Trump REFUSES to meet with Carney President Trump says he won’t meet with Prime Minister Mark Carney “for a while,” accusing Canada of airing a “fake” anti-tariff ad and then apologizing only after being caught.
On today’s episode of Straight Up, Marc Patrone breaks down the diplomatic fallout after President Trump said he has no intention of meeting with Mark Carney following the Ontario government’s airing of a “fake” anti-tariff ad that Trump claims insulted him personally — and reviewed by Carney and his office before airing on TV.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford insists he has “no regrets,” calling it the most successful ad campaign in North American history. But sources say the president was already irritated by Ford’s earlier criticism, and the Reagan ad was the last straw.
Carney confirmed he hasn’t spoken with Trump since the fallout, telling reporters to “take the President at his word” when asked if Doug Ford’s ad is the reason the President broke off trade talks.
Marc is joined by former Liberal MP Dan McTeague, who says a trade deal was nearly finalized before the ad scandal derailed it. McTeague calls the situation “a fumbled deal on the half-yard line,” blaming arrogance and mismanagement inside the Carney government.
With the Carney budget days away, and warnings of looming cuts and credit downgrades, McTeague says Canada’s credibility has never been weaker.

Can you believe anything Mark Carney claims about his career?
It’s a serious question, because he didn’t tell one lie on Tuesday night as the Liberals were holding their leadership debate, he told two serious lies.
“It was my privilege to work with Paul Martin when he balanced the books and kept the books balanced,” Carney said during Tuesday’s debate.
Here’s the problem with that statement: Mark Carney, according to his own resume on his LinkedIn profile, never worked with Paul Martin while he was balancing the books as Jean Chretien’s finance minister.
Martin introduced his first budget to take Canada back to balance on Feb. 27, 1995, and over the next several years did the hard work so that it was balanced in 1998. The plan was to make changes to Canada’s economy and government spending to bring about the first balanced budget in nearly 30 years.
But Mark Carney wasn’t working for the federal government at that time, he was still working for Goldman Sachs, the major Wall Street firm. Or according to some reports, he was a student at Oxford University.
Did he ever work with Paul Martin when the former PM was finance minister to help balance the budget?
No, not at all.
Carney’s public resume states he left Goldman Sachs to take a position as Deputy Governor at the Bank of Canada in 2003. In 2004 he took a new position as senior associate deputy minister of finance, but by that point Paul Martin was prime minister, and the budget had long been balanced.
Yet, there is Carney talking about his role in working with Paul Martin in balancing the budget. A few weeks ago, a friend claimed Carney was guilty of the political equivalent of what in the military is called “stolen valour.”
Stolen valour is the act of claiming ownership of deeds or actions that you have no right to lay claim to.
Carney is being viscously and openly mocked online with memes showing him in other jobs and positions he has never held. Claims that Carney invented the lightbulb, was the Fifth Beatle, wrote the Magna Carta and built the Great Wall of China.
All of this comes days after Carney was called out for stating he had no involvement in the decision to move the headquarters of Brookfield Asset Management from Toronto to New York City. Carney was chair of the board for Brookfield when they voted unanimously for the move last October and then he signed a letter encouraging shareholders asking them to support the deal in December 2024.
Now, he and his team are trying to claim that because the decision taken by the board last fall was formalized in January, that he had nothing to do with it. That simply isn’t believable given how involved Carney was in the decision.
“Mark Carney needs to come out of hiding and answer questions for the lies that he’s told to Canadians,” Conservative MP Michael Barrett said Friday.
Carney has refused to clearly answer questions about both of these lies with his campaign dodging and weaving.
All of this on top of Carney also claiming he saved Canada’s economy during the 2008-09 financial crisis. Sure, he played a role as part of a team with then-prime minister Stephen Harper and his finance minister Jim Flaherty.
The truth is, though, that Carney’s part of that grand effort would have been dwarfed by the fiscal, budgetary and political actions and decisions taken by Harper and Flaherty.
Carney is making claims about having done things he hasn’t or exaggerating his role, while also denying moving the Brookfield HQ when we clearly have the proof. The man who is about to win the Liberal leadership race and become our next prime minister, but he’s also showing he has a problem with the truth.

After Russian President Vladimir Putin tested new “invincible” nuclear missiles, Donald Trump issued a strong warning in response. “They know we have a nuclear submarine, the greatest in the world, right off their shore,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One before departing for Japan. On Sunday, Putin announced a successful 15-hour, 8,700 mile test of a nuclear powered missile called a “flying Chernobyl” they say could strike targets in the U.S.
This marks the first time Trump has used this sort of rhetoric as he seeks a resolution in the Russia-Ukraine war. This follows Trump cancelling a planned meeting with Putin, and announcing new sanctions that targeted Russia’s two largest oil companies. Trump recently rebuffed Zelensky’s request for tomahawk missiles, but did leave open the possibility.

