CANADIAN:

Canada isn’t ready for its wildfires, but won’t admit it

Canada is burning, and our inaction is partly to blame.

When Canada’s smoke drifted south again, a handful of Michigan Republicans met it with a letter to Mark Carney, accusing Canada of letting its forests burn and threatening that the United States will “act on our own,” a clear aim at Canadian sovereignty.

The bad faith is obvious; the American politicians had weaponized a climate disaster while carefully avoiding any responsibility as one of the world’s biggest polluters and cast Canada as the sole culprit of a crisis that belongs to everyone. However, the Republicans aren’t entirely wrong, as Canadian wildfire prevention and preparedness is grossly inadequate.


Canada claims to take wildfires and climate change seriously, but the concern never becomes actual policy. Our politicians grandstand against the United States while our wildfire-fighting capabilities quietly erode.


In British Columbia and Alberta, yearly forest firefighting costs routinely double the allocated yearly budget. In Saskatchewan, the approved budget covered barely a fifth of what the 2025 season actually cost. In the Northwest Territories, 70 per cent of the population was evacuated in 2023 alone. And this year, Ontario’s budget set its wildfire fund at $150 million for 2026-27 after spending $271 million the year prior.


At a time when Canada’s last three fire seasons have been among the 10 worst on record, instead of taking the threat more seriously, we are doing the exact opposite.

And it goes further. We aren’t simply failing to address the problem; we’re actively making it worse. By our own government’s admission, Canada is the “worst performing” member of the G7 at reaching the emissions goals set in the 2015 Paris Accord.


The reality is bleak: Canada is the only G7 country whose emissions have risen, rather than fallen since 1990. Canadians are among the highest per capita emitters in the world, and we rank among the top 10 carbon emitters globally, despite being a fraction of its population.


In a country actively threatened by wildfires, it’s inconceivable that we are the only G7 nation without a national wildfire agency. As much as we chastise the Americans for treating climate change as somebody else’s problem, we need to admit that provincial infighting, jurisdictional bureaucracy, and petty squabbles over resources have left us hopelessly ill-prepared every time summer rolls around.


Perhaps we accept the science more readily than the Americans do, but that only makes it worse that we still don’t seem to care enough to act on it. The only time we hold a meaningful conversation about wildfire is once we’ve passed the point of no return.

There is value in seeing our climate crisis in real time, but we need sustained pressure, not periodic spurts of debate.


No doubt, much of what burns is beyond our control, and the opportunistic lawmakers jeering from Washington obviously care nothing for our forests, our air, or us, but rather are trying to push a political message.


However, that doesn’t mean Canada has been adequate in dealing with this crisis, and we shouldn’t allow our frustration with these lawmakers to make us defensive.

Yes, Trump and the Republicans are trying to undermine Canadian sovereignty, and their unconvincing attempts to present a concern for the environment are laughable, but a broken clock is still right twice a day.


Regardless of American intentions, Canada should be criticized for our unpreparedness infighting wildfires. We under fund our forces, cut our budgets, and still increase our emissions.

While wildfire prevention is far from our sole responsibility, readiness is a responsibility we keep declining to meet.

Stephanie Grisham seeks restraining order against Rep. Max Miller as abuse allegations mount

Former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham has filed a restraining order against Rep. Max Miller, adding another legal front to a sprawling domestic abuse saga that now threatens the Ohio Republican's political future.


Grisham, who briefly dated Miller during the first Trump administration, filed the order in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, accusing the congressman of breaching a 2023 settlement agreement that included a nondisclosure provision barring disparaging public comments. The filing follows Miller's decision to post on X on May 7, publicly claiming Grisham had fabricated her abuse allegations against him, a move her attorneys say destroyed the "contractual benefit of peace and finality" the settlement was designed to protect.


The restraining order is the latest in a widening circle of legal and personal crises surrounding Miller. His ex-wife, Emily Moreno, the daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio), has separately alleged in court filings and police reports that Miller shoved her, dumped scalding water on her that left burn marks, and held a gun to her head. She is now seeking full custody of their two-year-old daughter.


