Hurricane Helene became the second deadliest storm to hit the country in the last 50 years. 

Western North Carolina was devastated by historic flooding after the storm dumped record rainfall into the region. 


That area of the state is nestled in the Appalachian Mountains and its rugged terrain resulted in entire communities being cut off from the outside world during the flooding. 

Complaints about the lack of a response from the federal government came in early as private citizens and charities sprang into action to conduct disaster relief. 

 

Democrats and their media allies began complaining that reports of a failure of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in responding to Helene were misinformation. 

Journalists who were eager to report from the ground in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina were nowhere to be found in North Carolina. 


They wanted to hurt former President George W. Bush politically then but now they want to protect Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of the election. 

Florida State Guardsman drops a truth bomb 

Florida State Guardsman Jonathan Howard was on the ground in Western North Carolina helping in the aftermath of Helene. 


He was part of Operation Blue Ridge, a relief mission launched by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to help in the hard-hit region. 

Howard accused the media of hiding the failures of FEMA and the federal government in Western North Carolina during an interview on Fox News. 

Private citizens were leading the charge to help storm victims there. 

 

“I knew where my governor was before the hurricane, during the hurricane and after,” Howard said. “Then he actually sent me up here to help them fix their problems, but these people have no clue. There’s just there’s no command here at all. Everything we’re getting all of our information off Facebook and private citizen groups.”

Howard said that members of the military were waiting for orders to begin taking part in search and rescue operations. 

 

“I saw some Air Force Blackhawks there with a pair of rescue men,” Howard recalled. “These guys are all rescue specialist paramedics. I went up to them, start talking to them, exchanging Intel, and they’re like, ‘We want to go fly, but we can’t. We’re waiting on Title X orders,’ and I was like, ‘What?’”

President Joe Biden waited nearly a week to activate the military to add much-needed helicopters for search and rescue efforts. 

 

Howard said that many members of the military he talked to were being kept on the sidelines by the Biden-Harris administration. 

“And then I have so many military friends of mine saying… they can’t even get authorization to come here,” Howard said. “And there’s so many military here. I have Guardsmen, I have active duty.


They’re all messaging me. Pilot commanders of pilot divisions, helicopter pilots. And they’re like, ‘We cannot get authorization to go there.”

The Biden-Harris administration failed in its response to the hurricane and had its allies in the media try to cover for them.

Didier Raoult may have had to step down as director of the Institut Hospitalo-Universitaire (IHU) Méditerranée Infection, a research hospital, in September 2022. But the doctor and microbiologist remains active on the scientific publications front.


Evidence of this is a non-peer-reviewed manuscript – i.e., not yet vetted for publication in a scientific journal – published online on April 4. Based on 30,423 Covid-19 patients treated at his institute between March 2, 2020, and December 31, 2021, the preprint described the effectiveness in terms of reduced mortality of the treatment combining hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) and azithromycin (AZ), the famous "Raoult protocol."

 

Unsurprisingly, the new study has drawn methodological criticism from experts. It is also the subject of more serious accusations made in an op-ed signed by various learned societies and figures such as Alain Fischer, president of the French Academy of Sciences. Published in Le Monde, the text focuses on the very nature of the study and its regulatory status. For the signatories, this work constitutes "the largest known unauthorized clinical trial to date." The prescriptions were in fact continued "for more than a year after the formal demonstration of their ineffectiveness." Nuclear ‘artificial sun’ Megaproject grows with Russian involvement:

More than 30 countries are jointly developing the experimental reactor

Russian energy giant Rosatom is extending its participation in a global nuclear fusion megaproject currently being developed in southern France, the company’s CEO Aleksey Likhachev has said.

 

The International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project, also dubbed the world’s largest ‘artificial sun,’ is being developed jointly by companies from China, the EU, India, Japan, South Korea, Russia and the US. The project’s goal is to create a safe and almost limitless supply of electricity.

 

On Tuesday, Likhachev held a meeting with the project’s Director General Pietro Barabaschi, who had arrived in Russia on a work visit. They discussed issues related to Russia’s fulfilment of its obligation to manufacture and supply equipment.


