More Than 2,800 Errors Identified in BC MAID Cases in 2024, Internal Report Finds

Health professionals in B.C. made 2,807 errors while managing more than 4,000 euthanasia cases in 2024, according to documents from the provincial health ministry.

The B.C. oversight unit for medical assistance in dying (MAID) identified 2,807 cases that required government “follow-up” from at least 4,169 MAID cases handled that year, according to the documents first obtained by the news outlet Canadian Catholic News through a freedom of information request.


The report’s text indicates that 4,169 individuals requested MAID in 2024, representing an almost 10 percent rise compared to 2023.


The MAID Oversight Unit reported discovering errors within 51.9 percent of MAID “case outcomes” that necessitated corrective “follow-up.” The unit defines follow-up as the process of acquiring missing information or providing clarification on existing details.

The report says that out of the thousands of errors, 353 cases, or roughly 12.5 percent, raised compliance issues and necessitated the “education” of practitioners and pharmacists to ensure they grasped MAID’s legal requirements and professional standards.


Data pertaining to the 4,169 MAID cases indicates that 72 percent of these individuals died because they received the procedure, the report said. An additional 23 percent died from other causes, 4 percent were deemed ineligible, and 1.4 percent of individuals decided to withdraw their request.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC) told The Epoch Times via email that it was unable to comment on findings of the oversight unit’s report.

“CPSBC’s role is to regulate individual physicians and surgeons in BC and ensure they provide safe care to their patients,” the email said. “CPSBC cannot comment on clinical, health or health system matters.”


The Epoch Times also contacted the province for comment on the report but did not hear back before publication time.


Euthanasia Prevention Coalition executive director Alex Schadenberg said the MAID oversight report showed there were “an incredible number of euthanasia errors” made in 2024.


“What is most concerning is that euthanasia concerns literally a life and death act,” he said in an email to The Epoch Times. “The law gives doctors and nurse practitioners an exception to the criminal code for homicide and yet there are compliance concerns in 12.5 percent of the deaths… and not one doctor was prosecuted, lost their medical license or even received serious sanctions.”


BC Data

British Columbia is one of the provinces with the highest incidence of MAID procedures.

Health Canada’s annual MAID report for 2024 showed it placed third behind Quebec and Ontario.


Health Canada statistics differ slightly from the B.C. oversight unit’s report. While B.C.’s stats vary between 4,169 and 4,190 requests for MAID, Health Canada’s count comes in at 4,177. It shows that 2,997 received the procedure, 957 died of other causes, 167 were deemed ineligible, and 56 withdrew their requests.


B.C.’s Medical Assistance in Dying Statistical Report for 2025 shows the number of procedures rose last year. A total of 3,189 people were given the life-ending procedure between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31.

The vast majority of those to receive MAID were older than 65 and evenly split between males and females, the report said.


Canada first legalized euthanasia in 2016 for eligible adults whose natural death was reasonably foreseeable. In 2021, Parliament expanded eligibility to include people with a grievous and irremediable illness, disease, or disability, whose natural death is not reasonably foreseeable.


Further expansion of eligibility to those whose sole underlying medical condition is mental illness has been delayed until 2027 after repeated postponements amid concerns about the system’s readiness.

Drag Queen Sues non-profit for pointing out shocking content on his own website

A Kelowna drag performer is suing a Canadian non-profit for defamation for describing content he posted himself on his own website.

It's as crazy as it sounds... and if he wins, it could set a dangerous precedent for parents, journalists, and advocacy groups who publicly question what drag performers are showing to children.


Action4Canada is the non-profit being sued, and Tyson Cook, who goes by his stage name "Freida Whales," is the performer and Kelowna education assistant behind the lawsuit.

The case stems from a 2023 petition in which Action4Canada questioned why Cook's publicly available online content, featuring graphic depictions of murder and cannibalism alongside sexually suggestive material, sat on the same web page he uses to promote his drag storytime shows for kids.


