Toronto police charge protester with hate crime for waving terrorist flag
Toronto police have taken the unusual step of charging a man who marched downtown waving a flag representing a group that Canada has declared a terrorist organization. Police would not say what the flag was. It’s the latest example of the challenges facing police forces who must draw the line between free speech and hate speech.
Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw announced the “unprecedented” arrest of the man, who was charged with inciting hatred, at a police board meeting Thursday during an update on the increasing number of antisemitic and other hate crimes occurring after the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas on Israel.
He added that his force will ban demonstrations from a contentious highway overpass and begin policing protests at certain locations – such as Jewish-owned restaurants – with a “criminal lens” that may result in more arrests aimed at stopping the intimidation of that community.
Michael Kovrig lends support in sentencing hearing to ex-RCMP intelligence official found guilty of sharing secrets
A letter of support from Michael Kovrig, the former Canadian diplomat whose long detention in China strained relations between Ottawa and Beijing, was filed in court on Thursday for Cameron Ortis, an ex-RCMP intelligence director who now faces sentencing after being found guilty of illegally leaking secrets to the targets of international criminal probes.
The letter will be considered by a judge, along with similar letters from more than two dozen other people and submissions from defence counsel and the Crown, as the Ontario Superior Court determines the severity of Ortis’s penalty.
In November, a jury found Ortis, 51, guilty of four counts of violating the country’s secrets law. He was also found guilty of breach of trust and unauthorized use of a computer. The Crown is seeking two consecutive sentences of 14 years, which would mean a 28-year prison term.

On Tuesday, a Trump lawyer blasted Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis for allegedly hiring a lover and authorizing payments totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars.
An official document filed by lawyers representing Michael Roman states that Willis allegedly appointed Nathan Wade, a personal injury attorney who is said to have had an affair with the district attorney of Fulton County, as a special prosecutor to aid in the prosecution of Trump, who is facing a 13-count indictment that includes RICO charges.
Alina Habba slammed Willis for the money she gave Wade; Wade allegedly collected over $600,000 in compensation that Willis authorized.
“If those allegations are true, Sean, that is so disturbing on so many levels.”
First and foremost, Habba informed Fox News anchor Sean Hannity that the funds allocated from the state of Georgia are funding her boyfriend, who has joined forces with her to investigate and even prosecute Trump.
“For the American people that, when I thought we couldn’t get lower, when I thought we really couldn’t attack him anymore, with literally no self-respect and dignity, we have this. We have a woman now bringing in somebody who’s her boyfriend, paying him quadruple – 10 times what she’s making, whatever the number is, and then vacationing on taxpayer dollars, and then in their spare time talking about going after Trump.”
Additionally, Habba slammed the journalists who were caught on camera making jokes about a Trump assassination attempt while he was speaking at oral arguments in the case. The court is hearing an appeal from a ruling by District Judge Tanya Chutkan of the District of Columbia, who denied Trump’s attorneys’ request to drop the charges from a four-count indictment that special counsel Jack Smith gathered in August.
“To joke about an assassination of a former president and leading candidate is deranged, it’s sick and it should be handled appropriately,” Habba declared.
The accusations against Willis, according to Habba, demonstrated that Trump was the object of political persecution. “They’ll accuse him of the things they’re doing themselves, and that is the case right here,” Habba said.
“It’s a perfect example. It says it all. If this is true, if she really was using taxpayer dollars to funnel vacations, and then go after Trump, completely disregarding ethics, completely prosecuting, it’s called selective prosecution, you are going after someone as a target, and then teaming up with your friends.”
“The only RICO I see is the RICO with the DAs and AGs that is happening,” Habba added.
“The conspiracy is not a conspiracy at all. We have Soros-backed and other funders that we’ve seen, that are backing these individuals, and they are coordinating, they are profiting and they are becoming famous, and politically, their agenda is all the same: Get Trump. That is the only RICO case I see here. That is the only RICO case. The facts are the truth: Donald Trump has done nothing wrong and they have intentionally done this… to interfere in an election because they can’t beat him in the polls.”
Democrats were hoping that the indictments being brought against Donald Trump would be enough of a smear campaign to prevent Donald Trump from being able to even get close to winning the 2024 Presidential election.
Instead, the former Republican president is as politically strong as ever if the polls and surveys of the last several months are any indication at all.
If anything, it’s the Trump prosecutors who are having their reputations completely shredded into pieces as the American people largely believe the legal charges being brought against Donald Trump are unfair.
The corruption of people like Fani Willis is on full display and the Democrats can’t hide from it.

