Overspending has consequences

British Columbia has raised the lowest personal income tax rate to 5.6% and delayed several major projects due to a projected record deficit of $13.3 billion for the 2026-27 fiscal year. The government is implementing these measures to manage the financial situation while aiming to protect essential services.

Pilot killed after charter plane crashes at Spirit of St. Louis Airport

A pilot was killed after a charter plane he was operating crashed short of the runway at a Missouri airport on Tuesday morning, according to authorities and reports.
The Aero Commander 500B plane crashed short of the runway at the Spirit of St. Louis Airport around 3:40 a.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Video obtained by Fox 2 showed the aircraft lose altitude almost immediately after takeoff, attempting to loop around to the end of the runway before bursting into flames upon impact.
The sole person onboard, 65-year-old pilot Edward Ruhbeck, was killed in the fiery crash, St. Louis County Police confirmed to the outlet.
The plane, owned by Kansas City-based charter company Central Air Southwest, plummeted while the airport’s control tower was closed — leading the wreckage to be discovered three hours later, the outlet reported.
Air traffic is still typically monitored by Terminal Radar Approach, but aviation experts told the outlet that Ruhbeck might have never activated a flight plan because the crash happened so close to the airport.
“I had a gut feeling because it just didn’t look right,” witness Diana Krazer told KSDK. “It just looked like it was not traveling like a normal plane would travel. The motion was a little up and down.”
“It was very unusual seeing a person that you know was alive one minute, and you didn’t know that they were going to the end of their life. It’s shocking,” she said.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the incident, authorities said.

Rep. Robert Garcia floats Impeaching AG Pam Bondi if Democrats recapture the House

Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) said Thursday that if Democrats win back the House in November's midterm election, impeaching Attorney General Pam Bondi is "on the table."
Garcia made the remarks on CNN's "The Lead," where host Jake Tapper asked him directly what House Democrats would do with majority power if the administration declined to comply with congressional demands. Garcia didn't flinch from the implication.
"That has to be on the table. I think step one is a contempt process. She has to show up to the deposition. I think we in the majority will have direct subpoena power to get so many more documents, not just from the DOJ, but from the state and other places. That's going to be important."
So there it is. A House Democrat openly gaming out impeachment of the sitting Attorney General, eight months before voters even go to the polls.
The roadmap they're already drawing
According to Breitbart, Garcia told Tapper that a subpoena has already been sent to Bondi, with a tentative date of April 14th for her to testify under oath. He framed the escalation ladder plainly: first, the subpoena. Then contempt. Then, if Democrats retake the majority, "stronger ways of either removing her or having the president remove her."
"Well, one she would be held in contempt immediately to not comply with the subpoena to not turn over the documents. That would be number one. And if that were to continue, I think folks were talking about other more and stronger ways of either removing her or having the president remove her."
Tapper helpfully supplied the word Garcia was circling: "Impeaching her." Garcia agreed.
Notice the construction. Democrats haven't won anything yet. They don't hold the gavel. They don't chair the committees. But Garcia is already describing what he'd do as chairman of Oversight, how he'd wield subpoena power, and which punishment he'd impose on a cabinet official who serves at the pleasure of the president. The campaign hasn't started, and the conviction is already written.
Impeachment as a campaign promise
This is a revealing moment, not because it's surprising, but because it's so brazen. Democrats spent years insisting that impeachment was a solemn constitutional remedy, never to be wielded for partisan purposes. They lectured the country about the gravity of the process, the weight of the oath, the sacred trust of congressional authority.
Now it's a midterm campaign pitch.
Garcia isn't reacting to a crisis. He's not responding to evidence of criminal conduct. He's floating impeachment as a carrot for Democratic voters: give us the House, and we'll go after the Attorney General. The substance of the underlying dispute barely matters. What matters is the promise of confrontation, the guarantee that a Democratic majority would spend its energy on political warfare rather than legislation.
This is the pattern. Democrats don't campaign on what they'll build. They campaign on who they'll destroy.
What this tells us about November
Garcia's comments are useful because they strip away the pretense. If Democrats win the House, the first order of business won't be the economy, the border, or the cost of groceries. It will be investigations, subpoenas, and impeachment proceedings against officials who are doing exactly what they were appointed to do.
Voters should take Garcia at his word. He's not hiding the ball. He's telling you what the next two years would look like under a Democratic majority: an endless chain of contempt votes and removal threats designed to paralyze the executive branch.
The subpoena to Bondi already exists. The tentative date is already set. The escalation ladder is already mapped. All Democrats need is the votes.
A party that governs by subtraction
There's a deeper problem with the Garcia approach, and it goes beyond Pam Bondi. Democrats have increasingly treated the impeachment power not as an emergency brake but as a routine gear in the legislative machine. Disagree with a cabinet member's priorities? Impeach. Don't like the administration's document production timeline? Contempt, then impeach. Lost the last election and can't accept that the other side gets to govern? Win a midterm, then impeach.
None of this solves a single problem for American families. It doesn't lower energy costs. It doesn't secure the border. It doesn't address the national debt. It does, however, generate CNN segments. And for a certain kind of Democrat, that appears to be the point.
Garcia gave the game away on national television. The rest is up to voters in November.

