Be aware of this Current SCAM!

Cybersecurity experts have uncovered a new scam targeting Gmail users that disguises itself as a Google account security tool designed to protect email accounts.

Researchers at Malwarebytes Labs discovered a malicious website that closely mimics Google's official account security check and guides victims through a four-step process that appears legitimate.


Instead of protecting accounts, the fake tool quietly collects sensitive information that attackers can later use to break into Gmail and other Google services.

Hackers are attempting to direct victims to the fraudulent page through phishing emails, text messages and malicious pop-ups claiming a user's Google account requires immediate security verification.


Once on the site, victims are prompted to install what appears to be a security tool, which can give cybercriminals access to the device's contacts, real-time GPS location and clipboard data.


'When installed as a PWA (Progressive Web App), the browser address bar disappears,' Malwarebytes researchers explained in a blog post. 'The victim sees what looks and feels like a native Google app.'

Security analysts warn that the malicious tool can also intercept one-time verification codes used for two-factor authentication, which are often required to log into Gmail accounts.


In some cases, the attack may also install additional software capable of recording keystrokes, potentially capturing usernames, passwords and other sensitive information typed on the device.

Once Saved Always Saved: Does The Bible Teach This?

Does the Bible mention “once saved, always saved?”  Does the Bible teach this?  If so, what do the Scriptures say about this?


Eternal Security

I do not like the term “once saved, always saved” because it may give a false sense of security for the person who is not saved.  It also may make a person who is not soundly saved think that they are saved.  I prefer the term eternal security or the perseverance of the saints.   It is really the perseverance of God of the saints because the saints are never saved by their own works.  The only thing that a person must do to be saved is to repent from their sins, confess them to God and then put their trust in Christ.   For many people they simply have to turn to Romans 8 and read parts of this chapter to gain assurance of their salvation.  The Gospel of John is also a great book for those who are full of doubts about their salvation. Listen to what Paul writes to the Christians in Rome who were suffering from severe persecution:


“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?  No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.  For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers,  nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom 8:35, 37-39).


The question that Paul presents to the believers in Rome is a rhetorical one…one where he presents a question that has an obvious “no one” as the answer:  “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?”  “If God is for us, who can be against us” (Rom 8:31)?  Who can oppose God?  Who can thwart His plans?  Obviously no one can.  But, “Shall tribulation?”  No, they have already endured more tribulation than most Christians today will ever see.  Will it be “distress?”  No, they have endured amidst all sorts of distress.  Will it be “persecution?”  Not likely because the church at Rome suffered through some of the worst persecution that there was in the first century. 


How about, “famine or nakedness?”  Nope.   Many had lost their jobs and lost their homes due to their allegiance to Christ as Lord and not to Caesar.  Then there was “danger or sword”  but even the sword could not take them away from belonging to the Lord because Paul says that “neither life nor death” would “be able to separate” them “from the love of God” (8:38).  That about covers any conceivable circumstance doesn’t it?


In the Hands of God

When Jesus was speaking to the Jews at the Feast of Dedication in the Temple He said to them “I give them eternal life, and they will never perish” (John 10:28a).  If Jesus gives you eternal life and you end up losing it, was it really eternal? If a person claims to be saved but then walks away from the faith and believes that they lost their faith was it really eternal?  No, they didn’t really have it in the first place for when Jesus says that He gives them eternal life, it means life without end.  If a person says that they are saved for 10 years and then they lose their faith, it wasn’t eternal if it was for only 10 years.  When Jesus says it’s eternal and the One speaking is the eternal God, then surely He means it is everlasting.  Would he give someone eternal life and then take it away?  No, God cannot lie and since Jesus is God and we know that God cannot lie (Titus 1:2), then Jesus giving someone eternal life means it is for all eternity…not for only a time.


Next He says in the temple that “no one will snatch them out of my hand.  My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand” (John 10:28b-29).  Can you imagine someone snatching something from the hand of Jesus or from the hand of God the Father?  Not only is a person that Jesus just said “I give them eternal life, and they will never perish” He next says  that no one can…which means no human is able to…snatch them out of His hand and if that were not enough, neither are they “able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.”  How secure can a believer be!?


