SPIRITUAL:
Mom of 3 Puts Her Kids on ‘TV Fast’ for Months and Is Blown Away by the Results:
With a love for cultivating an “old-fashioned” life and returning to what truly matters, a mom of three encouraged her kids to adopt a “TV fast” for three months. The family was so blown away by the creative energy that emerged in the absence of the screen that they decided to continue—marking eight months of no TV at the end of July.
Homeschooling mom of three, blogger, and author Jill Winger, 38, grew up in Idaho. Today, she lives on a 67-acre family homestead in the southeast corner of Wyoming with her husband, Christian Winger, and their three kids: Mesa, 13, Bridger, 10, and Sage, 7.
“We have a little bit of everything,” Mrs. Winger told The Epoch Times. "We raised a big garden and we also have a greenhouse garden, then we do milk cows, laying hens for eggs, we raise meat, chickens, and beef cattle. We also have goats and some geese. We try to grow as much of our food as possible.
“We didn’t really ever watch a ton of TV, we just had Netflix and Hulu,” she said. “My kids would watch shows an hour and a half in the afternoons, then what we found was happening is, during the winter, because we have long winters in Wyoming, our family would kind of default to the TV in the evenings after supper.”

‘Let’s Experiment!’
It wasn’t all “bad programming,” Mrs. Winger said, but in December 2022, she began asking herself, “What other activities is the TV displacing?”

She posed the question to her husband and kids, and together, they made a decision: They would go on a TV fast.

“We thought, what if we just try cutting it out completely for a while?” Mrs. Winger said. “Three months, we decided, from December 1, 2022, to March 1, 2023, we would not watch any TV. We would turn off our subscriptions ... we just said, ‘Let’s experiment with what happens.’
“Shockingly, I expected more pushback; they were not super upset,” she said of her kids. “I think they knew that they were turning on the TV as just a default activity, kind of mindlessly, without really enjoying it. So when we told them our plan, they were kind of like, ‘OK, we’ll try it, then!’
“I think that our foundation that we’ve had with them since the beginning was a really big piece of that because they know we live life differently. Also, just having a really good conversation so they could see our thought process.”

Together, the family discussed what to do with the time freed up by quitting TV. One of the first ideas to emerge was reading books together. They made it fun by digging out old lanterns, brewing a pot of tea, and reading together by lantern light.
“Maybe that sounds silly to some people, but the kids thought it was the coolest thing ever,” Mrs. Winger said.
Another impulse that emerged was to learn new hobbies. Mr. Winger took up leather crafting; Mesa, Bridger, and Sage learned to braid leather. The three kids together taught themselves chess, started cooking more, and became more engaged in homesteading activities.
Mrs. Winger said: “It was shocking to me, the changes, even though we hadn’t been obsessed with TV before. ... They were engaged more in their hobbies and interests, and they were really digging deep. They just started to be more aware and involved in life.”

‘The Real World’
When the family reached the end of their TV fast on March 1, they sat down to discuss the experience and came to a surprising conclusion: They wanted to continue. Rather than reactivating their subscriptions, they decided to set aside special time once or twice a month to watch a movie as a family and preserve their newfound free time for hobbies and creative pursuits.
The family has iPads in the house for homeschooling and for access to YouTube tutorials, but the parents monitor what their kids are watching. Their oldest daughter has a flip phone to call or text when she’s out of the house. But none of the kids are on social media.
“I feel very competent as a parent in the experiences we’re providing them,” Mrs. Winger said.
The family also owns a restaurant and raises grass-fed beef for sale to the public.
“The kids are out in our community. They’re working in the restaurant, they’re working with the people on our farm, they’re out learning those real-life skills, and that, to me, is the most important.
“I don’t worry about their lack of ability to acclimate into our modern world, just because, I mean, we’re not completely disconnected from it,” she said. “But is mindless TV the real world? Or is that what someone else is creating and presenting to us to consume? ... The real world is out your front door, in the soil, with the animals in nature, relating to people in your actual community. And to me, technology is a nice little addition to that, but it’s not the entirety.”

Jill Winger says cutting out TV has helped her kids develop a love for reading and has even improved their concentration and focus. Courtesy of Jill Winger
Mrs. Winger runs a website, podcast, and Instagram page to share her thoughts on raising “old-fashioned kids in a high-tech world,” and she said she believes hers was one of the first homesteading blogs when it started in 2010. She has received her fair share of criticism for her family’s TV fast but is also supported by a like-minded community.
Addressing the critics, she said: “I think that it maybe triggered some feelings in people because they were perhaps feeling insecure about their own choices, with themselves, with their children. Not all TV is bad, but I think my husband and I kind of hold ourselves to a higher standard.”
Capable, Creative Kids
Mrs. Winger moved to Wyoming at 18 to pursue a career in the equine industry and met Christian, who lived in the area. They bought their first home, a “fixer-upper farmhouse,” in 2008, and turned it into the homestead of their dreams, where they live with their kids today.