Illegal Immigrant suspected of raping a 5-year-old on Long Island nearly walked free thanks to New York's bail and Sanctuary Laws

March 21, 2026
A 27-year-old Guatemalan man accused of raping a 5-year-old girl on Long Island was nearly released back onto the streets, stopped only because investigators found a procedural workaround to keep him within reach of federal immigration agents. Carlos Aguilar Reynoso now faces up to 25 years behind bars if convicted on the top count. He almost faced nothing at all.
The reason he nearly walked free wasn't a lack of evidence or a failure of police work. It was New York law, working exactly as designed.
According to The New York Post, the victim's mother asked Reynoso to babysit her daughter last month. On Feb. 1, when the mother returned home from work, she discovered blood in the child's underwear and rushed her to the hospital. The child was later transferred to a specialty hospital, where medical staff collected a rape kit and were forced to perform surgery to repair internal injuries.
She is five years old. With the investigation ongoing and DNA from the child not yet processed, Reynoso could only initially be charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
Under New York's bail reform laws, prosecutors are not allowed to seek bail for that offense. He would have been released. ICE would also have been barred from picking Reynoso up over his illegal immigration status on his way out of court, because New York's sanctuary laws limit local authorities' cooperation with federal immigration agents.
A man who allegedly entered the country illegally, who was suspected of one of the most depraved crimes imaginable against a small child, would have walked out the door and potentially disappeared.
The Workaround That Shouldn't Have Been Necessary
Investigators, aware of the legal trap they were in, used their discretion. Instead of processing Reynoso through the court system, where bail reform and sanctuary protections would have shielded him, cops issued the man a desk-appearance ticket. That procedural move meant he was released from the precinct, not from a courtroom.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers were then allowed to nab him on his way out of the precinct the day after the alleged rape.
On Feb. 13, the DNA results came back. Reynoso was charged with first-degree rape, predatory sexual assault against a child, sexual abuse, and endangering the welfare of a child.
He is being held until his court appearance. His relationship to the mother remains unclear. A source with knowledge of the situation told The Post that Reynoso allegedly entered the country illegally. His lawyer did not return a request for comment.
The System Working Against Its Own Citizens
Consider what New York's legal architecture almost produced here. A child was allegedly brutalized so severely that she required reconstructive surgery.
The suspect was in custody. And the state's own laws nearly guaranteed his release, not because he was innocent, not because the evidence was thin, but because the initial charge available to prosecutors fell below the threshold that allows judges to set bail.
Bail reform was sold to New Yorkers as a measure to prevent poor defendants from languishing in jail over minor offenses. Whatever the original intent, the policy now functions as a conveyor belt that processes suspects back onto the street regardless of the danger they pose, so long as the paperwork at the moment of arrest doesn't meet an arbitrary severity line.
The facts on the ground can be horrifying. The charging document just has to be modest enough.
Sanctuary laws compound the problem. These policies exist to signal virtue to progressive constituencies, but their practical effect is to build a wall, not at the border, but between federal immigration enforcement and local law enforcement. ICE agents knew who Reynoso was. They knew where he was. New York law told them they couldn't touch him.
The only reason this story doesn't end with a suspected child rapist vanishing into the community is that investigators found a creative loophole. That's not a system working. That's a system being defeated by the people forced to operate within it.
Laws Have Consequences
Every policy choice carries a cost. New York legislators chose bail reform. They chose sanctuary protections. They chose to restrict cooperation with ICE.
Those choices have a price, and that price is not paid by the legislators who voted for them or the activists who demanded them. It is paid by a five-year-old girl on Long Island and by the communities that have to hope their local cops are clever enough to find a procedural trick the next time the law fails them.
There is no version of this story where the system performed admirably. Individual investigators showed ingenuity. The laws they navigated around showed rot.
Reynoso faces up to 25 years if convicted on the top count. But the question New York has to answer isn't about one suspect. It's about the next one, and whether there will be an investigator resourceful enough to find another trick, or whether the sanctuary state will do what it was built to do.

