The 5th International Congress on Deuterium Depletion will be WAS held on 22-23 April 2026 in Budapest, Hungary. The conference program places the primary focus on advances in the research and clinical application of deuterium depletion, its present and future role in anticancer research and oncotherapy, diabetes research, mental diseases, physical performance, health preservation, and anti-aging.

• Shooting incident: President Donald Trump was rushed off stage unhurt at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, DC, after shots were fired. An attacker “armed with a shotgun, a handgun and multiple knives” charged through a security checkpoint, police said.
• Suspect in custody: Authorities have identified the suspect as Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old from California, three sources familiar with the matter told CNN. He will be charged with using a firearm during a crime of violence and assault on a federal officer using a dangerous weapon, US Attorney Jeanine Pirro said.
• FBI search: FBI agents assembled overnight outside a home linked to Allen in Torrance, a Los Angeles suburb. Police tape was put up along part of the street and a spotlight was shone on the property.
• Officer shot: A US Secret Service officer, who was shot in their protective gear has since been released from the hospital, according to USSS Chief of Communications Anthony Guglielmi.

Trump abruptly cancels Kushner-Witkoff Pakistan trip
President Donald Trump on Saturday abruptly canceled a planned trip by special envoy Steve Witkoff and the president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner to Pakistan, pulling back from what had been billed just a day earlier as a potential jump-start to fragile Iran talks.
“I just cancelled the trip of my representatives going is [to] Islamabad, Pakistan, to meet with the Iranians,” the president wrote on Truth Social.
“Too much time wasted on traveling, too much work! Besides which, there is tremendous infighting and confusion within their ‘leadership.’ Nobody knows who is in charge, including them. Also, we have all the cards, they have none! If they want to talk, all they have to do is call!!!”
The sudden reversal underscores the whiplash surrounding the administration’s diplomatic push in recent days — and Trump’s impatience with negotiations that aren’t quickly yielding results.
In a separate statement provided by the White House, Trump said the U.S. has “all the cards.”
“I’ve told my people a little while ago they were getting ready to leave, and I said, ‘Nope, you’re not making an 18 hour flight to go there,’” the president said. “We have all the cards. They can call us anytime they want, but you’re not going to be making any more 18 hour flights to sit around talking about nothing.”
It comes after Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, and his delegation left Islamabad after arriving Friday for talks with Pakistani leaders.
The trip to Islamabad had been assembled rapidly, with the White House on Friday signaling that Witkoff and Kushner would travel to Pakistan for indirect talks with Iranian officials, with Islamabad serving as an intermediary.
While speaking to reporters Saturday afternoon before boarding Air Force One in Florida, Trump said that Iran presented him with “a paper that should’ve been better,” adding that within 10 minutes of him canceling the trip, Tehran sent “a new paper that was much better.”
When asked what the new proposal contained, Trump said, “We talked about they will not have a nuclear weapon. Very simple. That whole deal is not complicated.”
The White House did not return requests for clarification on whether the president meant a new agreement was presented to him in which Iran would agree not to have nuclear weapons.
Vice President JD Vance was expected to join in Islamabad if the discussions showed signs of progress — a notable escalation after his own recent trip to Pakistan fizzled, with talks stalling over sequencing issues and neither side willing to make the first substantive concession.
That failed push has hung over the latest effort. Vance’s outreach had been aimed at converting a tenuous battlefield pause into something more durable, but it ended without even a framework for continued negotiations, underscoring how far apart Washington and Tehran remain.
The broader backdrop is a shaky ceasefire following weeks of U.S. strikes and Iranian retaliation — a pause that has held in practice but remains informal, with no written agreement, no verification mechanism and periodic flare-ups threatening to unravel it. Both sides have continued to signal openness to talks while simultaneously hardening their public positions, leaving intermediaries like Pakistan to carry much of the diplomatic load.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Friday that “we’ve certainly seen some progress from the Iranian side in the last couple of days.”
But the president’s cancellation Saturday signals a deal is far from being reached — and suggests the administration is again recalibrating after early diplomatic openings failed to produce quick results.

