This left Israel as God's own personal allotment, not governed by a lesser angelic being but by the Lord Himself.

OLDCORN: ‘Parents don’t have rights’
— Progressive Conservative Nova Scotia education minister is wrong
Progressive Conservative Brendan Maguire’s attack on parental rights over gender policy should alarm every mother and father in Nova Scotia.
Nova Scotia (NS) Education Minister Brendan Maguire did not just have a bad day in the legislature. The Progressive Conservative minister said something that should trouble every parent in the country.
During a heated exchange at the NS House of Assembly, Maguire rejected the idea that parents have rights over their children.
“No, they don’t. They absolutely don’t,” said Maguire.
He also accused critics of “fear-mongering” and warned lawmakers not to quote sources he claimed were spreading “hate speech” toward the LGBT community.
The issue being raised was reporting on school gender policies and taxpayer-funded gender surgeries for minors.
That is not leadership. That is a warning sign.
Maguire has spoken openly about his painful childhood. By his own account, he suffered abuse, was abandoned, and went through the foster care system.
No decent person should mock that. Abuse is real. Some parents do fail their children in terrible ways. In those cases, child protection must act.
But that is not the same as saying parents, as a class, do not deserve rights over their children.
Most parents are not abusers. Most parents are the people who sit up through fevers, pack lunches, pay for braces, drive to hockey practice, help with math homework, and worry when their child seems lost.
They are not perfect. Nobody is. But they are the first guardians of their children, not guests in their lives.
The government does not love a child. A department does not tuck a child into bed. A minister does not carry the weight of raising that child for 18 years.
Parents do.
That is why Maguire’s comments matter.
He is not a backbench MLA shouting from the cheap seats. He is a Progressive Conservative cabinet minister responsible for education and early childhood development.
When the person in that chair says parents do not “deserve rights,” parents should take him at his word.
Nova Scotia’s own education materials show why this debate is not theoretical. The Department of Education’s guidelines for supporting transgender and gender-nonconforming students include using a student’s preferred name and pronoun, access to washrooms and change rooms, and participation in sports and activities.
A 2018 update said PowerSchool was changed so a child’s preferred first name could appear on school documents and preferred pronouns could be honoured.
These are not small matters. A child’s name, sex, identity, private spaces, and medical path are serious issues. Parents have every right to know what is happening at school.
They have every right to ask questions. They have every right to object.
Calling those questions “hate speech” is a cheap way to shut down debate.
Reports last July said documents showed Nova Scotia doctors had approved five surgeries to create artificial vaginas for patients listed as under 19.
Whether one supports or opposes such procedures, taxpayers are allowed to ask what is being funded, who approved it, what safeguards exist, and whether parents were involved.
That is not hate. That is accountability.
The Left often says children have rights, too. Of course they do. Children are not property. They are human beings. They deserve safety, food, education, and protection from abuse.
Canadian law recognizes that a child’s voice matters as the child matures.
But none of that turns the government into the parent.
There is a reason Canadian courts have long treated parental authority as a serious matter.
In R. v. Audet, the Supreme Court of Canada noted that parents delegate authority to teachers and entrust them with part of a child’s learning. That word “delegate” matters.
Schools do not own children. They serve families.
That is the proper order.
Maguire seems to have collapsed two very different things into one argument. One is child abuse, where the state must intervene. The other is parental disagreement with gender ideology, where the state should listen, answer, and respect the family.
A parent who says, “I want to know if my child is changing names at school” is not an abuser.
A parent who says, “I do not want my child rushed toward medical transition” is not hateful.
A parent who says, “Boys and girls deserve privacy in change rooms” is not dangerous.
These are normal concerns. They are the concerns of parents doing their job.
The real danger is a government that starts treating ordinary parental concerns as a threat. Once that happens, the school becomes a gatekeeper between child and family. Teachers become social workers. Ministers become moral referees. Parents are told to stand outside the room and wait for permission.
Conservatives should reject that outright. They should reject it even more strongly when it comes from inside a Progressive Conservative government.
The government has a role. It can set basic education standards. It can protect children from real harm. It can fund schools and hire teachers.
But it is not the mother. It is not the father. It is not the family.
Maguire owes Nova Scotia parents an apology. More than that, Premier Tim Houston’s government should make it clear that parents must be informed and involved in major decisions affecting their children at school.
