September 23, 2025 – Ottawa, Ontario – Canadian Institutes of Health Research

As we begin respiratory infectious diseases season, the Government of Canada is investing in critical research infrastructure to ensure that public health and immunization programs are as effective as they can be in protecting the health of Canadians and that Canada is ready for future pandemics and public health emergencies.


Today, the Honourable Marjorie Michel, Minister of Health, announced an investment of nearly $20 million through the CIHR Centre for Research on Pandemic Preparedness and Health Emergencies and partners to support seven research platforms that unite researchers from all across the country to maintain Canada’s pandemic readiness, improve surveillance systems, and support evidence-based decision-making.


These platforms will strengthen Canada’s capacity to detect, monitor, and respond to emerging infectious diseases, while addressing the social, behavioural, and health system challenges that arise during pandemics and other health emergencies. Broadly, the research teams will:

  • Sustain and expand national research infrastructure and networks to improve disease surveillance, diagnostics, and data sharing, ensuring faster, more coordinated responses to emerging threats like avian influenza.

  • Support inclusive, community-based research that reflects the needs of diverse populations, including high-risk cancer populations, children, racialized and Indigenous communities, and people in rural and remote areas.

  • Generate timely, evidence-based insights to inform public health decisions, improve vaccination strategies, and enhance public trust and adherence to prevention measures during health emergencies.

These investments support the Government of Canada’s ongoing efforts to strengthen pandemic preparedness and protect the health of Canadians and the international community.

Entrepreneurs put their money where their mouths are. Prime ministers speak with policies, but also with their appointments.


Naming Louise Arbour as the country’s next governor general, along with a series of other diplomatic postings this year, brings into sharper relief a picture of Canada that Mark Carney is trying to draw for the world.

It’s one meant to be consistent with his economic and foreign policies, as well as his punchy language on the world stage.


Looked at in strategic terms, and leaning on the ever-useful chess analogy, Arbour might serve as the viceregal queen piece (or the king, as she is King Charles’ representative).

The former Supreme Court judge, International Criminal Court chief prosecutor and United Nations human rights commissioner is laser-sharp and a mostly unimpeachable pick.


And her appointment gives a symbolic boost to the customs and institutions imperiled by U.S. President Donald Trump: the rule of law, the laws of war and the UN itself, which Trump has tried to kneecap with his Board of Peace.


Having a top francophone jurist as governor general will prove a wise investment should independence movements in Alberta and Quebec gain any real ground, or end up in the courts, as did the 1995 Quebec referendum.


The bishops of Carney’s chess pieces are the recently named diplomatic triumvirate in Europe, advising and amplifying Ottawa’s message in London, Paris and Brussels.

The United Kingdom high commissioner’s post is occupied by former Toronto Police chief Bill Blair, a defence and emergency preparedness minister under Justin Trudeau. Nathalie Drouin, Carney’s former national security adviser, is the new envoy to France. And Jonathan Wilkinson, a former clean technology executive who served as minister of environment and of energy and natural resources, was named last month as ambassador to the European Union.


They are no simple toast-makers with chauffeurs and special passports, as the diplomatic caricature often goes.


Their missions are complicated by the fact that Carney has closer and long-standing ties to Britain and Europe’s political class from his time as governor of the Bank of England. He backslaps and texts with France’s Emmanuel Macron and has known King Charles since he was just a prince.


But the posts and profiles of Blair, Drouin and Wilkinson fit together like jigsaw puzzle pieces to send a message about Carney’s hopes of a reinvigorated relationship with those across the Atlantic.


A former cop and national security adviser speak to the shared security risks and priorities of Canada and Europe, from Trump and trade to the state of Ukraine and the Strait of Hormuz.


Wilkinson, whose experience straddles energy production and environmental protection, is well-placed to promote Canada as an energy superpower with the climate on its conscience.

Despite quibbles about Canada’s climate credibility, that pitch is one that Europe, which relies on imports for more than half its energy needs, is willing to hear.

“We share a triple alignment of history, values and trust,” Carney said while attending a meeting of the European Political Community in Armenia, where he had meetings with Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine, Giorgia Meloni of Italy and Pedro Sanchez of Spain, among others.


Carney ended his remarks saying it was his “strong personal view” that when “the international order will be rebuilt … it will be rebuilt out of Europe.”