Mamdani's own Voters Sue to Block Homeless Shelter in their Neighborhood

East Village residents who handed New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani a 40-point victory are now hauling his administration into court to stop a building on their block from becoming a homeless shelter for adult men. The lawsuit, filed Monday in New York City Supreme Court, accuses the city of fast-tracking the project without proper environmental review or legal safeguards, and of leaning on an emergency declaration that was never meant for this purpose.
Ten residents joined the Village Organization for the Integrity of Community Engagement, known as VOICE, in the suit against the city. The building at the center of the fight sits at 8 East 3rd Street, which Mamdani's administration tapped earlier this year to serve as a citywide intake shelter for homeless adult men.
The irony was not lost on conservative commentators, or on anyone who watched Election District 45 deliver 70.1% of its vote to Mamdani, a self-described democratic socialist. Andrew Cuomo, running as an independent, managed just 26%. Now the same neighborhood that embraced Mamdani's progressive vision wants no part of its most concrete result.
What the lawsuit claims
The filing, reported by Fox News, lays out a straightforward argument: the city skipped the legal steps required before siting a facility of this scale in a residential neighborhood.
The complaint states:
"It challenges the city's hastily made and legally invalid decision to locate a new citywide homeless adult male intake center at 8 East 3rd Street without following any of the legal requirements that must precede such a significant and consequential decision."
Central to the residents' case is the administration's reliance on an emergency declaration from 2022, a power originally issued to handle the influx of asylum-seekers into New York City.
The complaint argues that stretching that declaration to cover a permanent-style shelter conversion years later is legally invalid. It is a telling detail: an emergency measure born from the border crisis is now being repurposed to bypass ordinary land-use rules in a Manhattan neighborhood.
The New York Supreme Court had not yet responded to requests for emergency relief that would pause the city's plans. The residents are asking the court to halt the project before the administration can move forward.
The Bellevue closure and the administration's plan
Mamdani announced the 8 East 3rd Street project as a way to accommodate the closure of the Bellevue Shelter, which the mayor's office said had deteriorated too far for continued use. A press release from the administration outlined the next steps.
The mayor's office stated:
"The Department of Social Services (DSS) and Department of Homeless Services (DHS) will immediately implement an operational plan to vacate 30th Street and relocate the critical functions to other sites. There are approximately 250 individuals in the shelter and the DSS is working to relocate these individuals by mid-March."
A second accommodation site at 333 Bowery Street would open beginning May 1 to house families without minor children, the administration said. The scope of the plan, relocating 250 people, opening multiple new sites, converting buildings in dense residential areas, helps explain why residents felt blindsided.
Mamdani's track record on housing and homelessness has drawn scrutiny well beyond this lawsuit. His first 100 days in office produced a trail of unmet promises on both fronts, raising questions about whether the administration can manage the logistics of its own ambitions.
Social media piles on
The lawsuit drew immediate reaction online, with conservative figures highlighting the gap between the neighborhood's progressive voting habits and its resistance to progressive policy outcomes.
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, posted a single word on X: "Oops." Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., was equally succinct: "Not shocked."
Michael Henry, a former New York attorney general candidate, offered the sharpest assessment. He wrote on social media:
"No one is more 'not in my backyard' than white progressives. This community voted for Mamdani in a landslide but don't want to live with the consequences."
Henry's observation cuts to the heart of a pattern familiar to anyone who watches urban progressive politics. The voters who champion expansive government programs, generous social services, and open-ended emergency declarations tend to assume the costs will land somewhere else, in someone else's neighborhood, on someone else's block, outside someone else's window.
A pattern of contradictions
This is not the first time Mamdani's political base has shown signs of strain. The mayor has faced criticism for promoting new taxes outside a billionaire's Manhattan penthouse, a stunt that drew backlash even from sympathetic quarters.
His broader agenda, built on the promise that democratic socialism can work in a city of eight million, has stalled on multiple fronts. Mamdani has publicly insisted that his model can flourish anywhere, but the gap between rhetoric and results keeps widening.
The East Village lawsuit is a particularly vivid illustration. These are not Republican voters or outer-borough moderates pushing back. These are the mayor's own people, residents of a district that gave him a dominant margin, filing suit in state court to stop his administration from doing exactly what his ideology demands.
The complaint's focus on the 2022 emergency declaration deserves special attention. That declaration was issued to address the surge of asylum-seekers entering New York City. Using it years later to site a homeless men's intake center in a residential neighborhood raises a legitimate legal question: at what point does an "emergency" power become a permanent workaround for the rules that govern land use, environmental review, and community input?
If the city can invoke a three-year-old asylum-seeker emergency to bypass normal process for a homeless shelter, what can't it bypass? The residents filing this suit seem to understand the stakes, even if their voting record suggests they didn't think those stakes would ever apply to their own street.
The broader fractures within left-wing coalitions are not limited to New York housing fights. Across the country, progressive movements have struggled to hold together when the consequences of their own policies arrive at the doorstep. Recent protests tied to socialist and far-left causes have exposed deep tensions between ideological ambition and practical reality.
What happens next
The court has not yet acted on the emergency relief request. If a judge grants the pause, the administration's timeline for relocating the 250 Bellevue residents and opening the new intake site would be thrown into uncertainty. If the court declines, East Village residents will have to live with the facility they voted to empower, whether they realized it at the time or not.
Mamdani's office has also said it would dismiss concerns about residents fleeing the city over tax and quality-of-life issues, calling the idea fiction. But lawsuits from your own voters are hard to dismiss as fiction. They are filed in court, with names attached, and they tend to mean exactly what they say.
Progressive voters love the idea of generous government, right up until it moves in next door. That's not hypocrisy the courts can fix.

