BC Conservatives say 'professionally incapacitated' Rustad Removed as leader,

[However, He will ‘Not’ Step Down]

VICTORIA — The B.C. Conservative Party says John Rustad has been "removed" as leader of the Opposition, and a caucus vote has installed MLA Trevor Halford as interim leader.


The announcement comes after 20 MLAs representing a majority of Rustad's caucus said they had lost confidence in him and wanted him out, but he refused to resign and said there was no way they could remove him.


Rustad cited the party constitution, which says a leader can only be removed by resignation, death, incapacitation or a leadership review.


But the party says in a news release that its board of directors decided Rustad is "professionally incapacitated" and "unable to continue" as leader of the party.

It says the party "respects the democratic will" of the majority of the caucus.


The announcement comes after lawyer Bruce Hallsor wrote to party president Aisha Estey saying he had letters from the 20 MLAs calling for Rustad's removal.

Antifa attacked Guillaume again. He was bloodied and sent to the hospital for stitches.

What happened this weekend to Alexa Lavoie and her cameraman, Guillaume Roy, should never happen to any journalist in a free country.


But this is Canada in 2025 — where Antifa extremists now feel bold enough to literally attack reporters on the street for daring to shine a spotlight on their radical extremism.

On Saturday in downtown Montreal, Guillaume was violently ambushed from behind. A masked thug crept up, grabbed the handle of his backpack, and yanked him backwards onto the pavement. It was a cowardly, premeditated assault.


The impact tore open Guillaume’s arm. He was bleeding, taken for emergency treatment, and received four stitches at the hospital.

And while Guillaume was being attacked, dozens of far-left demonstrators swarmed Alexa, screaming obscenities, boxing her in, and trying everything they could to stop her from reporting. One man — pushing a stroller with his toddler inside — even approached and raised his arm to strike Alexa before our security intervened.


This wasn’t an isolated incident. It was the latest in a string of escalating violent attacks. Just last week, also in Montreal, two masked men followed our Quebec team, and one of them assaulted Guillaume in full view of the police.

They want to break us. They want to frighten Alexa into silence. They want to make independent journalism impossible.


But you and I both know Alexa — she’s fearless, determined, and absolutely committed to exposing what Antifa is doing across this country. She has become the target because she is the only journalist consistently telling the truth about these extremists.

We will not be intimidated — but I need your help.


Our journalists should not require bodyguards, protective gear, monitored alarm systems, and a team of lawyers just to do their jobs safely. But this is the reality now. None of this is optional anymore.

Alexa and Guillaume are being targeted precisely because they are the only reporters willing to stand on the front line — calmly, professionally, relentlessly — as Antifa attempts to intimidate us into silence.

Trump Grants Pardon to TX Democrat Rep. Henry Cuellar & Wife in Federal Case


President Donald Trump just dropped a bombshell by pardoning a Democratic congressman, proving once again that he’s willing to cross party lines to fight what he sees as a rigged system.


Trump announced on social media Wednesday that he had pardoned Texas Rep. Henry Cuellar and his wife, Imelda, in a federal bribery and conspiracy case, alleging the prosecution was a political hit job tied to Cuellar’s outspoken criticism of the Biden administration’s border policies, as the Associated Press reports.

Cuellar, a moderate Democrat who has represented a Texas-Mexico border district for over two decades, isn’t your typical party-line voter. He’s broken ranks on hot-button issues like immigration and firearms, often clashing with progressive priorities. And let’s be honest, in today’s hyper-partisan climate, that kind of independence can paint a target on your back.


Cuellar’s Clash with Biden’s Border Approach

One of Cuellar’s biggest gripes has been with the current administration’s handling of the migrant surge at the southern border. He’s been among the loudest Democratic voices calling out the record numbers of unauthorized crossings, a stance that’s put him at odds with party leadership. If you ask conservatives, that’s just common sense, not a crime.


Federal authorities, however, had a different take, charging Cuellar and his wife with accepting thousands in payments to push the interests of an Azerbaijan-linked energy firm and a Mexican bank. Specifically, they accused the congressman of agreeing to sway legislation in Azerbaijan’s favor and even deliver a supportive speech on the House floor. That’s a serious allegation, but Cuellar has maintained his innocence from the get-go.


