Trudeau criticized families for putting fighting 'climate change' at a 'lower priority' when they are struggling to 'pay the rent' or 'buy groceries,' insisting that 'we can’t do that.'

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (LifeSiteNews) –– After flying thousands of miles on the taxpayers’ dime in a government jet, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told a G20 panel that fighting so-called “climate change” should be more important to families than putting food on the table or paying rent. 

 

Trudeau made the comments while speaking at the Global Citizen conference at the G20 World Leaders’ Summit in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, on Sunday. He defended his government’s carbon tax, framing the increase in costs to Canadians as a necessary “priority.” 

 

Speaking to the panel, Trudeau commented that it is “really, really easy” to “put climate change as a slightly lower priority” when one has “to be able to pay the rent this month” or “buy groceries” for their “kids,” but insisted that “we can’t do that around climate change.”


Trudeau then blamed the Canadian populace for speaking out against his carbon tax, saying “unfortunately, we have an awful lot of public amplification of the kind of narrative that is directly opposed to that,” referring to those who prioritize shelter and food over his government’s “climate change” tax schemes. 

 

As reported by LifeSiteNews, a survey found that nearly half of Canadians are just $200 away from financial ruin as the costs of housing, food and other necessities has gone up massively since Trudeau took power in 2015.

In addition to the still-increasing domestic carbon tax, last week LifeSiteNews reported on how Trudeau’s Minister of Environment Steven Guilbeault wants to create a new “global’ carbon tax applied to all goods shipped internationally that could further drive-up prices for families already struggling with inflated costs.

 

Not only is the carbon tax costing Canadian families hundreds of dollars annually, the Liberals have themselves admitted that the tax has only reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 1 percent. 

 

Trudeau’s comments at the G20 are no surprise given his government’s continued push of a radical environmental agenda continued in the the United Nations’ “Sustainable Development Goals” and the World Economic Forum’s “Great Reset,” the latter being a globalist group in which Trudeau and some of his cabinet are involved.

NATO involvement has prolonged the fighting, which will end when Russia wins, Dmitry Peskov has said

Russia’s military operation was initially aimed at Ukraine but quickly expanded into a conflict with NATO, President Vladimir Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov has said.

 

Putin ordered troops to cross the border in February 2022 after the Ukrainian government openly rejected the Minsk Agreements and intensified its shelling of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.

In an extended interview with Indian media on Tuesday, Peskov was asked why the hostilities have taken 1,000 days and counting, and if he could predict when they might end.

 

“When all this started, it started against the Kiev regime. And now it is continuing as a war between Russia and NATO. That is why it took a little bit longer and will take a little bit longer,” the Kremlin spokesman said.

“It will come to an end as soon as we reach our goals,” Peskov said, adding that Russia would prefer to achieve its objectives through negotiations, but Ukraine has literally outlawed any talks with Moscow.

 

“So that’s why we’re continuing the military operation, because the possibility of peaceful negotiations is now being denied, both by Kiev and their [bosses] in Washington,” Peskov told the Indian media.

The initial spring 2022 peace talks between Russia and Ukraine were reportedly derailed by Boris Johnson, the British prime minister at the time, who told Kiev that the West was not ready to make peace with Moscow.


The US and its allies have funneled almost $200 billion worth of aid to Ukraine since 2022, including weapons, ammunition and combat equipment such as artillery, tanks, fighter jets and long-range missiles, while insisting this did not make them a party to the conflict.

 

On Tuesday morning, Ukraine used long-range ATACMS missiles provided by the US to strike Russia’s Bryansk Region, confirming media reports that Washington had given Kiev permission to do so.


Putin has warned that such a step would change the very nature of the conflict and make NATO a direct participant in the hostilities. He also updated Russia’s nuclear doctrine to allow a strategic response to a conventional attack by the proxy of an atomic power.

The anti-personnel weapons will help “blunt” Russian progress, US officials have claimed

Outgoing US President Joe Biden has decided to send anti-personnel landmines to Ukraine, multiple news outlets reported on Tuesday, citing unnamed American officials.

 

The White House is said to believe that the weapons will help Kiev “blunt” the advancement of Russian forces. The move comes days after Biden reportedly authorized the use of long-range ATACMS missiles deep inside Russian territory, a policy shift that his administration has not officially confirmed.

 

According to the Washington Post, which was the first to report the latest development, the weapons will only be used within what the US considers Ukrainian territory and are of “nonpersistent” design, meaning they become inactive within weeks of deployment to mitigate long-term hazards.

 

The use of anti-personnel landmines is a matter of controversy. The Ottawa Treaty bans this type of weapon, though the US and Russia are not among the 164 nations which have ratified it. Ukraine did so in 2005, and has been accused by the UN of breaching its obligations.


The US previously supplied Ukraine with Claymore mines, which are also designed to injure or kill troops, but unlike landmines are placed above ground and can be triggered remotely. Washington has also provided cluster weapons, including rockets and artillery shells, which many US allies have banned due to the long-term threat to civilians that they pose.

 

 

In 2020, Biden lashed out at then-President Donald Trump for dropping an Obama-era policy which banned the transfer of anti-personnel mines to other nations, with the exception of South Korea. He called the change “reckless” and reinstated the restriction after coming to power, the Post noted.

 

American officials claim that Kiev ultimately decides how to conduct its conflict with Russia, and that Washington’s role is to provide the tools it needs. Moscow has called the Ukraine conflict a US-led proxy war against Russia, which the White House intends to wage “to the last Ukrainian.”

 

On Monday, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan urged Kiev to send more troops to the front line, arguing that a shortage of personnel rather than weapons should be blamed for the failure to stop Russian advances. Kiev relies on brutally enforced mandatory conscription to replenish losses, as draft avoidance remains a major problem.
