Sunday 6 – 4 - 23

Verse(s) for today:

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Galatians 5:22-23 KJV

Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

Joshua 1:9 KJV

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

Colossians 3:1 KJV

Thought(s) for the Day:

The Sky’s the limit! Anti-lockdown proponent Chris Sky kicks off his mayoralty campaign:

Sky believes something fishy is going on regarding the number of Torontonians who are eligible to vote in the June 26 by-election.

The scene was a joyous one in east end Toronto last Saturday when Chris Sky (a.k.a., Saccoccia) kicked off his mayoralty campaign. Under a gorgeous sunny sky, a bouncy castle rocked with youngsters (thankfully, the Ottawa Police Service was not informed); burgers and hot dogs sizzled on a barbecue; live music blared and an ice cream truck distributed frosty treat(s).

It was a downright festive occasion, even though Chris Sky is in a feisty mood these days. For example, mainstream media has shunned covering his mayoralty campaign. He has not been invited to any of the debates. And after doing a little research, Sky believes something fishy is going on regarding the number of Torontonians who are eligible to vote in the June 26 by-election.

Case in point: there are almost 1.9 million eligible voters in Hogtown, which is an increase of about 300,000 voters compared to October 2022 when the last municipal election took place. During an interview, Sky said he’s concerned that shenanigans are already afoot to make sure an establishment candidate wins the election given the unexplained uptick in voters. Sky also took the opportunity to bash the integrity of the polling firms that have pegged leftist Olivia Chow as the prohibitive favourite.

And Sky didn’t hold back on his disdain for John Tory. During COVID-19, the disgraced ex-Mayor of Toronto made people’s lives miserable in the name of “safety.” Social distancing circles were spray-painted upon parkland; masking was enforced; ma & pa shops were forcibly shut down (while it was business as usual at the big box stores); and vaccination was strongly encouraged. And yet, all the while, His “Dishonour” was engaged in horizontal jogging with a female staffer at City Hall! Talk about chutzpah; talk about hypocrisy.

With 102 candidates vying for the city’s top job, this mayoralty election is like none other before. And Sky remains a very polarizing candidate indeed. A quick glance at the Twitter verse indicates that people either love or loathe Chris Sky.

Examples: Bill writes: “He [Sky], like others, is a hustler, interested in his own self interests.”

On the flip side, so many others are huge fans of Sky. Robert Bergeron writes: “Thanks Chris we love you.” Val Anne writes: “God bless Chris Sky.”

We shall find out in less than a month if Chris Sky has more fans than haters – and whether that number of fans is of a sufficient magnitude to get him into the mayor’s seat. Stay tuned.

Disney goes to hell… Baptize - ring the bell:

#1."What would Walt do?" Disney executives need to think about that before moving forward. In this week's commentary, Gary Lane examines the corporate takeover of American culture. "We can't just wave a magic wand like the fairy godmother in Cinderella and say "bibbidi bobbidi boo," and poof, Disney, and other woke corporations will return to the way they were twenty years ago, only selling their products and services. Those days are gone."

Federal judge temporarily blocks some enforcement of ATF pistol brace rule:

In a defeat – at least a temporary one – for gun control advocates at the White House, a federal judge has halted enforcement of new administration regulations on firearms equipped with stabilizing braces as applied to certain categories of owners, as Fox News reports.

A preliminary injunction was granted Wednesday by Judge Drew Tipton that partially bars the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) from taking action to enforce a rule requiring individual owners to register the aforementioned pistol braces with the agency, destroy them, or detach them from the weapons themselves.

According to the terms of the rule, those who failed to achieve compliance with the rule by May 31 would be subject to a fee, upwards of 10 years in prison, and/or a fine of up to $10,000.

Fox News notes that the rule was promulgated by the Biden administration in the spring of 2021, following a mass shooting at a Colorado grocery store in which a firearm equipped with such a brace was used.

