When I was actively managing radio stations, the Canadian Radio Television Commission had a mandate to insure "balance", to make sure a variety of viewpoints was available on the broadcast spectrum. Just like universities did back then. It was all about equal opportunity and diversity of views. Freedom of expression for the arts too. Thus we heralded the advent of Sun TV which added a right-wing perspective to the left-wing CBC radio and TV broadcasters. Back then, CTV was somewhat in the middle presenting two sides to most controversial issues, thanks in no small part to their 11 pm anchor Larry Henderson who insisted on fairness and balance.


Then along came "political correctness" and journalists and programmers came under direction of Ottawa. We could lose our licenses if we dared to let art and news and talk shows reflect life as it was. For example, men could not be referred to as head of the house or key decision-maker any more. Sun TV was removed from the basic TV channels that came free with cable. Fox was not allowed. This hurt Sun TV's income so hard they went off the air within a couple of years and Ezra Levant re-emerged on the internet with some Sun TV staff calling themselves Rebel News.


Now the leftists have gained control of the major internet companies as well as governments and Main Stream Media who don't just fake news but omit news and views, the hardest sin of all to detect. CTV gives little to no coverage of conservative views. Reuters supplies lop-sided news wire service to every newspaper and broadcaster.
