For December, the school’s main display board featured a winter scene with snowflakes, a decorated tree, and Olaf from Disney’s Frozen. The winter festivities include a similarly generic cookie sale free from references to Christmas.
On its own, this wouldn’t be especially remarkable, but the Christianity-shy school regularly observed non-Christian cultural and religious holidays without reservation. In October, the school promoted a similar cookie sale for Diwali on its Instagram account. The school’s display board during that period also clearly identified Diwali as the celebration being recognized.
The pattern has raised community concerns. Following True North’s earlier reporting on Pringle Creek, a second community member independently reached out, expressing concern about what they described as the school’s “ongoing erasure of Christian holidays while giving preferential treatment to others.”
A review of the school’s Instagram account showed frequent and explicit recognition of Islamic and South Asian observances. Past posts included a video of primary-aged students dancing to an Arabic-language Eid-themed song, while the Easter display was relegated to cute imagery of the Easter bunny and spring flowers.
In the previous school year, Pringle Creek posted seven times about Diwali, three times about Lunar New Year, and shared a Grade 1 classroom post celebrating Hanukkah and Kwanzaa as part of “December celebrations,” again without mentioning Christmas. Easter, meanwhile, was framed as a spring-themed STEM activity to “Design an Easter basket,” rather than a religious holiday.
A member contacted the school’s principal to ask why Christian holidays were consistently treated as generic seasonal greetings while the cultural and religious elements of Diwali and Islamic holidays were respected.
The principal acknowledged the concern, stating, “I understand your surprise regarding the front bulletin board not being decorated specifically for Easter or Passover this year,” and added that the “office display case” had been decorated for Easter.
Images shared with True North show the display contained no references to Easter, featuring instead eggs, flowers and the Easter bunny, all with a spring-themed pastel décor. There were no references to the holiday’s Christian roots or traditions.
The principal maintained the school is “committed to equity and inclusion,” ensuring that many “cultures and faith-based celebrations are acknowledged and respected.”
True North contacted Pringle Creek Public School and the Durham District School Board for comment regarding the December displays and the concerns raised by multiple parents, but did not receive a response by publication time.

How Many Democrats Voted Against MTG’s Bill to Outlaw Transgender Surgeries for Kids?
The House of Representatives successfully passed a bill designed to protect children nationally from transgender procedures on Wednesday, a major step forward in codifying one of President Donald Trump’s campaign promises.
The bill, titled the Protect Children’s Innocence Act, passed by a 216 to 211 margin, with 207 Democrats voting against the bill. Four Republicans joined Democrats in opposition: Reps. Mike Lawler of New York, Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, Mike Kennedy of Utah, and Gabe Evans of Colorado.
Three Democrats, Reps. Don Davis of North Carolina, Vicente Gonzalez of Texas, and Henry Cuellar of Texas joined 213 Republicans in support of the legislation introduced by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga.
Greene’s bill would make performing transgender surgeries or procedures on minors a felony.
Offenders would face a penalty of up to 10 years in federal prison, with fines on the table, as well.
The bill expands the definition of chemical castration and genital or bodily mutilation in the federal code to a variety of transgender chemical and surgical procedures.
It also provides exemptions for treatment of rare conditions and medical emergencies.
There are no exemptions for mental health-related issues.
This means puberty blockers and cross-sex hormone treatments, as well as a host of surgical procedures, would be banned for use on children by federal law.
“Left-wing activists and medical institutions are targeting America’s children with dangerous drugs, disfiguring surgeries, and permanent sterilization,” Greene previously said in a statement on the bill.
“My bill stops the mutilation of kids and holds those responsible for performing or facilitating these barbaric procedures accountable,” Greene added.
The bill also prevents federal funds from being used for so-called gender-affirming care or to subsidize health insurance plans that cover such procedures. It prohibits federal employees and facilities from performing these procedures, and bars qualified health plans from providing coverage for what advocates refer to as gender-affirming care.
Debating the bill on the House floor, Democrats argued that transgender procedures on children are “life-saving.”
“I rise today in fierce opposition to Rep. Greene’s bill that would throw doctors and parents in jail for providing life-saving medical care. Even for Republicans, this is extreme,” said Rep. Becca Balint, D-Vt. “Your kids’ medical care is none of their damn business. We should call this obsession with your kids and what treatment they’re getting in a pediatrician’s office what it is—it’s creepy.”
Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., also argued it was outside Congress’s powers, saying, “Medical care has always been left to the states to deal with. So this is like a bulldozer going into everybody’s house if you happen to be dealing with this particular kind of medical crisis.”
Rep. Barry Moore, R-Ala., however, put things more simply.
“How about we just don’t mutilate our children?” he said. “I think that’s a good call, and this is allowing people above the age of 18 to make those decisions… These are kids who are in the second or third grade.”
