This massacre was not an isolated incident, but rather the predictable result of years of government policies allowing Jew hatred in the streets.


But it wasn't just the pro-Hamas protests that brought Australia to the point of murdering Jews, lighting a menorah. It was also more universal policies, the type of politics that Canada knows all too well:


• Mass, unvetted immigration from extremist regions• Political and media tolerance for open Hamas support• Laws that disarm law-abiding citizens while empowering criminals• Police and politicians who refuse to name Islamist terror for what it is

Instead of confronting Islamic extremism, Australia’s leaders are already blaming “right-wing extremism” and calling for more gun control.

 So, we have to ask: if these conditions produced a massacre in Sydney, why wouldn’t they create one in Toronto, Montreal, or Ottawa?

Canada is now following the same path.

Public discourse in Canada is increasingly shaped by social media fragments, slogans, and activist pressure rather than knowledge or responsibility. Israel is routinely described as a demonic force. Zionism is portrayed as inherently criminal. And because the vast majority of Canadian Jews support Israel’s existence, identify with it, and care deeply about its security, Canadian Jews are increasingly treated as moral suspects and legitimate targets of intimidation.


This is not theoretical. It is visible across Canadian streets and campuses, where intimidation of Jewish students, disruptions of classes, and the normalization of anti-Israel agitation have become routine rather than exceptional. Politicians, local enforcements, and university administrations increasingly respond not by enforcing boundaries, but by retreating behind vague appeals to “free speech,” even when that speech crosses into harassment and exclusion. The message is clear: Jewish discomfort is a price institutions are willing to pay for ideological quiet.

This is where Canada stands today.


Anyone who believes this trajectory cannot culminate in violence similar to the Bondi massacre is either profoundly naive or willfully blind. Social atmospheres have consequences. When demonization becomes legitimate, and institutions refuse to draw lines, violence does not remain hypothetical.


I am stating this clearly: the warnings were visible and ignored in Australia. They are visible and being ignored in Canada. Canadian officials, Canadian institutions, and large parts of the Canadian public are choosing to look away.

Behind the Scenes at the UN:               What You Make Possible

As Christmas approaches, I’ve been reflecting on the countless small moments that happen quietly in the margins of our work at the United Nations — the hallway conversations, the brief exchanges after an event, the unexpected tap on the shoulder from someone who wants to talk once the microphones are off.


More times than I can count over the past decade, a delegate, mission staffer, or NGO representative has pulled me, or one of my colleagues, aside to say, “Thank you for being here. Thank you for being that pro-life voice.” They often speak softly, sometimes cautiously, but always with sincerity. This past year was no different.


Those moments stay with me. They remind me that our presence at the UN matters.

They also come to mind as I reflect on why Campaign Life Coalition exists. Last week, our President Jeff Gunnarson launched our Christmas Campaign to get us “back in the black” before year’s end. Today, I want to show you why your support is essential for keeping a strong Canadian pro-life witness on the world stage.


At the UN, our presence matters not only because of the unapologetic pro-life statements we deliver or the events we host on issues many would prefer to avoid, but because there are policymakers inside those halls who feel pressured into silence by powerful abortion advocates and their global funding networks. When they see a Canadian pro-life organization like ours standing confidently for life, it gives them hope, too.

This year, because of supporters like you, that witness was stronger than ever.

At the UN’s annual “women’s rights” conference, we hosted a one-of-a-kind event exposing the dangerous spread of “bubble zones” suppressing pro-life speech in Canada and the UK. For many attending, it was the first time anyone had laid out these violations of free expression so plainly.


On the UN’s 80th anniversary, while bureaucrats praised themselves, their agendas, and their institutions, we organized a side event inside UN headquarters that brought the conversation back to the inherent value of every human life. Former ambassadors and legal experts sounded the alarm about the UN’s moral drift. Several attendees told us it was the most honest discussion they had heard in years.


And our young CLC delegates proved yet again why our presence matters. They engaged panellists, asked hard questions, and offered a confident, hopeful pro-life witness in rooms where they were often the only dissenting voices. Over the years, the young adults we send to these UN events have earned an impressive reputation. They show up prepared, articulate, and full of conviction. Our allies often tell me how valuable their presence is.


Their courage is contagious, and it gives me tremendous hope for the future.