Can Someone Fall Away?

Hebrews 6:4-6 says that “it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt.” 


Many read this and think that if they have been enlightened and “tasted the heavenly gift” and “then fall away” it is impossible “to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm.”  What does it mean that they have “tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come?”  This “tasting” is surely not partaking off or taking in the word of God because if they have only tasted the goodness” they have not taken it.  If I only taste something does it mean that I ate it?  Of course not. 


Now if we read these verses as standing alone, I could see why someone might think that they could lose their salvation but the author of Hebrews goes on to say in verse 9 “yet in your case, beloved, we feel sure of better things—things that belong to salvation.”   The author is saying that in their case he feels “sure of better things – things that belong to salvation.”  The author is sure of those who he is writing this too and is persuaded of “better things.”  Better things of what?  They are those “things that belong to salvation.”


Conclusion

Here are some solid Scriptures that should give us peace of mind that once a person has repented and trusted in Christ they can know that they are secure in their salvation.  For one thing, salvation is fully a work of God.   Since a person can’t earn their salvation, is it possible for them to do something to lose it since they did nothing to earn it?  Here are a few reasons why I believe that they cannot lose what they did not earn or gain:


John 6:37, 39 “All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.  And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day.”


John 17:2-3 “since you [the Father] have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him.  And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.”


John 11:25-26 “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”


Second Corinthians 5:21 “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”


If a person doubts their own salvation, they may have never repented and trusted in Christ or they are not reading their Bible often enough.   Sin keeps a person out of the Bible but the Bible can keep a person out of sin and a person that is sinning can have doubts because of the conviction of the Holy Spirit that they are out of fellowship with the Father.  They won’t lose their relationship but they will lose fellowship and they will also lose their peace. 


Sin has a way of robbing us of that assurance.  If my son disobeys me and then comes to me and asks me a favor, it is unlikely that I will give him what he wants.  Now is my relationship…the father and son relationship changed? No, but our fellowship has changed. He will always be my son and that is certain.  I hope you can be certain and if you’re not, read the Gospel of John and Romans 10:9-13 and if you don’t believe you are saved, today can be the day of your salvation (1 Cor 6:2).

DEBATE Grows over TAXING EXTREME WEALTH

 

--So this document is basically a policy report arguing for a national wealth tax aimed at billionaires. The authors—economists Emmanuel Saez and Gabriel Zucman—say wealth in the U.S. has become extremely concentrated and that billionaires are often able to accumulate large gains without paying much tax on them.


Their proposal is a yearly tax on billionaire wealth rather than just taxing income. The report argues that such a tax would reduce the concentration of wealth and bring in large amounts of government revenue.


They estimate the tax could raise trillions of dollars over the next decade and say it could fund things like public programs or direct payments to Americans. The document frames the policy as a way to curb what it describes as the growing economic and political power of billionaires.

MAGA’S WORST NIGHTMARE: 

It’s the 18th day of Trump’s war in Iran, and MAGA world is starting to panic.


Dire straits: Trump allies who prayed for a short, sharp victory akin to the president’s previous military excursions have seen their hopes fade, POLITICO’s Megan Messerly reports this morning. Now fear is rising that Iran’s grip on the Strait of Hormuz has America boxed in — and that escalation may be Trump’s only viable option.


Cards on the table: “We clearly just kicked [Iran’s] ass in the field, but, to a large extent, they hold the cards now,” said one person close to the White House, granted anonymity to speak candidly about the war. “They decide how long we’re involved — and they decide if we put boots on the ground. And it doesn’t seem to me that there’s a way around that, if we want to save face.”


No easy way out: “The terms have changed,” said a second person familiar with the U.S. operation in Iran. “The off-ramps don’t work anymore because Iran is driving the asymmetric action.”


To be clear: Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth say the war has been a stunning military success, and there’s little doubt U.S. and Israeli firepower have caused overwhelming damage to Iran’s command structures and military capabilities. There’s a reason why this Al Jazeera op-ed — in which Doha academic Muhanad Seloom makes a compelling case that the war has been a military triumph for the U.S. and Israel — was going viral in D.C. circles last night.


