Pope Francis dead at 88

Pope Francis, the head of the Catholic Church, has died aged 88, the Vatican announced on Easter Monday.

His death will kick off a tightly choreographed series of events, refined over centuries.

“Dearest brothers and sisters, with deep sorrow I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis. At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the house of the Father,” Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Apostolic Chamber, said in a statement.

The pontiff had been diminished by a series of health issues in recent years and was using a wheelchair for some of his recent public appearances. In February 2025, he was hospitalized with severe bronchitis and pneumonia in both lungs.

It was one in a long line of health problems for the pope, who had part of a lung removed as a young man and has become increasingly frail over the years. He underwent two major intestinal surgeries in recent years: in 2021, to remove the left part of his colon; and again to treat an intestinal blockage in June 2023.

For the latter procedure, Francis spent nine days in a Rome hospital and was filmed saying “I’m alive” while being escorted out of the hospital in a wheelchair, surrounded by reporters.

Francis, who was born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Argentina, was the first Jesuit pope and the first native of Latin America.

His liberal views marked a noticeable break from more conservative predecessors and at times sparked pushback from Vatican hard-liners.

But his legacy is also one of complexities, compromises and contradictions, reflecting his often-difficult position as a progressive reformer in a conservative global institution.

Francis was unafraid to wade into politics, publicly feuding with United States President Donald Trump over immigration and rebuking U.S. Vice President JD Vance, a Catholic convert, over apparently instrumentalizing a theological point for migration policy.

Indeed, it seems the pontiff’s last diplomatic function was a lightning visit by Vance, whose motorcade remained in the Vatican for 17 minutes on Easter Sunday, according to media reports.

As a social reformer, Francis will be remembered for taking a gentler view of homosexuality. He insisted being gay is “not a crime” and approved blessings for same-sex couples, while apologizing in 2024 for using a slur to refer to gay men. But he also reiterated that homosexuality is a sin in the eyes of the Church.

On gender, the pontiff hewed closer to tradition in repeatedly ruling out ordaining female priests or deacons — though he named numerous women to roles in the Vatican, including appointing the first woman to head a major department.

He said women who had undergone an abortion should be “forgiven” — yet called a Belgian abortion law “homicidal” and initiated beatification for Belgian King Baudouin, who abdicated his throne for a day rather than sign the law that decriminalized abortion in 1990.

Fittingly for the first non-European pope in 1,300 years since the Syrian Gregory III, Pope Francis crisscrossed the globe ministering to followers along the edges of the Catholic world — from Asia and the Middle East, to the Arctic and the Peruvian Amazon — though his travel plans were often disrupted by bouts of illness.

Sermons during his travels often drew upon themes of environmentalism, for which he was a champion. He took his name from St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and ecology, and his encyclical or papal doctrine called on people to take action for the environment. In 2015, he said: “Clearly, the Bible has no place for a tyrannical anthropocentrism unconcerned for other creatures.”

Pope Francis was a fierce critic of war. He condemned Russia’s “repugnant” invasion of Ukraine and called for Ukraine to “have the courage to raise the white flag.” Although this latter comment, along with his urging of Russian youths to remember their “legacy” as heirs of a “great, enlightened Russian empire,” drew Ukrainians’ ire and forced the Vatican to walk back.

As recently as January 2025, he called the situation in the Gaza Strip “very serious and shameful,” saying in remarks delivered by an aide: “We cannot in any way accept the bombing of civilians.” He was previously criticized by an Israeli minister for calling for an investigation into whether the country’s military campaign in Gaza constituted genocide.

The pope’s recurring health problems had previously fueled speculation that he might resign. Francis himself took over in 2013 as head of the Catholic Church after his predecessor, Benedict XVI, became the first pontiff to resign since 1415.

In December 2022, the pontiff acknowledged he had signed a resignation letter to be used if he ever became medically impaired. But in February 2023, he stressed that pontiffs were nominated “for life” and that resignations should not become the norm.

Speaking to Rai 1 TV, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said she would miss “a pope with whom you could talk about everything … a person who made you feel good, feel at ease. You could speak to him in a simple way, as if he were a parish priest.”

Carney announced Monday that a re-elected Liberal government would create a new entity called “Build Canada Homes,” which would act as a developer to build affordable housing, including on public lands.

The entity would also provide more than $25 billion in financing to prefabricated-home builders in Canada, including those using Canadian technologies and resources, such as softwood lumber, Carney said at a campaign stop in the Toronto area. It would offer an additional $10 billion in low-cost financing and capital to affordable-home builders.

The Canadian government built tens of thousands of affordable starter homes for returning veterans and their families after the Second World War. Now that the country is facing a new housing crunch due to decades of under-building and a post-pandemic immigration boom, Carney argued it’s time for government to start financing home construction again.