Our wonderful team of CLC staff and youth volunteers brought pro-life vigour and advocacy to the annual UN Commission on the Status of Women in March 2026.

We brought that courage back to Canada, hosting a panel discussion with two former ambassadors on abortion funding and Canada’s role in exporting ideological colonialism. These conversations ensure our international work strengthens our efforts at home.


For years, CLC has stood almost alone in exposing the billions of Canadian tax dollars funnelled into abortion programs overseas through the Feminist International Assistance Policy. We’ve documented the pressure this creates on developing nations, raised these concerns in Ottawa and at the UN, and refused to let these facts be buried.

And then… something unexpected happened.


Just weeks ago, the federal budget quietly signalled upcoming cuts to foreign aid spending, directly affecting the global abortion industry. The reaction was immediate: pro-abortion groups erupted in outrage. For us, it was a powerful confirmation that persistent advocacy works, even when the opposition is well-funded and deeply entrenched.


All of this, every event, every meeting, every courageous witness, is possible only because supporters like you believe in the importance of a clear, principled, unapologetic pro-life voice on the world stage.

As I’ve said before, what happens internationally always ripples back into our own backyards. The stronger we hold the line abroad, the more effectively we can push back at home.

Americans will finally learn the truth about how, in 2016, intelligence was politicized and weaponized by the most powerful people in the Obama Administration to lay the groundwork for what was essentially a years-long coup against the President @realDonaldTrump, subverting the will of the American people and undermining our democratic republic. Here’s how:


Obama & Co. Must Be Prosecuted for Russia Hoax

 

In 2019, I argued that the Kremlin favoured Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump in the 2016 election, a contrarian viewpoint at the time.

 

I asserted that Putin saw her as a predictable and pliable figure whose tenure as Secretary of State had already benefited Russian interests. The narrative of Trump-Russia collusion, relentlessly pushed by the Obama administration, was a fabrication designed to undermine a duly elected president. Now, in 2025, declassified documents released by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard confirm this. These revelations expose Barack Obama’s direct intervention to override the intelligence community’s assessments, manufacturing a false narrative of Russian interference to delegitimize Trump’s victory. This was not just politicization of intelligence—it was a calculated betrayal of American democracy.

 

Gabbard’s documents, released on July 17, 2025, reveal that the intelligence community concluded before the 2016 election that Russia was “probably not trying … to influence the election by using cyber means.” A December 7, 2016, memo prepared for then-DNI James Clapper stated unequivocally that “foreign adversaries did not use cyberattacks on election infrastructure to alter the US Presidential election outcome.” Yet, on December 9, Obama convened a National Security Council meeting with Clapper, CIA Director John Brennan, FBI Director James Comey (in photo with Obama), and others, ordering a new assessment.


This directive, as Gabbard’s report shows, leaned on unreliable sources like the Steele dossier—funded by the Clinton campaign—to produce the January 6, 2017, Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA), which falsely claimed Vladimir Putin orchestrated an effort to elect Trump.


This was a deliberate distortion. As I noted in 2019, Russia had every reason to prefer Clinton. Her predictability was a known quantity: the Uranium One deal, which funnelled American uranium assets to Russian interests, and the Clinton Foundation’s receipt of hundreds of thousands of dollars from Kremlin-linked donors confirmed her as a malleable figure.

 

 Trump, with his unpredictable personality and commitment to military strength, posed a far greater challenge to Putin’s ambitions. Russia’s economy, fragile and commodity-dependent, could ill afford an arms race with a Trump-led America that spends freely on defense. Clinton’s weaker foreign policy, exemplified by Obama’s tepid response to the Crimea annexation, promised Putin a freer hand in destabilizing former Soviet states like Ukraine, Estonia, or Lithuania.

 

The liberal media’s response to Gabbard’s disclosures has been a masterclass in hypocrisy and bias, exposing their role as cheerleaders for the Russia hoax. Outlets like CNN, MSNBC, and The New York Times have downplayed or outright ignored the declassified documents, framing them as a politically motivated stunt by Gabbard, a former Democrat now vilified for her independence.

