CANADIAN:

The Statute of Westminster 1931 granted full legal autonomy to the Dominions of the British Empire, including Canada, allowing them to govern themselves without needing approval from the British Parliament. However, Canada chose not to exercise its full autonomy immediately due to concerns about constitutional amendments and the division of powers between federal and provincial governments.

The Statute of Westminster is a British law that was passed on 11 December 1931. It was Canada’s all-but-final achievement of independence from Britain. It enacted recommendations from the Balfour Report of 1926, which had declared that Britain and its Dominions were constitutionally “equal in status.” The Statute of Westminster gave Canada and the other Commonwealth Dominions legislative equality with Britain. They now had full legal freedom except in areas of their choosing. The Statute also clarified the powers of Canada’s Parliament and those of the other Dominions. Desire for Autonomy

Before 1931, the British government had certain ill-defined powers over legislation passed by the Commonwealth Dominions (Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the Irish Free State, and Newfoundland). It also held overriding authority over those legislatures.


Things began to change after the First World War. The sacrifices of Canada and other Dominions on European battlefields had stirred feelings of nationhood and desires for greater autonomy.


Canada began to assert its independence in foreign policy in the early 1920s. In 1922, Prime Minister  William Lyon Mackenzie King refused to help British occupation forces in Turkey without first getting the approval of Parliament. (See Chanak Affair.) In 1923, Canada signed a fisheries treaty with the United States without British involvement. (See Halibut Treaty.) In 1926, Canada established an embassy in Washington, DC. Vincent Massey was named its first Canadian minister (ambassador). This made him Canada’s first ever diplomatic envoy posted to a foreign capital. (See also Diplomatic and Consular Representations.)

Imperial Conferences

The Imperial Conference of 1926 was a more formal step. It gave legal substance to the Balfour Report from earlier that year. The report had declared that Britain and its Dominions were constitutionally “equal in status.” The work of changing the Commonwealth’s complex legal system continued at the 1929 Conference on the Operation of Dominion Legislation and the Imperial Conference of 1930. Gradual Change

On 11 December 1931, the Statute of Westminster was passed by the British Parliament. This was done at the request and with the consent of the Dominions. This further clarified and cemented the Dominions’ legislative independence.


Yet some limits remained. Canada’s federal and provincial governments could not agree on how they would make future changes to the British North America Act (now called the Constitution Act, 1867). As a result, the British parliament was asked to retain the power to amend Canada’s Constitution until Canadians could come up with their own way of doing so. The power to amend the Constitution remained with the British Parliament until passage of the Constitution Act, 1982. (See Patriation of the Constitution.)

Other parts of the Statute gave the Dominion legislatures the power to enact laws even if they violated colonial policy. This allowed Canada to apply legislation outside the country. For example, it could establish shipping laws for Canadian vessels at sea, or apply criminal law to Canadian armed forces serving abroad. The Statute also affirmed (at least according to the provinces) that provincial jurisdiction could not be unilaterally altered by the federal government. Canada did not immediately adopt all its new powers under the Statute of Westminster. For example, the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, a British body, remained the final court of appeal for Canadians until 1949. That power was then shifted to the Supreme Court of Canada.

Trump blames Biden’s border policies for potential Iranian “sleeper cells” in US, says administration has “eyes on” suspects

President Donald Trump said Wednesday his administration has “eyes on” suspicious people who may be Iranian “sleeper cells” that crossed the U.S.-Mexico border during the Biden administration, telling Fox News’ Peter Doocy “we know where most of them are. We’ve got our eye on all of them, I think” after being briefed on the threat.


  • ·        Why it matters: The comments came after the federal government sent an alert to law enforcement offices nationwide indicating an encrypted message appeared to originate in Iran shortly after Operation Epic Fury’s launch and may have been designed to activate “sleeper cells” already in the United States and other parts of the world. When pressed on whether there were “dozens” of potential sleeper cells, Trump blamed “the open border policies of ‘sleepy’ Joe Biden. One of the worst…the worst president in the history of our country.”

  • ·        What Trump said: While acknowledging the sleeper cell threat, Trump pivoted to praising his administration’s military action, saying “the war itself is being prosecuted at a level that nobody’s seen before. It’s pretty — it’s pretty amazing to watch.” Trump has repeatedly touted Operation Epic Fury’s accomplishments in its first ten days alongside the Israeli Defense Forces, telling Republican members at a recent conference “no other president could do some of the sh*t I’m doing.”

