US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin tested positive for Covid-19 after experiencing mild symptoms and will now stay in quarantine for the next few days, where he will continue to lead the Pentagon in a virtual capacity.
Austin revealed his positive test result on Sunday, writing, “My symptoms are mild, and I am following my physician’s directions. In keeping with those directions, and in accordance with CDC guidelines, I will quarantine myself at home for the next five days.”
Austin added that he would “retain all authorities” and attend “key meetings and discussions” remotely, while Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks would represent him in certain matters.
Austin informed President Joe Biden of the result, noting that his last in-person meeting with the president was on December 21, more than a week before he experienced symptoms. Austin also claimed Pentagon staff who had recently come into contact with him were currently being tested.
“I have not been in the Pentagon since Thursday, where I met briefly – and only – with a few members of staff. We were properly masked and socially distanced throughout,” Austin claimed.
While vaccination and a recent booster shot did not prevent the defense secretary from getting a breakthrough infection, he insisted that his symptoms would have been much more severe if he had not gone out of the way to protect himself.
“As my doctor made clear to me, my fully vaccinated status – and the booster I received in early October – have rendered the infection much more mild than it would otherwise have been,” he said, encouraging fellow members of the military to get vaccinated.

Purolator in BC – COURT Ruling:
Arbitrator Nicholas Glass determined that the mandates in British Columbia were not valid and therefore the vaccine free must receive compensation.
(LifeSiteNews) — A former attorney general for British Columbia said a recent case in which an arbitrator ruled in favor of union members who worked for courier giant Purolator but lost their jobs because they chose to not get the COVID shots could mean the end to healthcare worker jab mandates in the province.
According to Suzanne Anton, who was justice minister under British Columbia’s former Liberal government Premier Christy Clark from 2013 to 2017, the Purolator ruling is a potential “game changer.”
Arbitrator Nicholas Glass, as per a 196-page ruling made on December 14, stated that “the grievances complained that the grievors were improperly terminated or placed on involuntary unpaid leaves of absence.” He ruled the vaccine-free workers must receive compensation as the mandates were not “valid.”
As it stands, British Columbia under its NDP government is the only province in Canada forcing healthcare workers to have the COVID shots. According to Anton, the Purolator ruling could eventually help all the healthcare workers, including doctors and nurses, in the province who were fired because they chose not to get the shots.
Hundreds of British Columbia healthcare workers are suing the provincial health officer, Bonnie Henry, via a class action, for the province’s COVID shot mandates, which do not allow them to work.
According to the suit, Henry claimed that the “vaccination is safe, very effective, and the single most important preventive measure for health professionals […] to protect patients, residents and clients, and the health and personal care workforce, from […] COVID-19.”
However, the lawsuit points out the adverse side effects of taking the jab, including blood clots. It further cited a study that revealed that 5,770 out of 18,198 individuals (26.7 percent) who took the shot experienced an adverse reaction.
Anton, as she noted to The Epoch Times, said that Glass’ ruling was a “very well-written decision and it is the first time that a decision maker has gone down this road of, first of all, ordering compensation, that I know of.”
She said the ruling calls into question the “British Columbia Public Health Officer,” adding that the healthcare workers have public support, as people she talks to “are really surprised that they’re still fired.”
The union, which was challenging Purolator, had brought in a top expert in the field of immunology to help the workers’ case. On behalf of its grievors, it argued that the COVID jabs efficacy was diminished after the Omicron variant became prevalent in the early weeks of 2022 and the policy was not needed.
As per the ruling, Purolator has been ordered to give compensation to its hourly employees who did not get the COVID shots, which includes lost benefits and wages, between July 1, 2022, and May 1, 2023.
Purolator has also been ordered to give compensation to owner-operators beginning from the first date they lost income.