 

A July 18, 2025, CNN segment dismissed the report as “unsubstantiated” and “divisive,” while a Times op-ed labelled it “a distraction from real Russian threats.” These outlets, which spent years amplifying the baseless Trump-Russia collusion narrative, now refuse to engage with over 100 pages of evidence—emails, memos, and briefings—that expose Obama’s manipulation of intelligence. This selective outrage is staggering. The same media that breathlessly reported every unverified claim in the Steele dossier now demands “context” and “corroboration” when faced with damning primary documents.















For years, liberal journalists lionized figures like Brennan and Comey, casting them as defenders of democracy against a supposedly traitorous Trump. Yet when Gabbard’s report names them as central to a “treasonous conspiracy,” these outlets pivot to deflection, accusing her of undermining national security. MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, who once devoted entire segments to Trump’s alleged Kremlin ties, now calls the disclosures “a partisan hit job,” ignoring the whistleblower testimony that shocked even ODNI insiders about the dossier’s influence.

 

This double standard—embracing unverified gossip when it suits their narrative but dismissing hard evidence when it doesn’t—reveals a media more interested in protecting Democratic allies than pursuing truth. Their silence on Obama’s overreach betrays the same bias that fueled their McCarthyite smear of Trump, proving they’re less journalists than propagandists for a discredited cause.

 

In 2019, I noted that Putin’s goal was not to elect Trump but to sow discord, believing—like most—that Clinton would win. When Trump shocked the world, Russia’s agitprop pivoted to fuel anti-Trump protests, amplified by American media. Gabbard’s documents confirm this, showing that the intelligence community’s pre-election assessments aligned with this reality but were overridden by Obama’s directive. The Steele dossier, known to be unreliable even by its proponents, was a linchpin in this scheme. A whistleblower cited in Gabbard’s report expressed shock that such a “sloppily compiled piece of opposition research” influenced the 2017 ICA, underscoring the manipulation at play.

 

Democrats dismiss Gabbard’s findings as partisan, with Senator Mark Warner claiming his 2020 Senate report found no evidence of Obama’s interference. But that report focused on Russian actions, not Obama’s conduct—a convenient dodge. Representative Jim Himes calls the accusations “baseless,” yet over 100 pages of declassified emails, memos, and briefings tell a different story. They reveal a deliberate shift from pre-election assessments downplaying Russian intent to a post-election narrative exaggerating it, all under Obama’s orders. This was, as Gabbard’s report labels it, a “treasonous conspiracy” to subvert the electorate’s will.

 

The consequences were profound: the Mueller investigation, two impeachments, and heightened U.S.-Russia tensions—all rooted in a lie. The collusion narrative was a McCarthyite smear, and Gabbard’s documents prove it. Obama’s team, led by figures like Brennan, who later claimed Trump was “wholly in the pocket of Putin,” weaponized intelligence to paint him as a traitor. This was not about national security; it was about power.



Gabbard’s courage in exposing this demands action. Her referral of Clapper, Brennan, Comey, and others to the Justice Department for criminal investigation is a start, but accountability must follow. The Russia hoax divided our nation, weakened our presidency, and played into Putin’s hands by sowing chaos.

Schumer Shutdown:

Halts TRICARE Medical Payments for Military, Families

— Jeopardizes Care

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — As the Schumer shutdown moves through its second week, health care providers are not being compensated for services provided to military service members and their families. Some doctors and health care providers in San Antonio who rely on TRICARE to pay for services provided to military members and dependents say they are now starting to feel the pinch.


The Democrats’ stated priority of extending federal subsidies related to Obamacare coverage may now be endangering the health care services for United States military service members, retirees, and their dependents. Although the financial hardships facing medical providers who rely on TRICARE are of nationwide concern, the issue is perhaps more visible in San Antonio, often referred to as “Military City USA” due to the number of Department of War installations located within the city.


San Antonio is home to Joint Base San Antonio, the U.S. military’s largest joint base operation that includes Lackland Air Force Base, Randolph Air Force Base, Fort Sam Houston, and Camp Bullis. Soldiers and Airmen assigned to the bases and their families rely on TRICARE to reimburse civilian health care providers who are now feeling the financial impact of the shutdown. Military retirees also rely on TRICARE insurance for healthcare needs.


In a recent San Antonio News4SA report, one health care provider servicing families with children with developmental disorders was already struggling to stay open. Dr. Britt Sims, Executive Director of Integrated Behaviour Solutions, told News4SA, “We can last a couple of weeks on what I have personally, but now, I’m done. I’m spent. If by some miracle, something happens, then I don’t know. We’ll keep fighting somehow.”


