Thanks to the Iron Dome, many rockets are intercepted in the sky before reaching populated areas. However, these missiles are extremely large, and even when intercepted, the falling debris can still cause serious damage and injury.

 

Across Israel, public bomb shelters and reinforced safe rooms in homes and apartment buildings have helped save countless lives.

 

However, even with these protections, 15 people have tragically lost their lives and many others have been injured. Some injuries have occurred simply from people rushing to shelters when sirens sound.

Online Pics of Blood Pressure Testing Misleading

Folks figuring out how to take their blood pressure at home might be tempted to use online stock photos to see how it’s done — but they really shouldn’t, a new study warns.

Only about 1 in 7 stock photos found online correctly depict the right way to measure blood pressure, researchers reported in the journal Hypertension.

 

“We expected that about 50% of images would be accurate. However, our findings were worse than expected,” said lead researcher Alta Schutte, a professor of cardiovascular medicine at the University of New South Wales Sydney in Australia.

 

“Because people tend to remember images better than words — a phenomenon known as the picture-superiority effect — inaccurate visuals could have serious public health consequences,” she added in a news release.

Home blood pressure readings have become increasingly important, with clinical guidelines now recommending that people regularly self-monitor their pressure and report the data to their doctor, researchers said in background notes.

 

But fewer than 1 in every 5 home blood pressure device owners report that someone has shown them how to properly take their own readings, researchers said. Many likely turn to the internet for guidance.

 

For the new study, researchers analyzed more than 1,100 images found on 11 major online stock photo sites using the term “blood pressure check.”

Only 14% of those images depicted people properly checking their blood pressure in the correct posture and with the right device, researchers found.

 

Things the pictures get wrong, based on clinical guidelines, include:

  • ·       Not sitting upright with the back supported in a chair (73%).

  • ·       Not resting the whole forearm on a flat surface or table (55%).

  • ·       Using a manual self-pumping device rather than an electronic upper-arm device (52%).

  • ·       Dangling feet rather than placing them flat on the floor (36%).

  • ·       Not putting the mid-arm on the same level as the heart (19%).

  • ·       Talking with someone else while taking the reading (18%).

  • ·       Sitting with legs crossed (13%).

  • ·       Placing the blood pressure cuff over clothing, rather than on the bare arm (12%).

  • ·       Standing or lying down rather than sitting during the reading (5%).

 

“More people are checking their blood pressure at home,” Schutte said. “But because of the inaccurate depictions online – even on reputable websites – it is very likely that people who look for information on the internet about blood pressure will see these images and may use the incorrect technique at home.”

And that’s a problem, she cautioned.

 

“If this happens, people will get blood pressure readings that are either too high or too low, which can lead to wrong conclusions about their blood pressure and possibly too much or too little treatment when these blood pressure measures are shared with their health care team,” Schutte explained.

 

Interestingly, while photos of people taking their own blood pressure at home were most often incorrect, they tended to be better than photos showing blood pressure taken in a doctor’s office, researchers found.

 

About 25% of images showing self-measurement of blood pressure were accurate, compared to 8% of images depicting a health professional taking a patient’s blood pressure, results show.

Even major health organizations and universities have been using inaccurate images, Schutte noted.

 

“We urge these organizations, media outlets, stock photo creators, web developers, medical journalists and researchers to take a closer look at their online images,” Schutte said. “They should check that all images show how to measure blood pressure accurately and represent the proper techniques to reduce the likelihood of incorrect blood pressure readings at home and in clinical settings.”

 

Shutte said this is the first comprehensive evaluation of the accuracy of images being provided to the public about taking your own blood pressure.

Dr. Daniel Jones is chair of the American Heart Association’s high blood pressure guideline writing committee.

 

He said the new study highlights the importance of using accurate images to demonstrate the proper technique for measuring blood pressure.

“Home blood pressure monitoring is recommended for patients to help confirm an office diagnosis of high blood pressure and to monitor, track progress and tailor care as part of an integrated care plan,” he said in a news release.

