Merry Christmas!Every week we update you here on our activities in Washington and around the country. There’s another word for this information – tidings, which means news. It’s a term usually trotted out only at Christmas time.And then it takes on lustrous connotations.
In the English carol, “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” we find these lyrics:
We wish you a merry Christmas And a happy New Year.Good tidings we bring To you and your kin;
The word appears in another English carol, “God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen.”
God rest you merry, Gentlemen,
Let nothing you dismay,
For Jesus Christ our Saviour

To save poor souls from Satan’s power,
Which long time had gone astray.
Which brings tidings of comfort and joy.
As you might have noted above, in the earliest versions of the carol’s first line the comma was in a different place than it is today. Because of the way people understood the word rest several hundred years ago, inserting the comma after “God rest you merry” created the meaning of “God keep you pleasant, bountiful, and prosperous.” There’s a related word, tide, which means a season. Thus, we have Christmastide, which, like tidings, we don’t use often today.
I’ve taken this etymological journey to arrive here: Amid all the bad news, and fake news, in our time, we can still celebrate the Good News of this season. We can recall that some things haven’t changed since the first Christmas, which was darkened by a wicked ruler, crooked tax assessors, and an unborn child at risk. And life was no easier centuries later when these carols were written.What is important is that there was, and still is,

The Shocking Current State of Canada:

Last weekend, Canadians were shocked to see video footage of masked pro-Palestine protesters screaming at police officers and reportedly uttering death threats against shoppers – all within the vicinity of children visiting Santa at a mall in Toronto.
The Toronto Police took to social media – not to announce any arrests, but to confirm that they are “not pursu[ing] the matter.”
Not very long ago, such a situation would have been unthinkable.
But, this is 2023. And we’re in Canada.
In Justin Trudeau’s Canada, we don’t just elevate the terrible elements of society: we actively tear down our own history and culture, too.
We do things that make absolutely no sense in order to appease the tiny woke mob.
· Ryerson High School was renamed Old North Public School.
· Ryerson University is now named Toronto Metropolitan University.
· Just last week, Toronto city council voted unanimously to rename Dundas Square (named for Henry Dundas, a slavery abolitionist) to Sankofa Square (a name which originated from a tribe known for its role in the slave trade).
· After decades of a primary Winnipeg thoroughfare being named Bishop Grandin, city council voted in March to rename the highway to unpronounceable Abinojii Mikanah.
· Unsurprisingly, the legacy media has cheered this idiocy along.
· The CBC claimed the aforementioned name alterations are “inspiring change”, while the Winnipeg Free Press claimed such stories are “teachable moment[s]”.
It would almost be comical if we weren’t simultaneously excusing actual current violence against other groups.
Christians have been targeted since the “unmarked graves” story broke a few years ago.
No, no mass graves were ever found at all, but the violent left doesn’t care: 83 Christian churches have been – and continue to be! – targeted by arsonists.
Most of the legacy media shrugged their shoulders at this news, and Justin Trudeau’s own top advisor tweeted that the arsons were “understandable”.
This is the sad state of Canada in 2023.
People who donate to the peaceful trucker protest have their bank accounts frozen, while masked jihadists screaming death threats in downtown Toronto go unpunished.
All while the legacy media yawns.
This is why True North exists.

Vindictive GA DA Fani Willis Announces What She Plans to Do With Trump In Prison:
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis informed CNN that former President Donald Trump will not receive a “special break” or exemption from imprisonment if found guilty of racketeering charges in Georgia.
Trump, alongside over a dozen co-defendants who worked in his orbit, is being charged with attempting to subvert the 2020 presidential election in Georgia. He was formally charged this year. Trump had his iconic mugshot photograph taken at Fulton County Jail which instantly went viral.
The former president typically becomes more popular and rises in the polls whenever new charges are brought against him.
Willis, who Trump has accused of being racist, spoke with CNN’s Nick Valencia on Thursday. She was questioned about the possibility of the Republican 2024 frontrunner being incarcerated if found guilty on his charges. Willis stated her intention to propose a suitable sentencing to the court, emphasizing that “no one gets a special break.”
WILLIS: I know that in the media, and even in the world, we like instant gratification. The judicial process is a long process, and so we’ll be here with that case for a while.