Many greeted the news that former CNN diva Don Lemon would be hosting a show on the X platform with great enthusiasm after his absence from the media, but Megyn Kelly was not one of them.
The conservative journalist and podcaster savaged Lemon over his grand return, devoting a segment to a man whom she has frequently criticized on Thursday’s edition of “The Megyn Kelly Show” on Sirius XM.
“Our old pal Don Lemon has resurfaced or is about to resurfaced…resurface,” Kelly began. “And I realize that the magnanimous move is to say, ‘good for Don, he got canceled off of CNN and now he’s reinventing himself on Twitter.”
“Well, pfffft, that’s not what I say,” she continued.
“I think he’s disgusting. He hates America. He hates Republicans and I’m not looking forward to his voice reemerging other than to mock it which I 100 percent plan to do,” Kelly said, adding that mocking the host is the “only silver lining” to his reemergence.
“So, he’s going out on X, alright, it’s like ‘Oh great, Tucker did it on X and Tucker and I got fired on the same day, so I’ll go out on X,’ and Don Lemon comes out…”, as she read his Wednesday announcement.
“I’ve heard you… and today I am back bigger, bolder, freer! My new media company’s first project is The Don Lemon Show. It will be available to everyone, easily, whenever and wherever you want it, streaming on the platforms where the conversations are happening,” the fired CNN personality stated.
“I’ve heard you,” Kelly mockingly said. “Like the masses are clamoring ‘Where’s Don?'”
“Honestly, and like there are people welcoming Don back to the national conversation and for those people and others, I just have a little reminder for you of who Don Lemon is and why we can’t stand him, here you go,” she offered, as footage rolled of Lemon’s CNN days of mocking Republicans, Donald J. Trump and vaccine skeptics, with former BFF Chris Cuomo and Lincoln Project slimeball Rick Wilson.
“He’s shown us who he is, believe him,” Kelly said after the panel had a round of laughs at Lemon’s expense. “This is not someone who I’m rooting for. I’m not saying he should never be allowed to speak again. I’m just saying I don’t have to personally cheerlead it or think it’s a good thing or recognize that this is like some sort of important voice in the conversation and yay for Elon for making it possible for him to come back.”

The contentious “CNN This Morning” segment led to Licht pulling the plug on his star only weeks before he himself was fired after an internal mutiny over his decision to feature a town hall with former President Donald J. Trump.

Her campaign is being backed by Democrats on Wall Street and in Big Tech because they know she will keep things business as usual for their industries if she replaces President Joe Biden.

LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, a Democrat megadonor, poured $250,000 into the pro-Haley super PAC Stand For America Fund Inc.
JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon urged “liberal Democrats” to donate to her as “a choice on the Republican side that might be better than Trump.”
“She likes the globe. I like America first,” Trump said. “The establishment losers and sellouts lagging far behind us in the Republican primary can’t be trusted on taxes or trade or anything else. They’re globalists, and they always will be.”
Trump has mostly ignored Haley during the Primary outside of giving her the nickname “Birdbrain.”
Haley has seen a polling surge in New Hampshire where she can court a large pool of liberal New England Republicans, Independents, and Democrats who switched their party affiliation.
The former President dismissed the polls showing Haley closing in on him as more “fake” news.
“Hey, listen, they had a poll last week, it was a classic, just to show you how fake the media is,” Trump said. “So the headline was ‘Haley surges.’ I said, uh-oh, this is bad, I better read this little thing. So I went up seven points to 74, okay? I went up seven. She went up two points and Ron DeSanctimonious went down one. So instead of being down two points, she was even with Ron DeSanctimonious.”

Iowa and New Hampshire have two different electorates.
Evangelical Christians dominate the Iowa Caucuses, whereas the ability of undeclared voters to cast a ballot in New Hampshire usually benefits the most liberal candidate.
That’s why no GOP candidate has won contested races in both Iowa and New Hampshire since the GOP adopted the modern primary set up in 1976.
Trying to navigate these waters proved treacherous for Haley.
First, Haley insulted the voters in Iowa by telling a crowd in New Hampshire that their role in the GOP nominating process is to “correct” the result of Iowa.
Haley then compounded that error by telling PBS Iowa that you need to adopt a new “personality” to campaign in New Hampshire as opposed to Iowa.
This evoked memories of one of the gaffes that helped kill Mitt Romney in 2012, when one of his chief advisors compared Romney to an etch-a-sketch that you can reshape once the Primary is over to fit a General Election voter pool.
Haley’s trying to fake it until she makes it in Iowa.
In the last closing weeks, Haley wants to make her big push in New Hampshire while doing just well enough to claim she beat expectations in Iowa to claim momentum.
But the true Haley is sympatico with the more liberal electorate in New Hampshire.
A candidate such as Haley, who claims Republicans need to make their peace with abortion on demand or opposes legislation to ban transgender surgeries for children, would crash and burn in Iowa.

Arrested for asking an aggressive question
Reporter David Menzies of the Rebel News was conducting a walk-and-talk interview with Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland when his life was forever changed.
Menzies had the audacity to ask a critical question of the ironically named, Freeland.
The question in question: Why is Canada not recognizing Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization?
As you can see in the above video, that’s when one of Freeland’s personal police body-checked Menzies.
If that weren’t bad enough, the same officer then arrested Menzies for supposed, “assault on a police officer.”

