Trump Just Pulled Off The ONE Bombshell Dems Said He Never Could:
A prominent talking point among Democrats has been the claim that President Donald Trump would destroy the U.S. economy, but new data challenges this narrative.
A report released Friday revealed that Trump has not only significantly slowed the growth of the national debt by an impressive 92 percent, but he has also reduced the total debt since his Inauguration Day, according to The Washington Examiner.
The data showed that from January 22 to May 6, the national debt held by the public grew by approximately $37 billion.
In comparison, during the same period last year under former President Joe Biden, the national debt increased by more than $478 billion.
This comes amid growing concern among Democrats and some media outlets who have adopted a “sky is falling” stance regarding the international reaction to the president’s tariff policies.
However, there has been positive news regarding tariffs for the administration.
U.S. and Chinese officials are continuing discussions about tariffs, but China has already made some concessions, possibly signaling a shift in their stance or an implicit acknowledgment that the Trump administration is focusing on China.
Recent reports indicate that about a quarter of all U.S. imports to China have been exempted from the 125% tariff, amounting to $40 billion worth of American-made goods that will now enter China without the steep surtax.
This decision comes as Beijing tries to mitigate the economic damage caused by Trump’s 145% tariff on Chinese goods.
Exempted items include pharmaceuticals and industrial chemicals.
Trade specialists told Bloomberg that Chinese President Xi Jinping’s policy change to align with Washington’s actions is more strategic than conciliatory. However, it remains unclear whether this shift was prompted by the White House.
On Friday, Xi’s spokesperson stated that Chinese officials are “evaluating” the latest trade offer from the Trump administration, signaling a potential shift in tone that could lead to prolonged talks over a historic revision of the U.S.-China trade imbalance.
“The U.S. has recently taken the initiative on many occasions to convey information to China through relevant parties, saying it hopes to talk with China,” Reuters reported.
Nevertheless, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce cautioned that it would not be forced into a bad deal, stating, “attempting to use talks as a pretext to engage in coercion and extortion would not work.”
On Thursday, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo that he believes Chinese officials are ready to strike a deal, following weeks of heavy tariffs that could soon result in the loss of between five and ten million jobs in China’s economy.
“I am confident that the Chinese will want to reach a deal. And as I said, this is going to be a multi-step process. First, we need to de-escalate. And then over time, we will start focusing on a larger trade deal,” Bessent said.
Both countries have agreed to exempt certain product categories. For instance, China has recently made an exception for ethanol imports, underscoring the fuel’s critical importance to its economy.
The tone from Xi marks a significant shift from the aggressive rhetoric of a speech delivered by Chinese U.N. Ambassador Fu Cong last month at a U.N. Security Council meeting titled “The Impact of Unilateralism and Bullying Practices on International Relations.”
“Under the guise of reciprocity and fairness, the U.S. is playing a zero-sum game, which is essentially about subverting the existing international economic and trade order by means of tariffs, putting U.S. interests above the common good of the international community and advancing hegemonic ambitions of the U.S. at the cost of the legitimate interest of all countries,” Chinese U.N. Ambassador Fu Cong said in his opening remarks, as reported by Fox News.

Wanted: Fewer, better employees doing more with less...
For decades, Silicon Valley has suffered from a shortage of technical talent. This place is a software-production engine, and smart, young, hungry engineers have been its main fuel source. They work night and day, churning out code for websites, apps, search engines, social networks, and more.
The companies that won recruited and retained the best talent. The result was a race to lavish employees with juicy salaries and huge stock awards. Perks were plenty: free massages, laundry service, and delicious food served on cushy campuses.
Like all powerful trends, though, this is ending. Don’t get me wrong. Tech companies are still hiring a lot of software engineers, and compensation is holding up so far. But the intensity, borne out of this talent supply-demand mismatch, is waning.
The COVID-era tech hiring boom is partially to blame. Companies want fewer, better employees now.
Generative AI is another big factor. Turns out, AI models are really good at writing and checking software code, changing the power dynamic between Big Tech and employees. It’s the topic of a story by BI reporters Eugene Kim and Hugh Langley.
David Sacks, a venture capitalist who advises the White House on AI, puts it well. “The ramifications of moving from a world of code scarcity to code abundance are profound,” he wrote on X recently.
There'll be A LOT more code, and way more software products that are updated and improved quicker, changing how developers work. Eugene’s exclusive on Amazon’s secret AI coding project, called Kiro, is a good example. “With Kiro, developers read less but comprehend more, code less but build more, and review less but release more,” the company wrote in an internal document.