Anton observed that the province’s healthcare worker COVID jab mandate is “political” and that the province’s Minister of Health, Adrian Dix, is “behind [Dr. Henry] all of the way.”
Henry, as early as yesterday, has still defended the healthcare COVID jab mandates as needed.
When writing in a guest column in Business in Vancouver (BIV), Anton observed that healthcare workers might soon “get their relief,” adding, that “The Purolator decision can only help.”
She also noted how the Purolator case will send “shock waves through the system,”
“It’s been my view for some time that mandate issues need to be properly litigated, and this case shows the startling results which can develop when a well-informed arbitrator or judge has good evidence to work from,” Anton noted.
On September 15, 2021, Purolator, like many Canadian companies around that time, mandated that its workers get the COVID shot to be allowed to its workplaces. Workers were given until December 25, 2021, to comply, with the full policy coming into force on January 10, 2022.
COVID vaccine mandates, which came from provincial governments with the support of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s federal government, split Canadian society. The mRNA shots themselves have been linked to a multitude of negative and often severe side effects in children.
The jabs also have connections to cell lines derived from aborted babies. As a result of this, many Catholics and other Christians refused to take them.

Fines for Ontario Church that stayed Open during Covid:
KITCHENER, Ontario (LifeSiteNews) — Pastors for Trinity Bible Chapel, a large Christian church that had its doors closed by health officials in 2021 for breaking COVID rules, had charges brought against them for protesting COVID mandates “stayed,” but the church is still on the hook for thousands of dollars in fines for violating gathering restrictions.
“This outcome is a reflection of Ontario Courts’ failure to protect and uphold religious freedom. My clients and I strongly disagree with the Courts’ decisions with respect to their Charter protections but accept that the decision of the Ontario Court of Appeal is binding on them,” said attorney Chris Fleury, according to a press release from the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms (JCCF).
“My clients are happy to finally put these tickets and events behind them, and to do so in a way that ends the prosecution of other religious leaders who were ticketed in the Kitchener-Waterloo jurisdiction.”
The JCCF noted that COVID-era charges against eight pastors from Trinity Bible Chapel in Waterloo have now been “resolved” against them.
The JCCF, who helped represent the church along with its religious leaders, stated that Trinity Bible still must pay about $38,800, for violating gathering restriction limitations imposed by the Reopening Ontario Act, which was in place from late 2020 to 2022. During the Acts’ most restrictive phase, church services were limited to 10 people.
JCCF-backed lawyers argued that the violations against the church pastors went against their freedom of conscience and religion and their rights to expression, association, and peaceful assembly, and thus were not justified. The JCCF noted how the freedoms are “guaranteed protection by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.”
The pastors’ lawyers, as noted by the JCCF, negotiated “agreement whereby all charges against the elders of Trinity Bible Chapel have been stayed, along with all charges against religious leaders Michael Thiessen, Nathaniel Wright, and Jacob Reaume in connection to protests in Kitchener-Waterloo.”
“Trinity Bible Chapel will have one year to pay a $38,800 fine,” the JCCF said.
Ontario’s Superior Court of Justice and Court of Appeal in previous rulings has upheld the constitutionality of the province’s gathering restrictions.
Reaume, Trinity’s lead pastor, along with other church members faced major fines upward of $85,000, for allegedly breaking COVID regulations in 2020 and 2021.
Its fight against COVID charges hit a wall last year. In August, LifeSiteNews reported that Canada’s Supreme Court refused to hear two Ontario churches’ constitutional challenges to COVID-era restrictions, one of which was Trinity.
On August 10, the Supreme Court of Canada dismissed a further appeal from the Aylmer Church of God and Trinity Bible, which argued that the Ontario government violated their Charter-protected right to religious freedom through its COVID regulations.
The church had its doors shut by Ontario Justice John Krawchenko on April 30, 2021, because it would not follow the local COVID rules in place at the time which banned in-person worship.
The Centre pointed out the hypocrisy of placing 10-person limits on worship services while essential retail was permitted at 50 percent capacity with “social distancing.”
COVID-era mandates, which were in place in most of Canada from late 2020 until 2022, saw many restrictions placed against places of worship. As a result, many pastors who defied the mandates were jailed and others fined thousands of dollars. Charges against many pastors, however, were dropped in court.