“Every Senate Democrat except you signed a letter today… asking for an investigation into that strike on a girls’ school in Iran,” she said. “Why did you not sign that letter, senator?”


Fetterman responded that he agreed the strike was a tragedy and supported accountability — but rejected broader Democratic criticism of the war.

“Well, because we all agree that it is a tragedy having that school hit, absolutely,” Fetterman said. “And we all agreed now for an investigation. What I don’t agree with the rest of my colleagues… is that it’s a war of choice or it’s dumb… I think it’s a good thing and I support that.”


He emphasized that the Pentagon had already acknowledged likely responsibility and said an apology would be appropriate if the findings are confirmed.

But Fetterman pivoted to what he described as disproportionate media outrage over the school strike compared to coverage of Iranian actions.


“And I would remind everybody listening right now, the United States never, ever targets civilians,” he said. “Iran does… and they massacred 35,000 of them just a couple of weeks ago.”

As Collins attempted to interject, Fetterman continued forcefully.

“The left media is much more angry… about this hospital. And it is a tragedy. But they didn’t seem to be as concerned about the Iranians massacring tens of thousands of their young people just a couple of weeks ago.”

Collins pushed back, noting that CNN had extensively covered protests and internal unrest in Iran.


“Well, I don’t watch, so I don’t know,” Fetterman replied, adding that he was referring more broadly to what he sees as a pattern in “other left media,” including outlets like The New York Times, which he accused of portraying the war effort as a disaster.

Collins then sought to clarify his position: “You do believe if the United States was responsible, that the Pentagon should acknowledge that they accidentally hit a girls’ school?”


“Yeah, I’ve said that,” Fetterman answered. “It seems that they’ve already acknowledged all those things. I think largely that letter was rendered moot at this point after what’s already come out.”

As Collins attempted to wrap the segment, thanking him for his time, Fetterman objected.

“Oh, now, you don’t have to cut me off here,” he said with a chuckle, prompting Collins to respond, “Go ahead, Senator, we’re not cutting you off.”


Fetterman clarified that he was not arguing against coverage of the strike itself.

“It is appropriate to cover it. You know, it’s a tragedy. Absolutely,” he said. “If you’re implying that I don’t think it’s wrong to cover it, that’s just not true.”

The exchange highlighted Fetterman’s increasingly independent posture within the Democratic caucus, particularly on foreign policy. While most Democratic senators have framed the Iran campaign as reckless or destabilizing, Fetterman has openly supported the military operation and rejected characterizations that it is out of control.

New Mexico authorities on Monday started searching the notorious New Mexico ranch where late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein is accused of running a sick “baby-making” operation — and where a staffer once claimed strangled girls are buried.

The New Mexico Department of Justice announced that it started searching Epstein’s former Zorro Ranch on Monday morning at the direction of Attorney General Raúl Torrez, alongside local and state police.

Torrez reopened an investigation into the ranch last month, where the convicted sex offender once entertained guests, 30 miles south of Santa Fe. An original case opened to investigate the secretive outpost was closed in 2019 at the request of federal prosecutors in New York.

State prosecutors have since argued that “revelations outlined in the previously sealed FBI files warrant further examination.”

Most disturbingly, a document in the Epstein files shows that a staffer once reported that “somewhere in the hills outside the Zorro, two foreign girls were buried on orders of Jeffrey and Madam G.”

House Republicans unveil Election Reform Bill dubbed Make Elections Great Again Act.

House Republicans unveiled a sweeping elections reform bill Thursday that would mandate long-sought requirements like presenting photo ID when voting and citizenship verification to register to vote. 


Dubbed the Make Elections Great Again Act, the bill is led by House Administration Committee Chair Bryan Steil (R-Wis.) and marks an evolution of election reform legislation that House Republicans have crafted in previous Congresses, such as the American Confidence in Elections Act.


“Americans should be confident their elections are being run with integrity – including commonsense voter ID requirements, clean voter rolls, and citizenship verification,” Steil said in a statement. “These reforms will improve voter confidence, bolster election integrity, and make it easy to vote, but hard to cheat.” 


