In the ancient world, salt was an expensive valuable commodity. Households used salt to preserve and protect meat from decay. Salt was the medicine of choice among physicians to ward off disease and infection. Employers even used salt to pay workers for a job well done. But if an employee were unproductive, he would be declared “not worth his weight in salt.”

 

Notice in the text that every offering was to be salted. Salt was the opposite of leaven, a symbol of evil and sin, meaning all we offer to God must be pure, sincere, and purged of hypocrisy. Every spiritual offering must be free of earthly contaminates before it can be offered to a holy God. When you and I worship God in our giving and service out of pure hearts and undefiled motives, we do so with a well-salted offering worthy of Him.

 

Jesus also stressed the importance of salt when He challenged His followers to be the salt of the earth (Matthew 5:13). Our world is extremely ill and prone to sin. The Christian, therefore, is to be a salty preservative to slow down and counter the rottenness and evil so pervasive in our day.

 

However, there is another aspect of salt that is of supreme importance in fulfilling Jesus’ commission—salt generates thirst. Christ-followers are to make the unbelieving world thirsty. May we be used not only to preserve what is just and pure but also to make all those we encounter thirsty for the things of God.

Ukraine is Re-Hashing OLD HITS:

This is the second time in a year that Ukraine claims to have hit the Rostov-on-Don submarine.

 

Images from September 2023 show holes blown through the top and side of the 250-foot vessel by a Storm Shadow cruise missile. Reports suggested the submarine would play no further role in Russia’s war in Ukraine after that.

The vessel was believed to be undergoing repairs at Sevastopol naval base in Crimea when it was hit for the second time.

Native Land Claim in Ontario:

Now that the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples has been accept by Canada, courts have to respect native land claims starting with the most justified.  

 

Jul 16, 2020 — In the 2016 census, Statistics Canada counted 35,870 people in Canada who consider Ojibwe-Potawatomi languages (part of the Anishinaabemowin) .

 

More legal settlements like this could tear Canada apart if we can't pay our bills.  How do we recompense the tribes who own the land under Vancouver?  It's legally theirs now.  Which government will be next?

World's most Misquoted Scripture:

Ephesians 2:8-9 says "through" faith, not "by" faith.

Next, the word "alone" was added by Martin Luther.

Finally, the Greek verb means "were, are, and will be" saved (through faith).

 

Read Ellicott's commentary.  There's no English verb that represents a continuing process.  But our salvation is a work in progress.  

 

There is also a lot that should be explained by the word "faith".  It's more than "belief".  The devil believes but does not obey.  The faith Jesus spoke of is both word and deed.  This is why it's important to say "through" faith and not "by" faith.

 

I do think we can say we are "justified" by faith alone (Romans 5:1), but that's a topic for a different day.

Restored Republic:

 

  • In 2021, Roland Brunson filed a massive lawsuit against hundreds of members of Congress for certifying the overthrow of U.S. government on Jan 6.

  • The lawsuit stated they violated their oaths of office by not investigating the criminal conspiracy into election fraud before certifying, “avoiding an investigation on how Biden won the election, is an Act of Treason and an act of levying war on the U.S. Constitution.”

  • The lawsuit was dismissed by the lower courts and the appeals court. Brunson appealed to the Supreme Court, whom ended up denying the petition of certiorari. A month later, Brunson tried to get a rehearing, but was again denied.

  • Brunson filed a new lawsuit, Brunson vs. Sotomayor that accused the three treacherous Justices, Kagan, Sotomayor, and Jackson all recused themselves of violating their Judicial Oath, “the three justices violated their oath of office by giving aid and comfort to enemies of the Constitution, which is an act of treason, fraud, and a breach of contract.”

  • Brunson’s 2nd suit bounced from the State to the Federal courts, where it was ultimately dismissed because the Supreme Court Justices enjoy Sovereign Immunity.

  • Brunson appealed this decision again to the Supreme Court

  • On May 2, 2024 the Solicitor General of the US, Elizabeth Prelogar, as the Attorney for the Supreme Court Justices being sued, waived the US Gov’s right to respond to the petition, leaving the decision up to the Supreme Court, and the Supreme Court REJECTED the petition without giving any reason.