He also said his government would catalyze private capital and cut red tape, including by trimming municipal development charges in half for multi-unit residential housing. It would also reintroduce a tax incentive from the 1970s called the Multiple Unit Rental Building cost allowance to spur rental home construction, as well as take steps to facilitate the conversion of existing structures into affordable housing.

Carney’s government would also maintain and build upon the housing accelerator fund, a Liberal government program that transfers cash to municipalities that fast-track approvals of multi-unit housing projects, he said.

When DMSO is combined with hematoxylin, it’s called D-hematoxylin.

And D-hematoxylin does some important things that chemo doesn’t:

D-hematoxylin’s story began back in the 1960s with Eli Jordon Tucker, Jr., M.D., an award-winning orthopedic surgeon based in Texas.

Even before his work with DMSO, Tucker had discoveries under his belt, including how to graft bones from one species to another. Clearly a smart guy.

Because of his work with bone grafting, Tucker owned some cattle. And he noticed that many of the cows being butchered had large tumors covering their faces.

Tucker couldn’t just ignore this observation.

So, he began experimenting.

As part of his experiments, Tucker injected blood from the cattle into lab rats and mice with cancer, but he needed something more to actually be able to see what was happening to the tumors.

Here’s where the dye, hematoxylin, comes in.

While it is normally used to stain tissue for microscope slides, he used it to differentiate between cancer cells and normal cells.

Unfortunately for Tucker, the dye has poor solubility, which limited his ability to use it the way he wanted.

Then DMSO, a powerful solvent, appeared in 1963—just what Tucker needed.

And what he found absolutely stunned him.

By dissolving hematoxylin in DMSO, Tucker created a formula—D-hematoxylin—that not only stained the cancer cells, but it zeroed in on them and destroyed the tumors from the inside out—all while leaving healthy tissue untouched.

The results were nothing short of miraculous.

And Tucker didn’t just get lucky. This effect was repeatable.

Tucker soon treated dozens of patients.

Some of the most striking stories include:

The Forgotten Cancer Cure Hiding in Plain Sight

And here’s where the story makes a sharp turn.

The FDA stepped in.

Tucker appeared to have discovered truly safe and effective cancer treatment. Or at least something worth studying.

So, what did the FDA do? They threatened him.

Tucker was soon silenced and expelled from hospitals for using an “unapproved” therapy.

Even though it worked.

And then in 1978, Tucker had a chance to present his findings to a group of New York City doctors, one of whom was from the FDA.

To really drive the message home, Trucker brought with him Joe Floyd, an Exxon Oil Corporate Executive whom Tucker had previously cured.

Tucker went through his case histories, one by one, and came to a patient with advanced metastatic colon cancer and a poor prognosis—Joe Floyd.

Dr. Pani from the FDA sarcastically asked, “How long did this one last, three months?”

“He’s sitting down in the lobby,” Tucker replied.

Dr. Pani then met the cancer-free patient they had assumed was dead.

And still, nothing happened.

DMSO, not just the cancer-fighting formulation of D-hematoxylin, is making a comeback in a big and necessary way. 

A Midwestern Doctor  has received more than 2,000 stories from readers who have had success using it for all kinds of ailments.

For 50 years, Tucker’s incredible discovery was nearly forgotten—until a Canadian inventor named Jim McCann revived it.

Well, the exact mechanism isn’t fully understood.

But here’s what we do know:

• ·        It binds to DNA—but only in cancer cells

• ·        It may inhibit a cancer enzyme called CK2

• ·        It triggers self-destruction from the tumor’s center outward

• ·        It can cause tumors to break down into non-cancerous “ghost cells”

• ·        Tumor markers plummet within 2 weeks

• ·        No resistance is developed (like with chemo)

• ·        And it never harms normal tissue

But the FDA isn’t interested.

And unlike chemo, D-hematoxylin doesn’t destroy white blood cells or platelets. In fact, it often restores them.

That means:

·        No immune collapse

·        No hair loss

·        No debilitating weakness and sickness

·        No lifelong damage

Yet, despite 60 years of success stories, the FDA isn’t interested.

And the American Cancer Society labeled it a “quack remedy” back in 1971.

COMMENT: Your reporting on the Red Cross and other organizations that facilitate the mass importation of illegals into America is well done. But its purpose is about more than just a move to import a bunch of Biden voters to help secure a second term.

Are you aware of the Cloward and Piven strategy? These were two communist professors who devised a plan to take down the capitalist structure of the United States through mass illegal migration that overwhelms U.S. social safety net programs and local governments. It is an intentional plan to collapse the U.S. and bring in a new (global) regime that will issue ‘guaranteed basic income’ to all.

I’ve never seen you comment on Cloward and Piven, would you care to share whether Socrates shows their plan will be successful?

Overburden the bureaucracy to break the system, create controlled chaos, usurp power as civil unrest peaks, and offer government aid as the only solution. This was the basis behind the Cloward-Piven strategy created by sociologists Frances Fox Piven and her husband, Richard Cloward. The couple published their theory in The Nation Magazine on May 2, 1966, entitled “The Weight of the Poor: A Strategy to End Poverty.”