“We are grateful to the ITER leadership, which is demonstrating not just a fair and honest position, but is also keenly engaging and expanding Russia’s participation in this project,” Likhachev told journalists following a meeting which took place at Rosatom headquarters in Moscow.


In turn, Barabaschi described the discussion as “very productive,” saying that “after some difficulties, we are getting now again on track, we have a new plan ahead.”

“Russia’s contribution, like that of all other ITER members, is very important, demonstrating a common commitment to the development of fusion energy that will exist for the benefit of the entire world. This contribution covers all areas - from critical components to key technological innovations,” ITER’s director-general stressed.

 

ITER was set in motion in 1985, after a summit between then-US president Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev. The tokamak is projected to become be the world’s most powerful fusion device, capable of generating large-scale nuclear reactions.

 

The multibillion-euro project has faced a series of technical challenges and cost issues over the years, including due to Ukraine conflict-related sanctions.

Russia is a key supplier of 25 sophisticated high-tech systems for the future facility. The delivery of this unique equipment is being carried out on time, in full compliance with the reactor’s construction schedule, according to Rosatom.

WASHINGTON — TD Bank will pay approximately $3 billion in a historic settlement with U.S. authorities who said Thursday that the financial institution's lax practices allowed significant money laundering over multiple years.

Canada-based TD Bank pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit money laundering, the largest bank in U.S. history to do so, Attorney General Merrick Garland said.

 

“TD Bank created an environment that allowed financial crime to flourish," Garland said. “By making its services convenient for criminals, it became one.”

High-level executives were alerted to serious problems with the bank’s anti-money laundering program, but failed to correct them as employees openly joked about how easy it seemed to be for criminals to launder money there, Garland said.

 

The bank is the 10th largest in the United States, and its CEO said the company takes full responsibility and has been cooperating with the investigation. It's been taking steps to fix its U.S. anti-money laundering program, including appointing new leadership and adding hundreds of new specialists, said TD Bank Group CEO Bharat Masrani.


“We know what the issues are, we are fixing them. As we move forward, we’re ensuring that this never happens again,” Masrani said. “And I’m 100% confident that we get to the other side and emerge even stronger.”

The Justice Department said the bank allowed at least three different money laundering networks to move a total of $670 million through TD Bank accounts over a period of several years.

 

The institution became the bank of choice for multiple criminals and money laundering organizations, authorities said.

“From fentanyl and narcotics trafficking, to terrorist financing and human trafficking, TD Bank’s chronic failures provided fertile ground for a host of illicit activity to penetrate our financial system,” said Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Wally Adeyemo.

In one case, a man moved more than $470 million in drug proceeds and other illicit funds through TD Bank branches, bribing employees with more than $57,000 in gift cards.

 

He chose TD Bank because it had the “most permissive policies,” more than once depositing more than $1 million in cash in a single day and then moving the funds out of the bank with checks or wire transfers, Garland said. It continued despite employees expressing concern about what he was doing.

There were also piles of cash dumped on a bank’s counters and ATM withdrawals that totaled 40 times to 50 times higher than the daily limits, said Philip Sellinger, U.S. attorney in New Jersey.

 

In a separate scheme, five employees worked with criminal organizations to open and maintain accounts that were used to launder $39 million to Colombia, including drug proceeds, Garland said.


There were also multiple red flags in that case, including that the same Venezuelan passports were used to open multiple accounts, but the bank did not identify the problem until one of the employees was arrested.


In a third scheme, a money laundering network had accounts for at least five shell companies that moved more than $100 million in illicit funds, but the bank did not file a required suspicious activity report until law enforcement alerted it.

 

The bank's “long-term, pervasive, and systemic deficiencies” in its policies over a period of nine years allowed such abuses to flourish, prosecutors said.

Two dozen people have been prosecuted for involvement in money-laundering schemes, including two TD Bank employees, Garland said. The investigation is ongoing.


The bank has also agreed to major restructuring of the corporate compliance program in its U.S. operations, as well as three years of monitoring and five years of probation.