The trial for the couple was set to kick off in April next year, but Trump’s pardon has slammed the brakes on that process. For critics of the justice system, this move smells like yet another example of political weaponization against those who dare to dissent. After all, why target a border-state Democrat who has been sounding the alarm on lax policies?


Trump’s Take on a ‘Weaponized’ System

Trump didn’t mince words on social media, claiming the Biden administration went after Cuellar “simply for speaking the TRUTH” about border security failures. That’s a bold accusation, and while no hard evidence was presented, it resonates with many who feel the justice system is increasingly a tool for silencing opposition. If you’re skeptical of unchecked power, this narrative hits home.


“Henry, I don’t know you, but you can sleep well tonight,” Trump added in his post. “Your nightmare is finally over!” Well, that’s a mic drop if there ever was one, though skeptics might wonder if this pardon is more about sticking it to the establishment than pure altruism.


Cuellar’s track record adds layers to this story, as he’s one of the last Democrats in Congress to oppose abortion rights, another issue where he’s bucked the progressive agenda. That’s not exactly a resume that endears you to the left-wing base, which might explain why some see him as a convenient scapegoat. It’s politics, after all -- rarely a game of fairness.


Parallels with Other Trump Pardons Emerge

Trump’s decision isn’t a standalone act; earlier this year, he pardoned former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich in a corruption case, years after commuting his sentence. Both moves signal a pattern of challenging what Trump views as overreach by federal prosecutors. For supporters, it’s about restoring balance; for critics, it’s just favouritism.


Then there’s the curious case of New York City Mayor Eric Adams, another Democrat critical of Biden’s immigration stance, who faced federal corruption charges. Trump didn’t pardon Adams, but after taking office, the Justice Department—under influence from a top official tied to Trump -- moved to drop the case once Adams started cooperating with the Republican administration on border issues. Coincidence or calculated strategy? You decide.


Back to Cuellar, his border district perspective gives weight to his critiques of open-border policies, a term Trump himself used when praising the congressman for having “bravely spoken out against Open Borders.” That phrase alone is a rallying cry for conservatives tired of what they see as unsecured frontiers. It’s no surprise Trump latched onto it.


Questions Linger on Justice and Politics

Still, the charges against Cuellar weren’t trivial -- allegations of trading influence for cash raise eyebrows, even among those sympathetic to his border stance. But with the pardon in place, those questions won’t see a courtroom resolution. It’s a win for Cuellar, though the court of public opinion remains open for business.


What’s clear is that Trump’s latest move has reignited debates over whether the justice system is being used to punish political dissent.

For those on the right, this pardon is a necessary pushback against a bureaucracy that’s lost its way, especially when it comes to border security -- a core issue for millions of Americans. Cuellar, caught in the crossfire, might just be the latest symbol of that fight.

Trump Pardons Honduran President Convicted of Trafficking 400 Tons of Cocaine

President Donald Trump granted a full pardon to former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez on Monday, releasing him from federal prison despite his conviction for conspiring to import 400 tons of cocaine into the United States. The decision has sparked bipartisan criticism and raises serious questions about consistency in the administration’s anti-drug trafficking messaging.


Let’s be clear about the facts here. Hernandez was not convicted on circumstantial evidence or questionable testimony alone. A federal court found him guilty of participating in what prosecutors described as a “corrupt and violent drug-trafficking conspiracy.” He received a 45-year sentence last year. The evidence presented at trial showed Hernandez used drug money to enrich himself, finance political campaigns, and commit voter fraud in Honduras’s 2013 and 2017 presidential elections.


Now, Hernandez claims he was the victim of a political prosecution orchestrated by the Biden administration. In a letter delivered to Trump by adviser Roger Stone in late October, Hernandez argued his conviction relied on “uncorroborated statements from drug traffickers” who had no evidence to support their accusations. Trump apparently found this argument persuasive, stating that “according to many people that I greatly respect,” Hernandez was “treated very harshly and unfairly.”