The question is simple.
Who has the final responsibility for a child? The parent who raises that child, or the minister who manages the system?
For conservatives, the answer is plain to see. The parents.

Fiscal update adds $88 million a year for Temporary Foreign Worker program through 2028
Mark Carney's immigration policies continue to come under scrutiny as cost of living concerns persist.
While Canadians grapple with housing shortages, strained public services and a weak job market, the Liberal government’s Spring Economic Update 2026 includes millions in new funding for the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.
Buried on page 146 of the fiscal update (page 138 in the document numbering), Ottawa commits an additional $88 million annually through 2028 for the program.
The government frames the spending as administrative support. Still, it is more taxpayer money is being directed toward expanding or sustaining foreign labour streams while many Canadians — especially younger workers — struggle to find stable employment.
The Temporary Foreign Worker Program allows employers to hire workers from abroad when they claim qualified Canadians are unavailable.
However, the system can suppress wages, distort labour markets, and reduce incentives for businesses to train domestic workers or improve pay. Conservative Immigration critic Michelle Rempel Garner has called for the abolition of the program.

The Justice Department announced a groundbreaking criminal case Tuesday against Dr. Anthony Fauci’s former top aide at the National Institutes of Health, accusing him of suppressing information about the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. David Morens was Dr. Fauci’s senior adviser at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, where he oversaw the agency’s grants, including one that funded risky research at the Wuhan lab in China suspected of being the source of the virus.
In a new indictment, the government charged that Dr. Morens conspired to argue that the Wuhan lab wasn’t at fault, tried to delete emails with the firm that funded the research at Wuhan, and sought to use his private email to hide his actions from the public.
Prosecutors said he tried to get the government to restart funding to EcoHealth Alliance, the firm that acted as the go-between for taxpayer money to reach China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology. They also charged that he accepted gifts from the organization’s leadership for his “behind-the-scenes shenanigans.”
“These allegations represent a profound abuse of trust at a time when the American people needed it most — during the height of a global pandemic,” said Todd Blanche, the acting attorney general. “Government officials have a solemn duty to provide honest, well-grounded facts and advice in service of the public interest — not to advance their own personal or ideological agendas.”
Dr. Morens faces charges of destruction, alteration or falsification of records in a federal investigation; concealment, removal or mutilation of records; aiding and abetting; and conspiracy against the U.S.
The case was brought in federal court in Maryland, where Dr. Morens made a first appearance Monday. A magistrate judge said he may remain free from custody.
An attorney for Dr. Morens declined to comment on the case.
Dr. Fauci, who was the face of government efforts concerning the pandemic and helped forge some of the controversial guidance on shutdowns and masking, went on to become President Biden’s chief medical adviser.
Mr. Biden, just before leaving office last year, issued Dr. Fauci a preemptive pardon to block any prosecution by the Trump administration.
The indictment says Judicial Watch, a conservative group, filed the first FOIA for records of Dr. Morens or EcoHealth on April 22, 2020. A host of others followed.
Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, said the prosecution was the first time he could recall a criminal case over FOIA violations.
“It’s a remarkable development. It shows that thwarting FOIA can be a criminal offense,” he said. “I hope it’s the first of many.”
U.S. Right to Know was another group whose FOIA attempt was hindered by Dr. Morens, according to the indictment.
“It is refreshing to see the Department of Justice stand up for transparency in this powerful way,” said Gary Ruskin, executive director of U.S. Right to Know.
The 29-page indictment was returned by a federal grand jury April 16.
The case has been assigned to U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis, an Obama appointee who has been a legal combatant against the Trump administration in the Kilmar Abrego Garcia deportation case.
The indictment portrays Dr. Morens as Dr. Fauci’s key aide, preparing him for his interactions with Congress and the White House and controlling some of the information that reached Dr. Fauci.
That includes serving as the go-between for information from EcoHealth Alliance — the firm that siphoned U.S. taxpayer money to the Wuhan lab for bat coronavirus research — and EcoHealth’s chief, Peter Daszak.
As the pandemic worsened in 2020, Dr. Morens and Mr. Daszak exchanged ideas on how to explain what was happening.
At first, their communications were on government email accounts. Eventually, Dr. Morens shifted some conversations to private email, the indictment said, illegally shielding them from open-records requests under the Freedom of Information Act.