Another healthcare provider serving retirees, soldiers, and their families is under the same pressure as the shutdown continues. Dr. Gia Koehne, who owns a small practice called the Blossom Center for Children in San Antonio, told News4SA, “Because of all of this, everything is completely stalled and halted.”


“We have a lot of families that need services, and we just don’t have the capacity to be able to do that, because we’re not getting paid,” Koehne explained. Blossom Center for Children provides services for children with autism.


TRICARE, the government-sponsored health insurance program for active, reserve, and retired military members and their families, warned of the payment delays related to the government shutdown in a statement released on October 1. The message released by TRICARE read:


During the current lapse in government appropriations, you may continue to get care or attend currently scheduled appointments with your civilian providers. Your usual out-of-pocket costs will apply.


You may also continue to fill prescriptions at military pharmacies, retail network pharmacies, and home delivery.


However, TRICARE may not be able to process or pay medical claims received on or after October 1, 2025, until funding is restored. The Defense Health Agency is also working with our TRICARE contractors to communicate with healthcare providers on potential delays in payment.


We understand this may cause concern and inconvenience, and we sincerely regret the disruption. We remain committed to resuming full operation as quickly as possible once appropriations are enacted.

Most people think colour revolutions happen somewhere else, Kiev, Tbilisi, Cairo. Not here. But Flynn wasn’t speaking in hypotheticals. He was describing tactics he’s seeing play out right now, in real time, inside America.


What Exactly Is a Colour Revolution, Anyway?

If you’re like most folks, the term sounds vaguely academic, something you skimmed in a political-science textbook once and immediately forgot. Let me break it down the way it was explained to me years ago by someone who actually ran these operations overseas.


A colour revolution (sometimes called a “soft coup”) is a carefully orchestrated campaign to overthrow a government without most people realizing a coup is even happening. It almost never starts with tanks in the streets. It starts with narratives.


The playbook is always the same:

  • Relentless media bombardment declaring the target leader “illegitimate.”

  • Street protests that appear spontaneous but are professionally organized

  • NGOs flooded with cash to train activists and pay for logistics

  • Judicial harassment (lawfare) to tie up the target in court

  • Leaks, scandals, and manufactured crises on a rolling schedule

  • Pressure on the military and security services to “refuse illegal orders.”

  • Elite defections at the decisive moment

When you lay it out like that, it doesn’t feel foreign at all, does it?


The “Seditious Six” Video That Crossed the Line

The moment that apparently pushed Flynn past the tipping point was a video released just after Thanksgiving. Six retired senior military officers, three- and four-star generals and admirals, sat in front of American flags and delivered what sounded like a scripted public-service announcement.


Their message? Members of the armed forces should be prepared to refuse orders from the incoming commander-in-chief if those orders seem “illegal or immoral.”

They never defined what those orders might be.

“This is textbook sedition under 18 U.S.C. § 2387,” Flynn said. “You don’t get to pre-declare mutiny and call it patriotism.”


Think about that for a second. Six of the most senior retired officers in the country just told active-duty troops to consider disobeying the next president. In any other context, that would be front-page news for weeks. Instead, it barely caused a ripple in legacy media.


A Decade of Unrestricted Warfare Against One Man

Flynn didn’t pull the colour-revolution label out of thin air. He walked through a timeline that, honestly, reads like a thriller novel if it weren’t so terrifying because it’s real.

2016: Russia-collusion hoax cooked up within weeks of the election.2017-2019: Special counsel, endless leaks, dawn raids on associates.2020: Summer of riots timed perfectly with the election year.2021-2024: Two impeachments, multiple criminal indictments, civil suits, gag orders.2025: Before Trump even takes the oath, we’re already seeing coordinated messages about military refusal.


That’s not normal politics. That’s unrestricted warfare, a term the Chinese military uses for operations that combine law, media, finance, and psychology to destroy an enemy without firing a shot.

And the American left has been running this playbook domestically for almost ten years straight.


Follow the Money: The NGO Industrial Complex

One of the biggest revelations in recent years, and it’s still not discussed nearly enough, is how much of this is bankrolled by a handful of billionaire foundations and “non-governmental” organizations that operate with zero transparency.