Marco Rubio endorses Trump over DeSantis on eve of Iowa Caucus:
On the eve of the Iowa caucuses, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio (R) stood up to be counted among those looking to “get on with the work of beating Biden…”
As caucus-goers braced themselves against frigid subzero temperatures to partake in rallies for their preferred Republican presidential candidate, the one-time White House hopeful himself weighed in with a post on social media. Taking to X Sunday afternoon, Rubio continued his support of former President Donald Trump becoming the 24th senator to do so.
The rival from the 2016 GOP presidential primary shared a brief message to signal his support that read, “When Trump was in [the White House] I achieved major policies I had worked on for years (like expanded Child Tax Credit & tough sanctions on the regime in Cuba & Venezuela) because we had a President who didn’t cave to special interests or let bureaucrats block us.”
“I support Trump because that kind of leadership is the ONLY way we will get the extraordinary actions needed to fix the disaster Biden has created,” he continued. “It’s time to get on with the work of beating Biden & saving America!”
Rubio’s support for Trump came shortly after former 2024 candidate North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum had appeared in Iowa to endorse, and two days after Utah Sen. Mike Lee had contended that before a single vote had been cast in the primary “Whether you like Trump or not, Americans face a binary choice.”
As it happened, the president had joined Rubio for a rally the Sunday before the 2022 midterm election that clashed with a re-election rally for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, whom he had begun to snipe at more than six months before the executive, dubbed America’s Governor, would announce his own bid for the Republican nomination.
While many lauded the bevy of endorsements that Trump had received from federal officials, including more than 100 members of the House, others contrasted that with the support that candidates like DeSantis and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley had garnered at the state level.
National Review senior writer Dan McLaughlin touched on that as he challenged Rubio’s premise not long after the support for Trump came out.
“A second Trump term, even if one materializes, will do none of this sort of thing, nor will it employ people interested in doing so. If Trump had been president in 2010, he’d have prevented you from ever being nominated for the Senate,” he wrote on X before bringing up failed candidates from 2022. “Senators considering endorsing Trump should discuss with their colleagues Blake Masters, Herschel Walker, Mehmet Oz, & Don Bolduc.”

Nolan is too talented to turn a superhero yarn into a conservative screed, but there’s no denying his eat-the-rich villains ape the worst traits of that short-lived social movement.

Progressive actor James Cromwell stars as a husband struggling to keep his ailing wife by his side. To do so, he wants to build a special home to provide the right space for her needs. Local bureaucrats won’t let him, pitting Cromwell’s character against Big Government. This fact-based drama is a beautiful ode to marriage and individual liberty.