Here is where the logic breaks down completely. The Trump administration is simultaneously conducting military operations against suspected Venezuelan drug runners and pressuring Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro to stop drug trafficking into the United States. The administration has made combating the drug crisis a centrepiece of its domestic and foreign policy agenda. Yet Trump just freed a man convicted of facilitating the import of 400 tons of cocaine into American communities.


Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana articulated the obvious contradiction perfectly: “Why would we pardon this guy and then go after Maduro for running drugs into the United States? Lock up every drug runner! Don’t understand why he is being pardoned.”

The question answers itself. There is no coherent principle at work here that distinguishes Hernandez from any other drug trafficker. If the argument is that

Hernandez was politically persecuted; the evidence for that claim remains thin.


Federal courts are not known for railroading foreign heads of state without substantial evidence. If the argument is that Biden administration officials orchestrated a setup, where is the proof? Trump himself seemed uncertain about this theory, telling reporters that “many of the people of Honduras said that it was a Biden setup” before adding, “I don’t mean Biden, look, Biden didn’t know he was alive.”


That statement reveals the problem. If the president cannot articulate a clear rationale for pardoning a convicted drug trafficker beyond vague claims of unfairness and political persecution, then the pardon appears arbitrary at best and corrupt at worst.


Hernandez’s wife confirmed Tuesday morning that her husband returned home after “nearly four years of pain, waiting, and difficult trials.” What about the pain caused to American families devastated by the cocaine that flooded into this country under Hernandez’s watch? What message does this send to other corrupt foreign leaders who profit from poisoning Americans?


The pardon power is absolute, but it is not beyond criticism. This decision undermines the administration’s credibility on drug enforcement and hands political ammunition to critics who claim Trump’s foreign policy is transactional rather than principled. Facts do not care about feelings, and the facts here are troubling.

Irish Schoolteacher Enoch Burke was arrested and brought to prison

The Irish school teacher Enoch Burke has been arrested and brought to Mountjoy Prison on foot of an order issued by the High Court last week, which directed his imprisonment for contempt of court.


During that hearing in Dublin, Mr Justice Cregan said that Mr Burke and members of his family had engaged in a "deliberate, sustained and concerted attack" on the authority of the civil courts and the rule of law.


He has been attending at Wilson's Hospital School, from which he was previously dismissed for gross misconduct, since it reopened after the summer holidays.

An Garda Síochána (Irish police) said they executed a High Court order in Mullingar, County Westmeath, on Tuesday.


Mr. Burke was dismissed for gross misconduct arising out of his refusal to obey a direction of the school that a transgender pupil be addressed as 'they' and "because of his gross misconduct at a school religious service (and other events) and the manner in which he conducted his objection to transgenderism", according to the judgment.

The school teacher has already spent more than 500 days in prison for contempt on three occasions since September 2022.


Following the issuing of the order, gardaí had attended his home in Castlebar in County Mayo on a number of occasions last week, and left each time without Mr. Burke, RTÉ has reported.


Mr. Burke has not been seen at the school since the order was issued.

However, on Friday, it is understood he attended the school for a short period and recorded a video outside the grounds.


On Tuesday, it is understood Mr. Burke returned to the school, and gardaí received a call alerting them to his presence.

Turning Point USA has finally responded to Candace Owens' conspiracy theories linking Charlie Kirk's assassination to those at the top of his organization.

Blake Neff, Kirk's longtime producer, took to the airwaves on Wednesday after Owens tarred everyone at TPUSA in complicity with Charlie's death.


And in a dramatic twist, Neff called Owens' bluff and invited the provocateur to appear on the Charlie Kirk Show to have her allegations tested live on-air.

Owens has for weeks spewed vile theories that those closest to Kirk were involved in his assassination, while pushing absurd conspiracies involving Egyptian government jets and French paratroopers.


'My friends have had to endure harassment from people who have gotten whipped up by what Candace is saying,' Neff said.

'In fact, I would say we have suffered more harassment from these people than we have from Antifa supporters who overtly celebrate Charlie's murder.'

Neff recounted numerous claims by Owens, including that the atrocity at Utah Valley University on September 10 was an 'inside job'. 