This was a decade of political activism in America. The war in Vietnam was raging on and the alternative hippie lifestyle became prominent as people protested the violence. The Black Freedom Movement and the push for equal civil rights had peaked and helped to end the Jim Crow laws in the South by 1965. The LA race riots, also known as the Watts Rebellion, occurred in 1965 as well after the police beat a black man who was arrested for a DUI. That particular riot lasted for six days and led to 34 deaths, 1,032 injuries, and over 3,000 arrests. This began a string of riots in America where black Americans and supporters clashed with police, similar to the events that occurred after the death of George Floyd that started the Black Lives Matter movement.

We had major political activists such as Martin Luther King Jr. making real change in America. The intelligence agencies had a close eye on him, and his death in 1968 is a topic for another post. On the other side were the likes of Malcom X, who originally did not advocate for peace as King did. The cohesive movement fell apart with mass unrest and no one at the helm. The movement began with African Americans asking for basic human rights and understandable anger. The purpose of the movement, again similar to BLM, became lost, and the government aimed to use the civil unrest to its advantage.

“[T]he strategy we propose, is a massive drive to recruit the poor onto the welfare rolls,” the sociologists wrote in their theory. This theory aimed to overburden social programs at the state level to give the federal government the power to control the people.

“Widespread campaigns to register the eligible poor for welfare aid, and to help existing recipients obtain their full benefits, would produce bureaucratic disruption in welfare agencies and fiscal disruption in local and state governments. These disruptions would generate severe political strains, and deepen existing divisions among elements in the big-city Democratic coalition: the remaining white middle class, the white working-class ethnic groups and the growing minority poor.”

Cloward and Piven noted that civil unrest was necessary to create change and encouraged the government to antagonize the masses. “The poor are most visible and proximate in the local community; antagonism toward them (and toward the agencies which are implicated with them) has always, therefore, been more intense locally than at the federal level.” As the anger brews and protests erupt, the government will lasso in the masses, acted as both the hero and the villain.

“In order to generate a crisis, the poor must obtain benefits, which they have forfeited. Until now, they have been inhibited from asserting claims by self-protective devices within the welfare system: its capacity to limit information, to intimidate applicants, to demoralize recipients, and arbitrarily to deny lawful claims.”

Tell the people that they are victims and instill a sense of entitlement for their neighbor’s assets. Remind the people consistently that they are oppressed and only an equal distribution of wealth can save them from the confines of poverty. Cloward and Piven insisted that hard work could not “elevate the poor en-mass from poverty.”

“The ultimate objective of this strategy–to wipe out poverty by establishing a guaranteed annual income,” the theory clearly stated. The theory stated that the creation of unions was a good start to bargain collectively, but still not enough to solve poverty. “Union leaders have understood that their strength derives almost entirely from their capacity to provide economic rewards to members,” the theory noted.

“A federal program of income redistribution has become necessary to elevate the poor en masse from poverty,” meaning a shift away from capitalism entirely.

Cloward and Piven stated that a minimum standard of living must be provided to the people through federal welfare. That right must be guaranteed to end oppression, thereby ensuring Guaranteed Basic Income. Furthermore, there could be no conditions for benefits as it “results in violations of civil liberties.” Therefore, expecting able-bodied people to work would be an attack on the welfare system.

The sociologists insisted that most people were in fact eligible for welfare and encouraged the government to advertise in brochures, schools, stores, churches, civic centers, and public housing projects. They even advised the government to send people door-to-door to explain to people that they are oppressed and deserving of GBI as a “civil education drive will lend it legitimacy.”

“As the crisis develops, it will be important to use the mass media to inform the broader liberal community about the inefficiencies and injustices of welfare.” To succeed, the shift away from capitalism required “mass influence” and “publicly visible disruption.” “Crisis can occur spontaneously (e.g., riots) or as the intended result of tactics of demonstration and protest, which either generate institutional disruption or bring unrecognizable eruption to public attention.”

The bigger the crisis, the more power the government could usurp. They noted that politicians paid attention to massive uprisings, and they had been used to “reinforce the allegiance of growing ghetto constituencies to the national Democratic Administration.”

The sociologists noted that the Conservative Republicans would decry a public welfare system and that the Democrats needed to appeal to the emotions of the people over logic. They also urged for “a coalition between poor whites and poor Negroes” to turn the race war into class warfare. “Once eligibility for basic food and rent grants is established, the drain on local resources persists indefinitely.”

Cloward and Piven wanted to overburden the welfare system at the state level to eliminate state rights. Therefore, under this theory, government is encouraged to market a crisis, antagonize the people, and offer a solution. The only solution being to replace capitalism with socialism or communism by which the people would be entirely dependent on the government. You will own nothing and be happy.