But what level of military success will be required to actually get the Strait reopened? What level of security will large shipping companies require to take the risk? In Trump’s own words, “it only takes a couple of people to screw up the Strait. A couple of terrorists. Their military is defeated, but all you need is a few people dropping mines here and there and you louse it up.”


Breaking this morning: A tanker “anchored off the coast of the United Arab Emirates near the Strait of Hormuz was hit by a projectile early Tuesday, the first such strike in and around the vital waterway in five days,” NYT’s John Yoon reports.

The concern among some Trump allies is that ensuring the free flow of oil through the strait “could require securing parts of Iran’s shoreline,” Megan writes, “a step that would almost certainly mean putting American troops on Iranian soil.”


This is not idle conjecture. The head of the International Maritime Organization told the FT today that naval escorts will not “100 percent guarantee” the safety of ships in the strait. And as the NYT reported last week, retired Air Force Lt. Gen. S. Clinton Hinote, a senior air strategist who was tasked by the U.S. military with war-gaming this exact scenario in the 2000s, concluded a full invasionary force would be needed. “Short of that, the only lasting solution to the strait is a diplomatic one,” Hinote said.


Good luck with that. Reports have popped up here and there about possible back-channel negotiations between Washington and Tehran, but nothing’s been confirmed. And this is an Iranian regime which — despite all the bombs — remains pretty well entrenched, WaPo’s Ellen Nakashima and colleagues report. You’ll note that Trump hasn’t said much about handpicking Iran’s new leadership recently. And he hasn’t mentioned securing the “freedom of the people” since the first day of the war.


There’s every chance the emergent regime will be more radical than ever. “The Gulf nations felt that the Supreme Leader [Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was 86] would have died soon anyway, and that would have been a great opening for the opposition and a new regime,” a third White House ally tells Playbook’s Dasha Burns. “Now you’ve killed the guy, and the next guy is even more radical. You killed his dad and wife in an airstrike … Do you think he’ll be more or less reasonable?”


Help wanted: Trump’s sudden desire to bring in allied assistance, two weeks into the war, is indicative of where the situation stands. But as Playbook set out in detail yesterday morning, few if any allies are likely to take up the call. (The EU was the latest to confirm that it’s a “no.”) And it’s not just because they’re still mad about Greenland. Trump keeps attacking British PM Keir Starmer for his reluctance to get involved — but getting sucked into ill-fated American-led wars in the Middle East has proven catastrophic for European leaders’ popularity in the past. Just ask Tony Blair. 


Popularity may also become an issue at home. The same Trump ally quoted above tells Dasha that American boots on the ground in Iran would be the “third rail” for many MAGA supporters. “I think you're talking like Nixon-level ‘Watergate’ approval,” the person said. “If we do boots on the ground, Dems will take the Senate. Dems already basically have the House. And you know, you're going to be in a really bad position going into a general election for president in ’28.”


Quite how much Trump cares about 2028 — or even 2026 — is unclear. The president will not be on the ballot and said bluntly yesterday that ending Iran’s nuclear ambitions is “much more important than short term or even long term oil prices.” (Midterm voters may or may not agree with that assessment.) Trump increasingly looks like a leader with only one thing on his mind — legacy.


So … what comes next? Cuba, apparently. “I do believe I'll be ... having the honor of taking Cuba. That's a big honor. Taking Cuba in some form,” Trump told reporters yesterday. “I mean, whether I free it, take it … I think I can do anything I want with it, you want to know the truth.”


Expect plenty more discussion on all this today, at a series of St Patrick’s Day events. First, VP JD Vance will speak at the Naval Observatory around 9 a.m. alongside Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin. Trump will then host Martin in the Oval Office at 11 a.m. — with press welcomed in for the start — before heading to the Capitol for a “Friends of Ireland” lunch just after 12 p.m. Trump and Martin will also participate in the traditional “Shamrock Bowl” presentation at the White House later this afternoon.
