I confronted Chrystia Freeland with her Ethics, and she Panicked!

I’m at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where I saw Chrystia Freeland, the disgraced former MP and cabinet minister.

(I think she saw me first and tried to hide from my sight.)


Now, if I had been in Canada, she would have had me arrested. That’s what she did to our reporter, David Menzies. And of course, she had no compunction about seizing bank accounts from hundreds of her political enemies during the trucker protest.

In fact, that’s something I asked her about, because three judges on the Federal Court of Appeal recently upheld a lower court ruling that Freeland broke the law and violated the constitution by doing those bank seizures.


It will not surprise you to learn she is absolutely unrepentant, even though four judges in a row have called her a lawbreaker.


I also asked her about her accepting a job working for the Ukrainian government while also working for the Canadian government. Isn’t that an obvious conflict of interest?

Needless to say, she was absolutely vicious, saying that anyone who would dare question her must be working for Vladimir Putin. I’m serious, she said that!

You may know that a week ago, we sent a legal letter to the Ethics and Conflict of Interest Commissioner, demanding that he look into her misconduct. Well, I think we learned a lot more about her ethics today, don’t you think?


Can you imagine a reporter at the CBC ever asking her accountability questions like this? I can’t. Because, unlike Rebel News, the CBC (and 99% of other journalists) are on the government dole. It goes to show that the only reporters you can trust are independent reporters.

At last, they could parade a leader with a vocabulary and reading list impressive enough to clear the low bar set by recent Liberal leadership.

Mark Carney’s speech to the World Economic Forum [WEF] had Liberal partisans frothing at the mouth. At last, they could parade a leader with a vocabulary and reading list impressive enough to clear the low bar set by recent Liberal leadership.

 

The substance, however, was empty.

Carney lamented that the rules-based international order is fraying. That American reliability can no longer be assumed. That economic integration is increasingly weaponized. That middle powers like Canada are more exposed than they were a generation ago.

None of this is controversial. Conservatives have been warning about it for years.


Where Carney immediately loses the plot is what he proposes next.

If this diagnosis had been followed by serious proposals to increase military recruitment tenfold, fortify the High Arctic, expand domestic arms production, or even openly debate nuclear deterrence, one could at least respect the seriousness of the response. Those would be hard conversations. They would carry costs. They would signal that Canada intends to survive in a dangerous world... [However, Carney missed the opportunity].

Last week at the World Economic Forum, Prime Minister Mark Carney delivered what might be the most intellectually serious speech ever given in a room best known for private jets, global pledges, and the phrase “stakeholder capitalism.”

Carney framed the moment as a historic rupture — not a transition — and invoked Czech dissident Václav Havel to argue that countries must stop “living within the lie” of a rules-based international order that no longer functions.

For conservatives, the speech lands like a three-course meal: Some nourishment. Some indigestion.And one dish that makes you question the chef’s intentions.

Let’s break it down.


THE GOOD:

Where Conservatives Nodded (Cautiously)

1. He Admitted the Global Order Was Always a Bit of a Fairy Tale. Carney openly acknowledged what conservatives have said for decades: The “rules-based international order” was selectively enforced, dominated by great powers, and sustained more by habit than honesty.

That’s refreshing. Truth still matters — even in Davos.

2. He Recognized That Sovereignty Requires CapacityFood, energy, defense, minerals, supply chains — Carney correctly stated that a country that can’t feed itself, fuel itself, or defend itself has no real options.

That’s not radical. That’s realism. Conservatives approve.

3. He Rejected Passive Compliance as a StrategyThe idea that small and mid-sized nations should simply “go along to get along” was rightly dismissed as weakness masquerading as diplomacy.

No argument there.


THE BAD:

Where the Red Flags Started Fluttering

1. Sovereignty — With Conditions AttachedCarney spoke often about sovereignty, but always as something to be shared, managed, or coordinated through coalitions.

From a conservative standpoint, sovereignty that only exists inside approved frameworks isn’t sovereignty — it’s a lease agreement.


2. “Values” Without Roots: Human rights. Sustainability. Solidarity. Integrity.

Nice words — but noticeably absent were:

  • · Constitutional limits

  • · Cultural inheritance

  • · Democratic consent

  • · Any grounding in natural law or national tradition

Values floated free from voters are not values — they’re policies waiting to be enforced.


3. Strategic Autonomy for Governments, Not Citizens. Carney emphasized resilience at the state and bloc level, but said nothing about:

  • · Individual economic freedom

  • · Small businesses crushed by regulatory compliance

  • · Farmers, energy workers, and trades being “transitioned” out of relevance

Resilience becomes a convenient excuse when it’s never bottom-up.


THE UGLY:

What Conservatives Should Not Miss

1. Havel’s Warning Was Turned Upside Down. Havel warned about ordinary people participating in lies imposed by systems they don’t control.

Carney used that warning — at Davos — to argue for deeper coordination among those very systems.

That’s not removing the sign from the window. That’s replacing it with a smarter one.


2. “Variable Geometry” Means Variable Accountability Different coalitions. Different rules. Same elite decision-makers.

This flexibility sounds pragmatic — until you realize it allows:

  • · Moral consistency to disappear

  • · Standards to shift without debate

  • · Accountability to evaporate into the process

Principles that bend too easily don’t restrain power. They facilitate it.


3. Immense Fiscal Capacity Is Not a Conservative Comfort Phrase. CarneyCarney proudly spoke of the government’s “immense fiscal capacity” to act decisively.


Conservatives hear that and immediately ask: Who decides? Who benefits? Who pays — and who gets regulated out of the way?

Power concentrated for “good reasons” has a long history of outliving those reasons.


THE CONSERVATIVE BOTTOM LINE

Mark Carney is right about one thing: The old global order is not coming back.

But his solution isn’t a return to democratic sovereignty — it’s a more disciplined, better-managed version of global coordination, led by governments, institutions, and experts who believe they finally understand the problem.

Conservatives believe something simpler — and harder:

  • · Power must be constrained, not optimized

  • · Legitimacy flows upward from citizens, not downward from consensus

  • · Truth does not require permission from global forums


When elites say “stop pretending,” conservatives should always ask:

Pretending about what — and pretending for whom?

Because sometimes, the most dangerous lie isn’t nationalism.

It’s the belief that governance without consent is still governance at all.

First, I would like to thank everyone who turned out for our demonstration at the City Council meeting. We were silent, but I think we effectively made our point.  Even Nigel Stuckey, the director of Atrocity and Cheryl showed up to take pictures of us.  

 

Now we need to keep the pressure on our municipal officials, let them know that we are not letting them off the hook, that we are watching them.  We also need more people to come out and take a stand.  I see a hell of a lot of folks complaining, but not much doing.  I understand that people may have to work or take care of kids, or are sick or have just given up believing that they can make a difference.  However, I hope that when you are able, you do come. If you do believe your involvement is futile, I am here to reassure you that it is most definitely not.  We need you and your voice.  We can effect change, but we need to persevere.
