There have been two full years of school closures—of dubious necessity—and now that the COVID regime has finally been lifted, just as children are getting settled back into regular class time, what happens?
Why, there is a strike of course. The great CUPE union has called a strike for school workers, originally demanding a mere 11 percent per year for the next four years. Premier Doug Ford, mindful of parents who have been tormented and exasperated by Zoom learning (and their children denied all normal childhood social interaction), threatens to use the “notwithstanding clause” of the revered Charter of Rights and Freedoms in order to slap the strike down as soon as it takes its first irritating breath.
He can read the Ontario room, that is unquestionable. Two years off on salary for teachers, while small businesses went bankrupt, Costco and the big boys made out like bandits, and restaurants in particular went down like dominoes, but as soon as what we used to call normal conditions return, the union (as of Nov. 4) calls a strike.
Shouts of horror from Ottawa, the prime minister, the Liberal front bench, and a particular intervention from Seamus O’Regan, the Plato of cabinet, that “using the notwithstanding clause to suspend workers’ rights is an affront to democracy.”
It’s gutting the charter, they all cry. It hits the basic right to “collective bargaining”—a right, as the most keen Howard Anglin perceptively argued in a commentary for The Hub, was manufactured in the courts and is not in the charter.
How the Liberals manage to stay conscious when executing so hypocritical a position is a question for the medical authorities. The Liberals put on the COVID regime. They waltzed over, through, around, and under the charter; I think I wrote previously they drove an 18-wheeler with no brakes through civil liberties. And that was just their warmup.
You do not have to be a great supporter of the Liberals to admire their gall, their sheer “face,” to use a Newfoundland term. This, recall, is also a minority administration that has worked a deal with the NDP’s super-compliant Jagmeet Singh to act as a majority government. Trudeau was warned by top Intelligence that China was Funding 2019 Election Candidates: Report-
While the names of the 2019 candidates were not identified, the alleged interference reportedly included members of both the Liberal and Conservative parties.
OTTAWA (LifeSiteNews) — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who once said he admired China’s “basic dictatorship,” was reportedly warned by top intelligence that agents of the Chinese Communist regime had been allegedly funding candidates in the 2019 federal election.
According to a Global News report, sources said the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) identified at least 11 candidates in the 2019 federal election who were thought to be under the direct funding and influence of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
The sources also told the outlet that Trudeau and some of his ministers had been given information in January of this year regarding this alleged covert funding, adding that Beijing’s efforts were done with the specific intention of subverting Canada’s democratic process.
Global News noted that information from CSIS showed how payments were made through middlemen to candidates with close ties to the CCP. The infiltration also reportedly went as far as the CCP having agents working in the offices of MPs, which was done to try and influence policy direction.
While the names of the 2019 candidates were not identified, the alleged interference reportedly included members of both the Liberal and Conservative parties.
Some sources told Global News that payments were transferred through an Ontario MPP and a federal candidate staffer, while other sources reportedly noted a $250,000 payment that was made “by a CCP proxy group acting as an intermediary.”
LifeSiteNews reported in August that a former CSIS spy, Michel Juneau-Katsuya, revealed there are many Canadian politicians “at all levels” of government who are known to be in the pocketbooks of some foreign governments.
Juneau-Katsuya said payouts to politicians are “still happening,” and that “Foreign agents try to recruit elected officials.”
“It’s fairly easy because elected officials don’t necessarily listen to security guidelines to protect themselves,” he noted.
In July of this year LifeSiteNews also reported that an analysis conducted by a federal research unit showed that the CCP may have tried to influence the outcome of the Canadian 2021 federal election as well, through the spread of disinformation about the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC).