Mrs. Winger said that the lifestyle she provides for her kids is different from the “very conventional” one she grew up in and that she believes that her kids have benefitted from her and her husband’s shared philosophy.
“My oldest is definitely an artist,” she said. “My middle child, he is very much a builder. He loves taking things apart; he wants to know how things work. Then my youngest, she’s kind of the wild child. She is a free spirit.
“I’m really big on encouraging curiosity in my children. I’m really big on inspiring independence. I think that our culture sometimes, because we want to keep our kids so safe and we want them to be successful, we end up covering and helicoptering them, and we actually end up creating negative effects when we really have the best of intentions. ... we need to fail because that’s where our best lessons are. We can’t be afraid of that.”

Mrs. Winger said she hopes that by sharing her family’s journey, she can inspire others to believe that kids are more capable and creative than we think. She insists that it’s not crucial to live on a homestead; even in the city, there are free resources, such as outdoor play, board games, and local libraries.
“That’s really where the value comes in, instead of sitting in front of a screen just zoning out,” she said. “I’ve been there; you get done with everything you have to do as an adult during the day, and you’re tired. ... [but] it doesn’t always have to be a ton of energy from you, as the parents; I think sometimes the best thing we can do is to give our kids a little bit of an idea, and then let them go through the rest.”
A TV “fast,” by definition, is finite. “It could be a week, it could be a month ... pick your time,” Mrs. Winger said. “Stick with it, be committed to it, even if you want to change your mind later. Then I think it’s really important to have a conversation with the whole family, to get everybody on board and help them understand why you’re doing this.”

The Wingers don’t have an end date for their TV fast. For now, they feel closer than ever, and Mrs. Winger is enjoying watching her kids grow and thrive.
“I see glimpses of the adults that they will become, what strengths they will have, and what curiosities they will have,” she said. “I see this lack of TV giving more time for them to ... figure out, ‘Who am I, and what am I here for? What is my purpose? What are my passions?’ That’s my goal, to just give them more time and space to explore that, and I think eliminating the TV from our house is a really big step.”

MALCOLM:
CBC's foreign worker scandal
Juno News co-founder Candice Malcolm breaks down the scandal of the taxpayer-funded CBC - the CANADIAN Broadcasting Corporation - hiring foreign workers over Canadians
Just when we thought the state broadcaster couldn’t stoop any lower, Juno News uncovered this unbelievable report about the CBC hiring Temporary Foreign Workers.
According to documents obtained from the Department of Employment and Social Development Canada, CBC has filed and been approved for at least 20 Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIA) for high skilled jobs in Ontario.
This includes positions in journalism, tech and business.
A LMIA is a central component in the scam that is the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP).
When an employer wants to hire a foreigner over a Canadian, they must first prove that no Canadian has the skills needed to fill the role.
So they put out fake job postings – usually buried on their website and often including obscure skills that almost no one possesses.
It’s a box-ticking exercise, and it’s done for one simple reason: to prioritize a foreigner worker over a Canadian, usually to save money. This almost always results in wages getting driven down, and Canadians losing out on jobs in our own country.
It’s one thing for a private company to do business this way. It’s sad that Tim Hortons chooses to hire foreigners over young Canadians, and as it’s led to staggering youth unemployment – 14.6%!
But at the end of the day, private companies will take advantage of whatever government-created loophole they can to make more money.
But the CANADIAN Broadcasting Corporation has absolutely no excuse for hiring foreigners over Canadians. For goodness sakes, their purpose is to promote a distinct culture and identity for Canadians!
Remember, the CBC is always lecturing us how they are indispensable for Canada, how Canada would somehow cease to exist if the CBC ever disappeared.
Here is the list of positions CBC claimed were so technical and specific that NO CANADIANS could fill:
· Journalism jobs including: broadcasters, announcers, and broadcast technicians
· Tech jobs including: computer programmers, network technicians, web designers & developers
· Business jobs, including: marketing, business management & consulting
In other words, the exact positions that our CANADIAN universities pump out tens of thousands of grads each and every year.
But according to government data, the CBC needed to import temporary foreign workers to do these jobs.
To add insult to injury, the CBC noted some of these are “high wage” positions.
And it gets worse, because it’s the CBC so there’s always something worse.
During this same period, the CBC CUT over 600 jobs and killed another 200 positions in their ranks.
And, of course, during the same time period, top brass gave themselves millions in bonuses.
The arrogance of it all.
And more arrogance. When CBC was asked about their hiring foreign workers, here is what CBC responded with:
“Regarding your question, there’s nothing I’m aware of but perhaps if you could give me more specific details I’d be able to give you a more informed answer.” Chuck Thompson, Head of Public Affairs, CBC
And after being provided with “more specific details,” do you think CBC has responded to try and justify hiring foreigners over Canadians? No, of course not.
Let’s recap, shall we:
· The CBC is an unabashed propaganda machine pushing a toxic far-left ideology
· It operates as an extension of the Liberal Party of Canada, openly interfering in our elections and undermining the democratic process
· On top of all of that, the CBC is a horribly managed business that undercuts Canadian wages by hiring cheap foreigners through an exploitative program that is nothing more than a scam
· And through all this, the arrogant CBC acts like they don’t answer to Canadians, and shrug off questions and criticism - because they know the Liberals will protect their propaganda news outlet
This story highlights two major programs with our government: the propaganda machine that is the CBC and our scammy immigration system.
Here’s a simple solution:
DEFUND the CBC
END the Temporary Foreign Worker Program
Thank you and God Bless.