 

 

GLOBAL:

Oil prices spike above $100 after Iran attacks six tankers in Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz

Oil prices briefly spiked above $100 per barrel Thursday after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attacked six tankers in the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz, with the two most recent attacks by explosive-laden boats hitting the Safesea Vishnu and Zefyros in Iraqi waters, killing at least one crew member and setting vessels ablaze. Brent crude futures jumped past $100 before falling back to around $96.50 per barrel as of 7 a.m. ET.

 

  • ·        Why it matters: The IRGC warned that any vessel attempting to traverse the Strait of Hormuz—through which an estimated one-fifth of the world’s oil passes—is subject to attack, with a spokesperson saying “expect oil at $200 per barrel. The price of oil depends on regional security, and you are the main source of insecurity in the region.” The attacks came hours after President Trump ordered the release of 172 million barrels from the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve to combat gas prices that have surged an average of 60 cents per gallon since US-Israel joint attacks on Iran began Feb. 28.

  • ·        The casualties: The Thai-flagged Mayuree Naree was struck by “two projectiles of unknown origin” causing a fire and damaging the engine room, with “three crew members reported missing and believed to be trapped in the engine room” while the remaining 20 were safely evacuated to Oman. The Japan-flagged ONE Majesty and Marshall Islands-flagged Star Gwyneth also sustained damage from unknown projectiles, though all crew members on those vessels are safe. The IRGC released video of the burning Safesea Vishnu with a man shouting “Allah is the greatest! The destruction of an American tanker in the northern district of the Persian Gulf! I obey you Khamenei!”



CNN’s Abby Phillip issues on-air correction after falsely claiming ISIS-inspired NYC bomb attack targeted Mayor Mamdani

CNN host Abby Phillip issued an on-air correction Wednesday night after falsely claiming Saturday’s ISIS-inspired terror attack was “directed at” or “against” New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, saying “I incorrectly said that the bombs that were thrown by ISIS-inspired suspects in New York over the weekend were directed at Mayor Mamdani. They were not. I failed to catch and correct that mistake in real time and I take full responsibility for that.”


  • ·        Why it matters: During Phillip’s Tuesday program, CNN political commentator Ana Navarro repeated the falsehood before Republican panelist Joe Borelli corrected her, saying “to be clear, the attack wasn’t on Mayor Mamdani. It was attacking protesters, people protesting Mamdani. To frame it as an anti-Muslim attack would actually completely reverse what happened. Someone who shouted ‘Allah Akbar’ threw a bomb that didn’t go off at the protesters.” CNN senior reporter Edward-Isaac Dovere also falsely claimed Mamdani was a “target of political violence” before deleting the post and issuing a correction.

  • ·        The botched coverage: CNN’s errors began Tuesday when it oddly portrayed terror suspects Emir Balat, 18, and Ibrahim Kayumi, 19, as teenagers who “could’ve been” enjoying “abnormally warm weather” before their “lives would drastically change” when arrested for throwing homemade bombs. The network deleted the post, saying it “failed to reflect the gravity of the incident thereby breaching the editorial standards we require for all our reporting.” Both U.S. citizen suspects were charged with material support to ISIS and use of a weapon of mass destruction after allegedly tossing explosive devices toward law enforcement and anti-Muslim demonstrators outside Gracie Mansion.


Media Propaganda

Let's talk about the missile that hit the school in Iran, because it's a masterclass in how media propaganda works


 

You should always seek the truth.

Unfortunately, the media has torched so much of its credibility in trying to destroy Trump that I have no idea if NBC News or The New York Times is telling the truth.

I want to present this as objectively as possible, but first, let me note that the framing of the story relies a lot on the typical media formula:

  • ·        "Verified by NBC News" = Trust me, bro.

  • ·        "Adding evidence, experts say, that an American missile likely hit..." = We have no actual proof.

  • ·        "...hit a compound once home to a military base" = This is a buried lede, please don't pay attention to it.

  • ·        "Weapons expert Jeffrey Lewis" = Here's a left-leaning DC thinktank nerd to make our scant evidence seem more concrete than it is.

  • ·        "4 other weapons experts, who agree" = Trust me bro, Part Dos.

  • ·        "NBC News spoke on the phone with a father who said his 8-year-old daughter, Zahra, was killed..." = Let's end with a sad story of a random Iranian man so the audience really hates Trump.


Multiple things can be true - all at the same time, even.

This is why it's important to be skeptical when you first hear a story, even from reputable sources like Not the Bee. I don't know everything. You don't know everything. NBC News certainly doesn't know everything.