Cook says the group's words damaged his reputation. Action4Canada says it simply pointed to content Cook posted himself — and that pointing it out isn't hate, it's fair comment.

I sat in on the BC Supreme Court hearing last week, and the arguments made about the limits of free speech in this country will surprise you.


Action4Canada's petition gathered close to 20,000 signatures, calling on the City of Kelowna to end what it calls taxpayer-funded sexualization of children, and asking the local school district to reassess whether Cook should keep working as an education assistant.


The judge has set September 1 as the date to explain her ruling directly to the public.

The real question here has nothing to do with drag and everything to do with what you're allowed to say about it. Do Canadians still have the right to say "I don't think this is appropriate for kids" without being dragged into court for it?

STRAIT TALK: The Iran war is back, almost like it never left. Will Americans’ inflation headaches follow?

After renewed attacks by both sides this weekend continued with a fresh Iranian assault today, President Donald Trump declared the U.S. will take over the Strait of Hormuz, reintroduce its naval blockade of Iranian ports — and, for the first time, charge a 20 percent fee on maritime cargo.


That plan would mirror Iran’s tolls on traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, which less than three weeks ago led Secretary of State Marco Rubio to say that doing so violates international law: “No country is allowed to charge tolls or fees on an international waterway.” Trump framed the move as reimbursement for the U.S. providing security in the region.


Trump declared the U.S. henceforth will be “THE GUARDIAN OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT,” and U.S. Central Command said the reimposed blockade will start to be enforced later today. Meanwhile, Iranian hard-liners escalated their threats and demands for revenge over Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s killing. Tehran’s attacks today went after U.S. military assets in Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait and Oman. “We will not, under any circumstances, allow the United States to interfere in the management of the Strait of Hormuz,” an Iranian military official warned today.


“We’re going to hit [Iran] very hard and keep the strait,” Trump said on Fox News this morning. “We guarded the strait for 50 years and never got paid for it.” Trump blamed Iran for undermining the countries’ agreement with its recent attacks on ships in the strait. More from POLITICO’s Riya Misra


The higher tensions and growing violence bring the conflict closer to where it stood before last month’s provisional peace deal, with the ceasefire collapsing and the global economy bracing for impact. Even though attacks haven’t returned to the more damaging levels of the war’s early days, the countries’ feud over whether the strait is open — and who controls it — has now unwound nearly all of the progress in the memorandum of understanding they signed.


For American politics, the most immediate question is how the renewed war and blockade will affect oil and shipping, potentially pushing prices higher again after the conflict’s earlier phases spiked inflation stateside. A handful of ships have secretly managed to get through the strait in recent days, Bloomberg’s Weilun Soon reports.


But oil prices rose higher today, ticking up roughly 5 percent while still remaining well below this spring’s highs.

If that trend continues, it’ll come at a difficult moment for Republicans. Though the war’s unpopularity and inflationary effects had dampened their midterm hopes, gas prices came down more quickly than economists expected after the ceasefire. That had left some GOP strategists feeling more optimistic lately about the elections, NBC’s Matt Dixon reports, compounded by campaign finance boosts and gerrymanders that snatched Democratic districts away.


Now gas prices could push higher again. Inflation will be top of mind this week as the newest monthly data comes out tomorrow — at the same time that Fed Chair Kevin Warsh kicks off two days of congressional testimony.


And in the long term, from the war to tariffs to AI infrastructure, American businesses are increasingly prepared for inflation to linger and worsen for quite some time, WaPo’s Andrew Ackerman reports. Plenty of companies envision price increases coming soon, as their supply chains are squeezed from every direction.


“Republicans have to worry about every election while that continues,” American Action Forum president Douglas Holtz-Eakin told the Post.

1. THE NEXT SENATOR: South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster is holding a presser to announce his interim pick to replace the late Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) at 4 p.m. McMaster plans to select someone who won’t run in the election for a full six-year term, per Fox News’ Chad Pergram. And it looks like Republicans are moving fast to make it Darline Graham Nordone, Graham’s sister, and get her to Washington quickly.