In support of the supposed need for such a rule, the administration also pointed to the fact that a stabilizing brace was also used in a deadly 2019 mass shooting that took place in Ohio.

Standing in opposition to the rule have been gun rights advocates who contend that the ATF rule runs counter to constitutional protections in that it mandates gun registration for millions of owners of legal weapons and makes failure to do so an instant felony.

Republicans in Congress have taken aim at the rule, with Reps. Thomas Massie (R-NC) and Jim Jordan (R-OH) telling ATF Director Steven Dettelbach earlier this year, “We are concerned that your agency's new Stabilizing Brace Rule and enforcement thereof will result in millions of Americans becoming classified as felons overnight without them having any intent or having taken any action to break the law,” as Fox News noted separately.

“The Founders designed our constitutional structure to have three distinct branches,” the legislators wrote. “The branch tasked with making laws should not be the same branch tasked with enforcing those laws. Congress must be responsible for making laws, and we do not believe the ATF has the authority to enact the Stabilizing Brace Rule.”

Blasting what they viewed as the agency's imprecise and perhaps erroneous classification of weapons that would fall under the rule, the congressmen added that regardless of whether the ATF had the right to make the rule, “the executive branch has a duty to be transparent with Americans about their classifications of unlawful conduct” and as such, Dettelbach needed to “provide the public with a clear interpretation of the parameters of the rule.”

For now, as a result of Tipton’s ruling, the injunction preventing enforcement will apply to members of the Gun Owners of America GOA) as well as direct employees of the state of Texas, the discrete parties involved in the instant litigation. Among those particularly pleased with this week’s ruling was Erich Pratt, senior vice president of GOA.

Pratt stated, “This assault on millions of Americans was just the latest example of President Biden trying to weaponize the [Justice Department] against law-abiding gun owners, and we doubt it will be the last.”

The pro-second amendment advocate continued, “We are incredibly grateful to Judge Tipton for hearing the pleas of our members who were facing serious prosecution simply for owning a piece of plastic – all because of an arbitrary reclassification by the ATF.”

Pratt further vowed to “continue to fight back against this rogue anti-gun administration at every turn in defense of our rights,” and whether he and his allies are ultimately successful in doing away with this particular instance of Biden overreach, only time will tell.

DeSantis rips Biden during Iowa speech over hurting families:

GOP presidential candidate Ron DeSantis ripped President Joe Biden during his first speech in Iowa this week.

He addressed a variety of issues in a Des Moines church, including the president's harm to the nation's families.

The comments

“Biden is deliberately trying to kneecap our energy production,” he said. “And he’s trying to force Americans into electric vehicles, which will make us more reliant on China who provides most of the materials for the batteries.”

“Restoring sanity means we can’t have every major institution in our country going on ideological joy rides, we have to be guided by reality, by facts and by our enduring principles,” he said. “Merit must trump identity politics.”

Basement Biden

DeSantis also pushed his Great American Comeback theme that was launched with his campaign's kickoff last week.

"Our Great American Comeback starts by sending Joe Biden back to his basement in Delaware," he said.

DeSantis currently ranks second in the latest National Republican Primary poll from Morning Consult with 22% in contrast with former President Donald Trump's 56%.

The position is both a blessing and a problem. He ranks as the only other candidate in double-digits with Trump but also trails by 34 points.

The governor's Iowa trip hopes to introduce his personality and policies to the state's GOP voters in the first primary state in a location that could set a trend for the states that follow.

In some ways, DeSantis is a more favorable candidate with a chance to pull in undecided voters, independents and never-Trumpers in the general election. However, he will first have to win in enough primary states to earn the nomination in what is currently a massive challenge for any GOP opponent to Trump.

The Florida governor is making the uphill battle as the nation will soon see DeSantis and other Republican candidates join in debates to bring more attention to next year's early primary elections in what promises to be a strong 2024 GOP battle. [The American Digest]