He pushed back on Owens' claims that Kirk's security team intentionally withheld first aid, her suspicions toward technical staff handling camera equipment, and her wild allegations against TPUSA staff, pastors, and even members of a college soccer team.

He stated that these allegations have fueled online harassment against his colleagues and friends, noting that the hostility stirred up by Owens' followers has surpassed even what they've faced from anti-Kirk activists. 

Neff also accused Owens of making her claims to 'manipulate and string along an audience of people who don't realize they are being played.' 


However, in a shocking twist at the end of his monologue, Neff invited Owens to appear on the Charlie Kirk show to have her allegations challenged head-on, noting that 'the ball was in her court.'

The dismantling of Owens' claims also did not stop with her, as Neff additionally called out her zealous supporters as 'worse than Antifa.'


Answering the question of why it took so long for TPUSA to address the accusation, Neff noted that Kirk did consider Owens a close friend, and that he believed in being beyond conservative infighting while he was alive. 

When approached for comment by the Daily Mail about TPUSA's refutations and if she would accept Neff's invite to appear on the show, a spokesman for Owens said that she would answer our inquiries live during her next podcast episode on Wednesday.


Charlie was shot dead while speaking at a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University. Tyler Robinson, 22, a left-wing college dropout, has been charged with killing him.

Charlie had built Turning Point USA into one of the most influential conservative youth organizations in America, known for its campus activism and annual conferences that drew thousands of young conservatives.

After his death, Erika publicly delivered a statement vowing to carry on his work as the new CEO of the organization.


Trump memorably eulogized Charlie at his memorial service days later and comforted Erika, who mourned the loss of her husband.

'We know the weight of this monumental loss is almost unbearable,' he said.

'But even in the midst of heartache and pain too great to even fathom, you have somehow found the strength and deep faith to be a comfort to millions and millions of people.'


More than 60,000 people attended the service, which was held at State Farm Stadium, home of the Arizona Cardinals NFL team.

The City that Mocks God...

St. Pierre - it's the city that mocked God in 1902,  just like Jerusalem before they were taken to captivity in Babylon, and just like the hypocrites of Sodom and Gomorrah who worshiped God on the Sabbath then sinned all week.  These and many other cities throughout history fell hard as examples of what God does when his patience runs out with those who screw each other financially and physically.  Exodus 23 makes His intolerance clear.  I inserted the modern applications in brackets.

 

23 My angel (Jesus) will go ahead of you and bring you into the land of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites and Jebusites, and I will wipe them out (tribes who practice cannibalism, cruel slavery, and debauchery). 24 Do not bow down before their gods or worship them or follow their practices. You must demolish them and break their sacred statues to pieces (or they will break yours). 25 Worship the Lord your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you (as it was a generation ago).


27 “I will send my terror ahead of you (colonists) and throw into confusion every (evil) nation you encounter. Now we must admit that the above scripture was old style warfare against evil forces in the world.  And since we can't go around killing those who contaminate, obviate and mentally exterminate God's people, we resort to more kindly forms of spiritual warfare such as old-time revival.  I don't suggest that we toughen up and bring out the guns again, but rather that we modernize our tactics and move from First Generation warfare tactics (line up the troops) to what is becoming known as Fifth Generation warfare (using guerilla warfare tactics in tandem with missiles, drones and other hi-tech innovations).

Our problem is this.  If we only dress up in our spiritual armour (Ephesians 6), without any other reinforcements, we leave ourselves vulnerable.  We need an "iron dome" prayer-covering (some might call it a mantel or hedge of protection, "covered by the blood"). 


We need a few holy friends as Special Forces to rescue others.  We need angels to fly over us and soften up the ground we want to take.  We need Spiritual Maps of not just the devil's strongholds in the city, but God's strongholds too.  The further out we go, the more important it is to know where the Christian communities are located, and in cities full of sin, where are the Christian families who will take us in?  Don't go alone. 