Trump weighed in this morning with his preference for Nordone. Fox reports she’ll be at the announcement with Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and is expected to be sworn in on Wednesday. More from POLITICO’s Alec Hernández and colleagues

Reached by phone today, Nordone simply told the N.Y. Post’s Josh Christenson, “Actually, I’m just kind of like devastated right now.”


2. QUITE THE REBUKE: A federal judge excoriated Trump for his now-settled lawsuit against the IRS, recommending his lawyers face discipline and sanctions for bringing a case for an “improper purpose,” per POLITICO’s Hassan Ali Kanu and Kyle Cheney. Kathleen Williams, an Obama appointee, didn’t kill the agreement that gave Trump and his family immunity from tax scrutiny. But she concluded Trump sued an agency he controls “to earmark billions of dollars from American taxpayers to redress grievances not defined in the law,” using illegitimate legal means for self-dealing.


3. DEMOCRACY WATCH: “Trump election task force to begin releasing classified intel documents,” by MS NOW’s David Rohde and colleagues: “A new White House task force reviewing thousands of pages of classified intelligence and law enforcement documents for evidence of irregularities in U.S. elections is expected to begin releasing documents within weeks … The Office of the Director of National Intelligence, whose acting chief, Bill Pulte, has been accused by Democrats of politically weaponizing federal government information, will be part of the effort.”


4. HEADS UP: Maine and federal authorities are investigating after a shooting today involving federal agents left a man dead in Biddeford, per the Portland Press Herald. While early information hasn’t been confirmed, eyewitnesses said they saw a man shot in the head, and Rep. Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) said there were reports that ICE officers shot him. An immigrant rights group identified him as a 26-year-old from Colombia with a Social Security number and work authorization. One eyewitness said the man, who was in a car, told agents “I tried to stop” as he died.


This could quickly become a flashpoint in Maine Democrats’ rapid selection of a replacement Senate nominee: Troy Jackson attended a protest in Biddeford, and the other leading candidates all vowed to hold ICE accountable or support immigrant communities. (Meanwhile, Graham Platner ally and state Rep. Valli Geiger said she wouldn’t run, instead backing Secretary of State Shenna Bellows.)

More immigration files: Three federal agencies said today that banks and credit unions should further limit loans to unauthorized immigrants, advising financial institutions to consider them higher-risk, POLITICO’s Michael Stratford reports. … A new investigation from The New Yorker’s Jonathan Blitzer dives into Camp East Montana, the country’s biggest immigrant detention center, where detainees said they experienced awful conditions and were denied medication. (DHS said it’s “categorically false” that there are “inhumane” conditions.)


5. CASH DASH: Sherrod Brown’s Ohio Democratic Senate campaign and affiliated committees pulled in a whopping $17.1 million in the second quarter, they announced. … Rep. Mike Lawler’s (R-N.Y.) reelect raised $1.4 million in Q2 and went into the second half of the year with $4.85 million in the bank.


6. IT’S ELECTRIC: A forthcoming White House initiative will have data center and utility companies voluntarily agree to prevent Americans from suffering big power-bill increases due to AI, Reuters’ Jarrett Renshaw and Laila Kearney report. Similar to the pledge that Big Tech companies signed at the White House earlier this year, it’s an effort to blunt concerns about data centers gobbling up the electric grid and driving rates higher. Governors of big data-center states may also be included.


7. BY THE NUMBERS: A report today from HHS’ IG says the office pulled in $5.56 billion in “expected recoveries and projected savings” from October through March, per Reuters’ Ahmed Aboulenein. Notably, the office has changed how it calculates these savings, including expected repayments that haven’t been collected. The topline number comes despite the overall number of criminal and civil actions dropping to a two-year low — which aligns more with a narrative about the Trump administration shrinking government than with one about accelerating a health care fraud crackdown.

