I just overlooked part of a movie my roommate was watching and left it to open one of my emails. By coincidence, both promoted "team effort". Is that what we need for the Church to succeed in the years ahead?
The movie was called Jack Snyder's Justice League. The devil was defeated because "he never had to deal with the team before": Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Cyborg and some Trident water-world superhero.
The email opened up to a success story in Guelph that reduced chronic youth homelessness by 78% since 2018. The team approach worked.
Now, I'm normally skeptical of team approaches when theydiscourage individual initiative. Team effort sounds very socialist to me. But I have to admit that the churches could benefit from more "body ministry" so that the left hand knows what the right hand is doing, so to speak. After all, Jesus said "upon this rock I will build my church" not "churches". (Forget about the rock for now please.) He was describing a universal "congregation" found in each city, like a virtual temple that supernaturally manifests itself everywhere, like a TV broadcast of worship from one place that can be found in every home. Anyone looking for Jesus, today is confronted with a myriad of different denominations and doctrines sure to confuse the mind if not the spirit because there is not one body.
Should we be praying for Christians to work closer together within trans-denominational, non-denominational organizations? Or becoming more involved in secular teams such as the one in Guelph? I notice there was no spiritual element in their success story. Pity.