There's a reason Jesus said, "Wherever two or more are gathered I am in the midst of them".  He didn't say, "wherever you are".  God may be there, and his Holy Spirit is in you.  But the work to be done is not yours alone - it's plural, like the Godhead 3 in 1.  Jesus is there to testify (Deut. 19:15).

 

You have to know when to advance and when to retreat, to draw the enemy out.  Many a demonic principality has over-exposed itself like the emperor who had no clothes, overplayed its hand, and its attack backfired, such as we saw in the Biden government. 


Even when we advance, we must obey authority just as St. Paul did when he deliberately leaned into the authority of the mad emperors Caligula and then Nero, and made himself a martyr in order to witness to the hierarchy of Rome (and it worked). 


Lesser authorities can be found in fake health and science, entertainment, corporations, authors of DEI and the new morality, extreme sex educators and even churchmen.  They may be the generals in Satan's army, but they fight among themselves just like they try and get us to do. 


So we can play corrupt authorities against each other to divide and conquer them, just like God uses one evil nation to punish another...all the while respecting authority per Romans 8.  Our strength is "bottom up", not "top down"...starting with you and your friends or family in alliance with Jesus.

 

Let's face it, it's going to be tough on you if you don't fight for God, OR if you do!  The best way for us to start "bottom up" Fifth Generation warfare and escape the punishment of God is to practice and practice before the SHTF.  Think like a soldier in boot camp. 


Don't try and do it alone.  Read John Paul Jackson's classic, "Needless Casualties of War".  One friend or family member may be good at finding spiritual readings or videos to feed you.  Another may be good at giving you fun breaks with Christian art and crafts, plays or games.  Another person might be good at "intelligence gathering", to find the Hidden Hand and plan your spiritual works (who, where, when and how?). 


Don't wait for your pastor and associates for top-down planning.  He or she is responsible for what affects everyone in the congregation, things that no individual can handle alone.  That's how church schools and charities got started.  And don't worry when there's a Judas in the bunch.  God can handle them just like he handled cities that went bad.

Rejuvenating The Nervous System and Reconnecting with Life

A few days ago, while talking to a circle of friends about child-rearing, one mother compared an infant’s tendency to throw tantrums when sugary foods were withdrawn to what many parents were facing with modern children’s video programs and that she’d learned in the groups she belonged to that numerous parents were now switching to showing their children the shows they’d grown up watching as those shows did not have the same destabilizing effects on their children.


As we discussed this topic (e.g., many of us have banned screens after noticing how negatively they impact developing nervous systems), I realized it needed to be an open thread here due to:

Note: it continually astounds me (and those I point it out to) how different naturally raised children are, and how much rarer they are becoming, given the many fronts on which the predatory forces around us are attacking our health. For those interested, some of the most important strategies I’ve come across for raising healthy children are discussed here.


Addictive Programming

  • •A 2025 Talker Research survey of 2,000 U.S. parents found 22% report “full-on tantrums” as a side effect of excessive screen time, alongside irritability (27%) and mood swings (24%).

  • Note: this report has a lot of other disturbing statistics (e.g., 67% of parents fear they are losing precious time with their children due to screen addiction).

  • •The 2025 Common Sense Media Census states: “A quarter of parents use screen media of any kind (not just mobile devices) to help their child calm down when they are angry or upset (25%)” and “17% of parents reporting that their child sometimes or often uses a mobile device to calm down when feeling angry, sad, or upset.”

  • •In parallel, similar results can be found online. For example, on Reddit parenting forums, searches for “Cocomelon tantrum” or “screen time meltdown” yield a high volume of threads from the last 5 years (thousands according to two AI systems I queried), with parents describing similar patterns: calm during viewing, explosive tantrums (screaming, hitting, inconsolable crying for 20–60+ minutes) upon shutdown, that is often far worse than what was seen with slower shows like older Sesame Street.

  • •Pediatric resources like the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) acknowledge these issues in their clinical guidelines, noting that high-engagement digital media (e.g., auto-advancing games or videos) can lead to tantrums when interrupted due to the media containing behavioural reinforcement designed for maximum engagement.

