This full-page story in Saturday's paper is full of faulty logic. Here's the problem:
Violence, including verbal abuse, in Thames Valley District board schools has “gone up exponentially” in the last year, with anywhere from 400 to 800 incidents a month, Craig Smith, head of the local public elementary school teachers’ union, has said.
“Spending all that time with their parents, combined with attachment and relationship difficulties, led to an increase in aggression,” she said.
If that were true, how come our homeschoolers have no problems with violent kids? How come schools in Russia and China have no problems with violence in the classrooms? (They also had lockdowns during the pandemic.)
I think our educators need a better education in traditional psychology. Forget all the progressive courses that confuse and divide people instead of uniting them. Our homeschoolers teach the fifth commandment to "honour your parents". Russians teach traditional values both at home and school. Even half-Christian half-Communist China comes from a culture of Honouring parents, and grandparents, right up to the point where ancestors are almost like gods.
A separate article in the same paper reports that the schools won't let local police back in schools to befriend and help students while they keep an eye on potential problems. New Canadians say it's too intimidating! Uh... yes, hopefully it would be intimidating for disruptive or potentially violent kids. As for reminding them of nasty police force back in their country of origin; well, what better way to learn how different our cops are? The same people who don't want cops to appear say it's good to bring in drag queens to help kids get over fears of touching queers.

After forcing asylum officers, along the southern border, to work both weekend days to deal with the migrant surge post Title 42 public health order, a disconnected and privileged President Joe Biden will spend the weekend at his beach home in Rehoboth, Delaware. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre, announced on Friday, that on Saturday morning, the president will deliver the Howard University commencement address in Washington, D.C.

On Friday, according to a Fox News report, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is forcing asylum officers to work through the weekend in an effort to deal with the surge of migrants at the southern border seeking to claim asylum.
In a memo sent by Ted Kim, Associate director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Refugee, Asylum and International Operations (RAIO), it stated that employees had been informed Thursday of the need for them to work at least one day over the weekend. It has been since changed to say-
"Developments emerging over the course of the day made clear that more resources are needed, and we must take immediate steps to increase the number of staff available on both Saturday and Sunday to meet the need," …"In order to ensure full operational readiness, I must now ask that all Asylum Division employees, with limited exception, work both Saturday and Sunday this weekend,"
Apparently, the only positions exempted will be those who do not provide direct support to the "credible fear" process. This is the segment, in which migrants seeking to claim asylum first establish that they have a credible fear of persecution if returned to their home country.
Encountering over 10,000 migrants a day for at least three days this week so far, Border Patrol agents, have faced multiple sectors at overcapacity. This is all while Biden naps in his beach chair. This president is so disconnected from reality. That he can ask those who work at the border to give up their weekends while he sips tea at the beach is beyond believable. It’s not like he has to write his own speech for the commencement at Howard University – he just has to read it without stumbling over the words.

In a decision hailed as a win for transparency by the lawyer representing the plaintiffs (the parents of a child injured by a COVID-19 vaccine) in a lawsuit (pdf) against the FDA, the Texas judge ordered the FDA to produce the data about ten times faster than the agency wanted.
“Democracy dies behind closed doors,” is how U.S. District Judge Mark Pittman opened his order (pdf), issued on May 9, which requires the FDA to produce the data on Moderna’s and Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccines at an average rate of at least 180,000 pages per month.
The FDA had argued it would be “impractical” to release the estimated 4.8 million pages at more than between 1,000 and 16,000 pages per month, which would have taken at least 23.5 years.
Aaron Siri of Siri & Glimstad, who represents the plaintiffs in the legal action against the FDA, called the decision “another blow for transparency and accountability” that builds on an earlier court order targeting Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine data for those aged 16 and older.
The January 2022 order (pdf), also issued by Pittman, forced the FDA to produce all its data on Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for those aged 16 and older at a rate of 55,000 pages per month, or much faster than the 75 years the agency had sought.
“That production should be completed in a few more months,” Siri said in a statement, referring to the earlier Pfizer data for those aged 16 and up.
The latest order requires the FDA to produce all of its data on Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for 12- to 15-year-olds (and Moderna’s product for adults) by June 31, 2025.
The FDA did not immediately return a request for comment by The Epoch Times.
‘Stale Information Is of Little Value’
While the judge noted in his order that the court recognizes the FDA’s limited resources dedicated to freedom of information requests (FOIA), he argued that “the number of resources an agency dedicates to such requests does not dictate the bounds of an individual’s FOIA rights.”
“Instead, the Court must ensure that the fullest possible disclosure of the information sought is timely provided—as ‘stale information is of little value,'” Pittman wrote.
In order to ensure the FDA can meet the accelerated deadline—so around ten times faster than the agency wanted—the judge ordered the parties to the lawsuit to confer and submit a joint production schedule for the data by May 23, 2023.
In the earlier case adjudicated by Pittman, the FDA had argued it only had the bandwidth to review and release around 500 pages per month of an estimated total 450,000 pages of material about the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for those aged 16 and older.
The FDA has not disputed in either case that it has an obligation to make the information public but it has argued that its short-staffed FOIA office could not meet the pace of production sought by the plaintiffs.
The judge disagreed, arguing in both cases that the imperatives of transparency and accountability are of paramount importance.
In the January order, Pittman said that too much foot-dragging and secrecy on the part of federal agencies feeds conspiracy theories and reduces the public’s trust in government.
Confidence in the FDA over COVID-19 vaccine approvals was shaken by the disclosure that regulators sped up the approval of Pfizer’s vaccine.
Republicans on the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic in March announced they were seeking answers after recently released emails indicated that the FDA rushed the approval of COVID-19 vaccines and boosters to accommodate vaccine mandates.