The media and the Democrats (but I repeat myself) have a very specific Trump-deranged goal in mind when it comes to reporting the news, as they have consistently demonstrated for an entire decade.


This brings us back to the idea that multiple things can be true.

The missile that hit this Iranian school very well could be a Tomahawk and very well could have been launched by U.S. forces.


As the New York Post reports:

A US military investigation has found that the strike was the result of a targeting mistake by the US, based on outdated data provided by the Defense Intelligence Agency…

(You will notice I am starting this analysis with the assumption that the media is accurate, lest I be accused of trying to protect the Trump admin.)

But it is also true that Iran has tried to copy our cruise missiles, because everyone is trying to copy U.S. tech. "Weapons expert" Jeffrey Lewis says the missile in the blurry video is obviously a Tomahawk because it is, quote, "long, cylindrical; it has a set of wings."



It is also true - and this is very important context - that the school that was hit was on or adjacent to the grounds of an Iranian military base. The statement about outdated DIA intel supports this.


Despite this, it is true that Trump's claim that other nations use Tomahawks was a bit nonsensical. A few allies like the UK and Japan have Tomahawks, but none of them were involved in this military operation (Israel does not have Tomahawks).


It could be that Trump is operating on his limited knowledge of military munitions and infrastructure and had no intention to deflect or lie regarding the matter. Consider that in 2017 he claimed the F-35 is essentially invisible even if you are right next to it, and that the 2A community has routinely groaned at his understanding of "assault" rifles, suppressors, and bump stocks.


(In other words, it is true that NBC News would not call Trump to serve as one of its anonymous weapons experts.)

An investigation is underway and he, despite being commander-in-chief, does not know all things.

I don't know enough about it. It's something I was told was under investigation.

Bouncing back to the other side of the debate, however, it is true - and has been true for a decade - that the media wants to spin what could be Trump's genuine reply into nefarious intent.


Consider:

Does that read like an objective headline, or a narrative push?

It is true that "weapons experts" like Jeffrey Lewis have insight into munitions used in war. But Jeffrey Lewis is a nuclear-weapons nerd focused on East Asia who works for the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies in Monterey, California. His expertise on munitions employed in kinetic barrages on Middle Eastern targets is a bit fuzzy.


It is also true that in modern-day America, institutions that are not expressly conservative (like the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies) are liberal ... and become more liberal over time.

As one X user noted in an argument with Grok:


Above all of this is the truth that, reportedly, a school was hit and lives were lost.

Of course, we can't know if Iran is telling the truth about the details, because this is Iran. It, like Hamas or Hezbollah or any other number of Islamist entities, routinely lies in order to weaponize Western empathy for its cause.


Despite the fact that Hamas routinely lied about Israel's operations, scores of "Queers for Palestine" spent years rioting on college campuses across America. This is because Islamists have allied with liberal Marxists in the media to use empathy as a tool to control PR, which puts pressure on their enemies to give them breathing room.

The Islamist strategy of using crisis actors is so prevalent that it has become a meme in recent years:


Part of the reason many Islamic terror groups operate this way is due to the concept of "taqiyya," or the belief that God allows them to lie and deceive if they are in danger. This routinely includes playing the victim.


It is absolutely no different in Iran.

Iranian TV showed the typical scene after a strike: A group of random men in soccer jerseys and T-shirts standing around a bunch of rubble, digging randomly while others sat off to the side with blankets. Were these concerned parents, paid actors, or just guys who like digging holes?

(Trick question: All men like digging holes.)

As frustrating as it may be for that report to come out, the wise person will mark the tragedy and keep our government accountable, but never ever trust the initial reporting of the fake news.

There are also questions about the casualty report itself:

While Americans no longer trust their institutions or government, it is also true that there is a greater chance of Americans learning an approximation of the truth through an official Pentagon investigation than Iranian sources vetted by leftwing media that hates the current president.


Our government is one of a few that still does have a handful of men and women who are committed to telling the truth.

When “Equity” Erases Privacy:

A Quiet Reversal Inside a TVDSB School

Something quietly remarkable is happening inside at least one high school of the Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB).


According to a credible report from a concerned parent, at least one high school in the district is not allowing students to enter changerooms for the opposite sex. At a time when publicly available TVDSB guidelines had explicitly instructed staff to allow students into washrooms and changerooms based on “gender identity,” this represents a subtle but significant course correction — one that prioritizes student safety and privacy above ideology.