Jesse Watters Goes Ballistic on Liberal – Shouts To End Segment Immediately:
Jesse Watters of Fox News exhibited a strong emotional reaction in response to Jessica Tarlov’s assertion that a monetary transaction amounting to $200,000, sent by Jim Biden to Joe Biden on March 1, 2018, does not serve as conclusive evidence connecting the latter to global commercial activities.
The television program featured a segment whereby the newly appointed Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, expressed the viewpoint held by conservatives that Hunter Biden’s father and other family members were implicated in commercial transactions. Furthermore, it was mentioned that Republican members of the House of Representatives are contemplating the issuance of a subpoena to summon Hunter Biden for the purpose of testifying regarding these allegations.
Jessica and her ilk for years have said, ‘Well, you don’t have money going directly into Joe Biden’s bank account.’ All right, so now we have a check for $200,000 from one company through the brother to Joe’s bank account,” Watters began.
“Ok, you still say that that’s not from overseas. That was a loan. Ok, ok. What happens if the next check originates somewhere really bad, Jessica? And I mean really bad. And it goes through Hunter or James, and it goes directly into Joe Biden’s checking account? Is that your smoking gun? Is that your smoking gun, Jessica? Because, as you said, that was a smoking gun if money went from overseas directly into Joe Biden’s bank account. If a check comes out at some point from that avenue, is that a smoking gun?” Watters asked as tensions began to rise.
“Ok, so two things —” Tarlov began before Watters immediately shot back, “Yes or no?”
“No,” Tarlov said.
“It’s not? Woah, woah, woah. Jessica! For a year, you said, ‘The money never hit his bank account.’ What if I have a check that hits his bank account that comes from overseas? Is that not a smoking gun?” Watters asked.
Tarlov attempted to interject while Watters persistently expressed his opinions.
“Someone help me out,” she pleaded with her co-hosts as Watters continued to interrupt. “Ok, if, uh, uh, uh, Ok —”
Tarlov was afforded the opportunity to elucidate that the check under consideration by the panel was issued with a date in the year 2018, before to the assumption of the presidency by Biden.
“Is he in elected office, and did he do something about it? So, that check, that 2018 check, was when he was not doing anything except hanging around, and there was an explanation for it. So, if you get a check, then you can connect that to an action that he took,” Tarlov said.
“Oh, no, not to an action that he took! That was just an action that he took. Because before you said none of the money from overseas went into his checking account—” Watters began before Tarlov jumped in and said, “That’s not true!”
“So now it’s an action?” Watters demanded.
“You are yelling, and there’s no reason for it,” Tarlov complained.
“There’s a reason,” Watters continued. “I was promised a smoking gun, and if I deliver a smoking gun you have to admit that gun was smoking.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson, who was just elected, expressed a firm inclination on Sunday towards the possibility of GOP-controlled committees issuing subpoenas to first son Hunter Biden. This would be done in order to compel his testimony, while ongoing investigations into his and his father’s questionable international business activities persist.
During an interview conducted by Maria Bartiromo of Fox News, Johnson was queried over the issuance of subpoenas directed towards Hunter Biden.
“I’m looking at that. I think that desperate times call for desperate measures, and perhaps that is overdue,” he said.
Johnson, in reference to his professional background as a legal practitioner, stated that he is presently engaged in deliberations with legal representatives from the legislative branch. He also emphasized that a conclusive determination has yet to be reached about the subject matter at hand.
“We’re trying to move forward on some of this very aggressively,” Johnson told Bartiromo. “I think the American people are owed these answers. And I think our suspicions about all this and the evidence that we have gathered so far, as you know, are affirming what many of us feared may be the worst.”