“I need to keep this correspondence off of USG emails for obvious reasons, so am sending from gmail,” Dr. Morens wrote in one May 3, 2020, email where he made clear he was hiding from “multiple FOIAs already.” In a message 12 days later, he said he had been told he could “cover” himself by “deleting emails and making use of foia delays.”
EcoHealth Alliance has been dinged by federal investigators for funding risky bat research at the Wuhan lab and then obfuscating the results. The firm has denied that its funds were used for dangerous experiments.
The origins of the pandemic remain unsettled, though some U.S. agencies say the likeliest explanation is that the virus leaked from the lab. Another explanation holds that it naturally infected an animal and then infected humans.
More than 7 million people worldwide, including 1.2 million in the U.S., have died from the virus, according to the World Health Organization.
As EcoHealth Alliance faced criticism in the spring of 2020, Dr. Morens wrote a scholarly piece challenging the lab-leak theory. The indictment says the piece “was intended to benefit” EcoHealth and Mr. Daszak.
After EcoHealth won a new $7.5 million grant in August 2020, Dr. Morens emailed from his official account asking, “do I get a kickback???”
Mr. Daszak responded to Dr. Morens’ Gmail account, saying there would be a kickback: “5 more years of FOIA requests” and “I just hope it doesn’t culminate in 5 years in federal jail.”
In 2021, after Dr. Morens and Dr. Fauci received a “huge” FOIA request for documents mentioning Wuhan, Dr. Morens assured Mr. Daszak that his name “will not show up in this FOIA, at least not from my info.”
EcoHealth Alliance was suspended from NIH grants in 2024 after the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic held a high-profile hearing on the firm’s activities.

Judicial Watch Lawsuit Settlement Causes Review and Removal of 800,000 Ineligible Voters from Oregon Voter Rolls
(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced a settlement in its federal lawsuit against Oregon election officials, which confirms 800,000 ineligible voter names are slated for review and removal from voter registration lists. The settlement requires state officials to produce detailed data and enforce federal voter roll clean-up procedures under the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRA).
Judicial Watch filed the lawsuit in October 2024, alleging Oregon failed to remove ineligible voters and seeking to enforce Section 8 of the NVRA after identifying widespread voter roll maintenance failures across dozens of counties (Judicial Watch, et al. v. The State of Oregon et al. (No. 6:24-cv-01783)).
In its complaint, Judicial Watch that Oregon’s voter rolls contain large numbers of old, inactive registrations; and that 29 of Oregon’s 36 counties removed few or no registrations as required by federal election law. Judicial Watch asserted that Oregon and 35 of its counties had overall registration rates exceeding 100%; and that Oregon had the highest known inactive registration rate of any state in the nation. In combination, all of these facts showed that Oregon was failing to remove inactive registrations as required by federal law.
In August 2025, a federal court in Oregon denied a motion to dismiss by Oregon and ruled the lawsuit could proceed.
In response to the lawsuit, Oregon Secretary of State Tobias Read announced earlier this year that Oregon has about 800,000 inactive registrations, which are kept separately from the active voter rolls and do not receive ballots.
Of those, roughly 160,000 already meet federal and state criteria for removal—having received confirmation notices, failed to respond, and not voted in two federal elections—and are slated for cancellation. The remaining approximately 640,000 inactive records do not yet qualify for removal and will be processed through future list maintenance efforts.
In its press release, Oregon acknowledged that routine removal of outdated records effectively stalled in 2017, leaving a large pool of long-dormant registrations on the rolls without being fully processed for removal. The scale of the backlog underscores a gap in routine list maintenance that is only now being addressed. “These directives are about cleaning up old data that’s no longer in use so Oregonians can be confident that our voter records are up to date,” said Read.
“This is another historic election integrity success. Judicial Watch’s lawsuit caused Oregon to finally cleanup 800,000 outdated voter names, adding to the more than six million ineligible voters removed by Judicial Watch lawsuits and legal action nationwide,” said Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch.
“Dirty voter rolls can mean dirty elections. Oregon’s Secretary of State, Tobias Read, is to be commended for responding to our lawsuit with a massive voter roll clean-up and commitment to continued voter list maintenance, which will only increase voter confidence.”