Here’s the striking part: those controversial “Guidelines for Inclusive Learning Cultures: Supporting Trans and Gender Diverse Students and Staff” — a 2018 TVDSB document — were recently removed without notice from the school board’s website.No public acknowledgment. No retraction. No updated replacement policy.They simply vanished.

That document, which we have reviewed, explicitly stated that “a school should never disclose a student’s gender diversity or trans status to parents without the student’s explicit prior consent,” and that “students have the right to enter a washroom or change room that corresponds to their gender identity, regardless of their assigned sex at birth.”


In practice, this meant teachers were expected to permit boys in girls’ changerooms — and to conceal this fact from parents. Many families had no idea that such rules even existed.


So when local gym teachers quietly declined to mix sexes in changerooms, and kept the spaces sex-specific for privacy and safety reasons, it was an act of integrity that stands out in an era where bureaucratic compliance often trumps common sense.


The Wall of Silence

Despite numerous inquiries from parents and independent journalists, the TVDSB has yet to clarify who originally approved or now administers these gender policies.The 2018 document emerged from an internal “equity” initiative inspired by Ontario Human Rights Commission guidance — but was never meaningfully debated publicly or approved by elected trustees with full transparency.


Parents were not consulted.Teachers were handed ideological directives dressed in legal language, and were told to obey them — even when those directives directly contradicted the Education Act’s provision for parental involvement.

One parent, whose identity CPAL is protecting, described the experience as “surreal”:

“It was like finding out there’s a hidden layer of rules that override normal ethics and common decency. Parents are treated as potential threats instead of partners.”


Global Contrast: Girls Elsewhere Fight for Toilets

The irony is almost unbearable.Around the world, groups such as Plan International raise awareness that a lack of sex-specific bathrooms for girls in developing countries leads to devastating educational setbacks. Girls drop out of school when they reach puberty if they lack private, safe washrooms.


This NGO builds girls-only toilets to protect young women from harassment and assault — preserving dignity and ensuring equal education.

And yet, here in prosperous Ontario, bureaucrats are doing the opposite: eroding those same protections under the banner of “inclusion.” We once built boundaries to protect girls; now, institutions dismantle them to appear progressive.

It’s a tragic inversion of moral logic.


The Human Rights Machinery at Work

The deeper issue is structural.Over several decades, unelected “human rights” commissions and tribunals have rewritten social norms through policy and possibility of sometimes enormous fines, transforming moral questions into administrative edicts.

Their interpretations of “gender identity” now override not only biological sex but thousands of years of history, worldwide, in which parents hold primary authority over their children’s moral and physical welfare.


This bureaucratic creep operates below the radar of democracy, converting ideology into policy and compelling teachers under threat of professional discipline to act against their own consciences.

The Thames Valley guidelines perfectly illustrate this: an institutional document adopting the tone of moral certainty while leaving no space for reasoned debate.


A Teacher’s Quiet Courage

In that context, one gym teacher’s choice to keep changerooms separated by sex is not a minor administrative decision — it is a quiet act of moral courage.These teachers did not hold press conferences or defy the system publicly. They simply did what thousands of educators know is right but are afraid to do: protect children’s privacy and safety from ideological intrusion.

That’s how real reform starts — not with slogans, but with individuals who quietly refuse to go along.


Epilogue: Hope in Civility

It is now unmistakable that parents and teachers across Ontario are awakening to what has been unfolding behind institutional walls. While bureaucracies speak in platitudes about “inclusion,” common-sense educators are rediscovering the foundations of human decency — respect for privacy, biological reality, and family rights.

A culture cannot maintain freedom if it abandons truth, nor can it maintain equality if it erases distinction.Sanity will return only when those within the system find the courage to resist it from the inside.

And that resistance has quietly begun.

Cell, in biology, the basic membrane-bound unit that contains the fundamental molecules of life and of which all living things are composed. A single cell is often a complete organism in itself, such as a bacterium or yeast. Other cells acquire specialized functions as they mature. These cells cooperate with other specialized cells and become the building blocks of large multicellular organisms, such as humans and other animals.

The smallest known cells are a group of tiny bacteria called mycoplasmas; some of these single-celled organisms are spheres as small as 0.2 μm in diameter (1μm = about 0.000039 inch), with a total mass of 10−14 gram—equal to that of 8,000,000,000 hydrogen atoms. Cells of humans typically have a mass 400,000 times larger than the mass of a single mycoplasma bacterium, but even human cells are only about 20 μm across. It would require a sheet of about 10,000 human cells to cover the head of a pin, and each human organism is composed of more than 30,000,000,000,000 cells.