Here's another, more disruptive, potential outcome: Everyone can become a developer. In the past, if you wanted something technical done, you had to ask your well-paid, overworked engineering colleagues for help. Now, with AI tools, maybe you can do some of this yourself. Cursor, Vercel, Replit, and Bolt.new are just a few of the new low- or zero-code AI-powered services that help users solve problems with plain English instructions.
All of that means the pool of available developers is likely to grow massively, and Big Tech companies will have to do a lot less talent-chasing.

Trump Hails 'Total Reset' in US-China Trade Relations as Talks Continue:

US President Donald Trump hailed a "total reset" in US-China trade relations, ahead of a second day of talks Sunday between top officials from Washington and Beijing aimed at de-escalating trade tensions sparked by his aggressive tariff rollout.
In a Truth Social post early Sunday, Trump praised the "very good" discussions and deemed them "a total reset negotiated in a friendly, but constructive, manner."
The second day of closed-door meetings between US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng are due to restart in the morning, according to an individual familiar with the talks who was not authorized to speak publicly.
"These talks reflect that the current state of the trade relations with these extremely high tariffs is ultimately in the interests of neither the United States nor China," Citigroup global chief economist Nathan Sheets told AFP, calling the tariffs a "lose-lose proposition."
The discussions are the first time senior officials from the world's two largest economies have met face-to-face to tackle the thorny topic of trade since Trump slapped steep new levies on China last month, sparking robust retaliation from Beijing.
The levies imposed by Trump on the Asian manufacturing giant since the start of the year currently total 145 percent, with cumulative US duties on some Chinese goods reaching a staggering 245 percent.
In retaliation, China put 125 percent tariffs on US goods, cementing what appears to be a near trade embargo between the two countries.
Ahead of the meeting, Trump signaled he might lower the tariffs, suggesting on social media that an "80% Tariff on China seems right!"
However, his press secretary Karoline Leavitt later clarified that the United States would not lower tariffs unilaterally, and that China would also need to make concessions.
- 'An important step' -
The first day of negotiations occurred Saturday at the residence of the Swiss ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, a discrete villa with sky blue shutters near a large park on the left bank of Lake Geneva.
Going into the meeting, both sides played down expectations of a major change in trade relations, with Bessent underlining a focus on "de-escalation" and not a "big trade deal," and Beijing insisting the United States must ease tariffs first.
A commentary published by China's state news agency Xinhua called the talks "an important step in promoting the resolution of the issue."
The fact the talks are even happening "is good news for business, and for the financial markets," said Gary Hufbauer, a senior non-resident fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics (PIIE).
But Hufbauer cautioned he was "very skeptical that there will be any return to something like normal US-China trade relations," with even a tariff rate of 70 to 80 percent still potentially halving bilateral trade.
- China 'better-equipped' -
China's vice premier went into the discussions buoyed by Friday's news that China's exports rose last month despite the trade war.
The unexpected development was attributed by experts to a re-routing of trade to Southeast Asia to mitigate US tariffs.
Among some of the more moderate Trump officials like Bessent and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, "there's a realization that China is better equipped to deal with this trade war than the US," said Hufbauer.
The Geneva meeting comes after Trump unveiled a trade agreement with Britain, the first deal with any country since he unleashed his blitz of global tariffs.
The five-page, non-binding deal confirmed to nervous investors that the United States is willing to negotiate sector-specific relief from recent duties, but maintained a 10 percent baseline levy on most British goods.
Following the US-UK trade announcement, analysts have voiced pessimism about the likelihood negotiations will lead to any significant changes in the US-China trade relationship.
"It's nice that they're talking. But my expectations for the actual outcomes of this first round of talks is pretty limited," Sheets from Citigroup said.
"I think it's quite possible they'll walk away from Geneva saying how constructive and productive the talks were, but not actually reducing tariffs at all," Hufbauer said.
In his Truth Social post, Trump said the talks had made "GREAT PROGRESS!!"
"We want to see, for the good of both China and the U.S., an opening up of China to American business," he added.

Musk defends his work as he prepares to wind down at DOGE but gives hazy answers on future:
WASHINGTON (AP) — Elon Musk, preparing to step back from his work leading the Department of Government Efficiency [DOGE], had a request of the reporters gathered at the White House to interview him: Before he would answer any questions, he wanted someone to tell him a joke.
The tech billionaire’s request in the Roosevelt Room on Wednesday underscored the surreal and idiosyncratic presence of the world’s richest man at the highest echelons of American power. Over the past few months, his work of downsizing the workforce has sent shocks through the federal government and drawn intense pushback, including protests of his electric vehicle company, Tesla.
Musing about his and DOGE’s incongruous role in the U.S. government, he said, “It is funny that we’ve got DOGE."
“Doesn't the absurdity of that seem, like, like, are we in a simulation here or what’s going on? But, like, it was a meme coin at one point," he said, laughing. "How did we get here?”