Greene’s bill came to the floor after some Congressional horse-trading. She was a holdout on a procedural vote to advance an annual defense spending bill and engaged in an active conversation with House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., on the House floor.
On X, Greene said she had struck a deal with House leadership for her support on the NDAA.
“I made a deal and changed my NO vote on the rule to a Yes in exchange for a floor vote next week on my bill that is one of President [Donald] Trump’s key campaign promises and executive orders,” Greene said. “Leader Steve Scalise has promised me that my bill, Protect Children’s Innocence Act, H.R. 3492, will be brought to the floor for a vote.”
The legislation is likely Greene’s last major legislative push as a member of the House. She will resign her seat on Jan. 5, 2026, in the wake of a heated dispute between her and President Donald Trump.

Two Sanctuary States Release Nearly 9,000 Criminal Aliens with ICE Detainers Since January:
The Trump administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration has made great strides in a short time, but over a dozen states are making the effort more difficult by offering illegal aliens—even those convicted of serious crimes—sanctuary.
Just two of those states, New York and Illinois, have released nearly 9,000 criminal aliens from jails and prisons since January 20, defying Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainers to deport them. Among the offenders protected by the sanctuary policies are murderers, terrorists, sexual predators and kidnappers, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirms this month.
Almost 7,000 criminal aliens flagged by ICE were released from custody in the state of New York during the roughly 10-month period examined by DHS. Illinois released more than 1,700 criminal aliens from jails and prisons throughout the state rather than turn them over to federal authorities for removal. The failure to honour ICE detainers has led to “numerous illegal alien murderers, rapists, and pedophiles being released” back into sanctuary communities, Homeland Security officials have established.
In New York, the crimes committed by illegal aliens released since the end of January include 29 homicides, 2,509 assaults, 199 burglaries, 305 robberies, 392 dangerous drugs offences, 300 weapons offences, and 207 sexual predatory offences. Among those freed is a Turkish known or Suspected Terrorist (KST) named Selman Cevik, who was let go after being jailed for first-degree menacing and harassment, a rapist, Huseyin Aslan, also charged with assault and criminal contempt, and two gang members with convictions or charges for assault, criminal possession of a weapon and robbery.
The list is extensive and, alarmingly, the released criminal aliens have been replaced with new ones, according to DHS, which reveals that currently there are 7,113 criminal aliens in custody in New York jails with an active ICE detainer. Their crimes include 148 homicides, 717 assaults, 134 burglaries, 106 robberies, 235 dangerous drugs offences, 152 weapons offences, and 260 sexual predatory offences. New York Attorney General Letitia James and her fellow 'sanctuary politicians are releasing murderers, terrorists, and sexual predators back into our neighbourhoods and putting American lives at risk,” said DHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs, Tricia McLaughlin.
The same thing is going on in Illinois, where Governor JB Pritzker’s statewide sanctuary policies have released 1,768 criminal illegal aliens since January 20, rather than turn them over to ICE for removal. The crimes of these aliens include five homicides, 141 assaults, 23 burglaries, 4 robberies, 24 dangerous drugs offences, 15 weapons offences, and 10 sexual predatory offences. Among them is Mexican Victor Manuel Mendoza-Garcia convicted of three counts of aggravated kidnapping/ransom and sentenced to 18 years by a Cook County Court,
Mexican Amilcar Waldo Gonzalez-Jimenez, convicted of driving under the influence, domestic battery and criminal sexual assault and Mexican Jaime Mandujano-Nunez, sentenced to 17 years imprisonment after a 2012 conviction for predatory criminal sex assault of a child in Cook County. DHS reveals that there are currently 4,015 illegal immigrants in the custody of an Illinois jurisdiction with an active ICE detainer.
The crimes of these aliens include 51 homicides, 1,134 assaults, 107 burglaries, 36 robberies, 275 dangerous drugs offences, 120 weapons offences, and 813 sexual predatory offences. “We are calling on Governor Pritzker and his administration to stop this dangerous derangement and commit to honouring the ICE arrest detainers of the more than 4,000 criminal illegal aliens in Illinois’ custody,” said McLaughlin, pointing out that criminal illegal aliens should not be released back into our streets to terrorize more innocent Americans.
Like New York and Illinois, dozens of local governments throughout the U.S. shield illegal immigrants by offering sanctuary. Earlier this year, the Department of Justice (DOJ) published a list of states, cities, and counties identified as having policies, laws, or regulations that impede the enforcement of federal immigration laws.
An analysis conducted by the Washington D.C.-based Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) reveals that from October 1, 2022, to February 6, 2025, more than 25,000 criminal aliens were released from jails and prisons around the country. California was by far the biggest offender, releasing more than half (13,025) of the alien criminals by declining ICE detainers, the CIS probe found.