Few saw this revisiting of a 2013 tragedy that took the lives of 19 fire fighters. Josh Brolin and Miles Teller star as men tasked with battling back infernos to save the innocent. The story celebrates sacrifice, honor, and commitment, all elements right-leaning audience would savor.
'Ghostbusters' (1984)
Four entrepreneurial ghostbusters battle both City Hall fat cats and Slimer the ghost to save the Big Apple. Our heroes, who flee academia to build a small business, note the difference between the two worlds. Dan Aykroyd’s Dr. Raymond Stantz puts it best: “Personally, I liked the university. They gave us money and facilities; we didn't have to produce anything! You've never been out of college! You don't know what it's like out there! I've worked in the private sector. They expect results.”
'Dallas Buyers Club' (2013)
Matthew McConaughey won an Oscar for playing an AIDS-stricken man scrambling to treat his fatal illness. His character’s frustration with FDA paperwork leads him to work around the system, delivering potentially lifesaving drugs to fellow AIDS patients in the process. Hollywood championed a film targeting Big Government in no uncertain terms.
'South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut' (1999)
The Comedy Central series is always a few years ahead of the pop culture curve. That proved true again in the show’s first full-length feature film. The boys run headfirst into a censorship buzz saw, a storyline brimming with the show’s unexpurgated humor.
'Avatar: The Way of Water' (2022)
Director James Cameron may be progressive to the core, but his films often showcase the power of family. Remember Ripley’s maternal side saving the day in 1986’s “Aliens?” That’s particularly true with this blockbuster sequel, which focuses on the nuclear family amidst the beautiful CGI scenery. The main characters will go to any length to protect their children, all the while imparting valuable lessons to their brood.
'Godzilla Minus One' (2023)
The best Godzilla movie ever made features several compelling subplots sure to delight red-state viewers. Our hero (Ryunosuke Kamiki) becomes a surrogate father to a toddler who lost her parents during the final days of World War II. His fellow Japanese citizens, weary of war following their nation’s surrender, rally their courage to defend their homeland against a big green lizard. That patriotism against insurmountable odds supercharges the film’s finale.
'Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe' (2022)
There’s nothing conservative about these mouth-breathing troglodytes on paper. Tell that to creator Mike Judge, who revived the babbling duo with an eye on mocking the left. The story pokes fun at soft-on-crime policies one moment, then compares Antifa to MS-13 the next. Later, the ne’er-do-wells stumble onto a college campus, where they embrace their so-called “white privilege” to grand comic effect.
'Borat' (2006)
Sacha Baron Cohen’s irreverent romp tries to mock American pieties via the main character, a racist, sexist joker. Instead, the “Candid Camera”-style sequences reveal flyover country dwellers to be patient, kind, and brimming with tolerance. It’s still a deeply funny movie, but Cohen’s satirical targets have the last laugh.
'The Incredibles' (2004)
This Pixar triumph doubles as a Randian ode to excellence. The Incredibles clan must hang up their superhero tights when the government forbids them to flex their powers. Unbowed, our heroes save the day anyway, proving their exceptional gifts shouldn’t be stunted by any government body.
'Lost in America' (1985)
Director/star Albert Brooks said he made this gem in response to 1969’s “Easy Rider.” Dropping out, Brooks argued, isn’t as easy or cool as it looks. So he fashioned a tale of two yuppies attempting to live out their hippie flower power dreams until Julie Hagerty’s character blows the couple’s financial nest egg in one ill-fated night at a casino. Turns out a steady, 9-to-5 gig isn’t the worst thing in the world.
'Gran Torino' (2008)
Clint Eastwood knows a thing or two about conservative storytelling. Here, he plays a cranky racist who befriends a teen and his Hmong-American neighbors. Eastwood’s Walt appears to be a relic, a product of his dysfunctional past. He’s willing to change with the times and not only rallies to the Hmong community but lays his life on the line for them. Honor. Sacrifice. Valor. They matter to Walt more than ever, and those values are handed down to his new friends.
'Knocked Up' (2007)
Director Judd Apatow is a dyed-in-the-wool liberal, but his films often sneak in conservative values. In “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” our hero waits until his wedding night to consummate his marriage. Here, an arrested development type (Seth Rogen) impregnates a beautiful news researcher (Katherine Heigl) after one drunken date. The two decide not only to keep the baby but to see if they can work as a couple for the baby’s benefit.
'Rocky' (1976)
Sylvester Stallone’s triumphant debut as star and screenwriter is the American dream come to life (both on- and offscreen). A nobody boxer gets the chance of a lifetime, and he’s got the heart of a champion even if he doesn’t realize it. Hustle. Endurance. Faith. It’s all here, and “Rocky” has inspired a generation of Americans to reach for their dreams.
'Barbershop: The Next Cut' (2016)
Ice Cube is one of Hollywood’s most intriguing entrepreneurs. His presence here helps sell that message and then some. The main characters, dealing with a rise in gang violence, refuse to wait on the government to save them. They praise two-parent families as a cultural balm for their community. One barbershop member even questions how much President Barack Obama actually did for black America.
'Kingsman: The Secret Service' (2014)
The spy thriller packs plenty of action along with a nasty swipe at people of faith mid-movie. Yet the film’s villain, played by the always engaging Samuel L. Jackson, would feel right at home as a HuffPo contributor. Jackson’s character is an extreme environmentalist who wants to wipe out most of humanity to help heal the planet. Then, and only then, can humanity rebuild on his preferred terms.
'A Quiet Place' (2018)
You won’t find a better ode to pro-life parenthood than this monster movie. John Krasinski and Emily Blunt play parents trying to keep their children safe from aliens who track and kill their prey based on sound. When Blunt’s character becomes pregnant, they decide to keep the child, knowing that the baby's perfectly normal screams could put them all in danger. They’ll find a way, their actions tell us, no matter what.
'Wish' (2023)
Disney capped off a terrible, awful 2023 with a film celebrating the company’s 100th anniversary. “Wish” flopped, which meant the story’s conservative messaging fell on deaf ears. “Wish” follows a benevolent dictator (Chris Pine) who hoards the people’s wishes and makes them a reality – on his terms. The film suggests the best way for people’s wishes to come true is to make them happen themselves and not rely on any government to help.
Just about every Romance-Comedy [Rom-Com]
Boy meets girl. Boy loses girl (briefly). Boy and girl walk down the aisle (or make it abundantly clear that’s where they’re heading). Rom-coms are conservative by nature, and most adhere to a rigorous formula that sends moviegoers swooning.