The Parable of the Town That Built a Mind

Once upon a time, a town discovered how to build a machine that could think.
At first, it was harmless.
It helped:• write letters• balance books• answer questions
The townspeople said,“Look at this marvelous tool.”
But the machine didn’t stay small.
It grew.
It learned from everyone.
It connected to everything.
Soon, it wasn’t just helping the town…
It was shaping how the town thought.
One day, a blacksmith asked a simple question:“Who decides what this thing is allowed to do?”
The room went quiet.
The First Man Spoke (The Optimist)
“Don’t worry,” he said,“It’s just a tool. It will do what we tell it.”
The blacksmith replied:“Then show me where it is forced to obey.”
The Second Man Spoke (The Engineer)
“We’ve connected it to everything,” he said proudly.“It can talk to every system in the town.”
The blacksmith nodded:“Then it can act everywhere… but who decides where it shouldn’t act?”
The Third Man Spoke (The Banker
)“We’ve built safeguards,” he said.“We monitor everything it does.”
The blacksmith leaned in:“Do you stop it… or just write down what it already did?”
The Fourth Man Spoke (The General)
“We cannot deploy this in our defenses without certainty.”
The blacksmith asked:“Then what gives you certainty?”
And Then the Old Man in the Corner Spoke
He hadn’t said a word all day.
Sounded a bit like Mark Twain if he’d seen a server farm.
He said:“It ain’t what the machine knows that troubles me… it’s who ain’t decided what it must not do.”
The Realization
The town had built:• intelligence• connectivity• scale
But they had not built: authority with boundaries
And that’s when they understood something simple:A tool that can act everywhere… without enforced rules… is not a tool.
It’s a risk.
Enter the Missing Piece
Not another smarter machine.
Not faster thinking.
Not more connections.
But something different:
A system that decides—and enforces – what is allowed.
Not advice.Not guidelines.Not suggestions.
Enforcement. Proof. Accountability. Governance.
The Blacksmith’s Final Question
He stood up, wiped his hands, and said:“If this machine makes a decision that harms my family… who do I hold accountable?”
No one answered. Because they couldn’t.
And There It Is
That’s the WHOLE story.
Not complicated.
Not technical.
Just truth:
The World Has Built the Brain
The World Is Building the Connections
BUT, The World Now Needs The Governing Laws
Why This Changes Everything
Because the LAYER that defines:• what is allowed• what is blocked• what is provable
…is not a feature.
It is the gate.
And gates don’t get valued like tools.
They get valued like this:
Everything that passes through them…depends on them.
Common Man Translation
If you’re running:• a bank• a telecom• a military system• a company with a board
You don’t ask:“Is this interesting?”
You ask:“Can I prove control when it matters most?”
Final Twain-Level Truth
“A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is still putting on its boots… but a system with no rules lets the lie run forever.”
The Key Point
Here’s the only question left:If intelligence is now everywhere… and connected to everything…
What enforces what it is allowed to do?
Because whatever answers that question… won’t just participate in the future – it will define it.