Two women, two sets of allegations, one congressman

Grisham first raised abuse claims in her 2021 memoir, "I'll Take Your Questions Now," writing that an ex-boyfriend, later identified as Miller, had physically abused her during their relationship. Politico reported at the time that Miller pushed Grisham against a wall and slapped her. Miller denied the allegations and filed a defamation lawsuit against her in Cuyahoga County, claiming she acted with "actual malice" to harm him, retaliate against the Trump administration, and boost book sales. A judge denied Miller's request for an immediate restraining order in that case.


The defamation suit settled in August 2023, weeks before it was due to go to trial. The settlement included the nondisclosure agreement that Grisham now alleges Miller violated.


Miller married Emily Moreno in 2022 at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey. He filed for divorce in August 2024, on their second wedding anniversary. The split has since produced a cascade of accusations. Emily Moreno's court filings allege a pattern of violence, and a police report from earlier this year raised concerns about their daughter's broken collarbone and "what appeared to be a handprint bruise" on the child's shoulder.


Miller has denied all of Emily Moreno's claims. He has also filed a defamation suit against his ex-wife, and he counter-alleged that she has bipolar disorder and was responsible for their daughter's injury.


Miller's own records undercut his defense

On Sunday, Miller released a trove of records he argued would exonerate him. The effort appears to have backfired. Audio included in those records captured Miller acknowledging his ex-wife's claim that he dumped hot water on her in 2024. The same recordings included Emily Moreno accusing him of drug use.


In a June 5 interview with Spectrum News, Miller addressed the abuse allegations head-on. He told the outlet:

"Without question, every allegation should be taken seriously. What should be noted is that allegation came out on the same day as somebody's book launch."


Miller also pointed to his ex-wife as a character witness for the period covered by Grisham's claims:

"And the other part, what I would like to discuss, is my ex-wife was with me every single day during that time of my life... and she, in her own words, will tell you that I never did any of those things."


That defense has aged poorly. Emily Moreno is now the second woman to accuse Miller of domestic violence, and she has sought her own restraining order against him. A separate filing alleged Miller physically grabbed Emily Moreno's attorney, Andrew Zashin, during a February 1 hearing and used a slur against Zashin's fiancée.

Grisham sued Miller last month alleging the Spectrum News interview itself violated the NDA from their 2023 settlement. Her attorneys argued in the Monday filing that Miller's public statements, particularly his May 7 post on X accusing Grisham of fabricating her allegations, eroded the settlement's protections.


Sen. Moreno breaks his silence, calls Miller a danger

Sen. Bernie Moreno, Miller's former father-in-law, posted on X Sunday calling on Miller to step down from Congress. The Republican senator said he had tried to handle the matter privately but could no longer stay silent.


"Out of concern for the safety of my family, I hoped to keep this matter private, but Max Miller's increasingly erratic and dangerous behavior has made that impossible. He is a danger to my daughter, and I hold my breath every minute he has custody of my granddaughter."


Moreno added a pointed challenge to his party: "If there are any basic standards of character required to hold elected office, Max Miller fails them." He also argued Miller needs psychological help. The senator's public demand for Miller's resignation marked a significant escalation, a sitting Republican senator calling out a Republican House member by name over conduct allegations.


President Trump addressed the situation Monday, telling reporters he would not intervene directly. "It's a very sad thing. I know Max. He's a good person. I'm going to let the families figure that out," the president said. He added: "But it's accusations, and I'm gonna let them figure that out." Trump has not revoked his endorsement of Miller.


Wednesday deadline looms over a vulnerable seat

Miller faced a Wednesday deadline to step aside so Ohio Republicans could nominate a replacement for his House seat. As of the article's publication, he had not done so. His team declined comment Tuesday. Attorney Mark Zaid, who represents Grisham, also did not respond to a request for comment.


The political stakes are real. A recent Democrat-sponsored poll showed Miller leading his Democratic opponent, Bernie-Sanders-backed Brian Poindexter, by just one point in Ohio's 7th District, a seat Trump carried by 11 percentage points in 2024. If accurate, the margin suggests the abuse allegations have already eroded Miller's standing in a district that should be safe Republican territory.


Miller has publicly vowed to stay in the race despite the mounting pressure. Meanwhile, an Ohio judge earlier dismissed Miller's own domestic violence petition against Emily Moreno, finding no evidence he was harmed, a ruling that further weakened his counter-narrative.


Two women. Two restraining orders. A custody fight over a toddler. A fellow Republican senator calling him unfit. And a House seat slipping toward competitive. If there is a path forward for Max Miller, it runs through a courthouse, not a campaign trail.

