Pity. The Greek word behind it—splanchnizomai—is anything but ordinary.

Step 1: Turn on the Reverse Interlinear.

Step 2: Look it up in a trusted dictionary.

Here's what Mounce's says about splanchnizomai:
(Have) Compassion — σπλαγχνίζομαι (splanchnizomai), GK 5072 (S 4697), 12x.
splanchnizomai means "to have compassion for someone, show compassion." This verb carries the idea of being moved in the inner parts of the body. The ancients thought of the inward parts of the body (i.e., the entrails) as being the seat of emotions. In English we usually refer to the "heart," but we also talk of a person having "visceral" feelings; note how true compassion can affect us in the pit of our stomachs.
The Samaritan wasn't simply polite. He wasn't dutiful. He was moved—physically, involuntarily—at the sight of someone in need.

Do you TRUST the CBC?
A new poll claims most Canadians “trust” the CBC, Farkas couldn’t handle the province speaking their mind on new bylaws restricting summer fun, and more.
A new Pollara study alleges that CBC still registers 71 per cent trust on paper, yet the broader picture is far more divided: just 51 per cent of Canadians say they trust the news media overall, 35 per cent say they don’t, and the gap between Liberal and Conservative voters has widened to 54 points
Pollara’s fourth annual Trust in Media study found Canadians hold mixed views of the news media altogether.
The Weather Network topped the trust rankings at 78 per cent, followed by Radio-Canada at 79 per cent, CBC at 71 per cent, CTV at 68 per cent and Global at 65 per cent.
The survey also found a stark generational divide. Sixty-five per cent of seniors said they trust the news media, compared with just 43 per cent of Canadians aged 18 to 34.
“This marks a shift from historical Pollara polling included in this report, which shows younger people were more trusting than older people of the news media back in the 1990s,” the study writes.

When the WRDSB cancelled Sir John A. Macdonald, one student sought answers.
We interviewed Ishan Acharya, a remarkable Grade 10 student at what used to be called Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary School (affectionately known as “S-JAM”). In 2022, the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) renamed the school to align with its “commitment to Truth and Reconciliation and ensuring inclusive learning environments where all students feel safe, welcomed and respected.”
Erasing our nation’s founder in favour of the culturally neutral moniker “Laurel Heights” struck Ishan as an appalling use of taxpayer funds when some students can’t even afford to eat lunch. While the Board didn’t disclose the costs of the name change at the time, Ishan resourcefully filed a Freedom of Information (FOI) request that revealed a cost of $195,105.86. We at least hope the WRDSB can prove the name change made students feel “safe, welcomed, and respected”, because those feelings are unlikely to be measurable among taxpayers.