Ending Sales Tax on Gold and Silver Is a Winning Issue The vast majority of U.S. states have now eliminated taxes on the purchase of precious metals.JP Cortez, December 21st, 2023
Twenty-five states considered 50 pieces of legislation this year aimed at ending taxes on the monetary metals, strengthening state finances by investing reserve funds in physical gold, establishing in-state depositories, and more.
With five bills signed into law in 2023, sound money reforms are gaining momentum across the United States.
In 2023, Mississippi became the 43rd state to do so, following the recent examples set by Ohio and Arkansas in 2021 and Tennessee in 2022.
That leaves just seven sales tax states: New Mexico, Hawaii, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Maine, New Jersey, and Vermont.
Of these seven states, five considered legislation in 2023 to end the tax.
New Jersey hopes to become the 44th sales-tax-exempt state. Assembly Bill 5294 passed unanimously through the State Assembly by a vote of 74-0, and a Senate committee unanimously passed the bill this week.
Meanwhile, Money Metals leaders collaborated with legislators in Wisconsin to introduce Assembly Bill 29 and Senate Bill 33. These measures have garnered support from 24 cosponsors representing both sides of the aisle, with a hearing expected soon.
The Alaska State House passed HB 3, the bill seeking the end to borough and city sales taxes on sound money. The measure will be considered by the Senate when the legislature reconvenes in early 2024.
In Kentucky, Rep. Steven Doan sponsored House Bill 213 as a single-issue bill, but Republican leaders insisted on incorporating the language that would end sales taxes on precious metals into a broader bill covering multiple topics.
Despite broad support in the House, Senate leaders specifically removed the sound money provision, thwarting the effort in 2023.
The most contentious sound money battles of 2023 unfolded in Augusta, Maine, when Sen. Eric Brakey introduced Legislative Draft 1051 to end sales taxes on gold and silver purchases.
The bill passed 17-15 out of the Maine Senate. On the House side, it received two favorable votes. However, Democrat majority leadership pressured its members, ultimately flipping enough votes to defeat the bill 71-72 during the final vote.
And finally, Vermont lawmakers introduced House Bill 295 to end the sales tax on sound money… as did lawmakers in Minnesota. But neither received a hearing.
The Next Step: Ending Capital Gains Tax on Precious MetalsWhile states can’t do anything about the federal capital gains tax on gold and silver sales (a confiscatory 28% tax rate!), a few states have sought to remove their own income taxes on sound money.
In 2023, Arkansas passed House Bill 1718, ending all remaining tax liability on transactions involving the metals, including the state capital gains tax. The popular measure passed overwhelmingly. That leaves 39 states that still tax capital gains on the sale of gold and silver.
A profit on sales of gold and silver may only be nominal in nature – i.e. the “gain” is usually a reflection of the Federal Reserve note’s loss in purchasing power.
Legislators in Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, South Carolina, and West Virginia all introduced such measures, with committees in Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri giving “Do Pass” recommendations.
Teens face Murder Charges:
On December 6th, three Columbus area teens allegedly laid in wait for a 53-year-old father to exit a local Kroger, whereupon they reportedly were "laughing and enjoying" themselves as they beat the man senseless. Now all three face murder charges after their victim died Monday from his wounds.
The victim has been identified as Donnie Smith. According to Smith's wife, Smith was "an amazing person" who was a father to a 15-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter.
According to the police report, Jamarion Fredrae Evans-Bennett, 19, Dionta Davon Hughes, 18, and an as-yet-unidentified 17-year-old male allegedly became involved in an altercation inside the Kroger with a number of Kroger patrons, whereupon they were asked to leave by security. The three then reportedly went outside to wait for Smith. It is unclear as yet why Smith in particular was targeted by the group, or what was the nature of the disagreement inside the store.
Witnesses said that the three appeared to be "laughing and enjoying themselves" as they punched and kicked Smith to death in the parking lot. The beating only stopped because a passerby with a firearm "ordered them to stop" beating on Smith, causing them to flee across the parking lot. Police were originally investigating the incident as a felonious assault, but when Smith succumbed to his injuries, they arrested and charged the trio with murder on Wednesday.
A GoFundMe has been launched by Smith’s wife to help defray the costs of funeral expenses.
Police and prosecutors have not yet stated whether they intend to charge the 17-year-old as an adult.