Musk, clad in all black but missing the two hats he had worn at Wednesday's earlier Cabinet meeting, defended DOGE's work as he prepares to scale back his government role and spend more time at his businesses. But he gave hazy answers about the work he’d been doing and DOGE’s future, and he seemed taken aback by the intense backlash he’d encountered.
“Being attacked relentlessly is not super fun," he said. “Seeing cars burning is not fun,” he added, referring to the instances of Tesla cars being smashed or set on fire.
“In the grand scheme of things, I think we’ve been effective. Not as effective as I’d like. I think we could be more effective,” Musk said. “But we’ve made progress.”
DOGE's large-scale slashings have been met with dozens of lawsuits. DOGE's attempts to access sensitive government information, including Social Security data, has similarly met resistance in court. And Democrats this week unveiled an online tracker tallying the federal funds approved by Congress that DOGE has blocked, setting up a constitutional struggle between two branches of government.
Musk wouldn’t offer examples of anything he’d do differently, though DOGE is nowhere near its original savings goal and has overstated its progress.
DOGE had sought to cut spending by $1 trillion. Musk estimates he’s cut $160 billion so far and acknowledged it would be hard to get anywhere close to $1 trillion.
"It's sort of, how much pain is the Cabinet and the Congress willing to take?" Musk said. “It can be done, but it requires dealing with a lot of complaints.”
Musk didn't detail any of those complaints and said he has a good relationship with President Donald Trump's Cabinet. But when asked about clashes with certain members, particularly Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Musk said, “at times, there will be some disagreements with the Cabinet.”
He defended DOGE’s attempts to access Americans' personal data, dismissing concerns about a potential “surveillance state” by quipping, “Don’t we already have a surveillance state?” He said DOGE needs to access the systems in its hunt for fraud, and said, “There has to be some way to reconcile the improper payments.”
He said DOGE has referred cases of suspected fraud to the Justice Department, though he offered few details, including how many referrals were made. Antonio Gracias, a Musk investor working for DOGE, pointed to the indictment last week of an Iraqi man living in New York on charges he illegally voted in the 2020 election. U.S. prosecutors said DOGE assisted in the investigation.
A Justice Department spokesperson said DOGE “is working closely with DOJ to identify potential fraud."
Musk acknowledged there were some instances in which they had to restore the jobs of government workers who, in his words, were “accidently let go,” like “some people that were doing important regulatory work or taking care of national parks.”
When asked if he’s found any areas where he’d recommended efficiencies beyond cuts, Musk veered into the nation's military strategy and said he has repeatedly recommended to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth that he should be spending more money on hypersonic missiles and long-range drones instead of on crewed systems.
Musk said DOGE is also working on improving connectivity for the nation’s air traffic control system and reviewing plans to improve its software, but DOGE’s primary goal is “trying to stop wasteful and fraudulent spending."
But on other points, he was vague.
Who will lead DOGE when he leaves?
“DOGE is a way of life,” he said. “Like Buddhism.”
Will he retain the title of senior adviser to the president?
“I guess.”
Will DOGE wrap up its work by July 2026, as originally stated?
“If the president wants us to stick to that date, we'll stick to that date.”
How many of the roughly 100 DOGE employees will stay on the job while he winds down?
“Some will stay on. Some will not. So it's up to them. This is basically a volunteer organization.”
Is DOGE winding down?
“No, I think it will gain momentum.”
Musk struck up a friendship with Trump during the 2024 campaign and spent nearly $300 million on the election — the bulk of which went toward helping the Republican reclaim the White House. He has since become a constant presence with Trump for much of the first 100 days of the administration, regularly traveling with the president to his home in Florida on the weekends.
Musk said Wednesday that he was working on DOGE seven days a week during the first months of the administration, at times sleeping in the Lincoln Bedroom at Trump’s invitation.
He declined to say just how many times he had slept at the White House but said the president had implored him to try the caramel ice cream from the kitchen.
“Don’t tell RFK,” Musk joked, referring to Trump’s Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Musk described it as an “intense period” during which he was trying to understand and map out the federal government.
“It’s a startup, effectively. A new administration is like a startup,” he said.
But he said he is now scaling back his work on DOGE, spending one to two days a week on it, and he plans to be in Washington less.
“Now we’re getting more of a rhythm so the amount of time that’s necessary for me to spend here is much less," he said.
He also pointed to the limitation on his status as a special government employee, which means he can only work 130 days in a 365-day time period.
He said he will keep his “tiny” office on the second floor of the West Wing that he said has “a view of nothing” — a feature, he then remarked, that keeps him safe.
“It’s harder to shoot me,” he said. “There's not a good line of sight.”