Investigators have mapped out entire networks:

  • Hundreds of millions flowing from a few mega-donors into “democracy promotion” groups

  • Those groups then fund the protest organizers, the legal teams, the media trainers

  • Many of the same NGOs that ran colour revolutions overseas suddenly pivoted to domestic work after 2016

  • Some even kept the same staff and the same training manuals

When people say “follow the money,” this is what they mean. It’s not a conspiracy theory when the tax filings and grant databases are public.


Why a National Address Matters More Than You Think

Flynn’s core demand is simple: President-elect Trump needs to go on national television, prime time, no teleprompter if he wants, and lay it all out for the American people.


Not a tweet. Not a rally speech. A calm, deliberate address that does three things:

1.    Names the operation for what it is: a colour revolution

2.    Explains the tactics so average citizens can spot them

3.    Outlines immediate countermeasures (de-funding radical NGOs, protecting the military chain of command, etc.)


Why is this so urgent? Because colour revolutions only work in the dark. Once the playbook is exposed to sunlight, the spell breaks. The moment the public understands they’re watching a scripted production, the actors lose their power.

I’ve watched this happen overseas. The second the people realize the “spontaneous” protests are paid for and choreographed, turnout collapses overnight.


The Military Angle Nobody Wants to Talk About

Here’s the part that keeps me up at night.

In every successful colour revolution, there’s a moment when key elites defect. Usually, it’s senior officers who announce they “can no longer follow illegal orders.” That announcement is the green light for chaos.


We just watched six retired officers try to lay the groundwork for exactly that scenario.

If even a small percentage of active-duty flag officers start echoing that language in the coming weeks, the risk level goes exponential.


Flynn’s point: the only way to inoculate the military is for the incoming commander-in-chief to speak directly to the troops, remind them of their oath to the Constitution, and make crystal clear that the chain of command will be respected.


What Happens If They Succeed?

Let’s not sugar-coat it.

If this operation works, Trump is removed from the board one way or another long before any policy gets implemented. The America First movement gets branded as domestic terrorism. Borders stay open. Censorship regimes harden. And the people who voted for change wake up in a country that feels like it changed owners overnight.

That’s not hyperbole. That’s the endgame of every colour revolution: replacement of one power structure with another, usually far less accountable to voters.


The Clock Is Ticking

We’re now seven weeks from Inauguration Day.

The pressure campaigns are only going to intensify: more leaks, more “bombshell” stories, more street theatre, more calls for military “conscience.”

General Flynn’s warning isn’t politically convenient. It’s uncomfortable. It forces everyone to pick a side.


But uncomfortable doesn’t mean wrong.

In my view, the next move belongs to Trump. A single address could defuse the entire operation. Silence, on the other hand, will be interpreted as weakness, and the plotters will take that as their cue to escalate.

We’ve seen this movie before. We know how it ends when the target refuses to name the threat.

The question is whether we’re willing to watch the sequel play out on American soil.

One way or another, the next few weeks will decide a lot more than cabinet picks.

During the last week of November, independent journalist and filmmaker Ami Horowitz journeyed through the cold, snowy streets of the Cedar-Riverside neighbourhood of Minneapolis, where he interviewed a number of Somali residents about which system of law they preferred, Sharia or American? The answers he received were terrifying, as most chose Sharia.


Horowitz kicked off his man-on-the-street style interview by asking a young, black Somali man in sunglasses, “Do you feel more comfortable living under American law? Or do you feel more comfortable living under Sharia law?” The young man, all smiles, wasted no time in giving his answer. “Sharia law.”


Another young man, Horowitz, posed the question to responded in a similar fashion, saying, “I’m a Muslim, I prefer Sharia law.” Another answered in the affirmative, saying, “Sharia law, yes.” A third younger man, sporting a flat bill ball cap and looking very American, replied, “Of course. Yeah. Of course, yeah.”


Horowitz asked the young man a follow-up question about whether his friends feel the same way. “Yeah, of course. If you’re a Muslim, yeah.” In a later part of the interview, the brave journalist had a conversation with a Somali woman, decked out in a pink, floral headwrap. Horowitz asked the woman how young a girl was allowed to be if she were to marry her son. The answer is more than a little disturbing. She answered, “15.”