ANTITRUST THE PROCESS — A dozen states made it official today, bringing a federal lawsuit to try to halt the Paramount acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, POLITICO’s Daniel Miller reports from LA. Why the Left continually demonizes the world's freest and least bigoted nation as 'RACIST!'

 

Underlying most of the civilization-destroying events and trends in today's America is an extraordinarily powerful – yet deceptive, and thus largely unrecognized – common denominator.

 

But first, what kind of events and trends? Here are just a few:

* The full-scale foreign invasion of the United States of America across its southern border, reaching an estimated 14 million illegal aliens during the Joe Biden presidency, which purposely permitted and enabled the human tsunami that included thousands of murderers, rapists, kidnappers, gang members, sex-traffickers, drug-dealers, Chinese spies and Islamic terrorists. Top investigative journalist and #1 New York Times bestselling author Peter Schweizer recently likened this gargantuan influx of criminal illegal aliens to an "attack" on America on par with 9/11 and Pearl Harbor.

 

* Major riots in the last few months in key American cities from New York City to San Francisco, but most notoriously Minneapolis – all in response to the deployment of federal law enforcement officers to root out and arrest criminal illegals in hopes of mitigating the upsurge in violent crime they have caused. Officials with the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement cited over 10,000 arrests of "criminal illegal aliens" in Minnesota – and yet, the police were treated as the villains and the illegal-alien criminals as the innocent victims. (The recent Minneapolis riots in many ways reprise that city's "mostly peaceful" George Floyd riots back in 2020, which resulted in 624 arsons, 97 burned police vehicles, over 16,000 arrests and more than 2,000 injured police officers.)


Minnesota, of course, is also where massive multi-billion-dollar Somali fraud has been ongoing for at least 13 years, with the full knowledge – and thus approval – of elected leaders. In fact, the House Oversight Committee determined that not only did Gov. Tim Walz know about widespread Somali Medicaid fraud totaling $9 billion, yet fail to act – but he retaliated against whistleblowers!

 

* The indoctrination of young white children in public schools to identify as descendants of racists, segregationists and slaveholders, who thus should feel guilt and shame – and the indoctrination of little black children to identify as victims of racism and therefore in need of reparations … and perhaps revenge.

 

* The demand, adopted by much of corporate America, and until Trump's 2024 election, by the U.S. government, that everyone from air traffic controllers to cardiac surgeons – and in Joe Biden's case, to vice president, whom he promised early-on would be a woman – must be hired not according to merit, experience and expertise, but in accord with the shadowy dictates of "Diversity, Equity and Inclusion." That is, giving great weight to applicants' race, gender and sexual orientation.

 

In keeping with this bizarre diversity-worship mandate, Biden also appointed Dr. Rachel Levine, a frankly ridiculous-looking long-haired, lipstick-using man pretending to be a woman, as a top leader at the Department of Health and Human Services. Biden likewise appointed Sam Brinton, a "nonbinary," "they-them"-pronoun-using, dress-wearing, lipstick-using, mustache-and-goatee-sporting "biological man" who repeatedly stole women's luggage at airports so he could revel in their underwear – yes, really – to a critical position in the federal Office of Nuclear Energy.

 

In plain language, DEI amounts to giving preference in hiring, college admissions and job promotions – and even critical life-and-death leadership positions – to "black and brown people," women, those identifying as gay, lesbian or transgender, and essentially all other people considered members of "minorities" or "marginalized" and "underserved communities" suffering from "discrimination" or "bigotry."

 

Basically, anyone other than straight white American men.

By now, the mysterious "common denominator" referenced at the outset of this report should be obvious: The political and cultural Left in America, including not only almost all Democratic Party politicians, but their "mainstream media" echo chamber as well and much of popular culture, unceasingly promote the narrative that America in 2026 is RACIST and drowning in white supremacy, prejudice and bigotry of every kind.