Judicial Watch’s lawsuits and legal actions have caused the removal of six million ineligible names from voter lists nationwide.
Under the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRA), states must take reasonable steps to remove ineligible voters—such as those who have died, moved, or become otherwise inactive.
The settlement with Oregon remains in effect for more than five years, with a federal court retaining jurisdiction to enforce its terms. While the settlement resolves the litigation, it explicitly allows future legal action if Oregon fails to comply with voter list clean-up requirements going forward.
The settlement requires Oregon to open its voter roll maintenance processes to unprecedented scrutiny. State officials must now regularly provide detailed, county-level data on voter registrations, removals, confirmation notices, and inactive voters—including those eligible for removal under federal law. This includes data reported to the Election Assistance Commission, as well as additional datasets that will allow ongoing monitoring of compliance.
The agreement ensures that this information will not be hidden behind bureaucratic barriers, requiring timely disclosure and identification of data sources.
Oregon will also provide annual reports on inactive voters and those eligible for removal under federal law, as well as provide free access to the state’s voter registration list upon request to Judicial Watch.
Oregon committed to implementing Read’s new list maintenance directives, which were issued in response to Judicial Watch’s lawsuit.
The agreement also gives Judicial Watch the authority to request detailed records and monitor Oregon’s compliance, including documentation related to county performance and voter list maintenance procedures.
Judicial Watch is a national leader in election integrity and voting rights litigation, with a record of successful lawsuits enforcing constitutional redistricting standards and cleaning voter rolls nationwide.
Robert Popper, a Judicial Watch senior attorney, leads its election law program. Popper was previously in the Voting Section of the Civil Rights Division of the Justice Department, where he managed voting rights investigations, litigations, consent decrees, and settlements in dozens of states.

Colorado recently removed 372,000 ineligible voter names thanks to a Judicial Watch lawsuit and settlement addressing the state’s compliance with federal voter list maintenance requirements.
In Kentucky, state election board officials reported that “roughly 735,000 ineligible voter registrations” have been removed from voter rolls, as part of a 2018 consent decree settling a Judicial Watch lawsuit.
As part of its 2022 settlement, New York City alone has removed 918,139 ineligible names from its rolls: data show 477,056 removals between March 2023 and February 2025, which is in addition to the 441,083 previously reported removals.
In Los Angeles, county officials confirmed the removal of more than 1.2 million names from voter rolls as part of a settlement. Judicial Watch legal pressure also resulted in election roll clean-ups in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Ohio.
A federal court in Illinois has ruled that Judicial Watch’s lawsuit to force the cleaning of voter rolls may proceed in that state. Judicial Watch has sent a notice-of-violation letter to election officials in California, and legal action over the state’s voter rolls is imminent.
In March 2026, the Supreme Court of the United States held oral argument in a landmark election integrity case over whether the federal Election Day laws prohibit the counting of mail-in ballots that arrive after Election Day. Judicial Watch brought the underlying lawsuit on behalf of the Libertarian Party of Mississippi.
In January 2026, in a historic case filed by Judicial Watch, the Supreme Court decided 7-2 in favor of Congressman Mike Bost and two presidential electors who were before the court to vindicate their standing to challenge an Illinois law allowing the counting of ballots received up to 14 days after Election Day.

What do these nations have in common?
They are where we have the largest standing military presence outside the US.
I think Trump is not just setting up a withdrawal from NATO, I think he is setting up a withdrawal of our military presence around the globe and will eventually begin the process of consolidating US MIL presence to the Western Hemisphere, once we are done with Iran and the war in Ukraine is over.
I think the end goal is normalized relations with Russia and China, and thus the permanent end to the Cold War that never really ended. This is only possible by removing US military presence off of China and Russia’s doorstep, as well as ending Russian/Chinese meddling in our hemisphere, via places like Venezuela and Cuba, which is already happening.
What if the US, Russia, and China, just agreed to stop the espionage, weapons of mass destruction, proxy wars, and meddling in each other’s regions?
What if the superpowers were on the same side instead of against each other?
It’s possible, and things seem to be inching in that direction. Russia and China are losing their influence in the Western Hemisphere, and Trump is posturing like he is going to remove our presence in the Eastern Hemisphere.
I think we are witnessing a restructure of the global order, and the global “alliances” as we know them are about to shift dramatically.