Joe Biden swears America is safer than ever. That couldn’t be further from the truth.
Because Biden’s declaration of war has backfired on him and America in a big way.
After the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, whatever stability the Middle Eastern nations and societies had would soon be thrown out the window.
Despite what the Leftists would have you believe, this isn’t just a case of Hamas attacking Israel and Israel needing to respond “proportionately.”
Of course, when they say that, they mean that they don’t want Hamas to face any consequences for their actions whatsoever, but that’s besides the point.
The real point is that Israel is now in a conflict with not only Hamas, but also Hamas-supporting nations in the region like Iran. And given the recent negotiations that the United States has had with Iran and given that Israel is a close ally of the U.S., a major decision had to be made about what to do about the destabilization of the Middle East.
The decision the Joe Biden administration made has been to effectively launch a second proxy war against Hamas and anyone else that may be involved in the war against Israel, which includes Iran.
Joe Biden was likely hoping this would be a quick affair, much like when he and his fellow Democrat lackeys said that the Ukraine-Russia conflict would be over in just a matter of months not years. We all know how wrong he was on that front.
Now it appears he was dead wrong about the conflict in the Middle East as well. Iran is digging in their heels and preparing for a long war against the U.S. and any other western allies.
The Houthis, who are backed by Iran, have promised to keep attacking ships in the Red Sea even though Western forces have warned them that they will oppose them.
The Houthis, who are based in Yemen, have attacked Western vessels multiple times since October 7 – including U.S. Navy ships – causing at least ten shipping companies to cease business in the Red Sea region. The Washington Post reports that the Houthis have stated that they have no intention of stopping their attacks, in spite of the Biden administration’s Monday commitment to cooperate with Western allies in order to counter the aggression of the Houthis.
An official from the Houthi party, Mohammed Abdulsalam, informed Reuters on Monday that the formation of a naval alliance would have no effect on the group’s stance on the Palestinian issue. “Our position in support of Palestine and the Gaza Strip will remain until the end of the siege, the entry of food and medicine, and our support for the oppressed Palestinian people will remain continuous.”

The Ohio Republican has just laid out three potential crimes that could land President Biden in hot water. If it’s proven that his family members profited off his political position, Jordan claims President Biden might be guilty of accepting bribes, abusing his authority as vice president, and obstructing investigations on behalf of his son Hunter Biden.
“We’re potentially looking at bribery; we’re looking at abuse of power; we’re looking at possible obstruction,” said Jordan. House Republicans are doing their best Sherlock Holmes impression, seeking evidence on whether the president was in cahoots with his son to dodge a congressional subpoena earlier this week.
“I think his press conference — there was one line that I think stood out to me, and I think most Americans, and that’s when he said, ‘My father was not financially involved in [my] business activities.’ And that qualifier, the word financial, I think is different than anything we’ve heard before.”
Jordan is itching to talk to some key players in this drama, including business partners and members of the Biden family. He wants to grill them like a Fourth of July barbecue to get to the bottom of these shenanigans.
Jordan has teamed up with House Oversight Chair James Comer (R-KY) to uncover a whole network of shell companies set up by Hunter Biden and his buddy Devon Archer to funnel money from overseas deals to other family members. They even slapped a subpoena on President Biden’s brother, James, over a suspicious $40,000 payment marked as a “loan repayment” from his wife to the president.

OTTAWA, Ontario (LifeSiteNews) — The Public Health Agency of Canada was forced to acknowledge that it has no evidence that the $54 million ArriveCan app program saved lives during the COVID-19 pandemic despite using that as an argument to justify the high cost, according to information obtained by Blacklock’s Reporter.
“The Agency cannot quantify the exact number of lives indirectly saved through ArriveCan,” the agency wrote to the House of Commons government operations committee. “Without the use of restrictive measures and without high levels of vaccination Canada could have experienced higher numbers of infections and hospitalizations.”
The ArriveCan app was mandated by the federal government under the leadership of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in 2020. All travelers entering Canada had to use the ArriveCAN app to submit their travel and contact information, as well as any COVID vaccination details, before crossing the border or boarding a flight.
In fall 2021, the government banned the vaccine free from traveling by air, rail or sea domestically and internationally. The requirement was suspended October 1, 2022.
The agency’s statement comes after Minh Doan, chief federal technology officer, testified November 14 that the ArriveCan app may have been expensive, but it saved Canadians’ lives.
“It cost $54 million and it was value for money,” Doan asserted. “As far as I am concerned, it saved lives.”
However, Conservatives pressed for a more complete answer along with data to support the claim.
“Would you provide something in writing to us quantifying that statement?” Conservative MP Kelly McCauley questioned. “We have heard repeatedly from people on the witness stand about how it has miraculously saved lives. Can you let us know how many?”
“Having studied public health, I would think that finding that evidence is going to be very difficult,” Liberal MP Marcus Powlowski, a medical doctor, responded.
The app has since become a controversial topic in Canadian politics, as numerous reports have surfaced revealing that the Trudeau government suppressed information regarding the program.
In October, the Trudeau government was exposed for hiding a Royal Canadian Mounted Police investigation into the app from auditors. An investigation of the ArriveCan app began last November after the House of Commons voted 173-149 for a full audit of the controversial app.
Similarly, in November, Doan was threatened with contempt for refusing to give clear answers to questions from MPs regarding his involvement with the much-maligned app.
The program, described by a Canadian border agent as “tyranny,” cost taxpayers $54 million, which MPs pointed out was a suspiciously high expense.
Top constitutional lawyers have said ArriveCAN violates an individual’s constitutional rights, adding that people’s civil liberties on paper have been rendered “meaningless effectively in the real world” because of COVID.