 

This stance is so strong – for many, it's their central and only operating principle – that some are now openly calling for non-white people to literally take control of America.

Oh, one other important point before moving on: Most Democrat politicians don't really believe any of this madness. Deep down they know America, whatever its faults may be, is arguably the least racist nation on earth. Which of course is precisely why tens of millions of foreigners of every race, color and creed come to America and not some other destination, because it is not a racist nation.

 

Thus, all the shrill, never-ending condemnations of "racist, bigoted America" – just like the continual comparisons of President Donald Trump to "Hitler" and Republicans to "Nazis" and "fascists" – is all a ruse, a show, a cynical but effective power play. Many corrupt and profoundly unworthy people adopt it as their one and only means of 1) appearing righteous and moral, while 2) acquiring real power, wealth and privilege in today's America.

 

Beyond that, it also constitutes their secret weapon – as Barack Obama ominously promised just days before being elected president in 2008 – for "fundamentally transforming the United States of America."

Why is all this happening, and where is it really coming from?

 

'Oppressors' and 'oppressed'

Read the following statement, then before continuing, pause for a moment and guess who recently said this about 2026 America:

"Racism permeates the police, the courts, and the prison system, perpetuating unequal sentencing, racial profiling, discriminatory enforcement, police brutality, police killings, immigrant deportations, and separation of immigrant families – even to the extent of ripping babies from their mothers' arms."

 

Surprise, that's from the Communist Party USA (online at CPUSA.org).

"But wait," some might object, especially if their understanding of communism is based on what they learned in school. "What's all this talk about 'racism'? I thought communism was all about, you know, the oppression of the working class by the evil capitalists, who own the means of production! 'Workers of the world, unite!' Right?"

Wrong.

 

Such a hopelessly anachronistic explanation of communism is intended to disguise the intense neo-Marxist revolutionary efforts currently ripping apart today's America.

For in reality, although Marx's original paradigm more than 175 years ago did indeed focus on oppression of the working class ("proletariat") by the rich capitalists ("bourgeoisie"), Marxists have long recognized that the whole Russian prototype would fail miserably in America, which has long been blessed with a vast, broad, productive, patriotic and largely contented middle class.

 

So, "oppression of the working class" by rich bourgeois capitalist pigs could never be a winning issue in America – since it's so obviously untrue.

Thus, neo-Marxist strategists had to come up with a more workable "oppressors-versus-oppressed" paradigm if they were going to sell the communism mega-scam to America.

And they found it – in "RACISM!"

First, grammatically, John could be describing HOW Jesus will return. The Greek word “soon” (tachos) can be translated “shortly,” or it can be rendered as “quickly” or “suddenly.” This is where we get our modern word tachometer (a device that measures the RPM’s of car engines). This is not a bizarre translation: Elsewhere, we see that this same term is translated as “quickly.”

 

The angel tells Peter to wake up “quickly” (Acts 12:7). When referring to the Second Coming, Jesus stated, “[God] will bring about justice for them quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?” (Lk. 18:8). Likewise, Paul writes that God will “soon” (tachei) crush Satan under our feet (Rom. 16:20). Amillennialists and Postmillennialists think that Jesus bound Satan through his death and resurrection in AD 33, and Satan is currently bound in the Church Age.

 

However, even these theologians agree that Satan was not “crushed” soon after Paul wrote Romans (AD 56-57). This means that there is a gap of time between when Paul wrote that Satan would “soon” be crushed, and when he will eventually be crushed at the Second Coming.

 

Therefore, under this view, John is saying that once the first domino falls, the rest will fall quickly after them. These future events are closely stacked together. Paul Benware writes, “These words are not to be understood as chronological indicators telling the reader when the Lord is returning. Rather, they are to be taken as qualitative indicators describing how the Lord Jesus will return. He will return ‘suddenly.’”

Beware bad Computer Batteries

  • • A swollen battery should be considered damaged and unsafe for continued use.