  • Furthermore, online reports from parents surged following 2015 as YouTube became much more popular and kids' content there shifted to being optimized for toddlers to view without their parents. Research on the effects of overstimulation and attention, in turn, suggests this is addictive and creates ADHD-like symptoms:

  • •Modern shows’ rapid cuts (1–4 seconds) overstimulate young children’s developing brains, making it hard for them to disengage and sustain focus on slower tasks (termed the “overstimulation hypothesis”).

  • •A 2011 study exposed 4-year-olds to 9 minutes of fast-paced SpongeBob SquarePants (11-second cuts) vs. slower Caillou or drawing; the fast-paced group showed immediate deficits in executive function (focus, self-control) lasting up to 4 hours post-viewing, which was not seen in the slower content.Note: The AAP cites this in its guidelines, recommending that parents avoid fast-paced programs for kids under 5 due to poor comprehension and strain on regulation.

  • •A 2004 study of 1,278 kids found over 2 hours a day of TV before age 3 was linked to attention problems (e.g., ADHD-like symptoms) by age 7, with fast-paced content being a key factor.

  • •A 2018 review found early fast-paced exposure correlated with later attentional deficits, as it “rewires” developing brains toward novelty-seeking over sustained focus. Likewise, in mice, excessive sensory stimulation decreased anxiety, learning, and memory and increased risk-taking and motor activity.

  • •A 2023 study linked higher toddler screen time to increased anger/frustration later (e.g., withdrawal tantrums), with each extra hour raising risk by 13%—specifically, preschooler screen time at age 3.5 prospectively contributed to more expressions of anger/frustration at 4.5.


Since many parents specifically cited CoComelon (a YouTube channel) as being particularly problematic (to the point many stated they’d banned it), and often attributed it to the show’s rapidly changing frames every few seconds, I watched a few of them to verify this (noting how disorienting it was to watch this as the shots frequently change every 1-4 seconds).


Note: many people I’ve spoken to over the years believe the shorter and shorter segments (before a screen cut or transition) which emerged on TV was immensely destructive to the American psyche as they took away people’s ability to maintain a lengthy attention span (which amongst other things is necessary to perceive the deeper things around which give true meaning to life or be content in the present).


  • •Classic slow-paced shows (Mister Rogers, old Sesame Street, Blue’s Clues), in contrast, were deliberately calm and used long takes because they were designed for developmental appropriateness (and were often watched with a parent). Modern YouTube-first content is intended to be watched alone by a toddler holding a tablet, with no adult co-viewing required, so “grab and hold attention at all costs” wins.Note: Mister Rogers shared in interviews that he would often leave a pause after he said things so children could have the time to process how they felt about it—effectively the polar opposite of what these channels are doing.


All of this has a startling number of implications. Of these, I believe the following are the most pertinent:

1. A large body of evidence has emerged (including numerous regretful statements from tech executives) that screens and all the content associated with them have been designed to be as addictive as possible, with much of this revolving around them having stimuli that trigger dopamine releases. In parallel, quite a few social media executives have said they have tremendous regret about what their products (intentionally designed to be addictive) have done to our children’s brains. Likewise, many articles have been written about how Silicon Valley tech executives send their kids to an alternative school where phones and screens are banned.

2. After the DPT vaccine entered the population, due to its frequent tendency to cause encephalitis, a wide range of neurological and behavioural issues (including violent crime) rippled out through the society as the vaccinated children grew up. In the 1950s, a condition termed “minimal brain damage” [MBD] was coined (with the defining characteristic of it being hyperactivity), which, before long, became “perhaps the most common, and certainly one of the most time-consuming problems in current pediatric practice”.


The symptoms of MBD (as defined by America’s Public Health Service and the American Psychiatric Association) have a significant overlap with what was seen after encephalitis, DPT injuries, and what was associated with autism. Eventually, they figured out that much of it could be “treated” with stimulants like amphetamines. At that point, the disorder was renamed ADHD (something that, coincidentally, every vaccinated-unvaccinated comparison shows is vastly more common in vaccinated children).