Forum shopping, single-judge divisions, and the shadow docket — how both machines choose the referee before the whistle

Part V closed on the finding that the pipeline never buys obedience at the Supreme Court — it buys a probability distribution and lives with the variance. Now descend one floor, because the machines learned the same lesson years ago and drew the obvious conclusion: if the top of the system only sells odds, buy your certainty lower down. There are ninety-four federal district courts under the marble showroom, more than six hundred district judges, and — this is the entire trick — local rules that in some places let the person filing the lawsuit know, to a near-mathematical certainty, which judge will hear it before the complaint is signed.


The pipeline buys probability. The switchboard sells certainty. A justice must be confirmed — hearings, a floor vote, an eight-figure air war. A district judge must merely be found. This installment walks the finding: the mechanics, the Amarillo case study this series has owed you since Part II, the mirror version now running against the current administration, the rulebook fight the judiciary lost to itself, and the emergency lane that connects the whole substructure to the top of the building.

How the trick works

Federal law gives each district court power over its own case assignments (28 U.S.C. § 137). Most districts randomize across all their judges. But many divide themselves into geographic divisions and assign cases to judges within the division where the suit is filed

— and some divisions have exactly one judge. File there, and random assignment is a coin with one face. The Judicial Conference itself, announcing its 2024 policy, said the quiet part in its own press release: in single-judge divisions, this practice “allowed litigants to essentially pre-select the judge.” Tier 1 — uscourts.gov.


Now put that next to what Parts II and IV documented and you see the full production line. The machines already manufacture the plaintiff (Part V’s 303 Creative walk), manufacture the chorus of amici (Part IV), and pre-position the appellate terrain — because a division sits inside a district, a district inside a circuit, and choosing Amarillo doesn’t just buy you a judge; it buys you the Fifth Circuit above him, just as choosing Boston buys you the First. The judge-selection device selects the appeals court too. One filing address, three layers of referee.

Amarillo, inch by inch

The promised walk. Watch the machine execute every step.


Step one — build the plaintiff. In August 2022, a coalition of anti-abortion medical groups incorporated a brand-new entity, the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, in Amarillo, Texas. None of the founding organizations was based there. The incorporation preceded the lawsuit by roughly three months. Tier 1 — Texas corporate filings.


Step two — choose the address. Amarillo is a single-judge division of the Northern District of Texas. For years, a civil case filed there drew Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk — a Trump appointee with a pre-bench record at a religious-liberty litigation shop — with roughly 95 percent certainty. Filing in Amarillo was not choosing a courthouse. It was choosing a man. Tier 1/2.


Step three — collect. In November 2022, the freshly minted Alliance sued the FDA over mifepristone’s decades-old approval. In April 2023, Kacsmaryk issued the ruling suspending that approval nationwide — a decision affecting every state in the union, obtained from a bench chosen by incorporation paperwork. Tier 1 — the docket.


Step four — the ceiling. And then the honest ending, because the tiers cut all directions. In June 2024, the Supreme Court threw the case out 9–0 — FDA v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, Kavanaugh writing — for lack of standing. Not one justice, of either machine’s production line, would touch a plaintiff this obviously assembled. Read that beside Part V’s 303 Creative dissection and the pattern completes: the switchboard can buy you the district judge and the circuit; it cannot yet buy you Article III standing at the top. And note what the losing side got anyway. Whether or not delay was the subjective goal — no one can prove another party’s intent, and this series does not pretend to — the operational product between the Amarillo filing and the 9–0 reversal was eighteen months of nationwide uncertainty over a drug approved in 2000. That interval is what the switchboard reliably delivers, win or lose, and it is measurable on a calendar rather than inferred from motives. 

Tier 1 — the docket dates.


One more Amarillo artifact, because it tells you who has learned the game: in late 2024, a Florida resident sued a New York broadcaster over a national television interview — in Amarillo, on the theory that some Panhandle residents had watched it. The plaintiff was Donald Trump; the defendant was CBS; the settlement was large. When the sitting president of the United States forum-shops a defamation suit into a one-judge Texas division, the practice is no longer a litigation tactic. It is civic knowledge. Tier 1/2 — the docket and the Brennan Center’s write-up.