Zohran Mamdani recently tried to somehow make Muslims the real victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks, and suggested that his aunt was a victim of the tragedy because she didn’t feel safe wearing her hijab on the New York City subway afterwards. However, according to the National Pulse, some social media sleuths have identified his only aunt on his father’s side on social media - and discovered that she lived in Tanzania in 2001 and doesn’t wear a hijab.
With this lie exposed, it’s predictable that Mamdani will simply claim that he was using the term “aunt” loosely, and he used it in a way to mean “family friend.” Speaking of Mamdani’s family - his father said during a 2022 panel discussion that Adolf Hitler drew inspiration for the Holocaust from Abraham Lincoln, and blasted America as the “genesis of what we call settler-colonialism” globally. He probably should avoid drawing any more attention to this family.
INSIDE JASMINE CROCKETT’S FINANCIAL NON-DISCLOSURE
A report from the Washington Free Beacon revealed that Crockett failed to disclose ownership of at least 25 company stocks and over $110,000 in debts during her 2022 congressional campaign and upon entering Congress in 2023, despite previously admitting to these holdings as a Texas state legislator.Records obtained by the Beacon show Crockett owned shares in major corporations, including Amazon, ExxonMobil, Johnson & Johnson,
AstraZeneca, Ford, and several cannabis companies, many of which could benefit from her legislative work. Crockett’s undisclosed holdings appear at odds with her progressive image and environmental advocacy. She has championed marijuana decriminalization both in Texas and in Congress while personally owning a 20% stake in Black Diamond Investments, a firm that sought marijuana dispensary licenses in Ohio.
Her advocacy for COVID-19 vaccine mandates also benefited pharmaceutical companies in which she held stock.Additionally, Crockett failed to report large personal debts to banks and a private individual connected to a home she rented.

Congressional Democrats now have pressure on them from an unexpected source: the largest union representing federal workers, the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE). The AFGE represents 800,000 federal workers.AFGE president Everett Kelley wrote in a statement “It’s time to pass a clean continuing resolution and end this shutdown today.”

People who believe the Crusades were somehow bad inevitably are wrong about both Christian and Muslim histories, and about the infamous and barbaric treatment of Christians under invading Muslim armies in Spain, Portugal and France between 711 and 1492.

During the Third Reich the Nazi admiration of Turkey was elevated to what could be called a “twinning” with the Third Reich – the New Turkey and the New Germany were portrayed like “twin states” and Kemalism and National Socialism as twin movements, similar in almost every fashion. In the beginning, however, many texts and politicians stressed that the “New Turkey” was much further ahead on the path of nationalist (völkisch) reconstruction than the New Germany. The Nazis promised they would do their best to catch up soon.
In 1933 all that changed. Now the Nazis’ fandom of Ataturk and his “New Turkey” could be expressed openly again. And right in the first year of the “Third Reich,” in 1933, the Nazis celebrated their role model Turkey in a variety of ways. One of them was Hitler calling Ataturk his “shining star in the darkness” – a phrase which was to become the official line on Turkey in the Third Reich.
I was struck when I read that Ataturk died the day after the infamous Kristallnacht. Were the two events connected in any way?
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was not a founder of the Young Turks but was a member and influential figure in the movement's prominent political organization, the Committee of Union and Progress (CUP). He became a vocal critic of the CUP's leadership and policies after they came to power.
Atatürk's association with the Young Turks
Early involvement: As a young military officer, Atatürk joined the CUP in 1908. He participated in the 1908 Young Turk Revolution, which forced the Ottoman sultan to restore the constitution and parliament.
Growing criticism: Atatürk soon became disillusioned with the CUP's elite, secretive methods. He believed military officers should stay out of politics and clashed with other key leaders, particularly Enver Pasha.
Later separation: When he led the Turkish War of Independence after World War I, Atatürk deliberately distanced himself from the Young Turk legacy. This was partly because the CUP's leadership had been discredited by their role in the war and atrocities like the Armenian genocide.
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's major role was the founding of the modern
and serving as its first president from 1923 until his death in 1938. As a revolutionary statesman and military leader, he led Turkey through its War of Independence and implemented a comprehensive and ambitious program of modernization and secularization known as Kemalism.
So, both Hitler and Erdogan share in admiration for Ataturk (founder of the Young Turks). Both stated their intentions to build his dream government. Hitler the Fuhrer, Erdogan the Sultan. And I expect Erdogan will follow Hitler's example in making a deal with Moscow to invade Europe.
