each other more than 2,000 times during the first 11 months of 2021. They sent each other approximately 12,000 text messages during that time as well.
Conservative pundit Megyn Kelly summed up the findings on X, “Stunning that Team Trump got their hands on this in the #FaniWillis case. More evidence that these two prosecutors lied, under oath. They’re looking at perjury charges and worse. Discipline from the Bar. And there is zero chance they can stay on this case. It’s DONE.”
Judge Scott McAfee will now review the new cell phone evidence as he decides whether or not to disqualify Willis and Wade from Trump’s election interference case in Georgia.

Some believe that the Bur-Sagale eclipse happened at the same time that Jonah was in Ninevah warning the population that the city would be destroyed...
The Bur-Sagale eclipse occurred over the Assyrian capital city of Nineveh in the middle of the reign of Jeroboam II, who ruled Israel from 786 to 746 B.C. According to 2 Kings 14:25, the prophet Jonah lived and prophesied in Jeroboam's reign. The biblical scholar Donald Wiseman has speculated that the eclipse took place around when Jonah arrived in Nineveh and urged the people to repent, otherwise the city would be destroyed.
This would explain the dramatic repentance of the people of Nineveh as described in the Book of Jonah. Ancient cultures, including Assyria, viewed eclipses as omens of imminent destruction, and the empire was in chaos at this time, struggling with revolts, famines and two separate outbreaks of plague.
I can understand how the appearance of such an eclipse could have been seen as strong confirmation of Jonah's message to the people of Ninevah.

Well what do you expect when you invite half the world to come live here and they are at war with each other? Many bring their conflicts with them. Assimilation takes time and good vetting.
The conflict in the Middle East has sparked debate and stoked tensions across the country.
As those high emotions spill over into the workplace, they can disrupt careers, damage professional relationships and undermine organizational goals.

Employees of all kinds have reported feeling less safe and secure at work, posing a significant challenge to leaders.
Psychological safety in a team allows for risk-taking, idea expression, asking questions and admitting mistakes, void of the fear of negative consequences. Without it, organizational performance and innovation suffer.
Leaders are also under scrutiny over how they respond to the tension: go too far — or not far enough — and they can be seen to be taking sides.
The good news is that with attention, care and the right kind of leadership, the negative impact of these tensions can be mitigated. The bad news is that the 2024 workplace is a complex place: It is unpredictable and deeply interconnected and a conflict as heated as the Israel/Hamas war can throw a wrench into any tried-and-true leadership “best practices.”
Here are some ways leaders can try to manage the current uncertainty.
1. More in-person work
Leaders can make concerted efforts to get employees to spend more time directly engaging with one another. There should be less reliance on messaging mediums such as Slack, which can be helpful but also can dish out the same problematic dopamine rush as social media.
This rush is known to exacerbate irrationality and aggression. It can encourage dangerous moral outrage and a nasty cycle of employee tit-for-tat. To be sure to get the benefits of instant messaging apps, experts recommend a set of protocols that include etiquette and rules. These also should be enforced.
For example, what kind of content is appropriate for group channels versus direct messages? What amounts to unacceptable behaviour? How can employees decide when it might be best to meet in person and why?
There is extensive evidence that more direct contact increases camaraderie and reduces prejudice. When possible, leaders should bring employees together to work on important tasks, versus merely in social contexts.
2. Get back to the big picture
Research suggests that leaders should create an environment where the focus is on the work itself. This includes taking every chance to broadcast employees’ contributions to broad, common organizational goals. They should push shared organizational visions and illustrate how values are translated into actions and behaviours on the job.
At the same time, leaders can also encourage psychological safety by giving a voice to minority perspectives regarding the work. It is also a great idea to create opportunities to share challenges and solutions to specific tasks and projects among employees.
3. Establish a code of conduct
The Ontario Human Rights Code “prohibits harassment (unwelcome vexatious comment or conduct) and other forms of discrimination that negatively impact individuals and groups in employment.”
Developing and enforcing a comprehensive code of conduct can show an employer’s commitment to keeping workplaces free from such conduct. The content should illustrate the benefits of living with differing views and ideologies. It should also distinguish between what constitutes respectful disagreement and comments that could be considered hateful, as well as those that would be more appropriate for private discourse.
B.C.’s office of the Human Rights Commissioner has produced a Q&A on what is considered hate speech that can be helpful as a resource.
4. Stay in the work lane
Given the current realities, some suggest that leaders should work to make workplaces as much of a neutral zone as possible by avoiding temptations to jump into polarizing debates. Limiting the politicization of the workplace can be good for employees, leaders and organizations. It can also help everyone enjoy work just a bit more.