He then asked her, “Is it right to kill someone who insults Mohammad?” The woman said it was perfectly fine to take someone’s life if they had criticized the founder of their religion. “Yeah, because she has the religion, I understand, but she shouldn’t pick on the prophet.”


“So you understand why someone would want to attack her [the individual criticizing Mohammad]?” Horowitz followed up. “Yeah.” The video clip then returns to the young man in the ball cap. Horowitz asks him if he would rather live here in the United States or in a Muslim country. “I’d rather live in a Muslim country with my people.”


Cutting back to the woman Horowitz spoke to earlier, he asks her the same question. You can probably already guess the response. “For me, I think it’s Somalia.” Which begs the question, if they would rather live in Somalia, why are they here? Returning to the young man in sunglasses, he answers, “I’d rather live in Somalia.”

Police Investigate Deaths of Filmmaker Rob Reiner and Wife as Apparent Homicide:

 

Actor-director and political activist Rob Reiner and his wife were found dead in their Los Angeles home on Sunday, and police detectives are investigating the circumstances as an apparent homicide, city officials said.


While police declined to publicly identify the two people found deceased, Mayor Karen Bass and California Gov. Gavin Newsom each released statements confirming that Reiner, 78, and his wife, Michele, 68, had died.


"This is a devastating loss for our city and our country. Rob Reiner's contributions reverberate throughout American culture and society, and he has improved countless lives through his creative work and advocacy fighting for social and economic justice," the mayor wrote.


Los Angeles Police Department Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton on Sunday evening told reporters that LAPD patrol officers called to the home late Sunday afternoon discovered two bodies inside the residence.


Detectives of the LAPD's robbery-homicide unit were waiting for a search warrant before entering the home to conduct a thorough search and investigation of the premises, Hamilton said.


The LAPD issued a statement on social media earlier in the evening calling the case an investigation of an "apparent homicide," although Hamilton said police had not identified a suspect as of Sunday night.


A cause of death will be made public by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office, Hamilton said.


As an actor, Reiner was best remembered for his role on the TV comedy "All in the Family" as Mike "Meathead" Stivic, the son-in-law and liberal foil of the lead character, working-class bigot Archie Bunker, played by Carroll O'Connor.


Reiner went on to have a prolific Hollywood career as a director, helming popular movies such as "The Princess Bride," "This is Spinal Tap," "When Harry Met Sally...," "Stand by Me," "A Few Good Men," "Misery" and "The American President."


A sequel to the mockumentary "This is Spinal Tap" was released this year.

His wife, Michele, was at one time a photographer who captured the image of Donald Trump that appears on the cover of his book "Trump: The Art of the Deal."

Rob Reiner, a native of New York City and son of the late comedy writer and actor Carl Reiner, also was well known for his political activism.


In the 2004 presidential election, he backed Democrat candidate John Kerry and featured in advertisements taking aim at incumbent President George W. Bush. Reiner also supported Democratic presidential hopefuls Al Gore and Hillary Clinton.


Reiner was first married to Penny Marshall, who played Laverne in "Laverne & Shirley" and was also a producer and director. He later married actor Michele Singer, with whom he had three children.

Did the president drop an f-bomb? Yes, and Democrats are doing it too

Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who started in politics as a young legislative aide and is now the senior Democrat in Florida’s congressional delegation, has for years calibrated her statements, carefully choosing her words to communicate exactly the message she intends.

Recently, speaking at the Broward Democratic Party’s annual fundraising dinner, she used blunt, shocking language to convey the threat she said was emanating from President Donald Trump’s policies.


“F—,” she said. More than once.

Wasserman Schulz declared that Democrats would “fight to our last breath, and we’ll go to the f—ing mat.”

There has been a clear coarsening of political language: Words that once were widely seen as off-limits, other than behind closed doors or in small groups, are now more common — an extra tool to convey anger and frustration.


At another point in the Broward fundraising dinner, Wasserman Schultz decried what she said Trump and Republicans are doing. She asked the audience of 300, “Are we going to let them do that, Broward County?”

“No,” people in the audience responded.

To which the congresswoman replied with an emphatic “f— no!”


“This has been building up in me for a long time. So, forgive me,” she added.

Wasserman Schultz later explained the word wasn’t in her prepared remarks, but said the gravity of the threat the nation is facing in 2025 warranted an expression that once would have been stunning in a public setting.