Yuval Noah Harari, one of Barack Obama’s favorite authors and a frequent speaker at Davos, made some shocking statements in an interview with Steven Bartlett, a British YouTuber who runs the channel The Diary of a CEO. Harari frequently posits the idea that human beings are “hackable” creatures lacking true free will. In a past interview, he raised “the big political and economic question of the 21st century,” which is “What do we need humans for? Supreme Court makes first abortion ruling since they overturned Roe v. Wade, and it has Pro-Lifers Cheering:
After the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v. Wade, a number of states have passed strong pro-life legislation.
And the pro-abortion lobby has tried to get them overturned.
But now the Supreme Court has made its first abortion ruling since they overturned Roe v. Wade, and it has pro-lifers cheering.
Idaho’s pro-life abortion law can go into effect, according to a recent order from the U.S. Supreme Court.
A good start, but not done yet
The decision was involving a case that marks the first time that the court has weighed in on a state’s criminal law on abortion since it overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022.
The Supreme Court determined that Idaho could enforce the Defense of Life Act, which outlaws most abortions except in specific circumstances.
Under the Idaho law, a provider who conducts an abortion can face up to five years in prison and the suspension or revocation of his or her license.
Idaho enacted the law in 2020, and then after the Supreme Court reversed Roe in June of 2022, which returned regulatory authority over abortion back to the states, the law went into effect.
The Supreme Court has agreed to hear arguments in April about the Idaho law, putting on hold a lower court ruling based on an August 2022 lawsuit filed by the Biden administration.
That suit claims the Gem State’s abortion ban interfered with a federal law requiring hospitals that receive Medicare funds to provide emergency care.
Specifically, the U.S. Justice Department argues that the law forces doctors to violate the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act.
A lower court sided with the administration and blocked the Idaho law from going into effect.
But the Supreme Court’s decision allows the law to go into effect until their ruling on the case, which will be heard in their June session.

Brandi Swindell, the founder and CEO of Stanton Healthcare, a pro-life medical clinic in Idaho, applauded the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the Defense of Life Act.
She said the law “protects innocent children from abortion violence and women from abortion abuse.”
Swindell also pointed out the Idaho law does allow for exceptions if the pregnancy poses a threat to the mother’s life or is a result of rape or incest.
“It is critical that Idaho’s emergency rooms are not turned into ‘abortion clinics,'” Swindell said in a statement provided to The Christian Post.
“At Stanton Healthcare, we will continue to provide exceptional medical care, tangible support and hope to women facing unexpected pregnancies as we work to make abortion unthinkable and end abortion abuse,” she continued.
The White House issued a statement in response to the Supreme Court’s decision.
President Joe Biden used the decision to call on Congress to restore the “protections of Roe v. Wade” and referred to Idaho’s abortion law as “dangerous.”
He then repeated the administration’s ridiculous claim that the Idaho law will make it harder for doctors to provide emergency medical care.
“These bans are also forcing doctors to leave Idaho and other states because of laws that interfere with their ability to care for their patients,” Biden stated. “This should never happen in America.”
“The Vice President and I believe that health care decisions should be made by women and their doctors, not politicians. We will continue to defend a woman’s ability to access emergency care under federal law,” the president continued. “As this case continues, the stakes could not be higher for women across America. Congress must immediately restore the protections of Roe v. Wade so that women in every state can access the health care they need.”
But under Idaho’s Defense of Life Act, an abortion is not a criminal act if a provider determines, based on “good faith medical judgment,” that an abortion is necessary to save the life of the mother.