At 0:09, you can see a police officer standing where he knows David Menzies is walking. You can see Menzies pivot away from the pole and officer, who then puts out an arm to stop him. Same officer arrests Menzies for assaulting a police officer. This is an egregious overreach.
“I was just scrumming Chrystia Freeland,” Menzies said while he was being pushed around by the guard.
“Scrumming” comes from the term, “media scrum,” which is a term for an informal interview or “press conference” used in many anglosphere countries since “press” typically refers to just printed media.
The Biden administration is taking notes.
While arresting Menzies, the officer can be heard saying that the reporter’s line of questioning was “a little bit aggressive.”
How long before President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris steal the Canadian tactic and have armed guards arresting the likes of Peter Doocy at White House press briefings?

The alleged offences all took place in or near Fort St. John, B.C., about 800 kilometres northeast of Vancouver, McLaughlin said. The interference and exploitation charges are for alleged offences on Dec. 29, 2023, while the child pornography charges occurred on Dec. 31, he added.
The allegations have not been tested or proven in court.
Gravells served as board president for the North Peace Pride Society (NPPS) since 2018, according to a now-deleted biography on the organization’s website, but the NPPS says it recently removed him from the role.

Cops Disarm Homeless in Edmonton:
Police in Edmonton have seized a cache of five dozen weapons while dismantling homeless encampments.
The Edmonton Police Service announced Tuesday the seizure of 60 weapons from Dawson Park, including 34 knives, 11 machetes, and 10 samurai swords along with pellet guns, axes, brass knuckles, and a collapsible baton.
The police used the seizure to underscore the escalating risks associated with the ballooning camps, which law enforcement have started to break down in the last week.
In addition to weapons, police officers have said that the camps are also dangerous due to fires, propane tanks, needles, and toxic drugs.
The photos of the weapons were shared to the Edmonton Police Services’ social media accounts two hours before officers were set to clear the eighth encampment deemed high risk by the city and the police. An injunction had previously stalled the encampment removals.
Last month’s court order specified conditions for clearing eight encampments flagged as safety hazards, like ensuring adequate shelter space and giving a 48-hour notice to residents. Social agencies are also to be provided notice at “earliest convenience”.
The City of Edmonton confirmed with the government of Alberta that there was sufficient shelter space before the closure planned for Tuesday. However, police say the requirement for advance notice has increased risks.
“We’ve seen booby traps in some encampments, and those pose real risks to our officers, to the cleanup crew, and to the general public,” Deputy Chief Warren Driechel said, according to CTV News.
Adding to the danger of the encampments, low-level gangsters have been living in the encampments, police said.
“They’re not overly sophisticated organizations. But what they make up for is the level of violence that they use,” said Driechel. “Not only do they victimize people within encampments, the crime that’s occurring on the street, the drug dealing, they turn on each other quite quickly. They are extremely ruthless.”
The dismantling of these encampments has not been without resistance. One instance of opposition occurred at Tuesday’s encampment sweep. This event escalated when a crowd that had gathered throughout the day reacted to the arrest of a man by EPS officers. The man was arrested for assaulting a peace officer, and the charges are pending.
The police action, backed by the city, aims to dismantle these encampments deemed high-risk due to various factors, including fire risks, drug use, gang violence, and proximity to sensitive areas like schools and playgrounds.
Currently, 750 more camps in the city are classified as high-risk, and EPS plans to continue monitoring and removing them.
On Tuesday, some residents of the encampment refused to leave.
“I’m making my stand! What are we doing? We’re standing up for our rights!” yelled Roy Cardinal, who only recently became homeless. Cardinal eventually allowed the police to dismantle empty tents, and an Edmonton city bus was deployed to provide warmth for the people present.
The city says the encampment was “cleaned” but not cleared.
“Vacant structures and excessive debris were removed so that some of the onsite health and safety risks were reduced. No occupants left the site today,” said the city in a statement.
“While the planned closure was in full compliance with the city’s obligations under the interim order, including providing advanced notice to social agencies, the city adjusted its approach given the number of third parties on site.”
The risks of injury and death due to fire remain extremely high, said the city. Edmonton Fire Rescue Services have responded to 135 fires in encampments this year, resulting in 22 injuries and three deaths. In the last week, two fires have led to injuries, and one propane tank has exploded.
According to Homeward Trust Edmonton, there are 2,987 homeless people in the city as of Jan. 6, 2024. Of those, 1,714 are provisionally accommodated, 755 are unsheltered, and 518 are staying in overnight shelters.
Between Jan. 1 and Oct. 22 last year, 13,683 complaints were registered from members of the public regarding homeless encampments.
In collaboration with the Alberta government and EPS, the city continues to assess and address the risks at these sites, complying with court orders and advocating for resources to tackle the underlying causes of homelessness.