In addition to requiring photo ID when casting a ballot and citizenship verification upon voter registration, the bill implements restrictions on how states administer and maintain their election systems — some of which became flashpoints in the 2020 election, fueling President Trump’s claims of election fraud.


The bill would require mail-in ballots to be received by the close of polls on election day to be counted, making an exception for members of military stations overseas. Several states currently allow mail-in ballots to be counted if received up to a certain point after Election Day as long as they are postmarked by Election Day — often leading to delays in determining election winners in states like California where the vast majority of ballots are cast by mail.


It would require states to use auditable paper ballots for a federal election. The vast majority of federal ballots are already cast on paper, with a 2024 Brennan Center for Justice analysis estimating that 98 percent of votes cast would be on paper ballots in that year’s presidential election.


It would also implement stronger routine voter list maintenance requirements and ban universal vote by mail systems by requiring voters to affirmatively request a ballot to vote by mail.


“Ballot harvesting,” the practice of collecting completed ballots and delivering them to polling centers, would also be prohibited for anyone who is not an immediate family member or caregiver of a voter. It would also prohibit a person from distributing or delivering more than four mail-in ballots at a time.


The bill would prohibit federal agencies from using taxpayer funds to promote voter registration, in reference to former President Biden’s 2021 executive order directing agencies to help the public register to vote, with Republicans deeming the practice “BidenBucks.”


The bill would also ban ranked choice voting in federal elections. The system, in which voters rank their top choices of candidates rather than voting for a single person, is used in some statewide elections in Maine and in Alaska and a smattering of local elections across the country.


Rep. Joe Morelle (D-N.Y.), ranking member on the House Administration Committee, slammed the legislation and promised to oppose it.“President Trump and House Republicans are terrified of the American people. They are desperate to rig the system so they can choose their voters. This bill is their latest attempt to block millions of Americans from exercising their right to vote. I will fight this bill at every turn,” Morelle said in a statement.

The unveiling of the bill comes a day after Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) told reporters that another GOP elections bill that would require proof of citizenship to register to vote, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, will come to the Senate floor “at some point.” The bill has previously passed the House, and Thune said lawmakers are working to add a requirement ensuring only residents can cast a ballot, not just register.

The Make Elections Great Again Act is endorsed by numerous conservative election reform activists.

“I’ve spent the last decade registering voters across the country and empowering Americans to vote. Without fair elections, we aren’t a free nation,” Scott Presler, founder of Early Vote Action, said in a statement. “Thank you to Chairman Steil for his leadership on comprehensive election reform. Let’s make elections great again!”

It also got stamps of approval from Jason Snead, director of Honest Elections Project Action; J. Christian Adams, president of the Public Interest Legal Foundation and commissioner on the United States Commission of Civil Rights; and Justin Riemer, president and CEO of Restoring Integrity and Trust in Elections.

WASHINGTON — Internal Supreme Court divisions over how the high court has frequently ruled in favor of the Trump administration in emergency situations spilled out into public Monday with liberal Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson and conservative Justice Brett Kavanaugh locking horns.

The court's conservative majoity has on a regular basis blocked lower court rulings that have stymied President Donald Trump's agenda, sparking criticism from within and outside the judiciary.

Jackson, often a vocal dissenter in those cases, forcefully aired her critique of the court's actions in a rare public appearance with Kavanaugh at an event for lawyers and judges held at the federal courthouse in Washington.

Bemoaning the recent increase in such emergency filings — requested to challenge lower court rulings — she suggested that the number of filings would drop if the court were stingier about granting them.

The procedure has become known as the “shadow docket” because the court rarely hears arguments and often issues terse decisions with little explanation. The Supreme Court decisions can allow policies to go into effect at early stages in legal challenges, long before lower courts have reached any definitive conclusions. The cases might then return to the Supreme Court later in the process, leading to final decisions on the merits.

In the last year, the court has, among other things, allowed Trump to fire thousands of federal workers, assert control over previously independent federal agencies and implement various aspects of his hard-line immigration policy. All those moves, done through the shadow docket, had been blocked by lower courts.