Note: Canadian physician Gabor Maté has reported that a significant number of the homeless, often stimulant-using, addicted patients he worked with showed signs of undiagnosed ADHD. He (and others) have said that when their ADHD was recognized correctly and treated—usually as part of a broader trauma-informed approach (as he attributed this change to childhood trauma rather than vaccine injury)—it often helped them stabilize and reduce the destructive cycle of their addictions and the criminalized behaviours associated with them.

  • •In 2010, David Kessler (a former FDA commissioner) published The End of Overeating: Taking Control of the Insatiable American Appetite, which highlighted that American food has been engineered to be as addictive as possible and that food industry executives had confirmed this to him. There, he highlighted that while Americans were trained to prioritize strong tastes rather than subtle tastes in food, and that foreign chefs find Americans have an extremely unrefined palate and demand fatty-salty-sugary food rather than the rich blend of flavors seen in the traditional ethnic cuisines, and because of this, ethnic cuisines would always be forced to become Americanized (e.g., Chinese food here is vastly different from what it’s like in China) or be forced to go out of business.

Note: this point echoes a longstanding frustration of mine, as I’ve had so many times I found a restaurant I really liked (due to them catering to the complex depth of flavors seen in the traditional cuisine rather than the spikes in Americanized food) which then went out of business (including many cases where I tried to support them and get others to as well).

  • •I recently learned (through Calley Means) that in the 1980s, Big Tobacco bought out the processed food industry and then, as they had done with cigarettes, prioritized making processed foods as addictive as possible (which is documented here).

  • •Finally, in 2017, another respected author in this field, Robert Lustig, MD, sought to explain the why behind Kessler’s 2010 work, published The Hacking of the American Mind: The Science Behind the Corporate Takeover of Our Bodies and Brains. It tied together much of what I’d concluded on the issue, revolving around the idea that the brain had a dopamine “temporary pleasure” circuit alongside a serotonin “sustained happiness” circuit. Lustig then argued that a lot of work had gone into shifting us away from serotonin to dopamine circuits and that the addiction to dopamine spikes was used to control every level of society and put us into a constant state of (monetizable) distress, disconnection, and unhappiness.

Note: Lustig’s work also highlighted that excessive electronic usage (due to its addictive nature, particularly highly stimulating video games, social media, gambling, or pornography) activates the dopamine circuits, priming children to become more susceptible to junk food cravings. I believe the pornography aspect is particularly tragic as it’s made a large number of people switch from being able to enjoy the deep contentment of a visceral and alive connection with another human being to seeking out fleeting dopamine spiking experiences which can only be found in mental fantasies (which pornography caters to), a string of new partners, or extreme sexual activities (a problem which is further compounded by depleted nervous systems being unable to appreciate the subtleties of human contact).

Reconnecting With Life

At this point, I believe the “dopamine” way of living life is a trap most people benefit immensely from being freed from—particularly since, as every drug addict knows, any dopamine spike is always followed by a low that makes you feel even more dead and disconnected inside (along with increasingly strong spikes being required to recreate the joy the initial spike brought).


Unfortunately, extricating oneself from this trap is quite challenging, in part because our society has been designed around the dopamine model, and in part because, when your nervous system has been depleted, it becomes much harder to appreciate the subtler (but far more nourishing) experiences of life. This creates a vicious cycle where nervous system depletion drives one toward dopamine-spiking behaviour, which in turn further depletes and deregulates the nervous system.


Over the years, I’ve come to believe the most important thing you can do is to restore the health of your nervous system. When the nervous system is healthy and resilient, the pull toward artificial stimulation naturally diminishes, and the capacity to feel alive and connected in ordinary moments returns. In parallel,


I think that one of the primary reasons people seek out a variety of spiritual and mind-body or meditative practices is to reclaim this state of being, and the fact that there is an ever growing market for that demonstrates that the depletion of our society is reaching the point people are seeing that can no longer address this depletion by overriding it with more stimulation.


Feeling alive inside is the natural antidote to dopamine addiction; when you genuinely feel alive, the hollow promise of the next spike loses its appeal. So, in the final part of this article (which exists as an open forum for you to ask any unanswered questions which emerged over the last month), I will discuss some of the simpler approaches that we’ve found most effective for restoring nervous system health and breaking free from the dopamine trap.