OTTAWA, Ontario (LifeSiteNews) — Canada’s Department of Health has paid social media influencers over $680,000 to voice support for federal programs, reportedly including the experimental COVID shot, since 2021.
According to information published December 14 by Blacklock’s Reporter, the Department of Health admitted that they hired X (formerly known as Twitter) “influencers” beginning in 2021 to publicly support federal programs on their large platforms.
“Expenditures relate to work by an agency including planning, material development, influencer outreach and liaison, updates, content monitoring, evaluation and management of payments to influencers,” the cabinet wrote in an Inquiry of Ministry.

While many of the accounts have since been deleted, one of the influencers, going by the handle “Chelazon Leroux,” admitted that he had received payment for promoting the COVID shot but claimed it did not amount to propaganda.
“Long story short,” Leroux, who works as a “drag queen,” posted on X. “I was paid by Health Canada to talk about my COVID experience and why I chose to take the vaccine, not to force anyone else.”
“This is no different than people getting paid to promote any other government program, education, healthcare, economics,” he claimed. “And you’d do it to for a bag.”
Health Canada’s plan to hire influencers was disclosed in a March 24, 2021 notice, which failed to outline the cost of the project. According to the program, influencers were expected to “build the department’s credibility” and must not “tarnish Health Canada’s or the Government of Canada’s reputation.”
“Digital influencers are defined as people who have built a reputation for their knowledge and expertise on a specific topic,” the notice said. “They make regular posts about that topic on their preferred social media channels and generate large followings of enthusiastic, engaged people who pay close attention to their views.”
Despite Health Canada’s attempts to justify the program, it was roundly blasted as propaganda by many Canadians.
“Health Canada has hired social media influencers and minor celebrities to tout the great work it’s doing on Canada’s response to the pandemic,” then-Senator Linda Frum said.
“These government-paid influencers are not required to reveal they are government-paid influencers because that, of course, would be very embarrassing,” said Senator Frum, adding that the program is a tax-funded attempt to “spread disinformation about Health Canada’s response to the pandemic.”
Similarly, many Canadians who just learned about the program thanks to the recent report took to X to voice their concern.
“The Govt of Canada paid big money to influencers to advance the governments narrative,” former intelligence officer and RCMP officer Tom Quiggin wrote.
“When @JustinTrudeau talks about disinformation – he is correct. But he is the problem,” he added. “(BTW, this is just one dept. No idea on how widespread this practice is in other depts).”
The Trudeau government, with the help of the Department of Health, heavily promoted the COVID jabs, which were rushed to market. It is still promoting the shots, this time the recently approved booster.
In 2021, Trudeau said Canadians “vehemently opposed to vaccination” do “not believe in science,” are “often misogynists, often racists,” and questioned whether Canada should continue to “tolerate these people.”
A recent study done by researchers at the Canada-based Correlation Research in the Public Interest found that 17 countries have found a “definite causal link” between peaks in all-cause mortality and the fast rollouts of the COVID shots and boosters.
In November, LifeSiteNews reported about an internal memo from the nation’s health department that shows that officials have refused to release data concerning internal audits related to the COVID crisis that indicate “critical weaknesses and gaps” in its response to the so-called pandemic.
Later the same month, Statistics Canada found that deaths from both COVID-19 and “unspecified causes” surged following the release of the so-called “safe and effective” vaccines.