Pollster Frank Luntz declared last year that Donald Trump "could never win" the 2024 presidential election. Now, Luntz says he would bet six figures that Trump does win.
Speaking on a New York Times podcast, Luntz said last May:
If Donald Trump runs for president, as a Republican, he’s the odds-on favorite to win the nomination. He could never win a general election. But I can’t imagine losing a Republican primary. That’s how significant he is within the GOP. ... I would bet on him to be the nominee. And I would bet on him losing to whatever Democratic nominee there was.
But the Republican pollster now believes Trump is the odds-on favorite to win the 2024 election.
In a video posted to social media last week, Luntz is asked, "If you had to bet $150,000 on who's going to win in November, who would you bet on?"
Clearly uncomfortable with what he was about to say, Luntz squirmed as he admitted that he would bet the large sum of money on Trump to defeat President Joe Biden in a re-match.
"I never dreamed that I would say this, but I would bet on Trump," Luntz admitted.
"Never — I thought it was done. I thought it was over. You don't come back from an impeachment. You don't come back from Jan. 6. You don't come back from any of this, but he's come back," he explained. "The guy's a survivor, and his opponent is having so much trouble that I would, at this point, give the edge to Trump."
The admission is significant, not only because it demonstrates a complete departure from what Luntz said just eight months ago, but because it came from someone who has not hidden his disdain for Trump.
But Luntz has also maintained that he will not shy away from reporting the truth.
"I’m going to make a lot of people mad this year with my observations. But @FrankLuntz will be the place to check if you want the truth," Luntz said in response to the video of his prediction going viral.
Indeed, there is no way an honest pollster can deny what the polls have shown for months: Trump is surging, and Biden is a deeply unpopular incumbent who will have a difficult time repeating a victory.

Electric vehicle ‘spontaneously’ catches fire in Centennial garage
DENVER (KDVR) — South Metro Fire Rescue and the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a garage fire on Wednesday morning and ended up transporting a still-smoldering electric vehicle from the scene.
The fire started in a garage in the 5500 block of Mobile Street in Centennial. Firefighters reported that two electric vehicles were inside the garage. One of the cars, a 2019 Jaguar I-PACE, was burning and a battery pack appeared damaged.
The vehicle was pulled out onto the driveway and an electric vehicle blanket was put over the car to control the fire. Crews looked to make sure the fire didn’t extend to the home and no injuries were reported.
“We woke up and our garage was in flames,” said David Frosh. He and his wife heard the smoke alarm and got out of the house unharmed.
“It appears that our Jaguar electric vehicle spontaneously caught fire,” he said.
A hazardous materials team was also called to the scene from Aurora Fire Rescue.
Crews loaded the still-blanket-wrapped electric vehicle onto a tow truck and hauled the burning car to a safe location in Parker, escorted by police and firefighters.
The vehicle was identified as a red 2019 Jaguar I-Pace which was charging when the fire occurred.
Fire investigators determined the fire started in the Jaguar, but the exact cause is unknown. The second vehicle in the garage, a hybrid, was also damaged in the fire.
Crews wrapped the second car in a fire blanket and removed it from the scene to prevent a possible rekindling.
Jaguar has recalled about 200 of its 2019-2023 I-PACE cars for a repair that could have been performed incorrectly, and according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, the company previously recalled hundreds of the vehicles over an issue that could cause the batteries to overheat.
South Metro Fire Rescue’s Eric Hurst said lithium-ion batteries are used in many things now, not just EVs.
“Electric vehicle fires are an emerging threat across the world right now,” said Eric Hurst with South Metro Fire Rescue. “We don’t want people to necessarily feel afraid of those, we just want them to better understand that there is a risk of fire.”