TRUMP:
GEORGE SOROS RAIDED
– PAYS BIG PRICE
As part of an investigation into foreign exchange violations involving the Open Society Foundations (OSF), which was founded by American billionaire George Soros, and its impact investment arm, the Soros Economic Development Fund (SEDF), India’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) searched eight locations in Bengaluru on Tuesday.
Sources told Indian media the searches were “carried out under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) and involve the OSF along with various international human rights organizations,” The Economic Times reported.
The main focus of the investigation is the claim that OSF obtained foreign direct investment (FDI) and that certain recipients embezzled the money against FEMA regulations.
“Our teams carried out raids at eight locations on Tuesday in Bengaluru to investigate contraventions in foreign direct investment rules by SEDF and OSF in investments in various entities/individuals in India and subsequent utilization of those funds,” said one unnamed officer, the Hindustan Times added.
The sources claim that OSF, which is sponsored by Soros, transferred about $3 billion to over a dozen organizations across India.
A “preliminary investigation has revealed that OSF was put under the prior reference category by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in 2016, thereby restricting it from giving unregulated donations to NGOs in India,” the unnamed officer continued.
“However, in order to bypass this restriction, OSF set up subsidiaries in India and brought in funds in the form of FDI and consultancy fees, and these funds have been used to fund activities of the NGOs which is a FEMA contravention”, the officer added.
Although OSF, which was created by Soros, started working in India, the largest democracy in the world, in 1999, according to The Times, the organization does not actually have any offices there.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which was then under Biden’s authority, acted quickly in November to approve a deal that would have given Democrat megadonor Soros a significant stake in more than 200 radio stations.
The decision has spurred a probe by the House Oversight Committee, which is worried about possible “politicization” and its effect on the 2024 presidential race, Fox News said at the time.
In addition to other GOP members of Congress who saw the action as obviously politicized, a Republican commissioner voiced his disapproval of the FCC’s decision to approve Soros’ purchase of more than 200 Audacy radio stations.
Fox pointed out that just weeks before the presidential election, the FCC “issued an order to approve Soros’ purchase of more than 200 radio stations in 40 markets,” giving him access to as many as 165 million Americans.
Rep. Nick Langworthy (R-N.Y.) and House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) have charged that the FCC has accelerated its assessment of broadcast licenses by circumventing established protocols.
There are more than 200 radio stations owned by Audacy Inc. According to Fox, Soros attempted to restructure the business under Chapter 11 in order to purchase $415 million in debt.
During a meeting with Republican lawmakers in late February, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr gave an update on the agency’s probe into Soros and his influence on local radio stations. Carr attended the annual closed-door luncheon of 175 House Republicans who make up the Republican Study Committee.
Carr was scheduled to brief lawmakers on the speedy acquisition of the radio stations, a source told Fox News. According to the report, Carr also talked about more general tactics to combat left-wing media.
The GOP congressional investigation into the purchase concentrated on Soros Fund Management’s involvement in the transaction. Due to the investment firm’s significant foreign ownership stake, there are worries that the stations’ programming may provide foreign governments disproportionate influence over the American people.
“The FCC is not following its normal process for reviewing a transaction,” Carr told lawmakers last fall regarding the sale.
“We have established over a number of years one way in which you can get approval from the FCC when you have an excess of 25 percent foreign ownership, which this transaction does,” Carr added. “It seems to me that the FCC is poised to create, for the first time, an entirely new shortcut.”