That is flattering for Brussels. But it could sound like fighting words in Washington, just as another crop of appointees — their focus firmly south of the Canada-U.S. border — are gearing up for renegotiations of the Canada-U.S.-Mexico trade deal.


But that hardly relegates Mark Wiseman, a well-connected executive recently appointed as Canada’s ambassador to the U.S., or Janice Charette, Carney’s new chief trade negotiator, to the status of sacrificial pawns on Canada’s shifting global chessboard.


Rather, they are more like rooks, moving in strict vertical and horizontal lines as they try to save the country’s economic fort from Trump’s tariffs.

“My instructions are very much about protecting the fundamentals of the agreement, not revising them,” Charette, a former clerk of the Privy Council Office and U.K. high commissioner, told the Future of Business summit last month. She added that Canadian efforts to increase trade to markets other than the U.S. was not an abandonment of the American relationship but, rather, a supplement.


But it’s a slog fighting for Canada behind enemy lines, Wiseman told the House of Commons foreign affairs committee on April 23, speaking of the defence and economic ties. “Do they wake up and think about us every day the way that we wake up and think about them every day? No,” he said. “That’s not the case, and we have to continually remind them. “We’re far from the instances when a plum posting was the reward for political loyalty, or the soft landing after a long career.


Carney’s diplomatic front line is emerging as a purpose-built team, executing a grand strategy.

Call it the prime minister’s gambit.

If you want to sum up the European immigration crisis in one question, this is how to do it

Sometimes, someone comes along and just casually reframes an entire bitter, long-running debate in just a handful of words.

Like this:


This is one of the things that European policymakers never stop to ask themselves when they import thousands upon thousands of male "refugees" into various developed European countries.


This exchange took place a few months ago in the northern England town of Crowborough. It's small — the population is around 21,000. Like many English towns of its size, it's quiet, quaint, and low-key; it's got some old traditions, some historic sites. It sounds like a nice, easy place to live.


But leaders decided to heck with all that: As The Guardian reported in April, the government is moving several hundred migrant men into nearby housing:

 

Hundreds of asylum seekers have been removed from government-funded hotels while others have been sent to live in army barracks, the Home Office has announced.

Eleven 'asylum hotels' in England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland have been closed, as first reported by the Guardian, and more will close 'in the coming weeks'. 

 

About 350 claimants have been moved to the Crowborough military camp in East Sussex, described by a spokesperson as 'basic accommodation'.

 

Ahead of the decision, residents of Crowborough turned out en masse to protest the migrant placement. If you know the modern English, you know it takes a lot to get them out into the streets and mad — and brother, were they out in the streets and mad.


As GB News reports, the decision to house the migrants in the nearby Crowborough barracks was apparently carried out in secret:

Nusrat Ghani, the Conservative MP for Sussex Weald, claimed neither she nor Tory councillors were informed of the decision to house hundreds of men at the Crowborough camp, accusing Wealden District Council's Green and Liberal Democrat coalition of conducting 'secret' talks behind the community's back.

 

How bad is it in Europe?

Well, a while ago this horrific animated map made the rounds on social media, and it captures the staggering scale of the problem quite adequately:

 


You can understand why residents are concerned about the "sexual needs" of hundreds or thousands (or millions) of grown migrant men, particularly when you consider the scale of the depraved rape gangs and sex trafficking operations that so many immigrant men have already carried out.

 


People are discovering the 2013 court transcript of the "Pakistani grooming gang" case in Britain and it's one of the most disturbing things I have ever read

 

The short version: Thousands of British girls have been raped by gangs of foreign Muslims who threaten to kill them unless they comply, and British police have gone so far to cover it up that they've actually arrested fathers who were in the process of trying to rescue their daughters.

 

And yet, when pressed as to how they planned to deal with this crisis, all of the leaders seem to have the same response as the one in the video above:

Q: 'How do you plan to meet the sexual needs of 600 men?'

A: 'I don't.'

The document outlines a phased deployment of bioelectric frequency therapy systems to civilian hospitals beginning Q4 2026. The devices are described as “multi-spectrum electromagnetic resonance platforms capable of cellular regeneration, inflammation neutralization, and autonomous tissue repair.”

 

They are calling them Regenerative Therapy Systems. The document never uses the word MedBed. But the specifications match exactly what has been described for years.

 

Phase 1: 3,200 hospitals in 50 states. Priority given to VA hospitals and trauma centers.

 

Phase 2: 12,000 outpatient clinics. Timeline: Q1 2027.