Trump

There’s no more prominent public user of the f-word and others once widely seen as off-limits than the president.

Most recently, on June 24, he was expressing his displeasure with Iran and Israel. “We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the f— they’re doing. Do you understand that?”

His use of the word concerning Iran and Israel — speaking on the lawn of the White House — attracted massive attention, but he’s no stranger to the public use of four-letter words.

“More than any other president, Trump has been known to use coarse language in speeches and other public appearances. But even for him, this on-camera utterance of the f-word was new. American presidents have typically refrained from using it publicly, even when angry or frustrated,” NPR reported.

Just before last year’s election, the New York Times reported that a computer search found he had used curses at least 140 times in public last year, not counting words such as “damn” and “hell” that are much tamer to many people.

A review of Trump’s speech at the 2024 Conservative Political Action Conference found he used epithets 44 times, the Times reported.


Perhaps the most famous previous use of the f-word came from Joe Biden, then the vice president, who told President Barack Obama that his 2010 signing of the Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare, into law was “a big f—ing deal.”


One big difference: Biden whispered it to Obama and meant it to be private, but it was picked up on an open mic. Critics at the time suggested it was an example of Biden’s tendency toward gaffes; years later, some supporters were more positive about what they called the BFD moment.


Democrats join

After 10 years of Trump dominating and altering the nation’s political discourse, Democrats’ language is now changing.


“In some ways, the Democrats have been slower, particularly in the Trump era, to adopt the attention-gaining messaging that Donald Trump has really leaned into,” said Joshua Scacco, an associate professor of communication at the University of South Florida. “It does seem like the Trump era is catching up to Democrats in terms of how they’re responding, in terms of how they’re adapting their own messaging.”


Scacco, who specializes in political communication and media content, is also the founder and director of the university’s Center for Sustainable Democracy.

At a Florida Democratic Party dinner gala, which fell between Wasserman Schultz’s and Trump’s use of the f-word, U.S. Rep. Jared Moskowitz was delivering remarks to an audience of 800.


The Broward-Palm Beach County congressman described what would happen when lawmakers returned to Washington to take up the measure the Republican majority passed on July 3, the legislation named “Big Beautiful Bill” at Trump’s behest.


“They’re going to try to pass the big beautiful bull of a bill,” Moskowitz said.

Wasserman Schultz has regularly used the term “DOGEbags” to describe the people dispatched under the Trump presidency to fan out through federal agencies as part of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency effort formerly led by a billionaire

On Monday, Kristi Noem, secretary of the Department of Homeland Security and former Republican governor of South Dakota, said she was looking forward to a visit with Trump the next day to the detention center for illegal immigrants pending deportation that Florida has established in the Everglades.


In an official statement attributed to Noem and distributed by the agency, she said the detention center would allow the government to lock up “some of the worst scumbags” in the country.


Divergent reactions

The responses to the use of one of the terms that still can’t be printed or aired in most mainstream news outlets often depend on the affiliation of the person who uttered the word.


After Trump used the word, his firmness and resolve were heralded by a host on Fox, the favoured cable news outlet for Republicans. A “very frustrated” president used “salty language,” she said.


Minutes later, the same Fox host professed outrage at a Democrat’s use of the term. She said she was “repulsed” by the user’s “foul mouth.”


The contradictory reactions were so extreme that they prompted mockery online and a video of excerpts calling out Fox from a host at competitor CNN.

On Wednesday, as the U.S. House of Representatives debated the big bill to cut taxes, cut social program spending, provide more money for immigration enforcement and the military, and increase the federal debt, Democrats professed outrage.

U.S. Rep. Josh Riley, D-N.Y., ran through a litany of objections before delivering his summary.


“Don’t tell me you give a s— about the middle class when all you’re doing is s—ting on the middle class,” he said on the floor of the U.S. House.

That produced a tut-tut from U.S. Rep. Steve Womack, R-Ark., who was presiding over the House at the time. “Avoid vulgar speech. We do have families present. U.S. Rep. Virginia Fox, R-N.C., chair of the House Rules Committee, echoed the reminder about “the language we should be using in this chamber.”


The admonishment prompted what was, in effect, a verbal eye roll from U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern of Massachusetts, top Democrat on the Rules Committee. “I hope that when the president comes here next, you’ll admonish him for the language he uses.”