If you had time to read my 10 page document about The Yoke which I sent out Tuesday at 10:45 pm - congratulations, your card is in the mail. Seriously, it took me ten years to pull it together, so I don't mind waiting another ten for you to appreciate it.
If you read it now, you'll see that I made a big deal about us being yoked together in Jesus. More than that, I prophesied that we are due for a new yoke, and "the fire of the Spirit within you must be fanned to turn My living water into steam to bend the wood." (Read the whole prophecy on page 2 in the ATTACHED document.)
Well, praise the Lord, Joseph Z wrote basically the same message on his white board on Thursday! It starts after the 15 minute mark.
We older Christians are the "burnt stones" or "old oak trees", and God wants to Retrofit us to the Young Lions or Redwoods, to create "Red Oaks".
More than that, Z says God has a surprise for us in the promise of a Hidden Tree a Redwood called Hyperion (a rare giant species that can grow taller than the Statue of Liberty, no less than 380 feet).
Z uses the example of how two oxen yoked together can pull more than double the load, they can pull ten times the load! "That is what this giant tree represents."
He goes on to say how all Christians must pull together to achieve this and stop fighting over their differences. This confirms what I wrote about the Five Stages of Becoming Yoked Together.
The Church is entering the Perfume stage with the fire of Passion added to the fire of the Spirit. Much like Pentecost revisited the moment Jesus breathed on his disciples and said, “Receive ye the Spirit”. Much like we revisit our birth when we are “born again”. Much like we can revisit Calvary when we attend Holy Communion. God is removing the walls which have divided us in the past as we revisit our origins and recapture the vision Christ had in his prayer “that they may be one”. He is sending his angels to bind the wheat together
After the 30 minute mark Z confirms other things that Don and I have written about in our little book Church - Coming of Age. Suffice it to say that we need to make the best of the next three years in order to be strong enough to push back on the birth pain that must precede an age of Grace. Z calls this pain a "barrier" we must lean into for a "12th hour" victory over Satan.