"I just feel like this uptick in the court's willingness to get involved ... is a real unfortunate problem," Jackson said. Among other things, it affects how lower court judges approach cases, as they already have a preliminary sense of how the Supreme Court might approach them on appeal, creating "a warped kind of proceeding," she added.

"It's not serving the court or this country well," Jackson said.

Kavanaugh, usually in the majority in shadow docket cases, defended the court — as he has done in the past — saying it has to act one way or another when the government or another litigant files an emergency application.

Kavanaugh noted that the increase in government applications is not unique to Trump, saying the court also granted similar requests made by the Biden administration, albeit at a lower rate.

Retired FBI agent warns a Kidnapper and likely Killer Walks Free as Nancy Guthrie search enters week six

Six weeks into the search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, a retired FBI special agent is raising a question the national media coverage has largely ignored: what does a kidnapper, and possible murderer, do next?

On Wednesday, March 11, Jennifer Coffindaffer, a retired FBI special agent, took to X with an observation she described as one that "no one seems to be talking about." The point she raised isn't about evidence analysis or surveillance footage. It's about public safety.

There is a kidnapper (at least 1) and a pFotential murderer (maybe more) on the streets. Who will be their next target?

Nancy Guthrie, an 84-year-old woman and mother of NBC News journalist and Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing from her home in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood of Tucson, Arizona, on February 1, 2026. Evidence recovered from her residence indicated that a crime had taken place inside the house, and investigators determined it was not believed that she left voluntarily.

Authorities believe she was kidnapped, and drops of her blood were found on the front porch. Authorities described Guthrie as a vulnerable adult due to her age, mobility limitations, and reliance on daily medication. An 84-year-old woman, taken in the middle of the night, from her own home.

A suspect in plain sight, and still free

On February 10, FBI Director Kash Patel released four black-and-white images on X showing a masked, armed intruder wearing gloves and a backpack outside Guthrie's home. Investigators reported that the intruder attempted to tamper with the video doorbell by trying to knock it off with light taps, and when unable to, subsequently covering the lens with foliage from a potted plant. Despite the attempt, data from the device was successfully recovered.

According to the New York Post, Investigators have released doorbell camera footage of the masked suspect and shared a physical description of the potential abductor. No suspects have been named. The investigation has now consumed 40 days. The suspect remains unidentified.

Officially, investigators have received 40,000 tips, rewards totaling $1.2 million have been offered, the family has made public appeals, and a labyrinth of leads, evidence, and information has been gathered and sifted through by police, the FBI, and the media. Yet the public remains in the dark about what happened to Nancy.

The question no one is asking

Coffindaffer isn't speculating recklessly. She's applying institutional knowledge to a public safety gap that the media, consumed by the search narrative, has set aside. While reporters track cadaver dogs and reward announcements, a violent actor remains free.

Yes, this seems to be very targeted abduction (like the Idaho murders), but you still have an individual(s) capable of extreme violence on the loose.

Targeted or not, capability doesn't expire. And Coffindaffer says the search focus has crowded out the second obligation law enforcement carries in a case like this.

Finding Nancy alive was objective 1. Objective 2 was getting an abductor (and likely murderer) off the streets. Will this person(s) strike again? This is a big issue.

She was careful to note she was "not trying to raise hysteria," but said that "protecting the community seems to be lost in the hubbub." That distinction matters. This is not alarmism. It's the kind of sober, operational thinking that gets lost when a case becomes a media event.

What Coffindaffer says it will take

Coffindaffer urged law enforcement to hold a press conference "to let the public know if there are any more details they can offer so the public can assist in terms of a vehicle, time parameters, or any other important days to be aware of."

The Trump administration, which claims Khalil is a Hamas supporter, is using a rarely deployed statute that allows for noncitizens to be deported if their beliefs can pose a threat to US foreign policy interests.

Khalil has still made disturbing comments about the Oct. 7, 2023, slaughter of Israelis by Hamas, calling it an unavoidable moment justified by the terror group’s “struggle.”