Every government needs one man willing to run directly into social-media traffic without looking both ways.


For the Carney Liberals, that man is Mark Gerretsen.

Gerretsen has developed an unusual political strategy. He logs onto Facebook, finds something involving Pierre Poilievre, becomes extremely excited and presses “post” before the facts can interfere. He recently posted a video accusing Poilievre of lying, only to find himself facing evidence that the accusation itself did not hold up.

 

THE GREAT CARNEY RESCUE

Let us begin in Canada.

Mark Carney arrived as the most heavily advertised competent person in Canadian history.

He had experience, credentials and international connections.

He also had glasses, which apparently helped.


After Justin Trudeau, the Liberal Party presented Carney as the serious adult who had finally arrived to clean up the house.

There was only one small problem.


He had already been standing in the house for years.

Carney was marketed as the outsider who would rescue Canada from policies supported by nearly everyone surrounding him. It was like hiring the assistant captain of the Titanic to investigate why the dining room was wet.


Canadians were told that Carney understood markets, investment, trade, housing, inflation, banking, national security and international finance.

Presumably, he could also assemble IKEA furniture without looking at the instructions.

This man knew everything.

So, what has improved?

Employment, housing:

Alberta leads big time!

Alberta, with just 12 per cent of the national population, has created 90,700 new jobs so far this year. That’s 93 per cent of the national total — 93 per cent!

 

Alberta accounts for nearly a quarter all starts in country and comes close to Ontario’s numbers even though was have less than third of their population. ...Alberta, which has among the most affordable urban real estate in Canada, is scheduled to make up its housing gap over the next three years. At the current national rate, Canada’s overall housing gap will last until at least 2034 or 2035, despite all of the billions the Carney government is pumping into housing.

 

 

And all this despite the "uncertainty" of a Referendum on independence from Ottawa.  Or maybe because of it?

Liberals figuring how to ID "fake news".

The government’s own files admit the problem. Its research found Canadians feel capable of spotting fake news and do not want Ottawa “declaring what is true or not.” The memo concedes that answering misinformation can amplify it, and that going after individuals risks “further backlash.” The department understood the public would object and mapped the plan anyway.


Ottawa has not explained how the monitoring runs, how often lawsuits were floated, or what a post must do to land on the department’s radar. The memo sets no threshold. It names no outside check. It leaves a federal department free to decide which citizens spoke falsely and what the price should be.

Making Plastic Boulders for Saskatoon?

Saskatoon councilors must have rocks in their heads.  Ours too.  Remember all the jokes about "London's Stonehenge"?  AI does.

 

When those large stone pillars were first installed, many locals jokingly dubbed them "London's Stonehenge" or mocked them as looking like a random assortment of highway debris rather than a grand welcoming gateway.


Public art and city-funded entrance features in London often face a bit of lighthearted teasing from residents. Over the years, the conversation around the Veterans Memorial Parkway gateway has included several common complaints and jokes:

  • · The "Stonehenge" Nickname: Because the grey stone blocks stand upright in an open field, they immediately drew comparisons to a budget version of the famous English monument. [1, 2]

  • · Overgrown Weeds: For a long time, the city faced backlash because tall weeds and uncut grass would grow around the base of the stones, completely blocking them from view and making the gateway look neglected. [1]

US national debt $36 trillion? Over the years the privately owned by the Cabal US Inc. government “borrowed” this so-called debt money from their own privately owned by the Cabal Federal Reserve. The government “borrows” money from the Federal Reserve. That money is created out of thin air by the Fed. A number typed on a computer. None of the vaults open. No movement of gold. No transfer of wealth. The number appears on a screen and all of a sudden the government “owes” trillions. And interest.

 

You can’t owe someone something they never owned. You cannot owe an entity that created the “loan” out of thin air. The debt is not real. It is fiction, sustained by the collective belief that numbers on a screen are an obligation.

 

All the money in the world is borrowed. Every. Last. One. The Fed “loans” them into existence . It makes dollars . If the debt was paid off, if every mortgage, every loan, every government bond was paid off, there wouldn’t be a dollar in circulation. Negative. Because the interest never got created.

 

They create $100 out of nothing and ask for $105 back. But there is $100. The $5 interest was never made. Mathematically you can’t pay it back. The system needs a constant growth of debt to work. Not for mismanagement On purpose.
